  1. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) KW must be convinced he is going to resign Garland. The Dodgers are ready to trade whoever it takes... this could get real tempting. Plus Colletti is the KW of the NL (in the sense that he isn't afraid to give up young talent to get what he thinks makes him better in the short term). I really would like to make a couple deals with the Dodgers, but I don't know if that happens. I think the only way Contreras goes to them is if the Dodgers can't get anything else done and panick. However, Dye or Garland make a s***load of sense. A package involving Kershaw, Kemp and Hu would be stellar.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) Well the Dotel for Kyle Davies trade which seemed completed is apparently far from it so we'll see. I can't see Colletti offering up his #1 prospect for an injury prone setup man especially with the way Saito and Broxton have been pitching all year. Dotel would be a nice get for the stretch run but not at that price. Well apparently the Braves are serious about offering up Davies but are not going to pull the trigger on any deal until the physicals are done and the Tex deal is finalized (according to Olney).
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) If it was Contreras I know you'd personally drive to Chicago to put Kenny's balls in your mouth, but yeah, that was a thought that crossed my mind. Could Dye get Kershaw (i wouldn't think so, plus he's a bit lower level of a prospect) but he is obviously uper talented and would definitely be the blue chipper Williams has been looking for. Would Kershaw and maybe Betemeit be doable (s*** I wouldn't care as long as we got Kershaw, but again, I don't see how that would help the Sox next year and Kenny probably wants a move that helps them next year, unless the deal also involves other guys that help the Sox out...ie a bigger deal involving Garland and Dye). The Dodgers wouldn't be stupid enough to give up Kershaw for Dotel would they?
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) Clayton Kershaw pulled after one inning. Boy, would that be a coup to get Kershaw in a deal (I would have to think it would be Garland and not Contreras).
  5. The guy was killed early in his career by bad Tiger teams and that hampered his development. Last season he seemed to make strides and find some consistency and he wasn't able to match that this year. I don't know if he's having arm trouble or not because he has a very tricky arm angle and good velocity to go with it (especially for a lefty).
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) Understood, but like I said, the down side of this deal, unless Tad could somehow have brought A level draft compensation, is minimal. If nothing else, the Sox save a $ million or so and open up a slot for Richar. So even if it was a bad trade and is stupid, it doesn't hurt us that much. Just would have been nice to get someone with a little bit better prospects to make it to MLB eventuall. It only hurts if we would have got draft picks and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have (despite what rotoworld says).
  7. This is a perfectly acceptable deal if there is a class that prevents Iguchi from being offered arbitration and the Sox getting draft picks if he leaves. But, if the club could get picks this would be a bad deal. I am really excited to get Richar.
  8. Kochman = good Wood = Potentially very good (although lots of risk) Chone Figgins = Speed guy (whose hitting brilliantly though, so I doubt they move him)
  9. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) If I recall correctly, the original lineup of Fox network programming was Tracey Ullman and Married With Children. followed by Tracey Ullman and Married with Children. They then added two more shows - one was called Open House, later named Duet and I think the Garry Shandling Show? I loved Parker Lewis Can't Lose. Parker Lewis was freaking great.
  10. If thats the case, see if they would have interest in Konerko at that price.
  11. He's less heralded than some of there other guys and I think the club could get him (hopefully the Rockies want Contreras, lol).
  12. If we can get Otska on the cheap, sign me up.
  13. The Sox will acquire Seth Smith in any deal involving the Rockies.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) I hope we enjoy that crappy 2nd round sup pick we get from Dye when he signs with the Rangers. I mean, what is the reason to hold on to him. We also get the comp pick and right now those two things are better than other teams are offering, but that doesn't mean we can't move Iguchi, Contreras (for anything) and others.
  15. Good luck Buehrle's
  16. I fear nothing will happen. NOTHING.
  17. Please Jose...throw a no hitter from this point onward.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Ok. Now I've seen it all. Defense of Kenny pre 2005... Boy I sure do wish this board had not crashed back then... I think at that point I was one of the very few that supported him (and its funny cause even with all the crap I've given him from time to time I still like him as the GM...however that could change if he totally messes up this process for retooling or rebuilding in 08.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Eh I concur with Dan...you hypocrite
  20. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) KW's mouth has definitely made me mad over the years and it isn't like he's dealing with a lot of guys like Sheffy. You look around the league and there are always situations where people have left organizations with sour grapes, but it's like that's a routine with the sox. There is a reason why KW and Ozzie like each other so much, they both can't keep their mouthes shut and don't learn from their stubbornness. is it really? Think about all the former Sox players that are brought into the front office/coaching staff or just public relations in general. I think its actually the opposite and the org does a very good job making sure very few people leave with sour grapes.
  21. Kenny as a personsell/gm is very good. The things that bother me are the way he handles certain situations from a PR standpoint. Basically put I think he could be a bit smarter in the public eye but as a whole he knows his stuff, works hard, has severe passion, and is not afraid to be critisized (and the key to being successful is never being afraid, however, it doesn't mean you shouldn't evaluate and take in the opinions of others and I think Kenny does go to his people a lot). Basically put, I still rank him among the 5-7 best GM's in the game.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Good runner I hear... Very good at "bash and dash", too. I was bummed when we lost Fontaine (I think thats who ended up leaving for Seattle to rejoin Bavasi) because he was very well thought of in the scouting circles and was largely given a ton of credit for the strong Angel systems of the late 90's.
  23. One of his sons is supposed to be a very good athlete, but I don't know if that was the one or not.
  24. Laumann was pretty highly regarded around the baseball circle as well and I'm personally glad he's back in charge. You can see he strikes a lot better on later draft picks. Pawlek is a guy that was a highly touted guy we took super late (ended up getting drafted by I think the Cubs pretty early in the draft the next year)...Zach Jackson/Johnson was a top round pick by the Brewers IIRC. Plus you see a lot more hits on later round guys. Brandon McCarthy, Chris Young are two guys that were 10th round or later that turned into upper echelon prospects. Plus Haeger is a pretty respectable late round pick (although I really can't give much credit to anyone on that cause he pretty much dumb lucked his way into finding a knuckle ball and restoring his career...which is a great story).
  25. Renteria for Contreras...sure but for Garland, bahahah.
