Hot Or Not: May 8th
Hot Or Not: May 8th By Tyler James Soxtalk.com The Sox stayed hot this week posting a 5-2 record. However, this upcoming week may be more difficult as the Sox have ran into some minor injury problems. Thus far the depth of the team has responded positively. After flexing their muscle, it looks like the Sox will be alright throughout the long haul of the season. MORE AT THE LINK

Agustin Montero to be Promoted
QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Hey Jas, guess what Quick says, "they both suck". Technically he's right as I don't think either will be very good this time up, but Tracey can be with time.

Agustin Montero to be Promoted
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Does it really matter. We are bringing in an arm to fill BMAC's spot. He might not even get a shot to pitch, unless we are up or down several runs. Its not like this guy is starting, he is just filling in a gap. I dont understand why people care so damn much. Here's the thing. Sean Tracey could potentially be a long term answer. I realize he may not be ready now, but he's in AAA and has pitched fantastically recently. Moreno is a 28 year old who has never had any success about AA until THIS YEAR. Tracey at 25 is old for a prospect, but he's older because he's a converted pitcher who had only pitched about a year and a half prior to being drafted. I'd rather give Tracey a week or so to just see what life is like in the majors. It would be a great experience for one of our few prospects who could potentially make an impact THIS season (he could be a solid reliever by years end) and he would be up here with little pressure since he would be back down in a week's time. Tracey could also bail the team out if one of our starters got clobbered and we needed a guy to go multiple innings. I'm not a fan of passing up on a talented prospect who has plenty of options left (Tracey). QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) C'mon Jas, I've heard nothing but good things about Tracey's character and I know he has filthy stuff but with his control do you honestly think he can successfully get major league hitters out? Even control pitchers such as BMac struggle with the ML zone their first time around. Tracey needs to cut down on the walks or he will be eaten alive. I know nothing about this Montero character or moses moreno as you like to call him apparently. Hopefully they call him up and he never even sees action except in mop up duty. I don't have the splits in front of me, but since joining the rotation and getting his arm loosened up he has not had near as much control problem. Plus with his stuff and sinker he has the ability to get major leaguer's out. Montero on the other hand has stunk pretty much everywhere he's been, especially as of late. This is by far his best season ever and its his first sucessful stint in AAA after quite a few partial seasons at the level. During that time the best AAA ERA he ever had was 4.97 in 35 relief apperances with Las Vegas (Dodgers AAA affiliate). That was in 2003. This guy is a BUM. Tracey may not succeed in his first stint, but unlike Montero (who has nowhere to go), Tracey could actually use a short stint and learn from it and potentially have his development sped up thanks to it. Just to add one more thing about the knock on Tracey's control. It should be noted that Montero (in his career) gives up over 5 walks per game (5.32).

Agustin Montero to be Promoted
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Well since we dont need a starter because of BMAC, that could be one reason. And because Tracey could give Haeger a run for his money with walks, that could be another. I'd rather take a guy who has major league stuff than a guy who not only doesn't have major league stuff, but has already proven he's a 4A guy and a doper.

Agustin Montero to be Promoted
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) I agree. I just threw out my season tickets. This is ridiculous. I'm not saying its going to cost us the season, but its still a stupid move. Tracey >>>>> Moreno. Not only does Tracey have lightyears better stuff, he also has a tremendous attitude and deserves the shot over Moreno (plus Tracey is more susceptible to suceed). Moreno = AAAAer and a juicer on top of that.

Rumor: Sox Option Haeger to Charlotte, Plan on Promoting Tracey
I for one hope the Sox stick with there original plan because Tracey has really regained his fastball and has improved his command greatly since moving back into the rotation in Charlotte. During spring he really lacked pop on his pitches early on and than finally late in spring training (I happened to be at the game) he found his heater and was really looking good and mowing guys down. In the pen he didn't appear to be able to loosen up and be ready for the start of the season, but the move to the rotation allowed him to get his arm loosened up and ready to roll. He's got major league stuff and could help out in our pen until Jose comes back (temporarily replacing Bmac in the relievers spot) or he could make what is expected to be the final spot start.

Do WORRY about our Closer
QUOTE(fathom @ May 10, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) In my opinion, the cause of the problem is 18 appearances in 33 games. He shouldn't be used in non-save appearances. Ya, I've mentioned it a few times, but we have totally overused him and I fear he will be hurt come the post-season if we continue to do so. He needs a few days off so he can regain his command. Late last season he wore down and started blowing some games (his velocity went south as well) and it was because he wasn't getting enough rest. At this stage he still seems to tire if used back to back to back and since thats happened on more than one ocassion this year its gotten him and he needs a few days without work to get that pop back.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Ya, I was just going to say, Jas you may want to check the permissions on the chat. I still didn't get it to work here, but maybe its a Mozilla problem for me or the fact that I'm working on my work computer. I also noticed that when I click Today's top 10 posters, it doesn't work. Top 10 has not worked. Its associated with the same problem as the search. Maybe the chat just doesn't work with Mozilla. I'll run a test in mozilla in a bit, but right now I'm working on creating a custom skin.

I lied on the gallery. I looked at the ones available and they don't look very impressive at all. We may find a different type of one in the future.

Forums Have Been Upgraded
You will see we have a new chat and the link is up on the forums. Its not quite as fancy as our original one, but I think this one is adequate. You need javascript to use this and only logged in members will be able to see the link (apparently, I've yet to test that). Hope you all enjoy it. We are also contemplating the addition of a gallery for people to post stuff.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) Ok, so I just replied to 1 person's quote in a thread, posted it, then replied to another person's quote, and the system joined those 2 posts together automatically. Is that normal? Because if it is, it's really cool. Yep, it is normal and very cool, especially for the person who posts like myself where as you read a thread you reply to quotes. Ahhh...the smilies look so much better. Great Work Alex.

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ May 10, 2006 -> 07:37 AM) I thought his arbitration year was this year, and he was going to be a free agent this off-season? Does he have another arbitration year? Oh well my bad. Either way why not sign him up long term. CWSOX45 I think we have him for 2 more years.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ May 9, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) Did anyone see that Futuresox was used as a source on the injury to Jose and the possible promotion of Haeger? I thought it was pretty cool. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/clubhouse...m=&majteam=CWS# Ya...I was jazzed about that.
