Williamson's elbow is really f***ed up, but the lastest Cub release did confirm that there is a 2006 option for $2 million. Not too bad of a deal right now, but we'll se how it works on in the long run. The same can be said with Ryan Dempster.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) So are you blaming the Sox brass then for calling up Garland too early? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Sox do have a reputation of rushing pitchers don't they? Kip Wells is another guy rushed too soon to the bigs, but in 2000, the Sox had problems in their rotation (some things never change.) I don't want to see BMac in the bigs (with the Sox of course) until '06.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) I know what you are saying. It would be interesting to let everyone know that Randy Johson only had 3 wins by the age of 25. Garland has 46. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So what? Who had more sucess in their first 4 complete seasons? Who showed more signs of being a great MLB pitcher? I could only imagine the Sox signing some stud pitcher out of pony ball, and every time he got lit up, people would be screaming "HE'S ONLY 12 YEARS OLD!!!! HOW MANY WINS DID ROGER CLEMENS HAVE WHEN HE WAS 12???"

QUOTE(Duke Of Chicago @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) Im going to put this into perspective here: Is it fair that 100's of thousands of lets say , Dee Brown Jerseys have been sold and he has not made a penny. I think there is something morraly wrong with the system. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 0 "Dee Brown" jerseys have been sold, but a lot of "11" jerseys have been sold. I saw one tonight going for $70. Schools aren't allowed to sell merchandise with the name of players on it. Some companies won't letter a current player's name on a jersey either. Does anyone know why Illinois only sells "26" football jerseys? (It's my number anyways and I got and orange one tonight for $25. )

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) I consider the 5th starter to be Jon but this year it really doesn't matter. Ozzie at soxfest said that he doesn't plan on skipping starts this year so it really doesn't matter who the number 5 guys is imo, but if I was asked who the sox 5th starter is, I'd say Jon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's something people should take into consideration for this upcoming season. In the previous seasons, the Sox would try to avoid the fifth starter days. I forgot where I read it (either the Cubune or Whitesox.com,) but Guillen said he is so confident in his bullpen, Buehrle and Garcia will pitch under 200 innings this year.

QUOTE(Molto @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) just because a guy hasn't reached his potential and the expectations placed on him doesn't mean he's bad. He's not getting paid more than he's worth and he isn't overrated like so many other players out there. yeah, let's dump him because he's not great, just good. unreal some of you guys. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not saying we should dump him (I only wanted him traded if it brought RJ or Vazquez in return,) but this "He's only X years old" excuse has been stale since the beginning of 2003. Garland does not deserve $3.4 million (a $1.1 million raise) for 2005, but after seeing some of the contracts pitchers are getting this offseasonit's ok for me.

I say Garland is the number 5, and Contreras is #4 but I would start Contreras on the 3rd game of the season because of how well he pitched against the Indians last season, and Orlando "Big Game pitcher" Hernandez should start the first game of the Twins series.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) I'm sorry that he hasn't been a 20 game winner by the age of 25... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well f***, he's been the MLB since 2000, and last year was his first winning season?!?!?! What happened to all that potential he supposedly had?
-
Garland vs. Contreras (Sox numbers assuming he qualified) (AL rank) OPS: Contreras .772 (21) Garland .786 (28) K/9: Contreras 8.2 (5) Garland 4.69 (35) K/BB: Contreras 1.62 (35) Garland 1.49 (37) G/F (remember, Garland is the "groundball" pitcher): Contreras 1.51 (11) Garland 1.27 (17)

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) i say no way in hell we ditch garland... i mean at worse he is good for 12 wins right <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you been paying attention the last 3 seasons? At best he's good for 12 wins. But hey! He's only 40 years from social security!

Thanks guys!

Opening Day/National Championship
santo=dorf replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) What part about "IF illinois gets there" don't you understand? I just found it ironic they are both on the same day. Nowhere have i EVER said that illinois would win the national championship, OR make the final four. Jesus. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So if Illinois doesn't make it to the final four (God Forbid ) you still might be going to the Championship game? I'd rather go to opening day if that's the case. -

Here's the link where you can access it.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) HR in the 7th walk off in the 9th and I remember as an angels fan commented its only one hit after alomar got on then frank tied it up soon after <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They played the radio call on SC. something to the effect of: Farmer: John, how do you break up a no-hitter? Rooney: With a base hit Ed. And there's a hit by Alomar! Farmer: John, how do you break up a shutout? Rooney: Frank can do it right here with a home run. And there's a drive to Center field!

I recall reading of hearing that according to scouts, Weaver has major-league ready stuff.

Opening Day/National Championship
santo=dorf replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) They fall on the same day, which sucks because i'll only be at one or the other. I hope it's the latter, but either way i'm going to be at one hell of a game (assuming i can get final four tix as well IF illinois gets there). Kinda odd how this "worked out" for me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now don't jinx it! -
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) The national spotlight wasn't too kind to Buehrle against Boston either. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Buehrle pitched on Friday. Guillen left Garcia in too long on the Sunday night game. We could see a Buehrle-Santana matchup for this game.

My sister got a new camcorder for Christmas that uses memory sticks and 8 mm tape, and I tried to put to some stuff I recorded onto my computer to possibly make a DVD. The software that came with the camcorder just compressed some of the footage into 2 minutes of highlights with some soft wedding music playing. Is there software that will allow me to directly put 8 mm footage to a windows media file? Will this help me in making a DVD?

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) Did you all hear the subjects that are being dropped from State Exams? Social Studies, Health, Writing.... ect. Yea, that no child left behind act is doing great. In order to get money the state has to drop "less important" topics in order to consentrate more on Math. Nice Job Mr. Bush! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think they should "consentrate" more on spelling.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) I'm not sold on Vizc but for 1.3M I can't complain. He should be better than both Politte & Adkins. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did you read the article? I figured a stat-head like yourself would be impressed with these numbers:
-
I think if they have to dump someone, it will probably be Jacque "strap" Jones.

No names on Cubs home jerseys

Like Cub fans know what a f***ing scorecard is. :rolly :fthecubs -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 04:06 AM) Osuna>cotts, adkins, diaz, grilli, etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Only if he's healthy. Plus we only have room for one or two more bullpen guys in our pen. Take a look at Adkins' numbers last year. He was fine until Ozzie started overusing him in late August and September.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) I was just looking at the SoxFest pics on the Chisox.com website. I never realized Brooks was so young. That was the first I ever saw of him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah I thought the same thing too when he was on Comcast last night.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) After that we walked around a bit, and me and Steve (soxnbears) decided that we couldn't pass up the 50$ deal (cut from 125$) on the grey "Chicago" coat that Ozzie wore throughout the season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> $50!!!!!! I paid close to $140 in August, and it kept getting pushed back, so I didn't get it until October.
