  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) It pisses me off because we have so much talent and money invested in our starting pitching, yet we have so much uncertainty with our bullpen. I admire what KW did to bolster our offense this season, but I think he really overlooked the one aspect of our team which really was underrated last season. He didn't just overlook it, he pissed away the depth we had there. Trading for Vazquez is fine and dandy, but if your going to give up 2/6th's of our pen and lose another 1/3rd do to injury I expect to see quality replacements brought in. I have no problem developing a guy or so to start the seaosn or even 2 if we had 4 quality relievers that are proven, but this many, its flat out ridiculous. In this day and age bullpens are a key to not only making the playoffs but winning in the playoffs and I fear we will be blowing games left and right and well our farm system doesn't exactly have the depth to go out and acquire 3 GOOD relievers and hell possibly a closer.
  2. I completely agree with this. Our bullpen was ripped to shreds this off-season, losing 3 key contributors and were filling in the pieces with rookies. Jenks is out of shape McCarthy isn't a reliever (and I still expect him to figure things out in the pen, but I'm getting concerned) Logan is a flat out rookie Thornton has been awful (although he seems to have made a bit of progress. We had a rotation that was very strong, but we upgraded that while tearing the bullpen to shreds. Its a big mistake and it could very well cost us if Kenny doesn't make changes. It ticks me off because we went from having one of the best bullpens in baseball to possibly one of the worse and it kills me that a team with a 90+ million payroll whose defending world series champs is going into the start of the season with this many question marks in the pen.
  3. I still think I'd have the Angels ahead of both the Dodgers and Dbacks.
  4. The NBA is beyond ridiculous. They continue to drive me more and more to the college game by worrying about such trivial things. Plus I always though the tights were used for compression. No one is going to tell me they are stylish.
  5. Both of these are amazing. So damn tough.
  6. That top one is sweet.
  7. We will learn a lot about our system as we get Lummy back and see guys like Broadway/Cunnigham/Brooks/Richards/Getz develop. I am quite confident that we had a very good draft last year. Plus we can see if Wes Whisler can somehow develop as well as if our stud catcher can figure it out in full season this team around.

    Young Gun

QUOTE(Young Gun @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) I think I'm more known as KnuckleSox1. I bet some members that were around the time I was around hardly recall me as Young Gun. So many names, you didn't even know who you were at Soxtalk

    Young Gun

Just like with two other formerly banned posters, we have decided to let back in Young Gun. For those of you that don't know, Young Gun was banned a year or two ago for trolling the site and behaving childishly. However, since than he's matured and has actually built another White Sox site. He's also became a valuable member on our new Bears site and has been nothing but respectable. By acting that way we here at Soxtalk feel that he's earned a 2nd chance to be a part of this community. So without further ado, welcome back Young Gun
  11. I just fixed it. I don't know what it is, but the rss link I was using wasn't working anymore. The one I put in this time was a different one, but its working fine now.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) The feed to SSS has been busted on the frontpage for a few days. It seems to be working elsewhere, however. Its weird, I noticed it two days ago and than it started working again without me touching it. I know I haven't messed with it, but I'll check it out and see if somehow a setting got adjusted.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) ya, that's the way they are supposed to be... now jason, if you wanted to get REALLY all high tech, you should bring those buttons into these skins on top of the forums. Now THAT would rock. Thats my next plan. But I am going to test it out on a custom skin first. I figure I shoudl make a new line navigational line for that.
  14. Soxtalk TalkBears TalkBulls All three front pages have been updated. Goldy did some sweet work on those buttons
  15. In less than an hr all of the sides will be slightly upgraded in looks thanks to Goldy.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) Agree. And Cold Stone is gross, IMO. I agree...everyone seems to love it, but its so freaking sweet I can't have but two bites. I'm more of a soft serve guy. I like strawberry and chocolate. but if I get a cone its all about vanilla dipped in Chocolate.
  17. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Unsure, but it wasn't me. Looks like I made it with that kind of spelling.
  18. TalkBears.com TalkBulls.com Yet another shameless plug, but for those of you that are interested, TalkBulls.com and TalkBears.com have opened up there front pages. Our goal is for each of those sites to be much like Soxtalk is today (one stop news places for all things Bears and Bulls). Anyway if your interested check them out and give us some feedback. If you see any features you'd like added, just tell us and we'll do our best to take care of it. And as always, remember to tell any friends that may be interested to check out the sites as well TalkBears.com TalkBulls.com
  19. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I just checked MLB.com and Doug Eddings is on the roster of ML umpires. Number 88 on the roster, number one in your heart. Great, your access is working again. I was checking through my email and it looked as if you had a problem and I don't remember if I got back to your email or not.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) He also has put together a damn good recruiting class this year and is off to a great start for the class of 2007. Floyd sucked in the NBA, but he's a proven good coach at the collegiate level. I wouldn't say ending up with Floyd rather than big boy Majerus is "settling". Floyd was a better hire than Sampson. Call me crazy, but Floyd coached and suceeded at every stop of the way including a non powerhouse like ISU. He is now at USC and so far has done an oustanding job recruiting and he's a very good collegiate X's and O's guy. To make things better USC finally got there own arena on campus (opened up late this past season). I expect them to become a power in the Pac 10 (along with UCLA, Washington and Arizona).
  21. Happy bday Kap 33, no wonder your starting to feel old Hope its a good one
  22. I guess this is a decent space as any for this, but I was going to say if you ever see something in one of those ads that interests ya, definately give it a click. It helps us have some money to upgrade and add new sites and should help us continue to better the site.
  23. If you guys prefer it I can remove that. I've just been too lazy to go into the ad spot and do it, but it wouldn't take me long.
  24. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Recruiting Juco players won't work at IU. He'll have to stop that immediately. Also, he'll have to run a squeaky clean operation and better hope to hell he doesn't bring any of his problems at OU to IU. I am going to give him a fair chance and see what happens. I think he is a great coach, but he has to recruit the state VERY well and cut off recruiting Juco players. As far as Jason's comments about Alford, why the hell do you think Alford is a better hire? Alford has had a chance to win at Iowa and he has proven nothing. He's won ONE NCAA tournament game and had a cute little run at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) that got him the Iowa job. There is a reason we didn't want the guy. He can't win when it counts. It's not like Oklahoma is a basketball rich school. Sampson has taken them to an Elite 8 and a Final Four and has 9 straight 20 win seasons. Alford has done none of that. All he has done is disappoint time and time again in the tournament and come up with a worse Big 10 record than Mike Davis. The Alford would be a fan favorite at IU reason for hiring is crap. To say he (Sampson) is not better than Davis, which is what you basically said, is just plain retarded. Have fun with your hack of a coach at Iowa for the next few years. That is, until you fire him. Alford at IU >>> Sampson at IU Contrary to popular belief Alford is a pretty good coach and a lousy recruiter. However at Indiana he would be able to do a very good job recruiting thanks to the connections he has via his dad and being a part of that program. Alford at IU = GOOD Coach, Good Recruiter and while Iowa will have a down year next year, considering its a lot harder coaching iowa than IU, I actually think we'll be just fine when compared to Sampson's Hoosiers. In fact I think the rest of the big 10 smiled today cause they realize how dangerous how could have been had they made the right hire.
