  1. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) wow Gload was only really bad that one game other that that he wasnt horrid.... mebe he shouldnt go to RF but i wouldnt mind him in les say LF <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gload was terrible in both of the Cubs-Sox series.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Difference between signing someone like Davis to $1 mil and Timo to the same amount is that you know that Davis, being one of the top 2 catchers on the team with or without A.J., is going to start around 20 to 25 pct of the games behind the plate. Not only that, but there would have likely been more teams willing to give Davis around that same amount of money to come to the team as a BACK-UP catcher and see if he can fulfill some of his potential. That's the thing though, he's no better than a back-up catcher. That's why we need A.J. The difference between Victor Martinez, Mauer, and I-Rod is ridiculous when compared to Ben Davis. A.J. makes the Sox a lot more respectable. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How do you know that Davis could receive the same kind of money from another team but Timo couldn't? I want AJ, but you have just decided to say that Timo's Contract will prevent us from signing him. I don't see any truth in that, and if the Sox were concerned about $500,000, they should not have signed Ben Davis. It would have been too large of a risk to not sign Ben, and bank on signing AJ. AJ would've known that the Sox only had one catcher, and could have held the Sox up for even more money. We don't need three catchers, but I won't complain if we sign AJ.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) The Timo and Neifi signings were two of the most ridiculed by different baseball experts because both players are well below average at their positions for the cost. Mark Sweeney just signed for 550k with the Padres. Last year, he had an OPS of .885 and was the most dangerous bat off the bench in baseball. If we had spent a million on him, then I wouldn't have had a problem with him. Don't forget that Dye isn't exactly good at avoiding injury. When Timo had to start in the outfield last year, he was awful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course you do realize that he played in Colorado last season, and his road splits were .216/.327/.351 and it still doesn't ave the $500,000 to sign AJ? RISP (Road): .239 BA No thanks.
  4. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Many of us feel Timo's contract/presence will hurt the club in the long run. We have an outfield of Podsednik, Rowand, Dye. We have Escobar, Gload, and Borchard off the bench and we have Anderson and Sweeny only a few years away. Why have Timo? Why? Was: "C'mon Timo, C'mon Timo, C'mon Timo" fun? Yes. If we miss out on either AJP or Iguchi because of this guy's contract will Timo backers continue to sing his prasies? I dunno. He'll produce for your ballclub, but we have other needs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's why we brought back Timo, and there's no need to rush Sweeney or Anderson either. Secondly, why b**** about Timo's contract when Ben Davis is making the same amount and get this, is playing the same position as AJ? Shouldn't these pessimists worried about giving out $1 million to a bench player in a large market be more concerned with Davis' contract rather than Timo's? I really don't get it. So if we sign AJ are these same whiners going to be complaining about Timo's contract because they feel it won't allow us to add a player at the trade deadline (hell we may not even need someone as the rate this offseason is going. )
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) Reserve outfielders are a dime a dozen. Hell, the week after we signed Timo for one million, two other reserves in D. Mohr and Hollandsworth, who are a lot better than Timo, signed for base contracts which were cheaper. Another thing about a reserve outfielder is that you want them to be good enough on defense where they can be brought in as a defensive replacement if needed. Timo has a good arm, but his range in the outfield is pathetic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Todd Hollandsworth was given a deal by the Cubs that could be worth as much as $1.7 Million, and Mohr signed for $900,000 and both are in a situation where they can compete for a starting job. You are concerned about missing out on AJ by $500,000. Find me an outfielder who will cost no more than $500,000 and will eb more productive than Timo in a bench role.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) If it's true that we're about 500k or a million dollars short of what A.J. wants, the Timo contract will piss me off even more. We would be basically sacrificing a catcher who would play 120 games at least for a below average backup outfielder who would start about 30 games, barring injuries. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :headshake So then who is our reserve outfielder? Borchard, or Escobar?
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) If timo was never resigned that would help alot right about now. He is doing nothing more than wasting money and a roster spot. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's clutch and he hits well with RISP. You have to realize he was used as an everyday player last year when Maggs went down, which won't be his role next year.
  8. QUOTE(GoArow33 @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) Aaron Miles anyone? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Miles can't play short.
  9. Any chance of a Forest Green skin?
  10. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) <!--QuoteBegin-Yoda+Jan 1, 2005 -> 08:06 PM--> QUOTE (Yoda @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) <!--QuoteEBegin--> I drank like six beers and then had half a bottle of tequila. Man, my breath smelled like s*** when I woke up. My head still hurts like hell as well. Only 6??? I had a whole case myself He's only 15. I looked into my wallet this morning and said "what happened to all of my money?" I don't even want to try and figure out how much I spent last night, and I have to get a mirror fixed on my car because some asshole smashed it when I was out. :fyou
  11. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) <!--QuoteBegin-DonkeyKongerko+Jan 1, 2005 -> 06:17 PM--> QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) <!--QuoteEBegin--> Hawk has a flair for the over-dramatic but you just gotta love the guy. It seems like every time he's interviewed he says something like "Something BIG is about to happen." I still wonder what the "Trade that will change the franchise" was supposed to be, or if there ever was such a trade..... I think you're talking about the trade that would "knock your socks off" after the Everett and Alomar trades in 2003. I did some looking back, and the Sox were close to getting Weaver, but refused to give up Cotts. There was also talk about Konerko for Ponson.
  12. QUOTE (JUGGERNAUT @ Dec 31, 2004 -> 01:49 PM) Another shake your head signing: Wade Miller (7-7; 74; 3.35; Astros) 45W in 3 yrs. BOS signed him to a 1.5M/1yr deal + 3M in incentives. I can't help but think .. Kenny .. did you call his agent? This is not a 69-75 career Matt Clement signing for 26M/3. This was something the CWS could afford it. If it didn't work out, you lose a small amount of money. If it does work out, you reap the rewards. It bounces Contreras/Garland out of the rotation but I'll take a healthy Miller over them any day. I would imagine so. Ken Rosenthal was reporting that the Sox were talking about trading Lee to the Astros for Miller.
  13. Wow! How could Arizona turn down an offer like that? Upnorthsox, Jose Contreras had to waive his no-trade clause at the last minute to come here last offseason. He mad the comment along the lines "If you don't want me in your house, I'll leave." Contreras isn't going anywhere.
  14. Why are you in such a fuss about the ignore feature? Do you read every SINGLE post on this board? What makes you think everyone will be ignoring you?
  15. I would imagine so. Kevin Brown had to waive his no trade clause to come to the Yankees, and now the reports are that the Yanks will have a hard time trading him because of his no-trade clause.
  16. We're not trading Contreras, and how in the world to you expect us to sign both Tacughi AND Piersynzski after getting Vazquez? Why go through all of this hassle with getting Contreras to waive his no trade clause, and the possibility of Javier demanding a trade after next season?
  17. Mark my words, if the Sox get off to their usual s***ty start in April (not last year though,) these same people will be the ones calling for Williams' head, and b****ing about how much Buehrle sucks. :rolly Remember, a great, wise man once said; "It's not how you start off, it's how you finish." That was in response to Bartolo's overall dissapointing numbers in 2004. :rolly
  18. What the hell are you talking about? Their asking prices have gone upwards due to the contracts that Benson, Clement, Milton, Wright, and Pavano received. There is still demand out there for starting piotching yet the supply is not as great. therefore, the cost will be more for these pitchers. Did you see Millwood pitch last year? and he's supposedly close to getting $7 million from the Indians!
  19. The difference was that KW talked to Showalter and other players for Texas and everyone told KW how good of a teammate Carl was/is. KW said a couple weeks ago that after doing some background checking, it was determined that AJ was not a fit for the Sox. Has KW talked to AJ personally yet?
  20. He's looking for a 3 year deal, and the Indians have been trying to sign him, but he's holding out for too much money.
  21. I hope this doesn't prevent Jose Contreras from winning 17-20 games like Dibble promised.
  22. Why did I even bother thinking you could answer a simple, f***ING question? :headshake I'll try again anyways. So who's fault is it again for "overpaying" for Dye and Hermanson? :rolly Who's fault was it for not re-signing Bartolo Colon when we first traded for him? (somthing you said you could do, but KW failed doing it.) :rolly
  23. I believe he is still a free agent. Does anyone remember when Pizza Hut offered a Brook Fordyce autographed baseball?
  24. So JR and the Sunshine Boys come up with the Contracts? Why have you ripped on Williams for potentially overpaying when it came to Hermanson, Dye, Polanco, "El Duque," and Clement? Did you mean to type "Reinsdorf and Co." instead of "Kenny" all of those times? :rolly
  25. Who's responsible for signing the players again?
