  1. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) I'm not watching. How is he bad? Is he up in the zone? Missing his spots? Sinker not moving? Plus he had a comebacker that would have got him out of the jam (a hard hit ball, but one Jon turns a DP on 9 out of 10 times) but he didn't cleanly field it and it turned into an infield single. I say that cause I think Jon is the best fielding pitcher in the AL.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) If I had a bazillion dollars. It would be both, but in reality either one would help us out a lot. Ichiro or Hunter makes this team a lot better. Ichiro gives us a true leadoff hitter. He gives us everything that makes this team better. His arm is a cannon, and he has good defensive instincts. Hunter has great instincts. He also plays the game the right way. He always plays hard nosed. His bat is hit or miss. This year is a great year. He has some pop in his bat. I like what you are thinking there though. I would throw my money at Ichiro or Hunter and it makes this team better. Both of them give us something we dont have. Ichiro would be a fantastic option as well, but I question whether he'll actually leave Seattle and if he does whether Kenny could convince him that the Sox are still capable of winning in the immediate future (which is what Ichiro is going to be interested). Wow...Jon just doesn't have it today. I give him credit for trying, but he's just got to forget all about this one.
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) I didn't see this but didn't look too hard either. Its from the Suntimes. Says Ichiro atop the Sox wish list. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxip06.article I'd be very happy if those were part of the plans. Based on that it sounds like it would be Jose and Javier that are dealt. However, I want to be very clear that if the Sox deal Javier they better intend on giving Garland an extension.
  4. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) Dye forgot he lost 5 steps of his speed since last year. Was Razor waving him?
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:12 PM) The amazing thing about Hunter is his instincts of the crack of the bat. He gets back to the fence, and makes the jump. We have had good defensive guys like Rowand and Anderson, but neither one of those guys had the instincts Hunter has. Hunter is one of the greatest I've ever seen. He just makes everything look ridiculously easy. Plus he has a fantastic attitude and fits in nicely at the 5 or 6 spot of the lineup. He isn't quite what Jermaine was for the Sox last season but he can be a similar type of player, especially when you would factor in the type of hole he would be filling in CF. Plus, with his pop in CF, you could get away with having Sweeney's lack of pop in LF and could than go with a guy like Kemp in RF (and let him develop). Utilize the 2nd/SS spots for the 1-2 spots in the lineup, use Konerko at 1st, DH Crede, move Thome and let Fields play 3rd. It may not be a pretty offense, but for the most part it would have some speed, some vets, and if Konerko/Crede/Hunter do good you have enough pop in the middle (plus Fields) although it is obviously a righty dominated lineup. And you still have AJ's lefty bat and hopefully good speed at the top of the order. Mix that with a rotation that still has at least 2 of Garland/Buehrle/Vaz and you can still compete, imo. If you still have all three of those guys in the rotation than you can clearly compete, imo.
  6. Paulie....come on Jermaine, get a double so we can score both of the slowsters.
  7. Holy s***...Hunter is good. I know he's getting older but I'd still absolutely love to have this guy in CF (especially if the club can get some good young outfielders to have around him and keep most of the rotation in tact). Because as long as you can keep the rotation in tact for the most part, you can compete next season (pitching staffs this good have chances to win).
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) Its the Marlins template offense that Ozzie is after. One speedy guy up top, ala Pierre. Owens seems to be that guy for Ozzie. I would rather have Sweeney up and learning now instead of having Owens out there. Let Andy Gonzales bat first, let Sweeney bat second and rinse and repeat for the rest of the season. I think maybe Ozzie is sending a message to Kenny. I could be wrong, but Ozzie wants a speed guy and he's going to tell Kenny either get me a good one or I'll just trot out a s***ty guy that can run (and yes I'm being overly harsh on Owens but its the truth). Sweeney needs to play cause aside from Fields he is the only position guy that has a chance at being a major league regular (well at least in AAA right now). Oh and Richar obviously has a chance.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Judy was afraid of hitters, this is just a case of everything he throws up there is right down the middle and getting crushed. I'm curious how long we stick with him, as I think we can score quite a few runs on Baker and win this game, but Garland obviously isn't going to do anything resembling go deep into this game unless we let him give up about a dozen runs. No reason to pull him. This is just going to be one of those games Jon needs to battle and get innings cause he'll probably give up a zillion runs but the innings are more important. Maybe he can get his release point at somepoint and not make things any worse.
  10. Toby did a freaking horrible job. Owens wouldn't be bad if his bat speed wasn't so ridiculously slow. Why the f*** Sweeney isn't up here and playing every day is beyond me. I understood with Pods up that the Sox were behooved to play Pods as much as possible hoping you could get him some trade value but Owens isn't the answer. Hall needs to just have his surgery and hope he can play next year. I respect him like no other for toughing it out, but the Sox are toast anyway so get healthy and be ready to play the next two years. Garland has just been bad today, but sometimes that happens.
  11. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) Don't mean to question you, but I didn't think the option was for the season, I think it's the number of times a player can be sent back to the minors. Can this be confirmed by someone ? An option is good for the entire baseball season. So he can go back and forth for the rest of the year.
  12. The rotation would be awful. But I wouldn't mind the lineup. I also wantto point out that there is no way I'd have Howie Kendrick on a bench anywhere. That guy is going to win batting titles. As far as my lineup I can't throw out predictions yet...gotta see what happens with Buehrle.
  13. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 05:15 AM) I think MacDougal would be a fair comparison for a Thornton trade. We sent two live arms to KC. They were A ball arms, so you don't know how they'll mature. The price was fair; just wish MacDougal was better. One was A ball, the other, Lumsden was a AA arm IIRC.
  14. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) Having spent a lot of time in Tucson the one thing I can tell you about Rauch is he had a big league attitude and a low A ball work ethic. The top prospect thing went to his head, he had trouble with coaches and teammates. Right or wrong, those types of guys tend to get less rope. Rauch was a guy that was not liked by many. I won't get more in depth than that, but there were a lot of people celebrating when he left the org. I never heard anyone say a nice thing about Rauch the person.
  15. Are you guys not thinking. I haven't read the entire thread but Ozzie was going to have to maximize what he could from his starter last night because he has a horrid pen and a double header coming up which will involve a guy making his White Sox debut in one of his games (and while I love Floyd you can't just pencil him in for 7 innings). If there wasn't a double header tomorrow I'm going to say he would have been pulled in a normal case.
  16. When Mac was sent back down he was feeling fine, but they sent him down cause he's lost a lot of confidence. He still has had the stuff but I have noticed he hasn't been used as much as of late so maybe his shoulder is a bit sore to the point that he can't pitch on a consistent basis. I'd rather make sure Mac is healthy because i still feel he could be a very valuable piece via trade (if he comes off the DL and throws a couple good games he could get the Sox a nice piece) or a key part to the pen next year (yes I still would count on him next season).
  17. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) Yes, and one of those scouts was Duane Shaffer. He drafted this guy twice and the 2nd time overdrafted him. I don't necessarily like putting blame on just drafting one guy, because every team in baseball overdrafts guys pretty much every year because in the end after the first round or two you got to just go with who you like for the most part (cause you never really know where various guys are on various teams boards) but Brooks was a guy that everyone was shaking there head when he was drafted. Not because he didn't have talent, but because no one in the world had him going when he did. It was similar to some of the draft picks that Billy Beane made early in his career. I do remember the Sox being the one team that really really raved about him (I guess it would have been Shaeffer whose quotes I'm remembering).

    Films

Wow....Transformers was a real winner too. Between Die Hard and Transformers I've actually seen two straight very very entertaining movies. Must be a record cause I was about to write off movies as becoming horrible.
  19. Listen Here The past couple weeks Mario and Jason discussed the fire sale, the organization's ineptitude over the Buehrle fiasco and now finally they've put the focus on the Sox biggest weakness....the bullpen. Do Mario and Jason think anyone in the pen should be around next season or do the Sox have a couple keepers in the pen. Gage and Scalise not only discuss this, but they throw out some scenarios in which they move certain relievers and write off certain relievers. Our second segment (brought on by the requests of the masses...ie our 5 listeners) involves a lecture by self proclaimed minor league expert Jason Gage, who teaches Scalise and the listeners a thing or two about the guys to be on the look out for in the Sox system (warning this segment is not for the faint to heart as Gage will point out the harsh reality that is the complete lack of position prospects in the org). So check it out, and give us some more feedback as well as information on what else you'd like us to banter about in our next show (which will be next weekend...barring some trades which would bring on an earlier special edition of SSR). Listen Here
  20. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) I wonder who nominated SoxTalk, they must be a dedicated member? Also, don't forget to vote from 26-30 July for SoxTalk.
  21. Funny cause I remember this guy initially getting some comparisons to Mariano Rivera (just in terms of his deliver and arm action). Boy were those scouts off, haha.
  22. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Sickels had both Ellsbury and Bowden listed as B or B+ prospects coming into the year. Pena and either of those guys would be OK with me (not that anyone cares). I don't remember saying it, but if I said the Sox should trade Garland for 2 B prospects, I was wrong. He should be able to command an A prospect like Kemp plus something else from a contending team. Garland should command two A level prospects and a B level prospect. If you can't get that keep him and try to get that for Vazquez.
  23. QUOTE(heirdog @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) Which one of Lumsden and Cortes was an A level prospect? Granted MacDougal may not have been worth even that (he was pretty damn good for the Sox last year though) but its not like they got two of our top prospects. Lumsden was one of the best arms in the Sox system at the time and was having a very strong season. He dominated last year for the Royals as well but has since hit a funk. Make no mistake, he may not have been an A top notch prospect, but he was a guy with top 100 talent and upside and Cortes was a very very projectable arm (but like all A ball players, they really have minimal trade value because there are so many things that can get in there way).
  24. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) If Dye keeps this up for the rest of the season, we won't be getting any compensation. If we were to offer him arb. in free agency, I doubt any team would give up the draft pick for him. We really need him to just start raking for about a week or so. Maybe package him with Buehrle down to LA and get Kemp + some. Trust me...the Sox would get the draft picks. Average out the two seasons and you still have a guy that is going to get type A compensation and a team will still give him at least 7 mill or so a year over a few years (at least that much and possibly more if he shows much of anything down the stretch).
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Brian Roberts would be perfect for the White Sox. He was almost traded for Adam LaRoche and Marcus Giles last winter. Funny how Kenny and Theo both fell out of favor pretty quickly with a lot of people after winning long awaited titles. Has this season turned the tide back into Theo's favor in Boston? You mean the Theo Epstein that gave out horrid contracts to both JD Drew and Julio Lugo (or at least thats how it looks right now). QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) I'd absolutely love to get Wily Mo, but not for Mark. Not a chance. MacDougall or Thornton plus BA for Willy Mo and we'd have ourselves a deal. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) That and the fact that he bounced back and is playing great means Baltimore will not move him, especially for the crap KW will have available to move. If he kept most of the rotation he still would have plenty of prospects he could move to get Roberts (maybe not any prospect that was of LaRoche's caliber but he could still offer something) and a guy like Roberts would significantly upgrade the Sox offense and make the club just a far more efficient ball club (because I think we need speed).
