  1. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) I'm hearing the Wolves could get as many as 3 first round picks as well. Still an awful trade. Especially when you consider we have their pick this year. It would be a great move by the Knicks though. Regardless of the number of picks they give up. Really dumb by the Twolves. If the Wolves are serious about dealing KG, than the Bulls should be serious about acquiring him.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) I dont mind overpaying for Brees if it gives us a good QB actually.... since Brees might not be ready at the begining of the season we will see what we have in Grossman anyways....This team is ready to win now and dont think we should let 1 position hold us back no matter the cost. Most things I have read said he will be near full strength at mini camps. So by the sounds of it he should be ready to go by training camp.
  3. If all indications are that he's going to heal? I'm more than willing to throw money his way. Maybe find a way to structure the contract so that if he is seriously injured the team has the ability to cut him early in the contract, but if he proves he's healthy he gets a good sized roster bonus in a year that will make it a very very good contract for Bree's in the latter years (one where after the 1st year or so he's assured to get very good money). I have no doubt that I'd rather have Brees at the helm as opposed to Grossman. I like Rex a lot, but I'm not about to sit around when an impact QB is available and thats exactly what Brees is. Drew has been one of the better quarterbacks in the league the past two years and isn't yet in his prime. I should add I wouldn't mind picking up Pennington if he's cut (assuming it would be a very minimal type contract). Chad's obviously had a ton of health issues, but lets not forget qb's going down with arm injuries for a long period are very rare (so don't mix Brees with Pennington, imo). If I'm the Bears I have zero problem looking long and hard at upgrading the QB position. Its the key position on the offensive side of the field and we've shown that we can't keep the position healthy. If they can't find an upgrade than I have no problem sticking with our guys, but let it be known I think we should still invest some of our cap (we have plenty of it) in a backup QB. Hell Jon Kitna wouldn't be a bad option at all.
  4. f***...now Illinois is really gonna be up for the game this Saturday at AH. Oh well, Iowa needs this one bad and I hope to hell they can pull it off.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) The kid is a baseball genius and he comes by it naturally. Listening to his clinic you could tell Bmac is a sponge of every baseball mind he has ever been around. And a true perfectionist. I really liken him to the type of guy Greg Maddux was when it came to executing. We'll see if he can have that sort of career (it would be pretty awesome). I love how calm and confident he is on the mound.
  6. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws Man I think I reported that a few months ago Well the gist of that. I need to get back off my ass and start writing. But I think this is smart of Brandon. The pen is a totally different role and it would be hard to get comfortable in the pen and work on a new pitch. That said I wouldn't be shocked if he toys with the new pitch during spring training just a bit, but I wouldn't expect to see him use it much (he'll probably toy with it again over the off-season and than next spring).
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) KU would absolutely destroy zaga imo. I actually think Illinois would be able to take them down as well, a team that plays no offense vs a team that plays no defense. I'll take the team that plays d. In most instances I agree, not in the Illini's case. They are too dependent on one guy. Morrison is a stud, but Batista is pretty damn solid as well. On a unrelated sidenote, Pepperdine's leading scorer last night Forehan Kelly was on my schools amazing high school basketball team (same year as me). It was cool seeing he finally caught on somewhere cause I always thought he was a pretty damn solid player.
  8. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 01:25 PM) The final rosters are not due until March 2. He's on the provisional roster right now, and all those players are the ones listed. He might not make the final team. The Dominicans need a catcher, and another OF to round out the lineup. This is the potential they have right now: 1B: Pujols 2B: Soriano SS: Tejada 3B: Aramis Ramirez/Beltre DH: Big Papi OF: Manny Ramirez OF: Vlad Pitchers: Colon and Martinez Stoneman is trying to force Colon and Escobar out of the games. I don't blame him either.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Damn, that says Uribe is playing. I'd much rather him come to ST and work on being in the #2 slot. Damn WBC. Yay for 5,000. I don't care as much about hitters going. I care about the pitchers going.
  10. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Agree on the announcers, and I agree that Gonzaga is overrated, but as much as I think he is a punk, when a team in college basketball has someone that can score like Morrison can, they could be in every game they play. From an Illinois perspective, Randle could control Morrison if he could avoid fouls, and Kansas certainly plays very solid defense, but to claim a double digit win seems rash. I do believe both teams are better than Gonzaga, but Morrsion is damn good. KU may beat the Zags but I don't think Ill would.
  11. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) Couple of trades that Chad Ford suggested in an article on ESPN: Deng, Duhon, Thomas, Pike, Allen, and both 1st rounders for Garnett and Jaric Gordon, Duhon, Thomas, Pike, and Knicks' pick for Pierce and LaFrentz Obviously the Bulls are giving up a ton in both deals. I think I can live with the Garnett one because we are getting one of the best players in the league and Jaric is a serviceable guard. We'd probably have to go after another forward to really make it work, but I'm not sure how much cap space we'd have left. The second deal I don't like so much. LaFrentz is fairly useless and expensive, and it seems like a bit much to include the Knicks' pick. If it were our pick that would seem better for us, and I don't think it'd be a deal breaker for the Celtics. 1st won I'd do in a heart-beat. Second one I'd do if we could make it our pick and not the Knicks or make the Knicks pick top 3 protected. Why would I do it. Its pretty obvious that Pierce >>> Gordon/Duhon and well LaFrentz is just a filler but solid enough and who cares about Thomas/Pike (even though I like Pike). I'd be all over the Garnett deal, especially cause I like Jaric. He could replace Duhon as the backup PG and get minutes at the 2 as well.
  12. QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 05:56 AM) How about bringing Mike Montgomery and Keith Smart to IU. With Smart being the eventual replacement for Montgomery. A darkhorse guy that intrigues me is Darrin Horn from Western Kentucky. He has recruited Indiana and is young and has done a pretty good job rebuilding Western Kentucky. Mike Mont is a real quality coach and did a great job at Stanford. That said I think he's doing a solid job at Golden State and I don't see him leaving.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Oh we'll try out darndest. Yeah, it's saturday at 5pm CT. I believe it's on ESPN. However, we need to beat Michigan tomorrow to have any sort of shot at sharing the title. Screw that. I fear an Iowa collapse. We need to have a strong game on the road.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) I would venture to say that his wife added as the mouthpiece. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/buck/jun00/...t15s1061500.asp Glen always said his wife spoke alone on that matter. His wife was a freaking nut. Maybe even more so than Kendra Davis. Glen Rice's wife always was mad that the media blamed Glen and never liked the trade. I don't think you'll ever say Phil wished Glen was Scottie. They couldn't get Scottie.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) I think you're too in love with Kobe. Rice wasn't driven out. He was a FA IIRC and he left because Phil wanted him to be Pippen and was mad that they couldn't get Pippen. There's even quotes somewhere about that. Don't let your love for the Lakers blind you. Eddie Jones wasn't liked by either Shaq and Kobe and Buss liked him, but preferred Kobe. Shaq was the one who most bumped heads with Eddie Jones. None of that is made up. It was in the media at one time or the other. Don't let your Lakers love/Kobe love blind you man. Ummm I hate the Lakers. Laker fans and the organization were exstatic when Rice left. His wife shot off her mouth continuosly and Rice started to play terribly, especially in the playoffs. Kobe had ZERO say at that point in time. Maybe Shaq didn't like him, but it had nothing to do with Kobe. The traded did give Kobe more playing time because they felt Rice was more of a true SF while Eddie Jones was more of a SG, which was what Kobe played.
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Well Van Exel did run himself out in LA. As far as the other stops, that's not true. He liked Denver and they just traded him because they thought they were getting a better deal at the time. He was traded from Dallas as a business deal. Jones was traded solely because of Shaq and Kobe from what I know. They really didn't get along back then(don't know about now) and Buss loved Kobe's charisma. Rice was had because they couldn't get Pippen which is what drove Glen crazy in LA and the sole reason he left LA. WRONG. Rice was driven out of LA cause he started to suck and his wife wouldn't ever shut the hell up. She drove the organization nuts. Your full of it on Eddie Jones. He was very well liked by the organization and it was a tough trade to make but one they felt had to be made. They also unloaded Elden Cambell who had a pretty bad contract in that deal. Kobe haters...stop making up s*** just for the sake of trying to slam Kobe. There are a lot of things you can slam him for, but most of the s*** you haters post is just ridiculous.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) He might of had 1.... Kobe drove Nick Van Axel or whatevr out of LA too and him with Eddie Jones plus Shaq is a good team still. Are you kidding me. Nick Van drove himself out of pretty much everywhere he went. The guy was a total attitude problem. Eddie Jones was dealt to get a shooter. Phil wanted a guy that could shoot and he got that in Glen Rice. People tend to forget that Glen Rice played a really key role in at least one of there championships. On a sidenote, you do realize when Nick the Prick got dumped it was only Kobe's 2nd year. Kobe was looking like a real good future player, but he didn't have any clout in the organization. Got, what a ridiculous ass argument. Also, Nick had a bad contract to boot. And Kobe still had no say when Eddie was shipped out a year later (after Kobe's 3rd season).
  18. Got as low as 39 over the night. Supposed to warm up tomorrow though.
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 06:21 AM) Shaq's has first hand experience when it comes to ballhogging guards who take away from dominant low post players. Are 3 rings somehow taken away from shaq cause without that ball hogging guard he wouldn't have those rings (vice versa too).
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Did they redesign the hats for this year? I don't remember the white/silver bills from any game I watched last year. Are those ST only? They typically wear a different hat during ST with gray bills. They are supposed to breath better IIRC.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Players said the same thing when Knight got fired, and nobody left. WH said Dee, Luther, and Williams all said the same thing when Self left, and they didn't leave. I still think you're underrating what kind of job IU is. It's still really high up there with history, prestige, etc. We're not there currently, but it can be argued that the perception exists that it is. And if we get the kind of coach we have the ability to pick up during this time, they could keep DJ and Vaden from transferring. If ND football wasn't as popular of a vacancy after a few down years than no one is going to convince me that top coaches that are already with winning and succesful programs are going to end up jumping ship and joining IU. Alford is the exception cause this might very well be his dream job (and well he's not consistently proven himself as a top coach). Tom Cream is the guy I'd easily see leaving Marquette. Also, the reason IU hired Davis so quick is because the players liked him and said they would stick around if Davis came back (thats why they named him the interim coach so quick and then finally when Alford got his extension at Iowa, he was named the full time head coach). Of course if Mike Davis doesn't get hired elsewhere, I don't know why they'd leave cause I thought the whole reason for leaving was so they could rejoin Davis somewhere.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) See, think about this. Alford would not even be close to a candidate, if he wasn't an IU alumi. That's really all I see he has going for him. He wouldn't be someone we'd be looking at otherwise; that's why I can't get excited about him. Thats a big factor though. Your right cause he's still signed for a few more years at a more than fair rate for himself (he has a good contract at Iowa). I don't see many top notch coaches will to leave there respected programs for IU though. Especially considering all the threats from some of there top players to leave now that Davis is gone. They'd essentially have to come in and rebuild the program while most top coaches have a there nucleus built where they are. Thats why I think if its not Alford it almost has to be someone whose not coaching this year. The only exception I can see is Cream cause IU is an upgrade over Marquette.
