    LCD HDTV's

    QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) I also like that I can return essentially any TV I would potentially buy at Costco at anytime. My three finalists are the Aquos (priced at 899.99 at Costco), the Vizio (699.99 at Costco) and the Panasonic which is rated higher than both for 923 (retails at 1200.00 but I get a discount through Panasonic Direct as well as free shipping). I still may wait it out based on the article I read the other day about a 30% price drop on most models in 2007. Ya, I bought my Xbox from Costco so I can return it when the PS3's come out if I want to. Or if there is a price drop or anything good like that. Definately a perk. I do recommend only buying the HD tv if you plan on getting the HD box top from Direct TV because I swear once you see HD programming you'll hate watching non HD stuff. But just before you buy, froogle.com the TV and see what other prices are just in case. On a random sidenote you don't need to have any warranty for your Costco TV since I think you have up to 2 years to return it (IIRC).

    LCD HDTV's

    QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) I am also shopping for a 40 in LCD for my bedroom. If you are going HD, make sure you go 1080 P. The 720's are already behind in the HD market. Also brands, I would go with Samsung, Hitachi, Phillips as some of my fav's. Im a HUGE fan of Hitachi and Samsung, but I think im going with the Samsung LCD. I've read from a lot of places that the 1080P on screens 40 and smaller that the difference between 1080P and 1080I is almost non existent and that you might as well save the money and go with the 1080I set. Personally I was looking between Plasma, LCD, & DLP and fell in love with DLP. I realize its not as trendy as the Plasma and LCD but I was able to purchase a 50 inch 1080P TV with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio (something I don't think many, if any LCD's are capable of doing and something that is standard on almost all Plasma TV's) for 1500 (and i had to pay zero tax and zero shipping fees). I have a Samsung and the thing is amazing, with two HDMI inputs as well as a couple component inputs (the thing has all the extra connections you could want) and is rated as being one of the best TV's out available at a fraction of the cost of most of them. One thing you should be careful with is to make sure that if it is 1080P that both HDMI are 1080 and I'd recommend getting a TV that has two HDMI inputs because you get a better picture quality via HDMI. But with one of BluRay/HDDVD winning out and the PS3/Xbox360 (both of which have 1080P capabilities) I highly recommend having it (even though TV won't be broadcasted in 1080P). And Boz from what I read the Vizio's were a pretty damn good buy. The Aquos is just a bit better of a set (Sharp makes a beautiful LCD) but its also quite a bit more. Oh and definately try and take advantage of one of the many online retailers that sell this bad boys tax free and without any shipping costs.
  3. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) I think the NHL doesn't get any coverage because ESPN refuses to give them coverage because as has been mentioned, the NHL isn't on ESPN. And thats the NHL's damn fault. ESPN got stuck in a bind because of there strike and the NHL tried to make a stand to ESPN and lost.
  4. Happy B-Day Mike. Your just another year closer to joining the old folks club here at Soxtalk Hope you and your fam enjoy the day
  5. Gagne is awesome when healthy and a fun player to watch. I hope he'll pan out and stay healthy. Still a ton of money for an injury prone guy and the Lofton move is a decent one. The Dodgers did a nice job giving Kenny consistent rest and he rewarded them by having a pretty darn good season.
  6. Hopefully he can fight through it.
  7. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Yea, the ACC basketball coverage is rather ridiculous. Although it's mainly only Duke and North Carolina, and similar to the Red Sox and Yankees, it's because they are two of the most popular teams in the country and draw incredible ratings. Also, Tony. Could it be because the Red Sox and Yankees draw ratings? Whether or not you like how the station is run, things that draw ratings and as a result draw more revenue will be front and center ahead of things that don't. Which is the same reason everyone is talking about the Bears (whether they are saying good things or not so good things) since we are quite possibly the most popular team in the NFL (and easily one of the 3 most popular). Hell the NFL has to be loving it...the Bears, Cowboys, and Giants are all winning and those are by far 3 of the biggest fan bases out there.
  8. Defense looked like piss but right now I couldn't be more happy for Rex Grossman. He's probably the single Bear that I've pulled the hardest far to succeed over all the years I've watched Bears football. Rex...just know that I still believe and I want to see a lot more of the Rex I saw tonight and early on in the season.
  9. I can see people suing after they cut open there hand when they thought they were cutting a piece of chicken, fish or steak.
  10. Happy Bday to the infamous Goldy or Glenn G as he goes on all his amazing graphics. Hope you have one badass bday and may one of the gifts be the Bears clinching a first round bye tonight
  11. Thats awesome Simon. That is also a pretty damn cool picture. I'm sure this is just the first of many considering your various photo skills.
  12. Brooks does an amazing job. Glad to have him running the marketing section of the team and I look forward to the Sox continually to build popularity within the city (and hopefully the team will perform well cause that is the best way to market).
  13. This is one of the better signings of the FA market. He's not great but he's not awful. It looks like he'll get money similar to Marquis and he's a better player than Marquis (although Marquis has a bit more upside) and a far safer signing than that of Gil Meche. If your gonna sign someone in this market, this appears to be one of the better deals (pending the final numbers).
  14. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) i guess my posting this like 8 hours ago didnt merit response! previous post. This thread was started 4 days ago. But I did merge your post into this one.
  15. Haha, thats pretty hillarious. Anyone have an online clip of it?
  16. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) That was on of my favorite shows as a kid. A classic.
  17. Havy is freaking ridiculous. Having him back is huge, Khaby is playing good and we'll get Vrbata back soon enough. WOOO...to being at least competitive!!!!
  18. Freddy did a damn good job in a heck of a lot of games for the Sox. Thanks Frederico
  19. This is a nice deal. Now all we have to do is hope he stays healthy.
  20. WHOOO Iowa...at least I got bragging rights over Heads. Iowa wins in football and basketball and will probably suck in both but at least we got those wins. That said I'm calling the Longhorns upset right here and right now in the bowl game and I still say Iowa has a chance to back its way in the tourney because we are developing some serious talent.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) what ever happened to Jason's favorite pants that had a hole in them?
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) Just to make it clear, I would have given crap to whoever won.... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  23. During high activity times we have it off and with the recent flurry of activities and action we've deemed it appropriate to keep it off till the rumors die down.
  24. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) FWIW, we lost Jay Marshall (lefty who pitched well at WS last year) and someone named Moviel (RHP, played at Kanny last year) Paul Moviel who is the old brother of a former brother we drafted that's pretty highly thought of. Marshall was an older guy that had some damn good success down in low A ball but in the end it was just low A ball and while he may be a sleeper I'd be shocked if a team held onto him for a full season. Either way it wasn't like we lost Fabio Castro (which is what happened last year).
  25. Ya, he had some serious problems and started cleaning his life up and was finally reinstated to play late last season. Pretty good story and he's one insane hitter but as a Rule V guy I don't know if he's exactly ready to sit on the bench of a major league club.
