  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) I'm a little surprised AJ and Carlos didn't break the tie against this hack of a Cub starter. Bad 2 at bats there. What was so bad about AJ's at bat?
  2. What a joke of an article by the sportsbybrooks blog. They clearly are trying to stir crap. I'm going to ignore the garbage posted in such article and just go back to tipping my cap once again to one of the greatest pitchers to don a Sox uniform, Mark Buehrle!!!!! I love Mark!!!!!!
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) I was told Poreda was bad (6 innings, 6 runs) but 2008 draft pick Hudson was excellent (4 inning, 7 K) Rough first inning, but he picked up after that. The Sox are clearly working on a few things with Poreda and long-term it will really be beneficial for him. As long as he stays healthy I have no doubt he'll make an impact at the major league level, the question is whether he'll be able to develop the secondary stuff to become a starter of if he'll end up being a reliever. Regardless, he has a future in the bigs as long as he stays healthy. Hudson was one of many rock solid picks by the Sox. I hope the developmental people in the org can do there job because the past two years the Sox have actually started collecting some "raw" arms and now they'll need to teach and develop those arms. The system still has a long long way to go, but they had to start somewhere and I've liked the approach they've taken, although it still isn't perfect in my eyes (if they sign Upchurch and Danks I'll be a lot more pleased though, haha).
  4. I'm not knocking Getz, I've probably been higher than Getz than 99% of people on this board (and that has been the case since he was selected). I've long projected him as a guy who could at his upside be Mark Grudzelanek and I really stick to that evaluation. I don't know when he'll get a chance in Chicago but I figure worse case we'll at least get to see a sneak peak of him in September and he'll obviously get a shot in spring training next year (if he's still in the org) but I still believe he's behind Danny Richar on the depth chart (given Richar's better "skill-set" and upside). This of course is dependent on the Sox going with Ramirez at SS and trusting in Richar/Getz to take over second which may not actually be the case.
  5. I'm sure it was an organizational move more than anything else. I don't think there is anyone in the org that actually thinks Oney is a legitimate major league prospect. That isn't a knock on Oney, just more a reality and you can say that about a very good chunk of players playing in minor league baseball. However, there always ends up being a few guys that maybe weren't legitimate prospects (or guys who scouts at least felt had some sort of chance at making the majors) that find ways to make it and thats why people stick around (that and the love of the game).
  6. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) its omer asik I can't say enough how much I love this pick. I clearly haven't ever seen him play, but based on what the experts say we are talking about acquiring a lotto talent in the 2nd round of the draft. The reason he fell is that he recently signed a 5 year deal with his Turkish squad but the Bulls don't have any roster space so he wouldn't even be able to get the playing time needed to develop here (and if he did, it would cut into the development of Noah/Thomas and end up hurting all parties). Now this guy will get a couple years overseas playing in the Euro league (which will be very good for his development) and eventually come over here (Pax seemed to indicate that this was a guy that could really help them out 3 years from now, so that would lead me to believe he'll play two seasons over in Europe and than if everything goes as planned they'd bring him over; than again, he may fizzle out or who knows).
  7. Would have liked to see Shelby or Poreda instead of Getz (just because Getz isn't that "star" type of prospect). Interested in seeing Richard again.
  8. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) In case anyone cares, the Dodgers lineup: 1. Pierre LF 2. Kemp CF 3. Martin 3b 4. Loney 1b 5. LaRoche 2b 6. Young RF 7. Berorra SS 8. Ardoin C 9. Kershaw P Martin @ 3b is interesting. I looked it up, and apparently he's started 6 games at 3b this year. I thought he was only used as an emergency 3b. Martin has been trying to convince the Dodgers to let him play shortstop.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) When a team gets a huge new practice facility and changes their uniforms just for you, you won't be going anywhere. Plus, Cleveland is right by his hometown of Akron. It'd probably be Deng for Redd, or TT and Nocioni for Redd. Are you willing? 6:35 is what I'm hearing. Deng for Redd is laughable. Deng is better than Redd by a longshot already and that is before you factor in age and everything else. Nocioni and Tyrus Thomas would probably be a fair deal though for both sides, although the Bulls aren't going to acquire Redd without a plan to clear out the log-jam of 2 guards they have (ie, Hughes/Gordon/Hinrich).
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) I disagree 100 pct with this. If they haven't won a title or gotten back to the finals, Lebron will be gone.
  11. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Jefferson's really not much else than a scorer though. Never been a good rebounder, and he's average defensively IIRC. Still he's the best player in the deal (might not be the case at the end of next season however). For a 3, Jefferson is a pretty darn good all around player (he can score, rebound and get assists, although he does have a high TO rate).
  12. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) I've heard they like Westbrook, it'll be him or Bayless they take. They could have stayed at #7 and took Gordon (who Seattle will probably take at #7 now), but they traded up for a PG it seems. Eric Gordon is good but his upside to me is that of a player similar to Ben Gordon and that isn't necessarily an asset (at least not early in there careers when they get to the point where they eventually dupe a team to give a not very well rounded player a max or near max deal.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) Is there anyway that next week the Bulls have a backcourt of Rose and Redd? Because that would be awesome. Redd shouldn't be too hard to acquire and could probably be had for a package built around Hinrich (although you'd have to add someone else with some upside because Redd > Hinrich). However, the question is if this team is building around Rose does getting Redd really help you long-term (which is a couple years from now when the team will be competing for a title). That is the key, if you go Rose, you have to make sure you built the team around guys who are going to be at there best when he's in his prime (you still need vets, whom you can acquire with the MLE that can help the squad get in the playoffs, but you need to make sure you keep as many young pieces to grow with Rose as possible).
  14. Clippers acquired the 4th pick and will be taking bayless, imo. However, getting the 4th pick does give Miami a guarantee that if they move down they'd get a PG to put next to Wade. Richard Jefferson traded to the Bucks for Yi & Simmons
  15. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) I just wonder what the cap situation will be with that. Hinrich makes what $9M a season, Wade would be on about $17M or so, Deng will probably be on $10-12M a season, and Brand would be about $15M, that's a lot of money for 4 players, from around $48-53M or so. But yeah it could be doable, but the Heat would have to be under the cap enough for them to acquire that extra salary. Which means they'd have to trade Marion first. There were actually rumors in NY of Marbury and the #6 going to New York for Marion to re-unite with D'Antoni. I guess the Knicks would actually have a good wing defender for a change. But yeah, the Clippers won't do Marion for Brand straight up I wouldn't have thought, not when they already have Maggette and Al Thornton. The Heat may have to throw in a Haslem or some draft picks to make that deal happen. Magette has the ability to be a UFA so its not a forgone conclusion that he stays in LA.
  16. Chad Ford recently added that he felt it would take the #1 pick to get Dwayne Wade. Mentioned the following: #1 pick, Tyrus Thomas, and Drew Gooden (plus additional salary filler). I personally would make the deal in a heart-beat and than make a move to acquire Elton Brand (without giving up Noah and hopefully Sefolosha). Gordon (or Hinrich)/Nocioni/Future picks in a sign and trade for Elton Brand. The plan would be to use Hinrich/Gordon in a spot-shooting roll (they'll also be the primary ball handlers). Long-term you obviously hope to develop Thabo for such role. Thabo would get numerous minutes off the bench at the 1/2 while Hughes (if kept) would get lots of minutes at the 1 through 3 off the bench (bench scoring would be his big job). You know you got scoring in the post in Brand and Noah just does his think defensively and on the glass. Not a bad looking lineup if you ask me.
  17. Also, need I mention the age factor? Hinrich as down of a season as he had is young and still well thought of in the league (I have no problem keeping him in fact I think its stupid how much the bulls have soured on him, but with Rose coming in they have to move Kirk). Hell, the Bulls could probably have a shot at putting together that exact lineup mentioned above using the #1 pick, Gordon, Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, and Larry Hughes (possibly Drew Gooden as well).
  18. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) Considering what Hinrich produced last season, and what his value around the league would be, and his sizeable contract, I'd rather the #5 pick myself, especially when you could get a Jerryd Bayless there who I consider a better prospect than Hinrich was coming out of college. Miami needs an outside shooter, and I'm sure palehosefan will probably back this up. But they heavily missed Kapono this last season. You have Wade driving to the paint on numerous occasions, you are going to need some shooters to open up the floor for him. Miller could easily be a 20PPG guy for the Heat. Is he as good as Deng? Probably not, but I'd say he's got a more well rounded offensive game. Lowry would be an ideal backup PG for the Heat. I like him as a scrapper, reminds me of Earl Watson a little. I would rather for a rebuilding team to get Miller, Lowry and Bayless than Deng and Hinrich, but that's JMHO. I'm just wondering how do the Heat fit Deng and Hinrich into their cap? They'd have to dump Marion on someone, and would they then be able to target Elton Brand? Probably why a trade down a spot to get O.J Mayo really makes the most sense for them if they are going after Elton. EDIT: Oh and I forgot 1 big thing, Memphis will take on Mark Blount's contract. Thinks it's got 2 years left at $8M or something like that. That's another positive for the Heat - Grizz deal. What if the Heat are able to work it out to where they get a lineup consisting of: Hinrich Wade Deng Brand Insert Stiff Here That is a pretty dynamic 4some and isn't out of the realm of possibility (although it would be hard to pry Brand from the Clips without having a draft pick to give up in addition to Marion). Regardless of that Marion is gone gone gone and Hinrich/Wade/Deng is about as good of a trio of wing-men that you can have.
  19. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) Yeah it is shipps. But when the #2 pick is basically up for grabs (which really never happens), there's going to be a lot of rumors thrown around. Whether or not it eventuates, we'll wait and see. I still think the Miller + Lowry + #5 pick for #2 is better than what the Bulls could offer at this stage, unless they can get creative. Would have to be Deng and Thomas IMHO at least. Hinrich or Gordon I don't think will be good enough to use with Tyrus. The odds of getting a player as good as Deng/Hinrich at the 5 pick aren't that great. Miller is a solid player but Deng is better and I'd probably grade Hinrich in a similar mold to Miller. Lowry is incredibly over-rated. Therefor, I'm going to say the Bulls deal is better. Now if Mike Conley is involved in the deal, than it might get a little more interesting.
  20. Exactly. I imagine if the Bulls deal Hinrich we'll see that same thing happen (because he is much easier to trade as of July 1st).
  21. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) He's an rfa, so he's not under contract. Technically they can still work out a trade though, it just can't be official as of today.
  22. You also have to remember at that point in time, no one thought the Rockies were going to compete so they could deal with the learning curve a bit more than the Sox may be able to. It all depends on where the Sox are the next 2 years or so.
  23. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) Deng can't be traded yet. Why can't Deng be traded? I assume its just a timing thing and that its something that can be agreed upon and than actually occurs at a later date?
  24. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) Is he even a FA? I thought I heard his name mentioned in the Baron Davis for Wallace and Billups talk a few days ago. Interesting because he's not a FA, but I've seen a few places saying the Bulls will be going after him using the MLE.
