QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Actually not really on the Konerko love. Casual fans yes, but fans that know there s*** im not really sure. IMO Kong gets a bad rap at time with some here. He is slow as s***, deal with it. I have no problem with our .300, 30 HR, +100 RBI man. Take him for what he is. A power hitter in the middle of the lineup. Except people seem to forget he's way more than just a power hitter. He's also one of the best defensive first baseman in the game.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) What? Paul Konerko is better than Thome. Sorry, I don't care what anyone else wants to tell me, but I'll take Paulie up in the crunch over Thome because Paulie's approach is superior. I know some people think Paulie is this dead pull hitter, but he's not. I'd love if Paulie had Thome's eye, but aside from that I'll take Paulie's better all around game. If Paulie had just a bit more speed, wow would his numbers be good cause he'd probably have 10-15 more doubles. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) You do not notice the amount of Thome hate in contrast to the amount of never dying PK love? No, every game thread I'm in I see people b****ing like crazy at Paulie and I laugh cause he's one of our best all around hitters.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) who do think would replace Thome's offensive numbers? are you ready to give up on this team for next year and look to the future? i'm not. what exactly do you think Thome would bring? remember his salary and age. I don't really care to be honest. I want pitching, f*** the offense, we still are an above avg offense without Jim Thome. Sorry, but thats the reality, especially if we can find a new leadoff hitter and get Uribe and Anderson to develop a bit (well Uribe back towards his career norms and Anderson should improve). Plus I think Thome is one of the most overrated offensive players in baseball. Sorry, I don't care what the hell the stats say, my eye tells me he has been incredibly over-rated for about half of the season. Although I'd be the first to admit, part of the problem has been the 1 and 2 spots of the lineup which have been f***ing brutal and we all know my thoughts of Pods.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Now THAT was a block. f*** ya, that was an awesome hit on Parker. Great win for Iowa. They really made adjustments and played very good football in the 2nd half.
  5. Yes, tie game. Iowa is looking awful defensively but offensively Tate looks like he's getting on a roll.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) Starters only numbers are very easy to obtain. Go to MLB.com standings page and click the vs. LHP option. We've had 5 more games against LH starters than any other team in baseball. (Minny is second) I assume that stems from the fact that our division has Minny (Johan and Liriano), Cleveland (Lee and Sabathia), Detroit (Rogers, Robertson), and than KC (Odalis Perez, Mark Redman).
  7. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) So when are those promotional guys from freehookersandbooze.com going to call back and give us some kind of deal like this? QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Hmmm, tempting. How long do we have to decide? LOL! You get the hookers, I'll take the booze. Or you might need the alcohol to disinifect the hookers. The expiration date isn't near, so there is definately time to think about it. I'm going to sign up for it sometime this week to see how it works. I've heard it works pretty sweet though from one of my good buddies. Once I do it, it will be the first time I've played online for money. I've played online before, but usually leave the money element out of the equation.
  8. I'd be shocked if they actually showed a double header. Considering where you are, my guess would be that you'd get the earlier game. I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Sox game because I'm on the left coast and it would be of interest to Angel fans, but who knows.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:05 AM) YA READY GAGE? Yep, offensively you guys look good. Than again, I think you guys are one of the better offensive teams in the catching (at least in the passing game) so I've been puzzled as to how you haven't been able to do better. I'm assuming thats because your defense has seriously struggled against the pass, but thus far Tate hasn't made the finishing plays that could have lead to us getting TD's instead of settling for a FG. Oh and how bad do the announcers suck?
  10. I'm sure everyone here has heard of Party Poker. I have several friends who use, or have used partypoker.net in the past to play poker on. Several days ago, I was contacted by PartyForFree.net asking if they could post on Soxtalk about their company. PartyForFree.Net has made arrangements with Party Poker to provide NEW players from Soxtalk with a free starting bankroll of $75. They assure me there is no deposit or credit card information required and that it really is a 100% risk-free promotion. I'm also told that PartyForFree.Net will deposit $50 into your Party Poker account to get you started, and then Party Poker will give you an additional $25 after you play 500 hands. If you win, yay for you! If you lose, it's on them and you lose nothing yourself. I told them I'd post this myself and link to it using http://www.partyforfree.net/soxtalk This is NOT a referral URL. I don't get any money for each of you that sign up. It is however, a URL that increments a counter somewhere so they know how many people came through Soxtalk. For your information, this is an advertisement of sorts -- one that pays for this server. Discussion welcome. If you have questions, ask.
  11. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) I'm an Ohio State fan but for some reason i hate Iowa more than Michigan. Please pull this one off for me Cyclones! Go Hawkeyes. I love the job Ferentz has done for my Hawkeyes, now lets see if he can get us past ISU for about the 2nd time in his tenure.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) I will never eat at that f***ing place. It's ads are the only ones worse than Burger King. But the taco's are absolutely delicious. I'm sure its grade F products in there, but damn are they tasty.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) You don't trade Thome. However, you need to give him more rest throughout the season, and it would be wise to have a righty on the bench who you can put in the lineup against guys like C.C., Randy Johnson, etc. Actually, I think moving Thome could be a ingenious move. We could get very good value for him and use the chips we got for him to restock our system while trying to find a bat (much easier to find than top notch prospects that we could use to get us starting pitching, which is the real tough commoddity out there). So Yes, I'd be a huge fan of moving Thome. I think he's a great guy but I also think his numbers make him look better than he's actually been.

Do most schools teach CPR? I know I had to take a CPR course while I was taking my health class. You wonder if they could one up the level of expectations that middle schoolers (thats when I took it and than obviously again in Boy Scouts) would really be better prepared and hopefully remember it for the rest of there lives should the unimaginable happen and they need to use that skill on a friend, loved one, or stranger in need.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) Wow, you have to pony up an extra $75 if you are staying at the hotel? Damn, I don't think I will be going either. Per person to boot. Oh well, I figured I wouldn't be able to make it anyway since its during busy season so I guess this just seals it. It just means when my busy season ends I'll have to come out to Chicago for opening weekend or something.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) The way I figured it is have both Bobby and Thornton warming up in the bp... if Jenks didnt look like he had his stuff put in Thornton if he did give him the chance. And he had his stuff out there.. unlike last time. And thats exactly what Ozzie did, Thorty was up and ready.
  17. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) It should be remembered, but it shouldn't become a holiday for the same reasons December 7th isn't one. Took the words right out of my mouth. A tribute or a day of rememberence, of course, but a national holiday I think not. In fact I think that would trivialize the day.
  18. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) You can say that about 4 of our 5 starters. As a matter of fact when will we see our starters not named Garland actually put up a 0 against the opposition? Hell Count was the last to do it and he did it on Aug 11 (1 month, 1 day from now) But as of right now, I'll settle a TON for our starters to pitch well (1-3 earned). See, I can say that when Javy, Count or Garland are on its nasty. In fact when Javy or Count are on its more than nasty and when Jon is on its fun to watch cause he doesn't get hit hard at all, but he's not dominant in the sense of the strike out or anything like that. Either way, right now my confidence meter is on the rise and maybe thats because I'm real excited that they actually played a good all around game (its happened before this year and they've than went on to tank it). Hopefully Mark can come out tomorrow and pitch good and if needed the offense can bail him out.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) I agree, we should have all the faith in the world because jenks saved game four of the world series. He gets a free pass along with ozzie because of his genius managing in the playoffs. One difference, Jenks has been one of the 4 best closers in baseball THIS YEAR. I realize his ERA isn't jaw dropping amazing, but he's converting saves and you know what in the end thats what matters. As far as his stuff, I thought he looked good and he was throwing strikes. When Bobby throws strikes he's pretty tough to hit. You can see some rust and he still has to work on improving his consistency with the breaking ball, but bottom line he did the job and stuff wise looked good (even though he did give up 2 hits).

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) Crank was exactly what it looked like. Crap with a lot of action. But was it hillarious. I can't wait till my friend goes back to working at the theatre on Wednesday so we can mooch free tix off him and see it. I'm thinking it will be better than Transporter 2 (and thats like my favorite movie of the past couple years). Based on the previous it looks ridiculously awful, which means it will be ridiuclously funny.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) I think it's 3 days. I know Jason is a fan of anything that puts green in the blue. Blue being his pants. Hells ya, anything that gets me a closer to getting out of the red zone is cool with me. So if anyone wants to pay like 1000 bucks to go to a Sox game with me, well just shoot me a PM cause I'm down
  22. When does this thing end?
  23. Questionable move, for cripes sakes Bobby is our closer. What the hell are you all talking about. Sure he's been rusty since coming back from an injury but I think he's proven himself over the course of two seasons that we should have faith in the guy.
  24. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) I agree, although freddy seems to at the very least keep us in the games, while Buerlhe has been the most inconsistent The thing is, I can't see Freddy shutting anyone down and I like to know if we have a guy on the mound that he's capable of shutting a guy down when he has his A game. Freddy's A game right now consists of 3-4 runs in 7 innings. Thats a good game right there, but I'm spoiled (hell I'll admit it) and when one of our pitchers throws an A game, I think they are capable of it being a 8-9 inning game with 0-3 runs (usually 1-2).
  25. On a sidenote, just want to point out that I was really surprised, I saw very very few White Sox fans at the game this year. In fact I think this was the fewest I've seen at a Sox Angel game in my lifetime. But I didn't really wander too far around the stadium, I was in my seats part of the game and than moved down into the club level later on and both sections are mainly filled with season ticket holders so maybe its the wrong sample size to see.
