  1. I think its about 90% that he signs.
  2. Congrats to the greatest to ever don a White Sox uniform as well as arguably one of the greatest pure offensive players over a 5-7 year span.
  3. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) Now there's talk that Charlotte will be the team added to get the KG, Amare deal done. Charlotte would add the #8 pick and probably Emeka Okafor to Minnesota, who would part with KG to the Suns, and Charlotte would end up with Amare. Would seem to make sense for everyone. I'd love to get involved and find a way to get Okafor in a Bulls uniform.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Hold on a second here. I am not stating that Uribe and Richar are equals, far from it. I am simply stating that throwing to the wrong base and making mental errors sounds like Uribe to me. I have never seen this kid play to say how he equals Uribe on defense. Calm down there hitless. Yet Uribe is still one of the premiere defensive shortstops in baseball. The same can not be said for Richar and that is one of the main reasons he was moved to 2nd base (although he does have the range and arm to play SS). QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) I don't think many people here view Lucy as a future starter either. With his athletism he very well could be. He's a very good defensive catcher who has the tools to hit for a decent amount of power (and it has slowly started to come). The other thing you have to consider is that in general catchers take more time than any other player (position player or pitcher) to develop. In fact, often times the first couple years are almost solely spent on defensive adjustments and improvements (ie blocking the plate, working on getting a quicker release to second and improving your footwork on those throws and of course calling a game and handling the pitcher) and often times it isn't really until after they get comfortable with all of that where they begin making offensive adjustments to the point that the begin to emerge as potential all around catchers (maybe even good offensive catchers). Heck a prime example of that would be Pudge. The thing is Pudge's defense was so good that it enabled him to make a major name for himself at the major league level prior to his bat coming around (but the longer he was up the better and better of a hitter he turned out to be and now he's arguably the greatest catcher to ever play the game).
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) Would Gavin Floyd versus Jon Garland comparisons be fair here? It took Jon a while to really get "it". One of the knocks against Jon was his mental make up and his propensity for the big inning early on. Stuff was never a question with Garland, just whether or not he had the stones to be a big time pitcher. Thoughts? I think this is a poor comparison for one reason. Garland was making those adjusments at the major league level and he had a varying degree of success while doing it. He also was doing it at a much younger age. I think the better comparison is Roy Halladay, who initially struggled in the majors, went all the way back down to A ball, and than worked his way back up and eventually won a cy young IIRC.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) Has Getz even played in the last month or so? He's been out with a knee injury.
  7. Over on RealGm there is some talk of a Gordon to the Hawks for the #3 pick. The Bulls would than select Horford at 3 and take a SG at 9 (maybe Corey Brewer??).
  8. Ya, the guy has some serious tools.
  9. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 09:25 AM) Oh you crazy PC lovers...the iPhone is going to be great...but not yet. They won't have 3G technology yet. And don't forget that the RAZR was $499 when it came out too. Now, they are giving them away. That's what I have and I like it except for one thing, if your ear isn't positioned right on the phone, it's hard to hear the caller. It isn't reception, it's the phone. Otherwise, it's been great. The Iphone is going to be an epic flop at least early on. The biggest flaw is that most people who have these pocket pc's use the phones for business purposes. I know that at my company (and its a major company) the Iphone is worthless because it isn't currently compatible with what we use to get our email/contacts/calendar all synced up to what is on our company laptops, etc. So basically put that means most likely, Apple put the largest customer for smart phones (Corporate Companies who basically buy the phone for the employee) and pushed them away. Of course this is all based on my assumption that my company uses similar technology to the rest of big business. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 09:53 AM) Hmm.. I don't know. Definitely test it first. They should give you a week to do so. Hi-Res. At least thats how it comes up on my treo.
  10. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) ...the hell with throw-ins. If the Cubs would be willing to part with Eric Patterson for Toby Hall in a one-for-one swap, you fax in the paperwork without a second's notice. In my opinion, the Cubs simply have to be loooking for a platoon partner for Bowen because Blanco's playing status is in doubt and Koyie Hill simply shouldn't be wearing a Major League uniform. Hall simply came to mind as a player that might interest the Cubs--there are others (including some in the bullpen). I don't think the Cubs would make that deal. I would make it in a heartbeat though.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Enough with the baiting in this thread, if you're just looking for trouble--don't post in the thread. Now that you've been warned, anything else will result in suspensions. Remember, the personal attack policy is a two way street. Just because a poster thinks they were baited it doens't mean you go back with a personal attack to such poster and vice-versa. Warnings Issued...get back to the discussion at hand and leave the personal non-sense at the door.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:55 AM) Nah, a tiny bit of information combined with speculation combined with common sense. After last year, I think it's very telling when you see our top scout at a particular game. I know I'd love Ethier and Billingsley but I also must admit I'm really starting to dig my Betemeit and Kemp for Dye move. Not that it means anything, but I was out with my buddies last night, a couple of which are huge Dodger fans and they were mentioning how they've been reading the Sox as potential trade options and they all agreed that they would probably do that deal (especially when compared to what they would have to give up to get a guy like Tex). Oh and as usual Kalapse, you were right, I dug around to see if Tex signed some special clause and couldn't find anything so Tex is arbitration eligible next year so the Dodgers would hold his rights.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) Offman is still predicting that a deal is done by tomorrow morning, while Levine is reporting about the agent/Hahn meeting today, but nothing is imminent. It's comical to hear Offman state though that the only thing they were saying yesterday is that intermediaries have been talking for a while, and they have an idea about what type of money they're looking for. My prediction is it's from the Dodgers for Billingsley and Ethier. I'd just like to state that I'm happy with this deadline, as the last thing I wanted to see happen is to keep Buehrle for this entire year and then lose him during the offseason for only 2 draft picks. Fathom...any inside info on that offer? Or just pure speculation on your part?
  14. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) Wel Javy has been our best pitcher this year so I wouldn't get mad about having him. He's part of a solution, not part of the problem especially at his respectable contract Ummm...Garland has been the best pitcher. Buehrle is right there with him.
  15. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) wow. hawk just learned what WHIP is. What's next ... OBP or OPS? Are you serious...thats hillarious.
  16. Please post your questions for first baseman Chris Carter. Carter has been destroying the minor leagues and moving up the organizational prospect chart. Carter ranks with Josh Fields and Tom Collaro in terms of pure power potential. Note: The Floyd interview will hopefully be up in the coming week.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) So apparently Buehrle told Farmer that he's looking for $14M a year. Seems odd that he'd just mention a fact like that during the broadcast as if it's nothing. 12.5 that is reported and 14 mill is not a major difference over 4 years.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Coming into 2007 Teixeira only had 4 years of service time so he should be arbitration eligible after this season meaning his first free agent year will be after '08. He did sign a 2 year contract before the '06 season but that only covered his first 2 years of arbitration. So unless Scott Boras has found a way around the 3 year arbitration rule, Teixeira would be under LA's control for another season after this one. Interesting....I could absolutely swear that he signed a major league contract and somehow he becomes a free agent when that deal is up. I know I've read all over the place that the Orioles are going to do everything they can to sign him this off-season.
  19. Straight from the horses mouth. I'm going back to my regularly scheduled programming.
  20. I read something on the MLB dodgers boards, from the DallasMorningNews, the the Rangers are apparently asking for Billingsley, Loney, and Clayton Kershaw for Tex (possibly Otska or Gagne included in the package). That my friends would be a much steeper price than a deal involving any one of those guys for Dye. I know Tex is younger and having a better season but he too is a FA at the end of the year and Bmore is reportedly willing to offer the moon for him.
  21. Remember when Clemens was going to go down for Steroids reportedly and the rumor caught like wild fire...basically came from Forums such as this one and media outlets everywhere ran with it. The main question I have is whether anyone else reporting things has new sources or whether they are essentially basing things off the SunTimes and Score.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Who would want Masset? He's never been successful. Except in Mexico, where he left his fastball. Allegedly. BHAM told me Floyd's consistently at 92-94. And he can rare back and top out into the 95-96 MPH range (so he's definitely got more velocity). As far as Masset goes, I know all 30 teams would be knocking on the Sox door if we were to move him. He has good life on an above average fastball to go with a nasty curveball. He has some serious command issues but he's definitely a guy with a lot of potential.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) It's so tough to project any sort of outfield at this point since your leadoff man has to come from somewhere and if you have a Kemp/Sweeney/powerguy outfield your leadoff hitter is going to have to come from the middle infield which could be tough. Ya, I'm still holding out hope of a major move that brings in a leadoff hitter at either 2nd or SS.
  24. I want Matt Kemp and bad. He's extremely talented and projects differently than any of our other outfield prospects. He should hit for power, has a good eye, decent speed and good all around tools. He'd be an outstanding fit to go with a young guy like Sweeney and hopefully a power guy to play the other outfield position next year.
