Leading off for the 2007 white sox will be....
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Here's the thing that I think people on here fail to realize: as much as guys like Pierre and Figgins suck, they play the game the way Ozzie wants players to. Both of them can steal, bunt, etc. The sad thing is that I've almost convinced myself that Pierre would be a good addition to this team. I would have absolutely no problem with Pierre or Figgins because both do the little things Ozzie wants. I realize they don't have that sexy OBP but they will put pressure on the team and do the things our manager wants. Bottom line is we have Ozzie so we have to give him parts he wants and well quite frankly not having a running version of Pods at the top of the order this year really hurt this team (maybe not a ton statistically, although Pods obviously sucked every which way) but I think it more so hurt the entire team in a sense by not having that spark plug at the top that could get himself into scoring position or just get on with a bunt when a pitcher is dominating (steal 2nd) and come in on a single or something. We'll see a new leadoff hitter next year, one with tons of speed and the ability to steal.

Leading off for the 2007 white sox will be....
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) I'm not convinced I like him yet. The injury part always worries me. But I don't have access to significant amounts of medical data on these guys...I'll leave that to KW to research if he thinks its worth it. I thought Jermaine Dye was a big risk when he was signed because of the injury history. If KW could be convinced that he could stay healthy...he could be an ideal buy because others would be scared off by the injury history and the D-Rays might not want to get caught holding him in a crowded outfield. But a lot depends on that injury history. Does his supplier come with the deal, or would that cost us Fields as well? Alright I'll bite, did he get busted for Roids or something or is this just speculation based on the power he had a year ago. Remember, until now I've been away from almost all sports news for about 2 weeks.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Chisoxfan I know you live near the Angels and everything but you are the only person ive ever heard call it a hitters ballpark. Everyone I have talked to about it and whenevr I hear about it on ESPN its moreso refered to as a pitchers ballpark. Now not to the degree of Seattle/Oakland both in your division but still benefits pitchers more than hitters. All I know is about a year or two ago the big stat thrown around was that there were that in terms of hr's per game and runs per game over like a 6 year category was amongst the top 5 in baseball. It was talked about a lot at the time and has quieted down a bit the past two years, but thats because there offense blows and there pitching staff is pretty good. The ball absolutely jumps out of this place though and it is NOT a pitchers park. Not even freaking close, its a hitters park (not in the sake of Coors Field or Houston) but its still a hitters park. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) I'd LOVE to have Ervin Santana on the Sox. He's still young and he's going to get better. He's not going to be as good as McCarthy but he's going to be a very solid starter, hell he's already pretty damn good. Like I said about Michael Young, Santana will be good no matter where he plays I don't know about that. He could very well be better than Brandon. I like Brandon but he's still got a long ways to go, mainly because the White Sox completely wasted the 2006 season on him.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
The Twins pitching without Liriano isn't that scary. Hate to say it but I don't see them going far. A's/Yanks to fight to see who wins the series.

Which 3 of Hasselback, Eli Manning, Vick, and Hasselback picked for Pr
QUOTE(cuddlyboy26 @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Ok lets just say hypotheticaly that Rex had 30 TD passes, Eli had around 25, McNabb had 30 as well, Hasselback had around 25 too, and Vick had 15 but his usual scramble plays and the Falcons were leading the division at 10-4 around at the time. Who do you think would be picked in that hypothetical scenario? Considering that the Bears may have the best record in the NFC to boot, Rex would defintaely get the nod given your scenario. Lets remember one thing, the Bears are one of the most well known franchises in the NFL and historically are one of the greatest as well. In fact, I'd say we are a far more storied franchise than either of the one's in New York. Hell, I can only say the Packers are potentially more storied than the Bears. Now I am not going to say I expect Rex to make the pro bowl, but if his numbers are that good, he'll no doubt get the nod. In fact if his numbers were identical to Eli, I'd expect Rex to get the nod.

Top 10 Outfield Options for 2007 in Free Agency
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) There seems to be a lack of a "none of the above" button. Ya, the only guy I like on that list is Sarge Jr. but there are a lot of questions as to whether he'll be able to duplicate those numbers. If he could, I'd sign him in a heartbeat. If we are going to upgrade the outfield, it will be done via trade.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) This post makes no sense. You think Anaheim stadium is a hitter's park (disagree) but it doesn't explain why he is terrible on the road, and why it would make sense to acquire him when he would pitch in Anaheim maybe once next season if he was on our team. If a guy doesn't play well in the other 29 parks, I don't want him on our team. Its quiet simple. Usually people say a guy stinks on the road simply because he's pitching in a pitchers park. For example if Santana was a Dodger and had an awful road pslit and a good home split I'd see reason for concern. However, if you can get outs in a hitters park (which Anaheim is) than you should be able to get them anywhere. there are always fluke type of stats that fluctuate from year to year. All I know is one thing, Santana is a good looking pitching prospect who I'd take on this ball club in a heart beat. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Every expert on this board said that Soriano couldnt hit outside of his ballpark, and his power numbers especially wont be there. There are factors about everything, lineups, coaching, s*** if the hot tub in the clubhouse is nice enough. Fact is, Santana is a good pitcher. He is young, talented, and is worth a lot IMO. Touche. And a lot of people have vastly underrated Soriano's stats and numbers for a long long time.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) This is true, I believe Tampa wanted Santana and Wood but Anaheim was having no part of it. Yep. As far as those quoting Santana's road stats, I'd just like to point out that he's pitching in Anaheim stadium, which as far as I'm concerned is a hitters park. In fact I think its one of the bigger hitters parks in all of baseball (although those numbers may be down a bit because there offense was freaking terrible).

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Did you like my text..lol Ya, lol. I was in shock that you guys lost to NIU. It sounded more like an Iowa/NIU basketball game in which its me calling NIU, UNI and saying how its a shame that they beat the Hawkeyes yet again.

Great stuff. It'll be interesting to see how these guys actually develop because you'll see rankings like this vary a bit once baseball play starts in a long while.

Ozzie's Final Mistake of 06
I care more about our team doing what we needed to do and I think ab's and innings from guys that haven't already shown what they have is more important than seeing Ab's/innings from guys who we've seen for the entire season (or in many instances, multiple seasons). Plus I'll be rooting for the Twins in the playoffs. They are a fun team to watch that plays the game right.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) I thought Musburger was siding with Iowa, but that's two differentt persepctives. But hey, my team beat Northern Iowa by one, so I'll go chew on that. Both are teams are pretty weak. Iowa would be a lot better if they had the Tate of last year playing but right now you can just tell he's not 100% and its really effecting him.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) I love how Baltimore/SD is going on right now, but I'm stuck with Miami/Houston. Stupid Florida team. Haha, the announcers were just sucking on Michael Vick's dick and then he goes and throws an 97 yard INT for a td. New England Cincy but no, I get Raiders f***ing Browns. WOW, RIDICULOUS. That Charger game was good as was the Panther/Saint game. But either way I was sleeping through most of the games, can't wait till the Bears game tonight though.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) Not a good weekend for Iowa fans, sorry Jason. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2606247 f***. Both are gonna play huge roles for the Hawks this season. I know the staff is insanely high on Tyler Smith (part of a pretty good Iowa recruiting class). Not that I'm shocked about the fb team losing, but this type of stuff always surprises me since our real only major problem has been that prick Pierre Pierce and Alfords mishandling of that whole fiasco.

Aloha everyone!!!
Sweet stuff, hope you and Jim are having a blast

Ryan Sweeney...
Everyone has always known Sweeney has a far greater upside. The only question is whether Sweeney is good enough to be an everyday CFer and whether he'll eventually develop some power to go with a sweet swing. As far as BA goes, I remember commenting on how lost his swing was, but at the same time he has a lot of raw ability and he's fully capable of being a solid offensive player and when you combine that with his defense you have a pretty nice looking prospect/player.

I can't believe that Illinois beat Stanton and the Spartans. What a joke the Spartans are. They are a team with top 20 talent year in year out that fails to win to win games they should and blows games they should win (see ND game). Huge game tonight for the Hawkeyes. I don't think they'll be able to do it, based on what I'd consider less than stellar football in pretty much every game we played (namely because we were playing against lesser competition with the exception of ISU and we only played half of a good game against the Clones). Right now I think Iowa is one of the more over-rated teams in the country based on the way they've played this year, but they could prove me wrong and I sure hope they do. Lets go Hawkeyes!!!!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) FYI if you register and don't see an approval coming through PM someone like me kalapse or jason about it. We have had awful spam problems at some of the sites, and the registry slows that done a bunch. Its a formality for you guys to get over there, and a protection against the damned spammers. BTW, the site is really picking up steam as the season is moving along. Thanks for spreading the word, and jumping on board the bandwagon For the short term, PM Kalapse instead of me. I have minimal internet access and have probably made a whopping 5 posts on the web over the past 2 weeks. I also have zero email access to my main account so if people are wondering why they haven't gotten a response to some email, thats probably the reason why. I'll check my email for the first time Friday, but if I were to guess I'll have about 500 emails to go through os it could take me a good long while.

Now my Irish are getting absolutely destroyed, late TD in the first half to bring it to within 20 but man ND looks ugly having early turnovers really really hurt them. That took them out of there game plan and Michigan has totally taken advtange of them and than also had Henne completely destroy em. Well Henne and Manningham.

Freddy Garcia
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) I honestly don't care which pitcher we trade in the offseason as long as it's not McCarthy...as long as we get the right price back for him. Freddy Garcia in the rotation and a top-15 prospect or two in our organization >> Freddy Garcia traded and a single top 75 prospect. We need to get younger and cheaper in that starting rotation. McCarthy should be in it, even if he does wind up struggling. And we need to get some more talent on the way up, and one of those pitchers can do that. I'm to the point that if we get good value I have absolutely no problem moving Brandon.

Jim Thome
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) The funny thing is Konerko actually has more Ks than Thome in close and late situations (20 SO/18 SO) and Thome has 2 more home runs in the same situations (3 HR/5 HR). Not to mention K:BB for the 2 of them which is completely lopsided, Konerko: 20:9, Thome: 18:20. Of course when discussing the 2 people often say "f*** the stats" or "I'll believe what I see". Which makes discussion on the topic all but impossible. Thats because I think stats are over-rated in tons of situations. But thats a whole other debate.
