  1. Considering some of the players we had on the 40 man roster at the time (and the fact we actually had a couple openings) it was a very very bad move. The Sox evidently didn't think highly enough to claim him (or that no one would take him) and either way they were wrong (since someone did take him and considering numerous scouts in other organizations liked him there was obviously value in Fabio, even if it was as trade bait).
  2. If we are out of contention at the trade deadline, yes, but otherwise we'll be holding onto Dye at the rate he has. Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if the Sox talked about ripping up his current contract and giving him a new 2-3 year deal, paying him more than he'd get this year, but getting a bit of a discount in the following years. Maybe like a 3yr 30 type deal.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I didn't see the game. Can somebody give me a general recap? I know the final score and that Hart had a big 2nd half, but that's about it. IT was a very close game the whole way. Iowa and Michigan failed to do much anything on offense and Iowa missed a couple potential TD's but at the same time Michigan had a couple shots in the red zone that they failed at as well. Good defense although I missed the final few minutes. Hart was the reason you guys won, he dominated the 2nd half after getting destroyed in the 1st half. Both defenses played pretty darn well and were getting to the QB's. Breston had a tremendous return after Iowa had tied things up which may have been the difference maker in the game.
  4. Yes, Iowa with an interception. Pascal should have pickeed it, but our LB came in and picked him up. Lets get some points.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 05:23 AM) I wouldn't say it's a given Soriano hits 40HR's for whoever he plays for next season. He screams out Adrian Beltre v2.0 all over again IMHO, so I'd be wary for whoever gets him that they don't put unrealistic expectations on him. Huh. Soriano has been hitting hr's and stealing bases and being a damn good hitter since he joined the majors. Yes he strikes out more than you'd like and defensively at 2nd he wasn't that great, but out in left there is nothing wrong with him. There is absolutely no way to compare these two guys. Soriano has been doing this for a long time and went for a number of years as being one of the most underrated offensive players in the game because people slammed him for not being able to walk (big freaking whoop, the guy hits for avg, power and steals bases).
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 05:27 AM) Here are Carillo's AA numbers from 9 GS this season FWIW; 1-3, 3.02 ERA, 43 K's, 15 BB's, 5HR. He'd easily have the best stuff of any White Sox prospect if he came into our system. Also the Freddy Garcia to the Mets rumors are starting to heat up a little again. Writers for various newspapers are tossing around the Heilman and Milledge for Willis, Peavy etc. talk again. My question is, Humber and Milledge is probably too much to expect, would you do Milledge + fringe prospect for Garcia, if you couldn't get a better offer for Freddy elsewhere? Too bad there are serious reasons to have doubts about how he'll hold up. He doesn't exactly have a great frame. I'm perfectly happy with Broadway and McCulloch.
  7. Hart is playing and Tate is taking shots left and right, but we got Young, King and a few other guys back which is nice. 3-0 Michigan in the 2nd quarter.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) From everything I read he is no longer a "butcher" at the hot corner, but certainly isnt near the fielder Crede is either. But I havent actually watched him besides in the majors so im sure someone that lives by charlotte or one of you minorleague nuts know more. He'd still be subpar at the major league level. I'm not saying he has the ability to be at least average, but his first season he'd be at least a touch below league average.

    The Office

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Agreed. She's ridiculously hot. She reminds me of the wife in King of Queen's (at least a bit).
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) I do think all signs point to Crede being dealt either this winter or next. The difference of opinion on his back, I think is a huge issue. The White Sox still are going to have to be and always will be fiscally responsible. Crede is going to get a 5 year at least $50 million contract if he performs like he did in 2006. I really doubt the White Sox are willing to gamble that many years and that many dollars that his back will hold up. If Crede is dealt though, I agree with the above comments, Josh Fields is not an adequate replacement. I've posted before that I think Fields is a right handed Eric Hinske at best. A guy who will be around a while and probably have a couple of decent years, but there's something about him I've never liked. I was impressed with his ability to take pitches in September though. His walk and strikeout rate stayed about the same between 2005 and 2006, and he actually drove in more runners at Birmingham. I just don't see where you go from possible if not probable bust to great prospect after hitting .300 at Charlotte when you're 23 years old. Its also really too bad the White Sox didn't have him play LF at Charlotte this year at least when it was apparent that he wasn't going to get much time at 3B with the major league club. He should have been playing LF at least for the entire second half of the past season. Also, Fields hit 2 doubles and a homer in 20 ABs. That's not bad, but lets not get too excited. BA had 2 homers and a double in the same game in 2005 and it didn't exactly propel him to a silver slugger award in 2006. I don't know who was labelling him a bust considering 05 was his first full season and he was in AA which is an extreme pitchers park. He suffered through the death of a very good friend of his (or at least I think it was a death, but it was a pretty narly car crash one of his best friends was involved in) and eventually came out of an emotional funk to have statistically a very strong 2nd half of the season (which was pretty well documented on the site and FutureSox). Yes, it was a sample but it was also Field's first extended time in AA so mixed with the off field issue's and just the need to make adjustments to a higher level, a 2 month hiccup before playing pretty good for the remainder of his first full rookie campaign would not make him a bust. Last year his numbers were very good as well (but in an extreme hitters park). My flaw with him is that defensively he's a butcher at 3rd base and offensively I think he has some holes in the swing (albeit not near as serious as BA's holes, which I recall documenting and saying a whole lot in 05 where I said the BA I saw in 05 would have zero chance of ever suceeding in the major league level unless he made some serious adjustments to his swing/plate approach).
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) I would take prior over Vaz. In a heartbeat. I think he's actually going to be relatively healthy once he lives Chicago. He just has very little motivation to pitch with the Cubs anymore.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) I hope Fields is traded. Unless he's going to hit 40 homers, or drive in 120 runs, the Sox don't need to add a guy who will whiff 140 times a season to their line-up. I see no reason not to trade him. There is absolultely no way that I buy into the belief that Josh Fields makes Joe Crede expendable. Josh Fields is not a good 3rd base prospect. He's a good offensive prospect (not great) and the idea of him butchering the ball at 3rd while whiffing 120-150 times is not fun. I'll take Mr. Crede, his clutch bat/glove and all that jazz (even if it means he has Boras as his rep). We still are in control of him for a little longer anyway so the team has options.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Anyone just see that play that Chavez just made? In the context of the game and its settings, that's one of the greatest plays I've ever seen. That was an amazing grab, but call me a homer cause I think Uribe's running catch into the stands paired with the throw he made on the final out combined to be what I dub the greatest player ever. I also think Tommy Amorchor for the Brooklyn Dodgers with what was a world series saving catch. That said the grab wasn't quite as amazing as the one Chavez made, however Amorchor (and ya I botched the spelling) made a catch that finally got the Dodgers past the Yankees after years and years of falling to them in the series. I've also had my dad brainwash this into my mind (as he still remembers seeing it live on TV when he was a kid and well he's been a Dodger fan since there days in Brooklyn).
  14. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) With Major League baseball, I can remember from Bowie Kuehn (spelling?) on, and Selig is the worst. On the other hand Fay Vincent was pretty bad. I actually think that overall Selig is one of the best comissioners the game has had. He's had some minor slips (definately the 94 strike) but as a whole he's been a very good GM. Heck, the addition of the Wild Card alone makes him one of the greatest comissioners ever in my book. I can't even imagine baseball without the new divisional alignments and the wild card (it makes things even more exciting than it used to be).
  15. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Pierre in CF, Fields and in LF. Sweeney gets another year in AAA and is insurance in case Fields cannot handle it. Trade Anderson with Garcia for something? Maybe a young mets pitching prospect or bullpen help. I think if you have Pierre/Fields/Dye in the OF than Sweeney would come in and get a lot of AB's off the bench (of course than you also have BA to factor in and its worthless to have 3 prospects all up at the major league level while only one gets substantial AB's, meaning at least one of these guys should be dealt over the off-season).
  16. Its great to see him actually getting some experience in LF. I think over the long haul he projects as a potential long term option out there. However, I still think Fields has some flaws in his swing that need to be corrected, but he is a darn good all around athlete (especially for a guy with his power). He's also surprisingly quick for a man of his size (he's kind of stubby).
  17. Lance threw a lot of innings so it made sense to give him an entire off-season. Whisler on the other hand missed some time with injuries and finally appeared to get healthy so it will be interesting to see how he does in the fall league (he needs the innings). Gonzalez and Cook are non prospects as is Malone and well Day may be solid but I refuse to call him a top prospect. Basically we sent Whis/Russ/Day and a couple scrubs to the AFL as opposed to some more highly touted players (not that we have many).
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Is there any serious talk of us getting Ichiro? I love that guy. He's being wasted in Seattle. How bout Brandon and Fields for Ichiro? I mean this is Ichiro?? While Ichiro is one of my favorite players to watch in the majors, I just see the acquisition price being a net negative (we'd give up more than we'd get in return) and therefor I see no logical way for us to get Ichiro and become a better team (unless of course we plan going to a Yankee like payroll).
  19. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) Thanks guys. Slavko.... One of the best birthdays I've ever had since I have someone to share it with now. You know ima party all this week and next. Thanks to every poster here who are like distant brothers/sisters/mothers/fathers to me. Happy Bday to one of my favorite posters. Glad to hear it was a good one

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) At least she didn't ask you to be Tinkerbell. . . Hell, I told her I'd rather be tinkerbell than wear those lame tights It would be like a previous costume of mine where I dressed up as a school girl.
  21. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:39 AM) I played "Smear the *****" in gradeschool. (PS: Yes I know the title isn't "P.C." but that IS what it was called) When I was in 3rd grade (roughly 1991), we played TACKLE football. My friend broke his collar bone, but still. We WERE allowed to play it. Note: Edited by Tex. And there was always red-rover as well. I did all of the games you said, plus there was ditch em and other games. Of course one of my fav's was capture the flag but that was just a more high tech sneaky version of tag in a sense. Truly lame of that school. I absolutely loved playing big games of tag in parks.
  22. Squat. Valido is a defensive stud, Lopez and Gonzalez can also play very good defense. However, none of them are very good hitters. Getz is the best offensive/defensive player we have but he doesn't have a high ceiling. That said he's a solid defensive 2nd baseman.
  23. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Now that some details have been released its more than just Uribe saying he didn't do it. He says he has witnesses, his gun won't match the one that was fired, the blackmail. Knowing people, especially in other countries, I believe him. I feel a lot better about it. I hope it turns out that what he's saying is true because I love watching the guy play.
