  1. Congrats Bobby. That said, it should have been Garland but he started to slow to gain any buzz. No Erstad? I thought he was an awesome leadoff guy.
  2. I heard Livan and Chris Young for Dontrelle Willis. If they were willing to do that for Buehrle, I'd do it (and I bet Kenny would too) though I'd rather have Doug Davis or Micah Owings. Either way, if that deal doesn't make sense for either side the D'Backs still have about 20 prospects that are better than the White Sox's top couple. I'd love to see Justin Upton (CF), Carlos Gonzalez (RF, LF), Alberto Callaspo (2B!), Dustin Nippert (SP) or Mark Reynolds (1B, 3B) in a Sox uniform. Pair one or two of those guys, depending who it is, with someone like Juan Cruz or Edgar Gonzalez and I'd do the deal for sure.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) Turnbow's not very good. A reliever that will be with us only only for the next 2 years or so is the last thing we should try to acquire. Better arm than anyone except Jenks and Thornton that we have in our bullpen. I may be in the minority but I don't think we're far away from contending if we can get major league players back in trades for Buehrle, Dye and Iguchi and sign one or two of the right free agents. Obviously this is idealistic but I think this team could contend for a playoff berth: C - Pierzynski 1B - Konerko 2B - Luis Castillo (FA) 3B - Crede SS - Richar/Anyone but Uribe LF- Josh Fields CF - Sweeney RF - Corey Hart (Brewers) DH - Thome SP: Garland SP: Vazquez SP: Danks SP: Contreras SP: Will Inman (Brewers) BP: Jenks, Thornton, Turnbow (Brewers), MacDougal, Masset, Broxton (Dye trade), Floyd
  4. I disagree. How is getting a .300/.400/.500 CF who'll steal 30 bases and one of the best pure stuff relievers in the NL plus 2 prospects (did some research maybe P Will Inman or Mark Rogers or SS Alicedes Escobar) a bad return. Hate to burst some people's bubbles but we may be overvaluing Buehrle considering the lack of blockbuster trades that have gone down the last few years. The fact is people don't want to risk looking stupid or mortgage the future by parting with their best prospects any more.
  5. Ken Rosenthal talks a little bit more in depth about the Brewers interest in Buehrle, but says it's unlikely the Sox would be able to get Ryan Braun or Yovani Gallardo. Even if we couldn't get either of them I think the Brewers would be a good fit (better than the Red Sox) because they're in the NL and have other good young players. If it's not possible to get Gallardo or Braun I'd center the deal around Corey Hart and Derrick Turnbow plus one or two B-level prospects. I know people have strong opinions on what we should get for Buehrle, so any thoughts on this front? I don't know the Brewers farm system in depth so I wouldn't know who we should go after in the minors.
  6. I recently developed an infatuation with Cunningham so naturally the Sox trade him. At least it seems like we got something that might be usable someday though. Would have been pissed if it was for some sort of Ryan Bukvich/Bret Prinz type arm.
  7. "...And you thought Timo Perez was bad!"
  8. Awesome (although a little sobering when Ozzie says "2005's over. We're not the world champions any more.") After watching, it might be time to pop in the World Series DVD's for a little nostalgia.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:56 AM) Except for the big country boy in the 3 hole with the 1.000+ OPS of course. I love Thome and think what he brings to the team is very valuable, but he actually has an OPS of .825 with 3 homers for the last two months and he's not that fun to watch if he's not slugging (unless you like watching a lumberjack walk 90 feet), since he can't run and doesn't play defense. As much of a great guy as he is, and as good as he was last year, he's still not as fun to root for as Maggs and Frank, IMO. P.S. I know people are going to say the same is true of Frank, and to an extent it is, but I always enjoyed rooting for Frank because A) he was my favorite player growing up and nothing can change that, B) he was a homegrown White Sox and C) Everyone else hated him (a la AJ) so I naturally stubbornly defended him to the death. It was just a generally different situation that is with with Jim.
  10. I'm just saying it sucks that, any way you slice it, no one's having a good season. At least back in the late 90's/early 2000's when we were mediocre you could always root for Frank or Maggs cause they would still play well, but It's just depressing to root for a bunch of guys hitting .230. I definitely never thought that this year the Sox would be in the traditional Royals/Rockies/Devil Rays vein of having the closer who's having a decent year as the only servicable representative for the All-Star Game.
  11. ESPN has a new player ranking system that, while probably not as accurate as a lot of Baseball Prospectus's stuff, is pretty telling in the fact that NOT A SINGLE WHITE SOX PLAYER IS AMONG THE TOP 100 IN MLB. That makes us one of two teams, along with the Washington Nationals, who are playing pathetically enough to accomplish this feat. Who would have thought, at the beginning of the year, we'd be in the same category as a team intially thought to have a chance at a run for the Mets' record of most losses in the season? The stat explanation: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2897967 Th top 100 players list: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playerRating
  12. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 04:58 AM) Thome, Dye and Konerko need to step up and carry this team like they're supposed to. The responsibility for this team's success or failure falls squarely on their shoulders. Can Thome, Dye or Konerko strike out Lance Berkman? None of them have been performing up to standards set last year (except perhaps Thome) but the blame for this team falls evenly among every single player, as well as the coaches and management.
  13. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Maybe were playing for the first pick in next years draft Maybe we can get Greg oden or kevin Durant
  14. Farmer says "on the nubber Uribe moves to third. He could score on a wild pitch." That's what we're down to hoping for these days...a wild pitch. Good grief our lineup's bad.
  15. so much for our stopper. apparently bullcrap is contagious.
  16. That just illustrates that Ozzie doesn't have any clue how to utilize his bullpen resources, and apparenlty a lot of posters here don't either. It's useless to have a closer if we're never in the lead in the ninth inning. So the question is, would you rather have your best pitcher come in after the starter leaves in the seventh or eighth with a one or two run lead and two runners on...then have a s***ty pitcher come in in the ninth with no runners on and perhaps luck into three outs without any runs scoring OR would you rather have Nick Masset come in in the above situation, let the two runners who were on score, in addition to one or two more probably and not use your best pitcher at all. It's a simple matter of leveraging the talent that we actually do have in the bullpen into the most beneficial use, and Ozzie hasn't done that all in the last few weeks. With the quality of our bullpen pitchers and offense we can't afford to lock our best one into a situation that hasn't been occuring too much (1-3 run lead in the ninth inning). It's a pretty outdated concept that doesn't apply to the White Sox. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) and the quality of soxtalk threads continues to diminish.... P.S. Lighten up. It's only a joke...I didn't know the forums were only for serious talk like "FIRE KW," "I hate the White Sox" and "Let's trade Jermaine Dye for Carl Crawford straight up; the D-Rays will do it." NOTE: Edited to fix quotes
  17. I've been trying to think of reasons why Bobby Jenks never comes in if the game is close. These were the top 8 but I couldn't pick just one, so vote and maybe we can finally figure this conundrum out.
  18. I remember watching Prinz pitch for Arizona and he was pretty reliable. I guess he hasn't been nearly as good since then, though. I can't recall ever seeing Bukvich pitch. At least Kenny did something, though I don't know how much of the problem this pitches. Ozzie still doesn't have anyone he trusts with the ball in the 7th and 8th innings (besides maybe Logan) since it takes weeks if not months for managers to gain trust in relievers, and Thornton's struggling, Masset's garbage (right now), and Day's only pitched 3 times (although somehwat encouragingly). I definitely feel like the bullpen problem is not fixable in one day and probably will plague us throughout the year. I just hope Kenny doesn't pull a Jim Bowden and trade Fields for Scott Eyre or something (a la Kearns and Lopez for nothing). Sigh...
  19. Jermaine Dye. He's got a better arm than both of em.
  20. Josh Fields needs to be playing LF for Charlotte NOW. Also, if Craig Wilson hits in Charlotte I'd like to see him get a shot at sticking with the Sox since he can be a very valuable utility player (LF, RF, C, 1B) with a lot of pop (better than Andy Gonzalez anyway). All that being said I'm excited to see Owens and I hope he hits.
  21. Any chance any of these guys or Lance Broadway or Gio Gonzalez get called up to try and contribute to the bullpen? I'd rather see a young player with a good arm get a chance to help the team rather than a Quadruple-A player (like Bret Prinz) or a 26 year old from AA (like Dewon Day). I know KW doesn't like to "mortgage the future" but this team is looking old and it seems like the best shot at the future is now. None of them are going to be used as a starter in the big leagues this year anyway, so they can transition back to starting in the offseason or something. It really seems like KW's been much less creative in maneuvering the roster than in the past and it's pretty frustrating to watch the garbage the bullpen has been throwing out there recently (and now we probably won't see Thornton for a couple days because he threw two innings today).
  22. It's a good opportunity to get Bobby into a relatively low pressure save situation. Buehrle's been shaky the last couple innings, too. I'd go with Bobby.
  23. The banter between Singleton and Farmer is so awkward. It makes me cringe.
  24. Dye started last year hitting about .150 through the first month and Ozzie stuck with him in the five and six spots. I wouldn't expect Pods to be moving any time soon. Hopefully he's working with Walker every day trying to get a rhythm.
