QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) Well the title and subtitle are kind of confusing here. What's going on? Score announced a potential deal (in principle) at 4 year 50 million (around 50 which is obviously very low). ESPN is saying that there have been no new contract talks (basically saying the Score is wrong).

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) I thought the Indians had agreed to take ove the Tucson agreement. I know there was some talk, but I thought the Indians were talking about getting a facility in the Goodyear area. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) And Offman continues to report this as fact. "remember Buehrle said he'd like to spend the rest of his career with the White Sox . . . well he'll be spending at least the next 4 and a half years on the South Side." He has to have some sort of source. He may be off in the terms, but where there is smoke there is usually fire (especially with something this serious). I have to think there are some talks but the Score is potentially jumping the gun as to how close it is (and is probably off a bit on the dollar figure). QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) So, where it stands now is no one believes 670 but people are believing the AM 1000 report? I tend to buy into the idea that there are talks and that the terms being discussed are potentially 4 years. However, I am not sure if the deal is as close to done as the Score indicates nor do I think they are accurate about the dollar portion (however, I could see it being in the upper 50 million's with potential clauses that push it into the 60 mill range). I also buy into Cowley and he indicates there was talks as well.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) So where do you think Ken Rosenthal was getting his information? I wonder if the same source that said the 99 pct quote over the weekend is the same one starting this today. What was the 99% quote?

4 yrs at 15 per season makes a lot more sense.

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:25 AM) Alright my extreme joy as turned to total concern here...WTF. I know this may be dumb question but any chance KW does a sign and trade to get more for Buehrle? I guarantee you that if Buehrle signs he won't be getting traded.

I am waiting for someone in the Sox camp or multiple media outlets to start reporting this. Levine...get off your ass and back it up. I'd be much more comfortable if that was the case.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:11 AM) I was thinking they'd go to 4 years, but raise the price (like how Dodgers did it with Furcal). If 4/50 is true, that's an amazing deal. And FWIW, the information I was talking about was that 3 different minor league scouts reported this morning that they asked their teams specifically about whether or not they should continue to scout players for the possibility of Buehrle being traded, and they were told that they absolutely should, and that the ST article was bogus. Well I don't know how the Gm's would have that much information on the situation (considering how quickly it was going) but obviously the scouts would continue to scout because Buehrle would either sign or eventually make his way back on the market. Just my two cents though.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:08 AM) So we are going to get Mark Buehrle for that price? I can't believe it. Kenny Williams has just totally called Buehrle's bluff, big time. I wouldn't say bluff....I think this would be a sign of just how much Mark wants to be in Chicago. I still say there are going to be some concessions made by the White Sox.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:07 AM) If it's 4 years, $50M then there have to be some serious incentives and a huge buyout in there somewhere. $12.5M is nothing for a pitcher of Buehrle's caliber. THE DEAL IS DONE!! IT'S DONE IN PRINCIPLE! HANLEY SAYS IT"S DONE. Interesting they didn't even have to go 5. I'm guessing there are going to be some unique clauses involved in it that could make it worth quite a bit.

Ya, I'd imagine you'd have something like a 15 or 16mill option for the 5th year with a pretty large buyout that increases his guaranteed money to at least 13.5 million per year. Either way I'm holding my breath waiting to see a press release, press conference or the words come out of Buehrle or Kenny's mouth that Mark has signed.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:02 AM) 4 years $50 million Is this your proposal or what the score said? My guess is if it is just a 4 year deal that there would likely be some sort of 5th year option worth a good size buyout or substantial money. Maybe that is why Buehrle was laughing. Are the Sox waiting to announce it? Holy s***...4 years 50 million would be an absolute bargain. Please be true please be true please be true.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:44 AM) We would have to demand a king's ransom in return for PK, who is signed through 2010. Would it be totally outrageous to demand Hughes from the Yankees? Hughes, Tabata, Sanchez, Chamberlain, Kennedy, Betances, Cabrera, Cano...all names that would likely arise. I wouldn't be opposed to a Konerko deal, but I would demand a package starting at Hughes and Cano or Cabrera (and yes I said starting at that). Look what the Orioles repeatedly demanded for Tejada and use that as your starting point essentially. I still think there is a better chance Thome gets moved and I don't even think there is more than a 5% chance that that happens. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 07:23 AM) I would not be against trading Konerko for prospects at all. He gets paid a lot of money for a lot of years and is likely in decline. He has a .780 OPS this year, isn't that great in the field and plays first base. A competent organization should be able to fill 1B with better production than that for a lot cheaper. Trading PK now would probably be selling low -- he could easliy still have another couple of .850 to .900 OPS years. But to get his salary off the books, I think it might be worth it. But as someone pointed out, Paul advises Williams about what moves to make. So unless he suggested trading himself I doubt anything comes of this. You lost me when you said Paulie isn't that great in the field. He has some of the softest hands of any first baseman in the league. He lacks a bit in the range department but I could count on about one hand guys that I'd rather have at first. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:02 AM) Id trade Konerko for Hughes, Cano and Cabrera. Yep, I'd make that move.

Phil Rogers Details Kenny's Failures
Chisoxfn replied to SadChiSoxFanOptimist's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think with Anderson, you can't say he didn't play. Yes, I would have liked to see him play more because I thought at the time his defense was more valuable than Mackowiak's offense (talking about last season) but in on way did I think Ozzie ruined Brian's development (I do think he hurt the Sox defense and made the Sox a worse team with Mack in center). When it comes down to it, Ozzie protects all his players. And for Sweeney, I thought he did a pretty darn good job and Sweeney will be up (Ryan played quite a bit and than I'm sure Ozzie/Walker had a talk with him on stuff to work on and told him he'll be back up again). You could argue more playing time would have helped Anderson a bit, but bottom line, he still got to play quite a bit his rookie season. -

Yes...yes...yes. I hope they can get someone to come into Tuscon's park and than I can start seeing the Sox play in the Phoenix area and never have to make that drive to Tuscon again. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 07:44 AM) FWIW, I just heard some information that makes me believe this article is a lot more speculative than it is fact. Let's just say that teams still don't think there's a chance that Buehrle signs an extension before testing free agency. I think it is pretty close to 50/50 and I've remained pretty optimistic on this front. The Sox are the one and only team he'd extend with (the other possibility would be the Cards if he was moved there and that is based on pure speculation on my part). Either way I think this gives the Sox more bargaining power as well (as with them at least close to an extension another team would have to step up and make an even better offer, otherwise Kenny can counter and go no we are going to get something done). Plus if it is true and the Sox weren't getting front line value for him, than this is even better news because we get to keep our front line pitcher who is still in his prime and should be for the next few years (crossing fingers).

Oh my goodness...this would be amazing news. Make it happen....make it happen....please make it happen. Than move Contreras, Dye, Thome and Iguchi (see what else you can move as well when it comes to aging veterans as well and get ready to make a run next year with a rotation headed by Buehrle/Garland/Vazquez.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) ECW starts with Vince McMahon basically saying that after they found out what really happened with this whole situation WWE will no longer mention Benoits name etc. on their programming. Good...Benoit ranks right up there with the scum of the earth. f*** the jag off and as far as I'm concerned if I viewed avatars (I have them off) I wouldn't not allow any RIP avatars on this site because all they are doing is immortalizing a guy that murdered his family (it is one thing to say sorry to his friends and family but it is another to say sorry to Benoit...f*** that selfish asshole). Sorry, maybe a bit harsh but I can't believe the amount of people defending this f***. (I've kept quiet on this issue as to not sound out until the facts are out but it pretty much appears the facts are out now).

QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) If LAD were to offer Billingsley for Dye straight up in a couple of weeks if Billingsley keeps sucking would you do it, knowing that he'd been bad? I doubt that they'd even make that offer but it is a hypothetical question. As long as he was healthy...absolutely. -
I want Garland to win...the man has pitched f***ing brilliantly all season and gotten completely s*** on by the offense and bullpen.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) I never thought I'd think this, but John Mayer's 'Gravity' is an amazing song, the rest of that record doesn't impress me. I have all of his albums on my ipod. The guy is an amazing guitarist and I like the blues basis of his most recent album.
