QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) I really despise wendy's burgers...they're just not good. They do however, have the best chicken nuggets in the world. The chili and the rest of the 99 cent menu ROCKS.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Check out new player profiles on MILB.com. They're keeping splits now. Oh super sweet. I always went to that other page.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) Gage - I was the first one to tell you about Eggy. I also agree with you RE: Cotts. Tis true, I knew who he was but you pointed out he was doing good. I'm falling behind right now though since I was out of town a ton the past month or didn't have internet access cause I'm lost on how some of the minor leaguers are doing.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) Johan in my book. There's no other pitcher in baseball that I feel if we get down 1-0 with, we're likely gonna lose. I don't even get to that point, I just pencil it in as a loss.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) I'm pretty disappointed in the selections here. Every single poster left out the one team that absolutely can not be stopped.... Probably hands down the best team ever. I'm just gonna post the roster and leave it to others to identify which team featured this absolutely rediculous lineup: Staff Ace: Roger Clemens Catcher: Mike Scoiscia First Base: Don "shave those sideburns" Mattingly Second Base: Steve Sax Third Base: Wade Boggs Shortstop: Ozzie Smith Left Field: Jose Canseco Center Field: Ken Griffey Junior Right Field: Daryl Strawberry By the way, I say england's great prime minster was Lord Palmerston... I don't care what Wade Boggs says about Pitt the Elder That may be the greatest Simpson episode of all.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 05:42 AM) Logan will be a really nice asset for the Sox in September. I wouldn't even be surprised if someone like Neal Cotts ended up "hurt" right before the playoff roster, and Logan ended up on it. I'd be absolutely stunned if Ozzie did something like that. That just doesn't sound like something he'd do. Cotts has been a guy he's counted on for two years and while he's entered a major funk as of late, he'll get through it sooner or later.

Johan, Verlander and than Halladay in my book. Although I think Halladay is a pretty damn good pitcher, I got to tip my cap to what the other two are doing. Obviously I think Johan is the most dominant pitcher in baseball though so he gets the nod and if it were up to me it would be his 3rd Cy Young.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Chisoxfn replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) Check out the ChiSox Daily blog for some interesting analysis regarding Vazquez. http://www.chisoxdaily.blogspot.com/ I didn't realize his meltdown innings have been that bad. I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher suffer that many problems in one inning and it just makes you shake your head and wonder. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) If Jon averaged 8 innings per start in his next 7 starts, and gave up exactly 2 runs the rest of the season, he'd get his ERA down to 3.5. In other words, you're talking about him throwing 5 or 6 shutouts. That would be ridiculous if he did do that. However, he's due for a bad start or two considering how dominate he's been. Either way, he doesn't need to win the Cy Young, let him do what he's been doing and I'll be darn happy. He's my favorite pitcher on the staff and one of my favorites in all of baseball. He usually keeps the club in the games and puts faith in his defense while also fielding his position well all while working deep into games. Oh and he pitches quickly.

I'm going to close this thread. During this whole time, the mods have already been handling the situation. In the future, instead of making posts like this out in the public eye, please send us a PM if you have a problem with something you see. Thats the best way about getting things done because that doesn't take a thread down an entirely different direction.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Ehhhhh, a 3.92 ERA is good and all, but that's not "ace" worthy. In the AL thats definately the definition of an ace. My guess is Johan is about the only guy with an ERA better than Jon's since the start of last year.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) This is going to be a tough series. Vazquez HAS to pitch well, and it would be nice to see Contreras twirl a gem and make Santana sweat. Chalk would be the Sox will do well to win 1, but I think they will win at least 2 of these games. The problem is the Twins execute well and Contreras and Vaz are two guys that can be beaten even if they pitch good because they can't hold runners and they tend to let the opposition get in there heads. Both obviously have the stuff to succeed and Jose has at times been dominate in a Sox uniform (while Vaz really hasn't) but bottom line I'm always scared when we play the Twins and don't have both of Garland/Buehrle going because those are the only two guys in our rotation that can field there position, prevent walks, and prevent guys that get on 1st from automatically reaching 2nd.

I know some people said this series was a statement or that the series finale was a statement. Yes, we played well these final two games (although only one was well pitched). However, we've had games where we play well, the problem is we can't string anything together because our rotation is a bunch of holes and Jon Garland. A real statement would be coming back home and sweeping the Twins thanks in large part to 3 quality starts from our guys. I realize it won't be easy to do, but until we get consistent quality starts this team is still the same team its been all season, a team with an awful rotation and a tremendous offense that will lose when it goes up against a good pitcher unless Jon Garland is pitching or Jose actually decides to show up. I hate to be the Debbie Downer of the bunch but its the facts of life and when your pitching sucks you have a hell of a time ever distancing yourself from the pack and being able to go on a serious streak. I'm going to be the optimist and hope we can come out and start really rolling out some starts. Prior to the twins series this weekend it looked as if we were on our way to that, but than we had a bit of a hiccup, but maybe that was just a kink and we'll get back out there and get some more QS's.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Not into complete game shut outs? Nah, Garland is my favorite pitcher on the staff and I'd love to see him get it (and he did). Just figured no harm in giving him the inning off and getting another one of guys some confidence. That said I had no problem sticking with Jon. Thankfully we have him. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) Why not? It's the same thing Jose did last year and everyone called him an ace. Whose won more games since the start of last season????

Series Preview: White Sox vs Twins By Zach Hansen Soxtalk.com

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) McCarthy could really use some work. And Cotts could use some confidence. With mauer and Morneau in there lineup it would be nice to have two lefties that we could count on out of our pen.
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) So when did this game start? Right about 11 my time or 1 central time.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) I would have to call this a "statement" game I can't say its a statement game, but its a very nice way to finish off the series. The only statement this team needs to make is the one that they can consistently pitch and until they do that, they will find themselves having trouble going on any type of prolong sweep that could really distance themselves from the wild card pack and maybe get themselves in position to give the Tigers a run at the division. A statement would be a sweep of the Twins this weekend led by 3 straight quality starts from our rotation.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Short one. An hr delay.

Wow, awesome outing for Jon. I'd probably go to Cotts for the 9th considering we have this one wrapped up. That or Bmac. I figure both could use the work.

Decent read. Nothing much in it, but not a bad read and really he's pretty dead on.

Freddy, Javier take a few notes from Garland...
Chisoxfn replied to tony72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This thread adds no substance and will be closed. We encourage friendly discussion, but this type of post does not need its own topic. Its one thing if you want to make a post saying Freddy, Javy take notes from Jon and keep the ball down, pitch inside and throw strikes, but its another when you make the post you made. I'm leaving this up as note to others that may see this and hopefully read and realize if they too were thinking about this type of thread that they will not click the "post" button. -
BHAHAHAHAAA Pablo hustles and throws Casey out at 1st. WOW, I've never seen such a play.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) All of a sudden it seems like we suddenly care about winning this game and are trying hard. It's remarkable how good this team can look when that happens. Just watch, Tomorrow, Javy will get touched up for a couple in the first or 2nd, and suddenly they'll look asleep again. Well it all looks a lot better when we get pitching and thats been the problem. I just don't see how we will get consistent performances like the one Jon has tossed thus far. It would go a real long way if Jose can get back to what he did for the first month and a half of the season. As I type this, its 7-0 Sox as Jermaine is now 3-3 and just hit his 2nd HR of the game
