QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) I keep him in Charlotte for 1 more year, hopefully giving him time to grow up and maybe develop more of a power stroke. If someone were to go down with a serious injury in the OF at midseason, I would consider him my first backup option. I would pencil him into my outfield starting in 2008. The only scenario where I would start Sweeney off in the big leagues next year, barring an injury, would be if JD were traded for a big package which made the whole team better for many years (which I still wouldn't rule out). And in 08 we would be screwed..we'd have on Dye and no Pods adn who knows what happens with Anderson (even if he did pan out he'd still just have one good season) and we'd be throwing in another green rookie. That has the makings of an absolute disaster. But if we give him some 300 Ab's at the major league level this year we'd have at least an idea of how he's going to handle himself and he'll be much more prepared if we deem him ready/worthy of being a starter in 08. I'm not a fan of just handing rookies starting jobs, I prefer finding creative ways to get them ab's and give them a slower maturation process that I think is better for long term success.

I don't even want to know what would have happened post 9/11 if Gore was at the helm. You can be upset about the Iraq fiasco but Bush responded admirably and did as good of a job as I think you could have following 9/11 and the tough economy he was handed. And thats something a lot of people have forgotten.

I remember watching all of those great shows as I grew up. RIP.

I think Bernie would be a tremendous addition. He can still hit pretty well in around 300 AB's (which would give him AB's in LF, DH, and maybe once in a blue moon out in CF or RF). He'd also be a tremendous role model for a guy like Brian Anderson and would be an overall fantastic addition to the club. That said there is no way he'd take our job, but if he were to go elsewhere I'd think we'd be one of the handful of teams he'd consider going to (considering he isn't about to go play for a team with no chance at winning and fact of the matter is the Sox are still one of the more talented teams in all of baseball).

QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) how was this not mentioned. in rogers column in the trib: "Guillen has said he doesn't foresee using Rob Mackowiak in center field anymore. Barring another move, that means the Sox probably will carry two of the four currently in the center-field picture: incumbent Brian Anderson and challengers Ryan Sweeney, Jerry Owens and Luis Terrero." woot. i am a happy man. I don't want Jerry Owens or Terrero to be the answers and I don't think a platoon of Sweeney/Anderson would be that bad, especially if Sweeney ocassionally got some AB's in LF as well. It would be a nice way for two young players to help each other develop.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) One good year = $38 million? Damn, I should have learned how to pitch better. It was more than just one good year, but I'm one of Bondy's bigger backers. I think this was a great move by the Tigers and Bondy would have got more than that 12 million on this years market and I still think its a relatively fair dollar value for the guy. He would have been the 2nd best FA on the market (behind Zito and ahead of Schmidt, imo).

Freaking awesome. Now all that the Sox have to do is find someone to replace them. I assume the Sox would still have at least two more seasons at TEP (this year and the next year).

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) Can Owens even play CF? I know almost nothing about him, except that he still needs time in the minors. You hear a lot of people say he can but the sad truth of the matter is that he's a horrid ass CFer who rarely, if ever played it in the minors and for a reason.

Wish Radke nothing but the best. He was one of the classiest guys in this game and he'll be missed.

I've had Jimmy John's once and was pretty impressed.

Good seeing you stop by Josh. Hopefully things get a bit better for ya.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) one more day or two on the talkbhawks - I have it almost done... Kap Just in time too...cause the Hawks have been kicking ass. Khaby played great tonight while Ruutu had his 4th goal in 5 games (I think its 4 in 5 games at least).

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) I was at the game in prime seats, and here's what I saw: #1. Ricky Manning Jr. had a bad game, and is a nickel back (I wouldn't play Vasher again until the playoffs, he HAS to be healthy) but Danieal Manning was FAR worse. He took 2 of the worst angles I've ever seen on the Galloway and Hillard TD's, and both of those plays are ended at about the 25 yard line if he hadn't been so dumb. #2. Rex looked really good against an adequate defense, which is a good sign. #3. Thomas Jones should not start, period. Cedric Benson is so much better it's not even funny, and he blocks just as well. #4. The injuries are hurting the team moreso in terms of depth than pass rush. The pass rush wasn't as good, forcing some blitzes that made the depleted secondary vulnerable, but the depth was killer because the d line was dead tired in the 4th and that was part of the collapse. The injuries SHOULD kill this team on defense (along with Rex still being wildly inconsistent), but since it's the pathetic NFC and the Bears have a bye and homefield, they have a great shot anyways. We'll see, but for that game to be that crazy against Tampa Bay, maybe the worst team in football, is terrifying. Oh, and the "catch" by Davis to set up the game winning FG clearly hit the ground. So we won on an incomplete pass, yay. Huh...that catch didn't hit the ground? But maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. We did potentially make a holding penalty on the play but it looked like a clean catch to me.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) No doubt. I'd love to have Rios, but we can't handle losing another SP. We have no one who is dependable to step in and make 25 starts. Would you do Garland for Rios straight up? I wouldn't. It might be a fair talent-for-talent deal, but I don't think the Sox can afford to give up another SP. It would fill one big hole and open another. Good lord know. I wouldn't even think about it. If they want to give us some young pitching than fine, but not straight up. I think they have a couple decent young arms but I doubt they'd give up both. And I should add if we trade anyone it should be Buehrle (unless he's indicated he's open to signing an extension). I could also accept Vazquez. Even though I'm one of the bigger Javy fans on this board (after being his biggest critic and someone that was against the trade) I think Javy made good adjustments and is going to have some real nice years (hopefully with the Sox). Plus I like the fact we have him for this year and next year (same with Jon) but if we could keep Buehrle than I have no problem moving Javy. The main thing is, I want 3 of our 4 guys (Javy/Jose/Mark/Garland) back here the following year. Now all of those guys (except for Mark, because if he pitched the next year it would mean he signed a fat deal) would be free agents that final year, but the fact is they will still be here and we can move them then (plus we'll have a far better idea of what Bmac/Floyd/Gio/Haeger/Broadway are capable of and may decide we can move another one of those guys for some other needs or more prospects or we could decide we can't afford it and stick with it and try and spend the money to keep another vet or two if we need it). Either way if we move Garland now it takes away our options a year from now and I don't want us to be in a position where we have to have almost all our young pitchers develop and develop fast to compete a year from now (and yes...despite some people's thoughts we are still clearly one of the 4 or 5 best teams in baseball and capable of being a champion). Instead if we move Buehrle and hold onto the other 3 we know if we need to (even if they walk) we can get another year out of 3 above average starters that can give us innings and protect/teach our youngsters.

Romero was absolutely god awful for the Angels last year and Donnelly is nothing more than a serviceable 6th inning guy. Both were once pretty good, but Donnelly isn't a solution, although he does provide good depth and I'd like him as my last guy in the pen (I don't know if thats what he'll be though). As far as Romero is concerned, he does have good stuff but wow was he brutal for the Angels. Scioscia and the entire staff absolutely hated him and started going away from him because he had no idea how to pitch with anyone on. It was a shame since he has the ability to be a pretty damn nasty lefty reliever (and has been in the past as well).

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) He honestly deserves to be the feature back over Jones, but I can see why they are doing what they're doing. They want to keep Barber fresh for the 2nd half so he can just run over defenders. Pound for pound, I don't know if there's a harder runner than he is, he never gives up on any run. Defensively the lack of a pass rush besides Ware is killing us, but also the lack of a quality coverage FS (hence teams are attacking Roy Williams over the deep middle) and Anthony Henry had a real bad day. Jason Hatcher came into the lineup over Marcus Spears (bust) though, and gave us something on the pass rush. And not a great day for the Bears even though you pulled out the win. Not a great day....for 3 quarters we had them stomped defensively and Grossman looked tremendous. Not to mention we left the game without suffering any serious injuries. I know it was a s***ty blown game, but overall we had two awful tackles that led to big plays and than a few passes where Rattay just made really damn good throws. Plus I think a lot of those points were scored because we pretty much were in the prevent. That said I'm very concerned about our lack of pass rush.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) Just for kicks, lets just say we did Trade Garland and Broadway for Rios. What happens to the rotation. I would love getting a younger player like Rios, and while I want to be in the playoffs in 2010, I also want to be in the playoffs now, and having Floyd/Haeger/Sisco in the rotation isn't going to work, not for me at least. No it wouldn't. In addition that would be an absolute robbery by the Blue Jays.

Apocalypto was very very good.

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) How is his defense? Very good, plus he hits LHP and has been an everyday player many a time for that minor league team known as the DRays. This is a fantastic deal and we got him for a lot cheaper than I thought (assuming that the 3 mill plus figure is over the course of 2 years, meaning he gets just over 1.5 million a year which is nice.

It seems to me that it would be a lot wiser to move Sweeney whose always hurt than even thinking about getting rid of Teahen. I think they will finally suck it up and move Sweeney to the Angels for a far less package than they would have got a year or two ago. Basically put I think the Royals should be happy if they can just get another team to take on Sweeney's contract.

ISU goes like 4-5 minutes without a field goal to pretty much give it to Bradley after being completely in it the whole way. -
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) another move will be made today but it didnt say whether was through trade or free agency but it will be a small to public but a plus internally. You can find this on confrence call on whitesox.com site. Interesting. I wonder if we open up another spot on the 40 or if we are going to announce that we've signed someone to an extension or what. Maybe we are going to be acquiring a righty stick that can play CF (I know we have Terrero but I want options).
