Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
Its inevitable...Sox will acquire Willy Mo Pena (who cleared waivers) and he will replace the traded Scott Podsednik in left field. Sweeney will eventually come up and get ab's all over the outfield.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 8/11/07 (L)
Paulie isn't going to pinch hit. He was getting a day off and there was no way he was playing (unless someone got hurt). He rarely sits and when he does Ozzie wants to give him a 100% day off (ie tells him he ain't playing regardless).

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) Cedeno would NEVER make it through waivers but he could be dealt as a PTBNL. I thought that would be a possibility, but for whatever reason I figure if Kenny gets a SS (and Cedeno would probably be that) he would want to see if he had a keeper or not (Cedeno is just killing the ball down in the minors, the question is whether he'll be able to hit at the major league level). Either way I'd be down with that deal because worse case Cedeno replaces Cintron as a versatile backup.

Jose somehow managed to not give up any runs. He wasn't impressive (lots of baserunners) but I'm just hoping someone takes a chance on him.

Pods on base twice so far and he has stolen 2 bases....way to go kid. I'd love to get Cedeno for him, but I don't get how he'd pass through waivers (But maybe he would).

Cubs put in claim for Shannon Stewart
I can only hope they don't get Stewart cause that makes a Pods deal more likely.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) I could handle his TBS infatuation, as I like them too, and his favorite band is actually the Used, which I don't mind, but Brand New was by far his favorite. Brand new is awesome....I can't wait till next year...where I can take part of this thread when I go back for my MBA...WHOOOOO

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) Moving stuff into the apartment tomorrow, coming back tomorrow nite, working til next tuesday, then moving stuff in tues-thurs, school starts on Aug 20. I'm switching majors at semester. I hate journalism, going into teaching/coaching. yup. Its cause no other boss is as cool to work for as me in the journalism industry isn't it.

Shower Soap
I use Dove or the Kirkland brand of bar soap, depending on what is cheaper when I go. I tried liquid for a while but I swear I wasted it cause it never lasted long at all. Of course I also use the kirkland shampoo and seperate conditioner and low and behold I either drink Kirkland brand vodka (its actually very good) or Kettle one. I love Costco, haha.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
I was perusing through the Cubs farm system and Donald Veal is a guy I would love. I don't know if the Cubs have soured on him enough (he's got a bad era, but very good periphs) and the Sox really loved this guy (drafted him before, but he opted to go to college...tremendously talented lefty). Problem is its Pods we are giving up. However, I still say Pods is a great fit for the Cubs and its not like Veal is a top 5 or 10 prospect (at least not right now....he has the ability to do so though). I'd clearly take a Ronny Cedeno or Murton (neither will get through waivers...remember they have to clear all the NL teams first and there is no way there isn't a team in the NL to go after one of those guys). Or do you take a chance on a guy like Ryan Harvey (been horrid in the minors, but was talented enough to be the 6th overall draft pick 3 or 4 years ago...unfortunately he pretty much missed his first two seasons so he still hasn't gotten past A ball.

They just said Connor Jackson, who was close to being traded to the White Sox, went 3-3 today with a HR (or something along those lines).

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) Plus they gave him a full no trade clause so even if they wanted to they can't dump that contract on someone without his permission. I want him to continue to stink and than sign on with the Bears next season

Jose Contreras
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Coop said yesterday Jose's going to start the opener in Seattle. It sounds like today they changed things based upon Buehrle's short start and that Contreras will remain in the pen (he was initially slated to go on Sunday). I think Jose next start is about 8 days away (as they want to give him a little more rest) .

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
ESPN Baseball Tonight had someone on who said that the Cubs actually got Pods. I'm pretty sure the guy was just jumping the gun and didn't understand the waiver claim, but I figure its worth mentioning just in case. It really is too bad Matt Murton would make it through waivers to the Sox cause I would love to pencil him in left field. As I type this another guy on Baseball Tonight claims Connor Jackson was very close to being traded to the White Sox prior to the deadline.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 06:18 PM) He only got a $2.5M signing bonus, he's guaranteed $7.2M over the next 4 years, plus he takes up a spot on the 40 man roster while making twice the major league minimum pitching at AA. God those terms made a terrible signing that much worse. That is the type of contract that is flat out brutal.

Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) Oh for God's sake no...Especially considering he has a contract that pays him a ton of money if he stays with baseball that presumably the Sox would wind up having to pay. Unless he had a weird contract, his entire deal was a bonus and the Cubs would be the team on the hook for it. That is at least typically how it works with draft picks. I know he had a convuluted deal that could pay him as much as 11mill or something (bonus).

A hypthetical if...
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) I am open to giving up Gio, and I still hold the thought the Sox like Gio so much because of the sexy numbers he puts up. What about a Jose&Gio for Tejada? Where do I sign? I was talking about a Garland and Gio for Tejada deal that i would throw up at.

Free Agent List
QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 11:05 AM) Am I the only one who thinks Milton Bradley would look nice in LF and come cheap? Yes. I'd like Bradley, but the major if is that you can't really rely on him due to injuries (and the Sox already got burned so badly this year by injuries)>

A hypthetical if...
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Yeah, I don't give them that for a guy whose power was sapped by steroids and will continue to decrease with his wrist injury. And it'd probably be more than Garland/Gio, knowing Angelos. Imo, that would be a no brainer for the O's and an assinine move by the Sox. Just my 2 cents but I over-value pitching, plus I'd prefer numerous young players over an aging guy like Tejada (if we were going to give up Garland). ANd I sure as hell wouldn't include Gio in the package as well.
