Big game in the big 10 on TV tomorrow. I'm glad to see Aaron Andrews will be in attendance w/Lavin and Munsberger. Spartans @ Iowa and Iowa will be looking to redeem themselves from there worse loss on the season. Should be a great game and if Iowa can hold home court it will help seperate them from the rest of the big 10 and further make it a 2 team race (OSU/Iowa). But with the rest of the big 10 so close behind, I have my doubts, plus MSU plays great against the Hawks. I'm gonna be pulling for em though and I can't wait. UConn-Vill tonight and than my Hawks tomorrow -
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) They cover a lot of ground around the country and the reception was pretty good the few times I did use it but we went back to US Cellular because our monthly bill is cheaper there. Plus they cover most of Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa which is about all the farther we travel anyway. I was gonna mention they aren't the cheapest. Cingular and Tmobile are the cheaper national carriers, but in terms of best network its Verizon. US Cellular isn't available in most areas (well at least not out on the West Coast). That said people with US Cellular cell phones would be able to make calls with CA cause they'd make some sort of agreement to use someone elses signal.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) Iowa could go to the elite 8 or lose in the 1st round based on their bracket. Just avoid long armed, athletic teams.....the Iowa white boys can play, but are just not very athletic and not very big other than Hanson. If they play a team with some good bigs and Hanson is in foul trouble they are probably toast. That said Thomas is a pretty good defensive player (off the bench) and his physical style has really given at least a few quality bigs some trouble. I'm thinking they are a sweet 16 team, but anything can happen. Plus we still have a lot of the regular season left. If they go elite 8...well I'll be dancing a jig. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) New bracketology is out http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology . Joe has SIU as a 7. He still has the mvc with 4 and mo state out. Illinois as a 4 in here as well. Cripes..Iowa a 3 now. Now we are in a position where if they are a 3 and they lose they turn into total embarassments. -
Verizon is the best cell company in US, but that said it depends on your area.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) Oh, and as big a problem as it is that we have ZERO post scorers, it might be an even bigger problem that we have NOBODY besides Tyson who can guard a legit 4 or 5. Find us a good low post player and I wouldn't worry. Not many teams have two legit low post scorers so having one awesome low post defensive player is enough, especially when that one guy can take on most any type of big (well thats the ultimate goal for Chandler..he may not be strong enough for some guys, but he's still one of the best in the biz defensively). This team drastically needs a low post player. I think a lot of people under-estimated when Curry was able to do because teams had to actually worry about him in the block because he could create buckets in the low post. I'm not saying we should have signed him cause I long said that would have been foolish all things considering, but the Bulls need to find a guy like that. Hopefully he'll have a big enough of a body that if we do match up against a Shaq we can stick him on Shaq and just try having Chandler play help D. Note: I'm referring not necessarily to this years squad but next years and the ones down the line.

Excellent. I love the larger rinks they use in Olympic play.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) If you want to evaluate tools, then I agree with you. With his height, athletic ablilty, and wingspan, he could eventually lead the league (or be top 3) in rebounds and blocks every year for several years, and if he does that FOR FULL SEASONS, I'll say he's earning his money. But he can't be a good defender and rebounder, or even great, he has to be THE BEST (or close to it) in the NBA to earn his money, because he is never going to be a great or even good offensive player. That's all I'm saying. And for the record, I hope Tyson does turn into that because he seems like a real nice kid and I don't want to spend the rest of my basketball fan life wanting to kill myself over the Brand trade like I am right now. He's got to turn into a Ben Wallace type player. I think he's capable of that. Although I don't know if he'll ever be able to go against a center like Shaq, but the nice thing is there is only one Shaq. He can play guys like Jermaine O'Neal and I even think Duncan. Still needs more muscle mass, plus more confidence offensively (just enough to keep defenses honset where they can't just lay off him and double team others).

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) And of course, Chisoxfn wouldn't even have to state the obvious if people actually looked into things. Don't run your mouth if you're not even watching these games. That's one of the sure signs of a fool. Late in the game there was an insane play by Chandler. Brand ended up scoring but Brand got the ball in the low block (this is probably will a minute or so left in the game) and Brand is wide-open with Songalia off of him (I think it was Darius, may have been Noc) but Brand turns and just looks to have a wide open shot from a few feet away and out of nowhere Brand swoops in (happened right in front of our seats) and it was just awesome d. Brand ended up getting the ball back and getting a put back, but it was an awesome play. On another play Brand tried blowing by Tyson and I saw his face and Brand just looked shocked. He made a move left and than tried to go right and around towards the hoop for a dunk/layup and Chandler is already over standing there and Brand had nowhere to go. Anyone that didn't watch the game may look at Brand's points and slam on Tyson, but Brand put up almost all his points from the line (not on Tyson's fouls) and from Sweetney (who tried hard but can't guard Elton) and Songalia (harrington actually did a solid job but wasn't in that often). When Tyson was on Brand, Brand couldn't do crap. It was just an awesome display cause Brand is rarely shut down by any defender. Noc and Hinrich are pretty banged up though. Noc left at the half with a bloody nose and looked to be limping off the court right near the end of the game. Duhon wasn't anywhere to be seen (is he back in Chicago getting treatment?). The ASB couldn't come at a better time cause I really think (hinrich especially) need the rest. Hinrich's shot is really being effected by his shoulder injury.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) I cannot believe I watched curling as well. They always look so upset, calm down your sweeping ice, its not that hard. I was watching it too. I honestly have no clue what the sweeping does. I assume it speeds up the rock though. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:16 AM) Usually beasts dont give up double-doubles with 30 pts. He got most of his points on Sweetney and Songalia. When Chandler was on him he had pretty much nothing.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) They still have both but at this point I'd rather play IU than Minny. I'm with you on that. And Michigan is in a funk since losing its guys. Although it took a ridiculous shooting performance from the Buckeyes to beat em. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Illinois is far from out of it in the big 10. They've given themselves an uphill climb but in the last few weeks I think it's been proven that no one wants to win this conference and there is no such thing as a gimmie game either. They have a decent schedule too. IU and Michigan are down and they get Iowa (who doesn't play all the grand on the road) at home. NU at home should be a lock and I don't see a chance in hell that they knock off the Spartans in East Lansing. -
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) I'm excited as well. Saw= Haven't seen it so I'm looking forward for it coming out (i'm referring to the 2nd one).

The USA is laying an egg... at least we are going to get all 3 medlas in Snowboarding (even though its a gay sport) and Ohno is going to win all the Speed Skating medals. Ya, its a gay sport alright. Why don't you try it cause I guarantee you couldn't come close to doing the stuff they do. So how about instead of slamming a sport, you just STFU. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) All 4 American competitors are in the snowboarding halfpipe final. US will own the snowboarding events. Too bad Terje is older cause he's the best snowboarder ever...BY FAR too. Alta, or however you pronounce it, is about the only foreign border that even stands a chance against these guys (rides flow though and he's about the only top pro that I know rides them). -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I still say we will see multiple teams tied for the Big Ten Championship at 11-5. The Illini are not out of it yet. Wouldn't shock me one bit. -
They played a great game. Hinrich was jabbing at Cutino Mobley most of the game and with the team up 2 and time expiring Hinrich basically told him he was gonna take it on him and did exactly that, drew the foul and hit both free throws. Hinrich totally schooled Cassel as well. He missed quite a few open jumpers but was awesome down the stretch. Chandler was a beast on Brand and had a few sick blocks. It was sweet, I thought I was gonna see a blowout but instead I am now 2-0 watching the Bulls at Staples this year. Badass seats too, was sitting 6 rows behind the Bulls bench.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) Good point on Faulk, but take a look at what Stephen Jackson does next year in St. Louis and you'll see my point. Martz has simply got tired of the running game, he just wants to pass all day now. Thats cause he was on his own as the head coach. Now that he's an OC the head coach (just like Vermeil would do back when he was with the Rams) will just have to get on his ass and make sure the team runs the ball enough. I've long said Martz is an amazing OC and he would have been an amazing coach, but the ego gets in the way of him being an amazing coach because he ends up getting too gutsy and leaves the run game behind which leads to his QB getting killed. I think the Lions have done a very good job this off-season and they do have some skilled players on the team. They still have a way to go, but I think they are the 2nd or 3rd best team in the division right now (ahead of the Pack and fighting with the Vikes).

QUOTE(beck72 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) Didn't ESPN magazine write a very negative piece on him a year or two back? If so, I could see why he wouldn't talk to them after he's had some success It may have been negative but it was also true. It was a sad story and he had a rough childhood and a really rough go round with the Angels, but for the most part it was his fault (although his parents sure as hell didn't help him out and they probably were the cause of the whole fiasco, but somewhere the blame still lies on Bobby because he wasn't a kid anymore). That said everyone in baseball knew if he could ever straighten his head (and of course stay healthy) the kid had everything it took to be special. The Angels finally got sick of him and Kenny wisely picked him up and took the shot. I have no idea whether the Sox realized that Jenks started to get his head on straight after meeting his wife or if they just dumb lucked into it. My guess is they probably more made the move simply because they knew the type of upside the kid could have. Not many guys have the breaking pitches he has as well as the heater he has. Of course command, health and being mentally strong are the other requirements necessary to be a great pitcher and it looks like maybe he's figured those out. I sure hope he has cause he has a shot to have a very very very special career. That said it could all blow up with an arm injury or anything else, but that could happen to anyone. I'm sure pulling for the kid though, he's gone through some really tough times in life and seems to have pulled out of them for the best.
