QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Your movies is too smart fer me. Thats why I'm going to see Superbad tonight.
  3. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) The Angels didn't have a first round pick this year, which affects things quite a bit. Considering what they gave Weaver recently, I would say they'd be closer to the top if they had one, and I wouldn't have put it past them to draft/sign Porcello. I damn near guarantee over the past 3 years the Angels are the #1 spending team on the draft. The one thing that could throw that out is the ocassional top top draft picks that get some major bonuses and you have to realize that when you pick lower in the first round you typically won't have any major contracts and thus the results are skewed (as top 10 picks can significantly make more). You also have some teams that have numerous compensation picks and the like. I think your better off (if you want to evaluate whether a franchise is notoriously cheap) by averaging it out over a 5-10 year draft window (as that will even out things such as numerous compensation picks one year or one major signing bonus given to a player one season).
  4. FSC has quite a few of the games on live every week (and replays of a lot of them too). If your like me, who stays off of any soccer website its pretty easy to just watch your replays (cause I don't know the outcome of the games yet when I see them).
  5. Redding gets the tie. Don't ask me how, but they did.
  6. Can someone explain to me how the promotion stuff works. If you finish out of the top half that means you get demoted, yet you still play the same teams (but are you like unable to compete for the championship or something)? On a sidenote, Man U is f***ing dominating yet its still 0-0. Redding seems like they've had the ball for maybe 5 minutes (and the game is in the 82nd minute).
  7. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 08:08 AM) From the sox side, a 2 yr deal with the 3rd year a team option makes sense. Dye probably wants a 3 yr deal. With Thome probably retiring after 2009, the sox could use Dye at DH in 2010 that 3rd year. Dye could get 4 on the open market (no problem at all). I think the Sox will go 3 years.
  8. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 09:33 AM) How exactly do they do that? I'm assuming he means dump him just to dump his salary (but again, the question is whether a team is willing to do that). There is no doubt Kenny is going to want to move at least Jose just to free up payroll (as I think he's concerned he has too much money tied into his starting rotation) especially when he has major holes in the outfield and middle infield.

  10. QUOTE(Cali @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) f***ing Orange County... Haha....I was just saying that when I was in LA this past weekend (except my version went...f***ing LA).
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 07:22 AM) Isnt there park regarded as one of the best when it comes to food? It makes you wonder about those hot dogs and polish sausages....... The funny thing was the day before that article came up, I was on the Angels ticket site listing a couple of my season seats for sale (I sell a good number of games throughout the year and than just go to like 20-25 games) and I see a big article saying Angels food rated #1 in MLB. Next day I get an email from a buddy (we were giong to the Red Sox game that night) going, we picking up food somewhere else for tonight's game (with a link about the food code issues). Either way I probably actually eat at the stadium 2-3 times a year (you are allowed to bring your own food in, so I typically just stop at this center across from the stadium) but I hope they clean that crap up (its about the first bad PR to come out of Anaheim in a long while).
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) BUT THE SPEED! WHAT WILL WE DO WITHOUT THE SPEEDDD!!!! Technically Kenny better find some speed for the top of the order, stick Richar at the 9 spot and hopefully get a guy like Rowand or whomever for the 2 spot in the lineup (I'd like Richar down in the lineup so he doesn't have a ton of pressure next year; I could even live with Fields in the 2 spot as I think that gives him great protection and allows him to see such good pitches and get more confident). That should significantly upgrade team speed to a point and than you obviously still have the boppers in the middle.
  13. I think the Sox are holding onto Erstad in the hope that they will be able to move him to a team (basically hoping that he will get on a bit of a hot streak and allow the Sox to get an A ball player for him). If it doesn't happen you'll probably see the Sox waive him just before the month comes to an end so Erstad can at least try to stick on to some other team (regardless of what Soxtalk thinks of Erstad, the organization likes his attitude and work ethic and I think at some point or another they will let him walk with the hope that he'll be able to pick up a gig somewhere else and maybe help a playoff team). I also agree on getting to see Jason play. He seems like he could a pretty darn solid bench player for the club (and the more of those there are, the less the odds of me seeing Andy Gonzalez or Alex Cintron next year).
  14. Is there sarcasm in that...because thats a pretty assholish statement to make if he's actually serious or semi serious.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) I really hope we let Gavin pitch enough the rest of the year to decide yes or no on him, because if he's as bad as he's looked in most of his time on the mound so far, I don't want to waste the time next season. Fields is the man, Count looking great out of the pen again is a REALLY good sign. Also, Richar had some GREAT at bats, and seperately here, when you consider the fact that we needed a solo HR (or at the least, a man on base) and Erstad entered the at bat 4 for his last 25 including leaving them loaded earlier tonight, I am confused why we didn't pinch hit Paulie for him with 2 outs in the 9th. We got what we deserved tonight though, here's to a series win against the punching bag Jeff Weaver. I''ll only say this once....Paul Konerko gets full days off, he wasn't going to pinch hit (ozzie wanted to give him a rest and a full rest in baseball means you don't play at all in the game...even a pinch hit appearance). For guys that sit more often he's happy to pinch hit, but in Paulie's case you will rarely if ever see it because he takes a day off so rarely. Hell I'm surprised Ozzie's even managing at this point, if I were running the team the only thing I'd be managing is the development of the team and whatever served me best for 2008 (and I actually think Ozzie has done a good job with that).
  16. I didn't like Tiger early on in his career, but the more I watch the more I like and the more I'm amazed. Do it again tomorrow Tiger!!!!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) It will be interesting to see what the deal is with Sisco. Is he a guy who can't relieve, or is he a guy who just never developed because he never got to pitch enough? The way he has rounded into form, I think I am leaning towards #2. The way he has looked as a starter, I bring him into camp as a starting pitcher and give him a chance to win the #5 spot. (one of Vaz, Garland, or Contreras will be dealt in the offseason, I think) If Andy can't win the job as a starter, send him back to Charlotte as the closer and see if he can do that. If he still can't relieve down there, you know he will have to be a starter. His development was really cut short when he was selected in the rule V. Lucky for him he caught fire and pitched very well for a good chunk of the time with the Royals but the reality is this is a kid that really never got time to work and really develop into a good major league pitcher (he does have a major league arm though). I really hope he's worked on his strides as Sisco was a guy who would always finish his stride (as part of his delivery) in a new place every pitch and that in itself is going to make it awfully freaking tough to throw strikes consistently.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) I'm pretty sure Sisco's not out of options. He wasn't on the Cubs 40-man in '05, which is why he was a rule 5 pick, which meant that he had to stay in the majors all year unless injured, which means he didn't burn an option that year, which means he's only burned options in the last two seasons, and thus has one remaining. That would be sweet (I thought I read where he was out, but I should know better than trust the papers as they can be off on that type of stuff). In that case the Sox can play around with him a bit next year and it makes Masset the guy to watch this off-season (They are going to have to be pretty confident in him to keep him, especially considering the other 5th starter options, and the fact that with a good finish to AAA he could still have decent trade value). I say this because I think the pen is almost finished (Wasserman, Logan, Jenks, Thornton, MacDougall, Bukvick all seem likely to stick). The two guys that could change are obviously Wasserman/Bukvick (if they struggle in the last month that could open up another spot, but again that spot could be filled by a number of Masset/Sisco/Floyd or someone else). As bad as our pen is, I kind of expect a lot of the same pieces to be back in the pen next year (the key is MacDougall and Thornton will have to step up there game again). And no, I'm not saying that will necessarily be a good pen but I still feel some of those guys are more than likely to have much better seasons in 2008.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) First pitch strike was non-exsistant tonight for Floyd. Plus it didn't help that the Sox blew a few chances early to get some runs. The middle of the order was just pointless today. It was great to see Josh with the bomb off of Putz, and Jose was just great after he got loose. Contreras will be making the next start in Floyds spot if I were a betting man. Contreras is scheduled to start on Sunday against the Mariners IIRC (he was already scheduled to make that start) as he will be replacing Danks for one start (Sox are going to skip Danks turn after he makes his start tomorrow). I think Seattle is as good of a place as any for Jose to make one more start for the Sox (and hopefully have a good enough performance that the club can move him and his entire contract for a prospect). That said, it will be interesting to see whether Gavin makes the next start. I think he will (but there is also a chance you see someone like Masset, Egbert or Sisco get a shot as well). Of course I'm saying that because unlike most I still think the Sox find a taker for Contreras before August comes to an end (I also think they'll deal Pods as well as acquire/pick up Willy Mo Pena).
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 08:58 PM) Is Sweeney playing again yet? Yep, he went 1-4 on Friday (which was his first game back).
  22. That was out of the piece on the Tribune and they didn't say anything else but my guess is there are some good indications being given (to the various reporters) that the two sides have had good talks and that the feelings are mutual (with the Sox wanting Dye back and Dye wanting to come back, most likely for less than market value).
  23. Fields at short would be hideous. The guy isn't even average at 3rd defensively and I still think we will see him in left or right field next season (with Crede back at 3rd because in the end 4.5-5M is worth it for one Joe Crede...his bat is still good when he's healthy and he's a legit stud defensively).
  24. I want Floyd to keep starting. At times, even in tonights game, he looked very good (that curve is nasty and he had a little cut fastball or more so a changeup going that at times looked real good). Keep him up and just throw in a random sixth start from time to time (allows Danks to stay fresh and gives Count an ocassional new opportunity). Plus I hold out hope Contreras will be dealt in the next 2 weeks.
  25. Chisoxfn replied to DBAHO's topic in FutureSox Board
Sisco is gonna be more expendable, especially because he's out of options and that in itself hampers what he could do with the Sox. I think they are going to at least look at what type of position prospects they could get for a guy like Sisco (whether an outfielder or a middle infielder). However, I see no problem with Andy eventually sliding back to the pen but I have my doubts on him ever sticking as a starter (however I think moving him to the rotation in AAA was brilliant as it allowed him to improve his secondary stuff and improve his delivery).
