QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) The Sox are probably going into re-build mode with or without Jenks on the team. A few have already brought it up, but what do you need a All-Star closer for if you have nothing to close out? Jenks obviously won't have any sort of Buehrle type value, but his value is very high to a playoff team in need to a stopper. It's too bad Detroit and Cleveland are both in the division. There are also health concerns. Every Spring it seems Bobby shows up bigger and bigger to camp, only to cut weight in March and early April. The Sox have lucked out of late, but the weight, the hip, and the pin in his elbow all are serious concerns. With all that said, you only trade Jenks if you get a package that you can't say no to, but with the way this team is headed, Jenks shouldn't be untouchable. Tony...Jenks is going to have twice the value Buehrle has. He's signed to an insanely affordable contract and will be under the team who acquires him's control for a couple more years. Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta could all use significant upgrades at the closer position (albeit the Sox probably would think twice about dealing with a divisional foe). Heck, despite Saito kicking ass for the Dodgers I could very well see them consider making a significant upgrade at the back of there pen. s***, just look at the ridiculous value a guy like Ugueth Urbina got a couple years back (and Jenks is an upper echelon closer while Urbina was a FA to be and not an upper echelon closer at that time). The only people I think could potentially have more value than Jenks are Paul Konerko (maybe Jon Garland/Javier Vazquez but I consider those two to be big question-marks) and all of those individuals have more value than Buehrle on the trade front (we could argue Buehrle is the best player but the others are all signed to affordable deals and would not construe as rentals).

"The fans are just a bunch of idiots" -Boone Logan

Not the brightest comment to say but hell for the most part its accurate. Either way, as long as he keeps getting outs I could care less if he called every poster on Soxtalk idiots -
Wow...so the past 2 weeks I've been swimming 3-4 days a week and holy s*** is swimming tiring. I can run 3-5 miles a couple days a week without problem or play a full soccer game (1 and a half hour game with a halftime break) perfectly fine but I am dead after swimming about 10-12 laps (each lap being down and back). On the bright side I've increased from the initial 4-5 laps that I could do. I should note that I am a horrific swimmer and this is the first time I've swam in god knows how long. And did I mention my new found respect for swimmers.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Umm since as long as I've been watching baseball. I don't remember the era where you could trade a guy on the DL. Ya, I know some teams will do it as a PTBNL and than once the player comes off the DL they are officially swapped but you can not actually trade a guy that is on the DL.

Because how much value is a closer to a rebuilding team? I consider the closer one of the last pieces you really need (and by closer I mean a true shutdown closer, ala Jenks/Rivera/Hoffman/Krod) and the type of piece that you usually can find in relatively short notice. I mean to a rebuilding team wouldn't it be better to get a Salm (best catching prospect in baseball) and Escboar (very very good SS prospect whose major league ready) at the very least for Jenks (plus I think you can get Devine or someone else) from a team like the Braves. Ie you get a catcher and SS for the next 5-10 years for a closer (someone who is not going to be the key piece to your rebuilding at least not early on).

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) Link? There's a Buster Olney quote from last year re Andruw Jones, which said his 10-5 rights would kick in on Aug 15 or 16 -- exactly 10 years after his debut. And I've heard a couple times in the press that Buehrle's 10-5 rights would commence in the middle of the season. I believe the .078 would mean 78 days (and 170-some constitutes a full year, per the CBA), not 7.8% of a season. That would mean he would cross the 10-year mark in the middle of 2010. Where does it say the rights don't begin until the next season? Contrary to popular belief, 10 and 5 rights DO kick in the middle of the season and Buehrle will become eligible for those 10 and 5 rights at some point during the 2010 season.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) I guess no one expected Buehrle or Garland to make it but they are both having stud years. Ya, they have both been stronger, imo, than they were in the world series seasons. Kind of stinks too. Hell, the ptiching staff has a sub 3.5 ERA over the past 5 weeks (most of which were losses). And by pitching staff I mean rotation....I don't call the pen pitchers (aside from Bobby, Logan and Thornton).

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) looks like floyd really struggled with command today...6 BB in 5 IP isnt so good, he did K 6 and only gave up 3 hits and 2 runs....but youd like to see his walks decrease He was due for a bad game, yet he still was able to battle through and give up just 2 runs. The old Gavin Floyd would have given up 6 or 7 runs and went 2-3 innings so I think we are seeing the type of strides he is making because he can battle even when he isn't at his best.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) Jason how do you project Sweeney now? Does he still grade out high to you? or does Sweeney = Murton + Speed + Fieldind - Ugliness? I like Murton, but I still think Sweeney projects to be at worse a league average player. At his finest I think he turns into a Garret Anderson. The key is whether he will get more aggressive when it comes to turning on the inside pitches and from what I've heard he's been doing a much better job of that since being sent back down 3-4 weeks ago. I definitely don't think he's the best prospect in baseball but I still like his long term upside. (not more than Chris Young but he's still the best our system has...which doesn't necessarily say much).

I saw DieHard last night and I must say that was the best die hard movie yet. Freaking fantastic. Just exactly what I like when I go to a movie expecting to see an action movie. It was just an all around entertaining action flick that left me wide awake when the movie ended around 2 AM. I definitely recommend it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) If they didn't start Floyd today, it could be a sign that something is imminent and they'd need Floyd to come up and start. They wouldn't have messed things up. Masset would probably start in a pinch. I think the Sox have learned that they've screwed up way too many times in the past when it comes to calling up guys and having them on f***ed up rest that they will just continue as is until a move is made and at that point they'll work the rookie into a better situation (or so I hope).

Great AB by Paulie. Can we finally get Sweeney up here for good.

I'm watching the Cards game...holy s***, Percy came in and was throwing 94. Oh and Homer Bailey got lit up again.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) He has been traded. I got this from an unnamed source outside of the organization who is familiar with the situation. Are you serious?
-
Sucks...I thought Garland was going to get out of that. Gordon with a nice piece of hitting on that single. QUOTE(Chopper2Hopper @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) Do we know for a fact he was injured? I've not heard anything about that. Maybe he was traded?!?! I doubt he could have been dealt this quickly. However, contrary to popular belief Pods is a s***load better than most everyone in the current Sox lineup and at least based on the quotes he gives a damn about whats going on. I just figure no team would deal for Pods until he gets a couple weeks up and shows he's healthy. Same for Dye.

International Signing Period Starts Monday
Chisoxfn replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
Honestly the org is too cheap to do so. They don't invest enough money internationally. I remember reading that it was supposed to change and the Sox have had past success in Valenzuela and those type of places but with Ozzie here they should really have more and more success and it hasn't happened. Its freaking disgusting but I think part of it is that Kenny probably has spent more of his funds on the major league roster and skimped out on the developmental bit (just a guess and I could be completely wrong). I'm hoping that is changing though as Kenny has apparently put more of a focus on the organization and it seems like he's realized how terrible a job the club has done in that regards. We have a world series ring to show, but it really doesn't take much than some well spent finances to consistently produce a good farm system. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) Eggy and Gio belong in Charlotte ASAP! With Floyd likely to get called up when Buehrle is traded which will likely happen any day now, and Nunez being pretty much a filler, there should be no problem with getting them in the AA rotation. And then you could promote DLS and McCulloch to Birmingham. And after 1 more hopefully good start, Poreda should be promoted to Kanny to replace DLS. You do not promote DLS to Birmingham. You promote him to Winston Salem. Absolutely no reason to just throw the guy over high A ball.

I don't know the exact details of what Mark wants and I can sort of understand why you don't want to give out a full no trade when you don't want to give it to future players cause it could open up a pandora's box persay. However, Mark Buehrle is taking substantially less to stay in Chicago. Konerko and Garland didn't do so (not substantially less). This really is embarrassing. Kind of like the White flag trade was embarrassing. Note: I'm not saying the Sox may not turn better out over the long haul for not making this deal either cause they very well could.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) I'll simply disagree. Garland would bring in more than any starting pitcher. Jenks would probably bring in the most.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) Anyone catch "The Show" on INHD? About the D'Backs, but a lot of Chris Young stuff in Tucson then making it to the majors. Good stuff. Ya, its a great show.

Streaming Version of the Show Mario & Jason are back after a 10 day hiatus. In the last show they discussed the fact that the season should in fact be declared over and since the last show GM Ken Williams agreed. However, Jason & Mario couldn't ignore the new Buehrle situation and Gage felt it was necessary to rip management for the mistake they are making. The duo also discussed the logic behind moving certain players as well as the development of John Danks and the Chicago Bulls draft.

How many games do the Sox need to win in this streak
Chisoxfn replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just say one thing...how do you deal with the Twins and not get Mauer. -
Myself, the rest of the mods and admins have worked hard over the years to turn Soxtalk into one of the premiere White Sox and sports forums on the web (I think the general sports discussion here is bar-none amongst the best anywhere on the web). And being that I went through times when this site was small, anyone that has ever sent me a PM knows that I am fully supportive of any long time member, let alone an admin whom I'm good friends with (in this case Boz), and if my site can help get a little pub than I am absolutely happy to do it. That is always the case and it always will be. If a long time poster comes to me with an Illini blog or even a freaking Clones blog (and I've always indicated that Heads could post and pub his site here at any time) than I'd definitely be like hell ya do what you can. So please, if you don't like the site just pass through the thread (ie ignore it) or bring up valid discussion by debating or disagreeing with an article that is up on the site.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 06:43 AM) Raines does have big SB numbers though. I want to go w/ Tony Phillips. I loved Tony Phillips. He was really fun to watch and really good at what he did. Otis Nixon is another guy that should be mentioned.
