  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Agree 100%, and i'm obviously not an IU fan. Most IU haters are hoping they do hire Alford and play the whole alum card. I don't think Alford is anything special. If IU wants to get back to being a premiere program in college basketball, Alford is not the guy. As much as I slam Alford. As a coach I actually feel he's very good. He doesn't seem to get out-coached as much as some would lead you to believe and he seems to do a good job getting his players to play hard. I haven't seen his teams ever give up and that says something consider the whole Pierre Pierce incident. That obviously set him back but its not like he has the aura of IU to help land recruits. I'm willing to admit its tougher to recruit at Iowa, especially with ISU doing such a good job in recent years of landing the in-state recruits). Alford has a lot of connections in the state and would be very very sucessful there. I think he's learned more about the type of guy he should recruit too (in terms of not just a skilled player, but a quality individual). Defensively his teams play hard and out of time outs I have to say we run some of the better plays in the country. The fact of the matter is the team doesn't have the athletes that some of the other big 10 schools have and that makes it difficult. We can't get high percentage fast break points like the Illini, Spartans. And while I slam the fact that those teams with Oliver/Evans/Recker didn't go deep, it should be mentioned that Recker's knee was the single greatest reason those teams didnt' make some serious noise. I am dissapointed because Alford had the tools to make Iowa into a power in college basketball. He had success at SW Missouri State and was one of the rising stars in terms of collegiate coaches when we got him. With all that, Iowa had a lot of expectations and I'm just hoping the next guy can take the program farther than Alford did. Afterall, its not like the Illini were some national power in basketball until recently and I think Iowa has the type of school and tradition that could become a power (they have as good of an atmosphere when it comes to football as any team in the country and we have one of the best coaches in the country). Its still a real tough draw recruiting into Iowa.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) I've said this from day one and will continue to say it to any IU fan who really believes Alford is the best choice. Would he even be considered had he not played at IU? The answer is no. As an IU alum and someone who has started to like IU more and more as the years pass and I get over my hatred of Knight, this is an important hire. Don't f*** it up by hiring a bum who has a worse record than Davis in the Big 10. He's won ONE NCAA tourney game with talent like Reggie Evans, Dean Oliver, Luke Recker, Brody Boyd, etc. I mean, to those who say, well he can recruit Indiana. I don't recall many players from Indiana going to Iowa to play for Alford, sans Boyd who wasn't even offered a scholarship by IU. No one should actually believe that Greg Oden (Ohio St), Mike Conley (Ohio St), Josh McRoberts (Duke), Courtney Lee (Western Kentucky), Dominic James (Marquette), Anthony Winchester (Western Kentucky), etc. would have gone to IU had Steve Alford been the coach. These guys don't care about Steve Alford winning in 1987. They want a coach they can relate to and someone who is a good WINNING coach. Steve Alford is neither. I will support IU regardless, but they can do better than Steve Alford. We did get Freeman from you guys and that kid is gonna be a player. Hell the strides he's made offensively in his freshman season have been ridiculous and he's one of the better defensive freshman at the point position that I've seen in a long time. Problem is he came to Iowa solely because of Alford (Freeman's dad was teammates with Alford). My guess is if it weren't for Alford he would have been at IU. I'm glad Iowa got him but I think my biggest fear with Alford leaving is that Freeman will go join him at IU (and Freeman is one of the few younger players we have with some talent). It should be mentioned that Freeman is from Maywood ILL (same place as Dee Brown is from IIRC).
  3. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) And shows up to Soxfest without a beard. I see the kid maybe twice a year, and he has no beard. SnB and i were greatly disappointed. I'll make up for it. Next year my beard will have a swallow from Mission San Juan Capistrano living in it.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) Jason, i don't understand you. You live in freaking California, and all you do is talk about how great the state of Iowa is (Even though it sucks). I have no idea why you are wasting your time with that state, this is just ridiculous. It's like someone talking about their sweet tricycle when they have a Lexus in the garage. Ya, but that tricycle is where your memories are. I'm not saying Iowa is exciting, but they don't have sports teams I hate like Indy does. Oh and I think it should be mentioned that I like to egg heads on and most of my posts were just that.
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) Corey Maggette took money from a booster, so Duke had to forfeit the money they won for finishing 2nd in 1999. That's not really Coach K's fault though. Stanford's requirements are higher than most schools, but they're not ridiculously high. Josh Childress was accepted with a 1250 SAT and like a 3.7 GPA. I know that's still above average and precludes them from taking maybe half of the top 100, but it's nowhere near their normal standards. True thats not there standards, but thats a pretty damn impressive GPA none-the-less. I bet ND/Stanford and those type of programs all combined have more bright students with high GPA's than most of the big 10 and other major conference schools combined. No knock, but its something that I think should be respected.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Haha. Yeah my dislike for Iowa is purely based on a certain large group of their fanbase. It's nothing compared to my thoughts on tOSU and UM, I honestly can say I probably dislike those 2 schools more than even Duke basketball. I do give Duke credit for one thing. I can't ever remember them having any sort of NCAA violations. At least under Coach K. Its also why I always had a lot of respect for Stanford's programs. They can't just bring in any talented guy they want, they have to also have high acedemic marks (same with my favorite football team...ND).
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Again my dislike for Iowa, like the Cubs, doesn't indict the entire fan base. My own father is a Cubs fan (although mind you, one of the few that has a clue) and I don't hold that against him....for the most part. Its alright.....we will poison your corn in our Iowa conspiracy to take over the world. It will all start when Alford leads a team of Hawkeyes to the National Championship Coincidentally it will also be the day that Heads ends his life.

QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) hollywood is making the same movie over and over again. Can't blame harrison for that. Lets not forget his greatest roles: Indiana Jones and Star Wars
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) One of my best buds goes to Indiana, and for the most part (except the occasional old banner pointing) Indiana fans are cool. The only teams I dislike in the Big 10 are tOSU and UM (the favorable treatment and cheating they get away with is amazing) and Iowa (it's no coincidence so many Cubs fans are from that state). Well the two greatest admins have ties to Iowa (Heads and myself), even though we are outnumbered drastically by Boz, Greasy, 2k, and Kap.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) #10 in both polls, I refuse to accept that I'm watching the #10 team in America. I love the Illini, but it's not possible. Defense...defense...defense I am officially declaring myself wrong on MSU. They will not make noise in the NCAA's. The Illini just may.

    Lasik Cost?

This makes me curious cause I wouldn't mind getting it done eventually. That said contacts really don't bother me, but I hate having to get up in the night and no being able to see.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) No surprise. You hate everything to do with the state. You hate Peyton, Reggie, and IU. I only hate Peyton. I have nothing against Reggie Miller or Reggie Wayne (don't know which one your talking about). Oh and hate isn't a strong enough word...I think despise is better when it comes to Peyton IOWA>>>>>Indiana (I'm referring to states). Come on the Iowa Cubs...now thats a team. Edit: It should be noted that I actually don't mind the Pacers. I like Jermaine O'Neal a lot and was dumb enough to pick them to win the NBA Title last year (but Artest had to go nuts).
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) I'm starting to like you more and more each day I actually root for the Illini and for the most part all big 10 teams, especially come tourney time. I remember going nuts during that run against AZ. Definately the best comeback and one of the funnest college basketball games in my lifetime. I do hate Indiana though.
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Don't forget to send me directions Gagely. Good work Andrew. Hopefully those instructions I sent you make sense.
  15. The Arms Race: Lefty Reliever Candidates By Andrew Dunn February 27, 2006 Soxtalk.com There are not as many questions for this White Sox team heading into the 2006 season as there have been in the past. However, one question most White Sox fans will be asking themselves is, “who will be the second left-handed reliever?” They will be replacing Damaso Marte (traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Rob Mackowiak). At this stage, based on comments by the coaching staff, it appears that the Sox plan on carrying a second lefty, especially with early indications hinting that the club would like to carry 12 pitchers...MORE
  16. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) There's a Little Caesars right down the street from my house. I always laugh when I see the person standing on the corner holding a large sign that says "Hot and ready". They couldn't pay me enough to do that. I've gotten their pizza when we need something fast and cheap. Mostly I just stop for the crazy bread though. Its about the only pizza I eat. A buddy of mine's dad runs/owns two of them and if I want Pizza I just show up and mooch a free pie. Of course we make them different and throw assloads upon assloads of toppings on them and make them custom to our liking. But if it weren't for that I wouldn't eat there. Although it is a hell of a deal.
  17. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) At this point i don't even think it's IU's decision, it's Alford's decision. If he wants to leave Iowa, it's his, and if he doesn't, IU will look elsewhere. That's just how i see it going down, for better or for worse. Trust me...he's gonna be long gone at Iowa. I am starting to think its gonna be a big time blessing in disguise. Just look at what he has next year...we are going to be terrible.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) Gary Oldman, right? He's always the bad guy in movies. We watched that a few weeks ago for the first time in a while. They don't make those good, cheesy action movies like that anymore. Thats why I think Steven Siegal needs to come back. UnderSiege...one of the greatest action flicks of all time, imo.
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Losing Frank Thomas was not bad news. He is no longer a productive everyday major league baseball player.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) Finally.. after the 38,436th time you've said so.. I think I'm starting to believe you. It's all a hoax....just like crop circles.
  21. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) The Herd and GM Kevin Towers of the the Padres just put their stamp of approval on Kenny doing what he had to do. The Herd made the great point of rarely do you see a GM with enough guts to call out a star player who publicly rips an organization. He applauded KW for doing this. In fact he played KW's comments a couple of times. Towers, a good friend of KW, said that KW is a competitor and has heard enough from Frank. Good stuff. I'm with you on this. Although I still think the wisest thing would have been to keep his mouth shut, but at the same time, I realize people are sick of Thomas always attacking and never getting attacked. Well that has stopped and my guess Frank is finally going to think twice before opening his mouth.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) Yeah no kidding. Professionalism and Ethics are two words that come to mind. But where's the excitement in that
  23. AJ is the guy that looks to have gotten even bigger if you ask me.
  24. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) In my mind, he is gaining favor at this point. Obviously we don't know who the true candidates are and may never know completely, but I am liking Crean more and more. Not totally against Alford, but not pro-Alford either. I'd rather lose Alford and get Crean. Of course I'm just hoping for McDermott after IU takes Alford away.
