Joe Cowley is a joke
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) On the other hand, if he Cabrera is bolting right after the game, what does that say about him in the clubhouse? It's my understanding when the team is the road, often times a bunch of them go out to the bars together, or dinner. I don't see Cabrera making those trips. It's not a huge deal at all. I couldn't care less, as this team is on a roll, and both Cabrera and Dye are having great seasons, but I don't think there is a chance in hell Cabrera comes back. I think it meant he bolted and didn't answer any questions. Doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't meet up with the team or a couple individuals as I assume the team all gets on the bus around the same time while on the road (unless they all have cars, which maybe is the case). And if they do take separate cars, they obviously could all meet at the hotel. I would assume that there are probably a few different cliques in the locker-room and everyone has there comfort zone. I don't buy in for one second that OC doesn't get along with anyone or anything along those lines (he just doesn't have a history of such).

Pretty crazy. I'm pulling for those Dodgers. Tied up with the Dbacks now.

White Sox Winner!
Javy had a rough outing. The good thing is his stuff is still there (I can't say that about Jose).

Teixeira???
QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) You're saying you would dump Konerko to the Braves for a half a year of Teixeria just so we can have the lineup that we had while Konerko was on the DL next season ... thats not going to happen Actually I would be upset if the Sox didn't accept a Konerko/Texeira offer if it was on the table. It would give the Sox an improved bat for this season (Tex) and clear additional payroll to get a legit, impact, star type of player on the roster (or a couple. In addition, the Sox would be getting two first round picks as compensation for when Tex walks. That would be the biggest no brainers in the history of trades (Tex for Paulie). That of course is from the White Sox perspective and if I'm the Braves I wouldn't even consider it unless you were getting some good prospects in return or a significant amount of cash (and on top of that, Paulie would have to be playing productive for them to consider such).

Joe Cowley is a joke
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) FYI, the Trib (Gonzales) said the exact same thing about OC leaving early and not talking to the press, as per his usual. Its not just Cowley saying it. On top of that, I want to point out that I don't necessarily thing its a bad thing that OC left the game and didn't talk to the press. I don't know if I want him going and talking to the press and airing something in public. Let OC and Dye handle the situation behind closed doors. No need to comment about it in public.

Should Dotel be the interim closer?
That was the best I've seen Dotel look in a Sox uni. His velocity was up (hitting 93-94 consistently) and that FB had great life to it.

Joe Cowley is a joke
QUOTE (Nokona @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) This guy rides vendettas incredibly hard. I can not believe we have to put up with his petty bulls*** over and over again. First it was Uribe, now he takes potshots at OC. Not to mention all the badmouting he did towards AJ. This is beat journalism? Well I'm glad I switched majors. What a f***ing joke this guy is. Chris Deluca was on ESPN First Take this morning and said how OC still hasn't really adjusted to the clubhouse. I was surprised because OC and Swisher seem to always be joking around and I haven't seen anyone verbally upset with OC (aside from yesterday's Dye incident). Either way, Cabrera has played tremendously and has always been regarded as a great clubhouse guy anywhere else he's been.

Your first place Chicago White Sox!
I don't get everyone saying how much Texas stinks. They are 36-25 since May 1st.

2008 AL Central Catch-All Thread
In fact, the Rangers have played as good of baseball as the Angels since May 1st (or sometime around than).

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
It could make sense if the Hawks have someone else out there that they'd like to acquire via trade to fill the offensive void. Afterall, they'd be clearing a lot of caproom and still have some role-players which are expendable that they could package in a deal for a good offensive player.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) So was Felix Diaz back in 2003. Diaz didn't dominant all of major league baseball in his inagural season in the majors.

Anybody still have the July Calendar?
You can also go to the How Does it Work Forum. I usually move the calendars there after about a week.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
IF LA was able to sign Okafor or Smith this off-season I'd still consider them a very good team. I happen to like Okafor a lot and I believe a Kaman/Okafor front court would be very very strong.

Economic Stimulus Check
I don't really plan on spending it, rather put it in savings. However, I guess you can say with the extra money in savings I was able to go on a trip to Chicago (well will be going on a trip to Chicago, HEHE).

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) I'm not 100% sure, but the wording would seem to suggest they do: "In a nutshell, the Larry Bird exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to re-sign their own free agents, at an amount up to the maximum salary. To qualify as a Bird free agent, a player must have played three seasons without being waived or changing teams as a free agent." Technically he's still "their" free agent, they just don't hold an option year or an option to match the contract anymore. What was the difference in what happened with Brand and Davis. Did the Clippers actually renounce the rights to Brand after he opted out? I'm assuming that is the case and the Warriors did not do that? I ask that because I remember reading that the Clippers did not have Larry Bird rights with Brand due to something (I know Brand opted out same as Davis, but the question is did the Clippers also renounce his rights to clear additional room for Davis).

Trade Idea...
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) For once, I just completely disagree with you here, Gage. Dang, thats pretty rare. I usually read your posts and decide I don't have to comment (cause they are typically right in line with my thought process). I do say that from the Cubs stand-point it has to be considered a steal because Gallagher is the only person who had any value to them (Patterson/Murton were not going to have an impact on the Cubs anytime in the near future unless significant injuries occurred).

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) They don't have enough money to get him, the only teams with any cap space left are the Clippers, Golden State and Memphis. They'd have to work out a major sign-and-trade with Golden State and they really don't have any good, young talent to send back. Does Golden State have enough cash to put together a sign and trade deal? I'm assuming they are limited by the cap in what they can offer Davis since he opted out? Or am I mistaken in that and they can still offer him a max deal.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
Apparently Baron Davis cancelled his press conference. I'm sure he's having second thoughts but Golden State no longer has the cap room to come up with an attractive offer and Philly is out of the equation. Memphis won't spend money and the Hawks need to use there caproom on at least one of Smith/Childress. Bottom line, Davis isn't going anywhere but LA. He'll think things for a while and realize thats the case. I don't really know if he could work out a sign and trade given that Golden State doesn't have bird rights to him anymore or the money to put together a significant sign and trade.

DJ Carrasco Takes Jenks' Spot
He's got major league experience (3 seasons with the Royals; 4.81 ERA in 230.1 minor league innings but has walked 106 and posted an alarming 1.55 WHIP) which is what I believe the Sox were looking for. Thanks for that info Quick. I had been waiting for practically a day now to see who the heck they would be calling up. Somewhere Wasserman has to be disappointed but he really struggled both times he came up this season. Carrasco has posted the following numbers in AAA Charlotte: 1-1, 2.38 ERA, 7 G (1 GS), 22.2 INN, 21 H, 23 K, 7 BB Didn't pitch this season until June 8th.

Bobby Jenks headed to DL
Is it weird that they played with 24 guys yesterday and still haven't made an announcement of who is up? I did see Elo in the dugout at yesterdays game (not that it means he's playing as I believe he's been traveling with the team and working with Cooper on some strength and conditioning type stuff to help increase his velocity).

7/8 Games - Tuesday Night
Bahaha, I just turned sigs back on for the first time in two years and saw your sig Dan. Love it. In terms of Escobar, can't comment much on him, but you don't get fast tracked the way he has been without having some sort of tools. I'll try to ask around and get some more info on him when I get a chance. Also, anyone notice how KW Jr. has not really played over the past week. I wonder if he's hurt of if its due to him being mired in something like an 0 for 20 slump.
