How the hell were some of those guys Type A players (Sean Casey...David Delluci...Aubrey Huff...Kevin Millar). WOW.

f***....I love having a shortstops arm at 2nd. Mix that with Iguchi's not so strong arm and wow...nice turn. -

Oh and I love how Floyd is actually throwing in. I still would like to see him work a bit down in the zone before going up to his high heater (I think it would make it better). Thank you Erstad...you should have made that play cause that was damn near impossible for Richar. Defense continues to f***ing suck for Floyd today. -

Probably wanted to give Dye a day off, especially considering the wet conditions. I'm glad I get to see Richar, Fields, and Owens play plus Floyd start. -
Fields had a nice double today...but also a bonehead error on a popup in foul territory and a brutal baserunning mistake (almost had a second base running gaffe but he got away with it and was able to get back in time).

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) Some here think Floyd needs a fair chance to prove himself. It's too bad he's so mentally weak. Just pitch and he'll be fine. But that won't happen. Bob Sit Contreras down....let Floyd pitch and see what he can do and if things don't go well you call up Egbert and give him a shot. Either way Contreras is not the future and Floyd could be the future. We are seeing today what he can do when he has a bit more faith in his nasty curve. Plus he's just pitching more confidently and aside from a couple squibbers could have an even better game going thus far today (although there is still plenty of baseball left). Regardless you see the talent that he possesses. Let him get comfortable up here or at least give him that shot. That is all I ask.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) The Birmingham Barons are apparently playing the Diamondbacks AA affiliate as Aaron Cunningham is playing CF. 0-3 tonight so far. But on the season as a whole, he has batted .315 with 12 homers and 59 rbi's. Plus 27 SB in 38 attempts with 39 walks compared to 65 K's. .378 OBP and .885 OPS. Don't get me wrong, I like Richar, but I liked Cunningham more, and I really wish we could have keep him. I really wouldn't mind KW pulling a Gio with him in the offseason. I think its the type of deal that works out for both squads, but man I really think Richar has all the tools.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 08:03 AM) July update for D Lucy… Donny had an OK July. His average was down a bit at .250 (was .296 in June), but his OBP was actually higher at .357 (was .333 in June). As seems to be the trend, Lucy picks one particular area of hitting to work on in a given month – this month apparently it was taking walks, which he did 10 times in 82 PA’s (he had 20 in 253 the previous months combined). He also has started stealing more bases – he was 6 for 6 in July, and is now 13 for 14 (92.8%) on the season. He ended the month on a high note – he is hitting .343 in his last 10 games. Here are his July splits: AVG: .250 G: 22 AB: 72 R: 11 H: 18 2B: 3 3B: 0 HR: 2 RBI: 10 BB/K: 10/19 SB/ATT: 6/6 OBP: .357 SLG: .375 OPS: .732 And his season stats so far (includes the game on 8/1): AVG: .269 G: 87 AB: 290 R: 42 H: 78 2B: 17 3B: 0 HR: 6 RBI: 27 TB: 113 BB/K: 30/59 SB/ATT: 13/14 OBP: .343 SLG: .390 OPS: .732 After Gustavo Molina was taken off waivers by Baltimore, leaving a catching slot open in Charlotte, it seemed likely that Lucy was headed for a promotion to AAA. Instead, Adam Ricks from Winston-Salem jumped AA and took that slot. It is unclear why this occurred, given Ricks’ lackluster performance and recent move to catching, but its possible that Ricks is to be a backup in Charlotte behind Wiki. This would allow Lucy to continue to start in B-Ham. Seems to me that Gonzalez doesn’t have much a future here though, so I’d rather see Lucy starting in Charlotte, but we’ll see how things go. ETA: Forgot to update his SB/CS numbers against. in July, he threw out 36% of runners attempting to steal. Since 4/21, he has thrown out 45% of runners attempting to steal. On the season total, he has throw out 39% of attempted base stealers. Lucy will stay at AA until Gio/Egbert are promoted to AAA. He handles the two of those guys so very well and has such a good rep that the org isn't going to mess with that chemistry. My guess is you may see Egbert at the major league level in the next month but I don't know if we will see Gio up there or not. However, if those guys do get promoted to AAA, you can bet your ass Lucy will be going as well. Edit: After saying all that, I realize he was promoted so shows what I know, LOL.

I cheered for Bonds tonight in San Diego when he hit 755. I was so surprised, bought tickets last night on ticketmaster and was 8 rows up from first base on the field. f***ing sick when he hit the HR. With a 2-1 count in the 2nd inning, I turned to my dad and said this is his pitch....755 happens right now and than bam. He was really seeing the ball well and I was dissapointed Hensley pitched around him the next 2 times. I'm not sure what the overall reaction was, but from my perspective where I was sitting (there were a bunch of Giant fans around me) I heard cheering (probably 80% cheers). They booed like hell when he took left field to start the game...but once the hr was hit he got a big time standing ovationg from the crowd (my take is, no matter how big of a prick he may be...he's still a f***ing legendary baseball player who just tied one of the greatest statistical feats in any sport, let alone just baseball).

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) Saw that lat night, so f***ed up. Just the way he was flailing all the way down, wow. I've seen the clip like 20 times and it still hurts every time I'm watching it. Amazing the guy actually could walk right after and was solely taken to the hospital so they could monitor him.

You guys are kidding me? You are seriously comparing Heath Bell and the stats he's put up with Petco against Bobby Jenks. The two aren't even on the same f'in level. Plus that doesn't even factor in that Bell is in the NL and pitching in the ultimate pitchers delight. Oh and whether you like it or not, one is a proven closer (and I've seen enough relievers not be able to close the door for me to know that the 9th inning isn't the same as the 8th).

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Jason, Applebee's S. Carolina, KH 28, bloomin onions? why am I invisible here? And lets not forget Honel's escalade Those were some good times....you stalker you.
-
Cripes...he'll flash some great stuff yet he has such a difficult time repeating his delivery that he makes so many mistakes that get hit 400+ feet. I still want him up...we need to see if he can figure it out this year and if he doesn't, I write him off completely.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) Andy Gonzalez will be on the bench next year and I'd say there's a 50/50 chance you see Cintron retained. There is no way Cintron will be back. I'd be stunned if either Cintron/Uribe are back. I would not be shocked to see Mack brought back though.
-
I think there is a decent chance you see Egbert make a few starts this year or at the very least pitch out of the pen a lot. I am puzzled/surprised that Donny Lucy wasn't promoted to Charlotte. I expect him to be given every opportunity to succeed and I wouldn't be shocked if he's the Sox backup next year (with Hall being moved) and if he isn't the backup it will be because the Sox are hoping he can make enough strides with the stick to replace AJ as the starter.

QUOTE(BamaJason @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Heard a rumor tonight at the Barons game that Honel retired today. I don't know if it is true or not; has anyone else heard this? Well I wish Kris the best of luck. He was once one of the org's top prospects and he battled around and busted his butt to come back numerous times.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
Chisoxfn replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) Yet, if Garland is traded 12 million is free to pursue major league talent. In addition to whichever package of prospects/MLB players are collected. I don't regard Contreras' salary as an albatross next season. We'll still have a payroll around 90 million. I much rather have 12 million available + players from Garland deal rather than 10 million available + box of crap from Contreras deal. What exactly are we doing the next several seasons that it matters whether Contreras is gone? I'm still extremely pessimistic about our immediate future. If we're looking for talent, we'll have to surrender talent. And even though Williams is too proud to ever begin a complete rebuilding process, we can't rebuild our farm system with Tadahito Iguchi and Jermaine Dye trades. He'll have to take a risk, eventually. Flash...you are nuts...10 million is gonna be a kick in the nuts considering how many holes this squad will have in the outfield and potentially the middle infield (plus a vet reliever or two hopefully). The Sox need to give up Jose for anything and anything at all...take the money and run as the great steve miller would say. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Don't get your hopes up, my friend. We're stuck with Jose. s***...I didn't realize he bombed another game. If he really is healthy I guess we got tos tick with him at this point hoping somehow he shows something. That or DL him, have him come back in September and hope to hell he has a fresh arm that peaks some teams interest so the club can unload his s***ty contract in the off-season. God I don't want to be stuck with Jose Contreras. I'd rather deal Contreras in the off-season for another terrible outfield contract who could at least be of value to the Sox (since they need outfielders anyway) or someone like Julo Lugo's massive contract (since again that would at least fill a need).
-
QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) We ain't gotta snowball's chance in hell of anyone biting on Jose. I'm hoping the guy just ups and retires, maybe he has some pride and won't want to be embarassed anymore and just quits. He'll likely clear waivers immediately, which means at that point the Sox are free to negotiate with any team IIRC. I'm not saying it will happen, but all it takes is one or two good starts or him to find ihs velocity (yes its not likely, but it is possible) and at that point you can still get a good prospect or two for him (of course this prospect would have to most likely not be on the 40 man roster because otherwise he would have to clear waivers to get to Chicago, albeit there aren't many teams worse than the Sox).
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) The Mackowiak trade saves about $916K this year I would love it if we took some of that money and threw it at a couple tough signs from this years draft as well as pooled up some of it for potential international FA's or next years draft (going to some guys that would be drafted later on in the draft yet being offered well above slot money). Thats at least what I"d do with the money from the Iguchi/Mack deals. Plus we added two prospects (and yes we have no clue whether these guys will be good but I never expected more than A ball guys for those two). I am extremely pissed that we didn't move Dye but I Got to catch up and see what the offer was that Kenny inevitably turned down (i will s*** a brick if the Sox don't offer Dye arbitration though...oh my god I will s*** a brick). Right now I'm a dissapointed fan, but I can't comment more than that until I see what the hell was not done (by Kenny). If he didn't get a fair deal I understand and I now expect Sweeney to play a boatload from here on out (and I'm hoping we can maybe slide a guy or two through waivers and move them soon enough...wink wink...Contreras). Plus Dye probably makes it to some of the lower level teams in the race (which means you still have an outside shot at moving him, but clearly he doesn't make it to the Red Sox or any NL team).
-
Don't count out the Rockies.
-
Interesting stuff. If the Sox are giving up a prospect it better be a low talent type guy.
-
That would be freaking stellar.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:27 AM) I liked that movie when it was called "Rounders" or ten other movies... But like most s***ty movies, the director calls in Chris Walken at the last minute to bail the movie out. Poolhall junkies was fanastic and most of those guys weren't actors they were pool players (or at least thats what I remember hearing).
