  1. Marte's starting on Saturday instead of El Duque. Ozzie thinks McCarthy needs a couple days more rest, so the season-long grind doesn't wear him out.
  2. Posting something optimistic was actually very cathartic. I feel much better than I did. Even though what I posted isn't possibly going to happen, I still feel more excited about the upcoming series.
  3. There's a storm in Minnesota with the Sox plane being the last one able to get in. Ozzie, however, misses the flight. The storm lasts all weekend, and Ozzie cannot get a flight to Minneapolis, leaving Harold Baines in charge. Luckily the games go on thanks to the Metrodome. He sets the lineup for the weekend as follows: Pods Iguchi Konerko Dye Uribe Rowand Everett Pierz Crede On the advice of Don Cooper, who says El Duque has "a tired arm," Baines starts McCarthy against Santana. McCarthy pitches a two-hit shutout, which Jenks closes out, while the Sox's only run comes off an Iguchi homer (lucky he was in the game, eh?). The Sox scrape out the other two games, as well. The Royals, inspired by their wins against the Sox and the brilliant managing of Buddy Bell, sweep the Indians, sending the Tribe spiraling. After the White Sox win two out of three against them in the next series, the Indians stand 8.5 behind in the division race, and Sox fans are confident in their lead.
  4. I just submitted a fact: When Vin Diesel looks straight into a solar eclipse, the eclipse goes blind.
  5. It seems to me that Mark the stubborn-son-of-a-b**** is not easily reconciled with Mark the great pitcher, and (this is pure guesswork) perhaps he is not listening to Coop and AJ as much as he probably should. I still love Mark though, and hopefully he'll get it figured out.
  6. I just realized the subtitle only says two plusses. You don't need to point it out.
  7. The three good things about today: 1. The Indians aren't playing. Therefore, although they are the hottest team in baseball, it is impossible for them to win, without a rip in the space time continuum. 2. The offense scored enough to win, for the third game in a row, which has not happened in a while. Now we just need to put it together with a couple decent pitching performances and the sun will shine again (hopefully). 3. I just found out about the random Vin Diesel facts page (www.4q.cc/vin) and I've been laughing my ass off ever since.
  8. During the pregame interview with Konerko today, he just looked plain tired. DJ asked him a couple questions about the clubhouse and he kind of sighed and said they weren't all that happy right now. And this is coming from the only guy who seems to be playing well...it certainly looks as if the Sox players may be growing tired of Ozzie's act already.
  9. BO-BBY! BO-BBY! BO-BBY! Jenks needs a good nickname...
  10. BIG BOBBY'S WARMING!!! P.S. As critical as I am of Timo, i'll still give him props. Also, Blum saved the game for the Sox with his double and slide...GOOD PICKUP KENNY!
  11. Sorry if someone already posted this theory, but Jamie Burke is not on the 40 man roster, and Ozzie has said he'd like a third catcher for September... that would be my best guess as to the reason for this move.
  12. I'm surprised this has not been posted: On Sportscenter before the Cards game they said Griffey had passed through waivers and the Sox and Reds were still working on a deal, although Griffey had not been approached about waiving his no-trade clause yet.
  13. I've not read all the posts, from what I have I'd like to say this entire thread is ridiculous. Buehrle is clearly in what is his best year, after having his worst two years ago in front of a porous defense, and improving last year. Perhaps his pitch count ranges somewhat high sometimes, but he is not a flamethrowing pitcher, so elbow and shoulder problem risks are minimized. People are now looking for things to complain about with this team, and if you have to do that, you should just shut the hell up and be happy we're in first place.
  14. And #23's long and illustrious Spring Training career, of course.
  15. People are forgetting about Darren Lewis, who was our everyday centerfielder (pretty much) during the Bevington years, and had the longest errorless streak in the history of the majors.
  16. My feelings on Timo are that he should be nowhere close to the Major League roster, much less batting in one of the more important spots in the lineup.
  17. Timo casts an intimidating figure at 5'8" and 160 pounds.
  18. Wait, no, an intentional walk to get to Dye...Timo's too dangerous to face in this situation...
  19. Timo's going to clock one...right to second base...
  20. I disapprove of Palmeiro's juicing, but the one thing that always occurs to me whenever a controversy like this occurs is that steroids don't help your batting eye, quick wrists, glove, or any of the many other natural talents you need to be a good player. If Palmeiro has used steroids during his entire career, he deserves whatever s*** he gets, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's not a talented player who could help the Sox. Rip me for saying all this stuff if you like, but everyone (including potential Hall of Famers) makes mistakes...
