Official Super Bowl Thread

Well my pick was wrong, but all I'm going to say is what a BS way for Pitt to win. I feel bad cause they may have been the better team, but honestly, neither team outplayed one another, Pitt just got every freaking call and they were horrid calls too. I'm not even complaining about the TD cause honestly you knew whichever way it was originally called it wouldn't have been over-turned but you had that phantom holding call, a tick tack offensive PI, and than Hasselbach on this so called illegal chop block (what the hell was that call). Just 3 (2 total blatant ones caues I could see someone callling the offensive PI, although I wouldn't have). -

I'll be rooting for the Steelers, mainly because I am a huge fan of Big Ben. But I'm picking the Seahawks to win 24-20. -
And I know I'm not the only fan of the show on here, but for those that aren't aware of it, Cartoon Network reached some sort of agreement with Groening and company and the show went back into production for a few episodes (IIRC, it wasn't a large number of new episodes, but new episodes are still new episodes). My guess is if the new episodes do well they will order up a full season. Or so I hope. So you assbags better all watch these new episodes cause I demand more new Futurama's

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 08:29 AM) Wasn't the Super Bowl almost always on CBS??? It has been rotating for as long as I remember??? Did it used to be on CBS in the olden days or something?

Kansas wins by 1 coming from 16 down in the 2nd half. Huge win for the Jayhawks. It looked like the route was and the Jayhawks won what could be the decisive game come selection Sunday (a win against OU will be real nice for there resume). -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Back and forth lead changes, OU with the ball down 1 with 19 secs left. Now 1.9 left and OU ball down by 1. -
I liked it when it was all together, but thats just me. Sure we get a lot of Bulls talk here, but we also get mostly big 10 talk in the NCAA thread. That said you also have Rowand talking up his mid major, palehose and UNC, Jimbo and Kansas.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) Very. As far as parody goes, Duke is not a great team if they face the right opponent they could be gone in the sweet 16. People might think I'm crazy for this second team but the two best teams I've seen play this year are UCONN and Florida. Talent wise I put Memphis way up there too. They have some insane athletes and they make some amazing plays but the few times I've watched them they seem to at times play too fast and with that they don't play disciplined and it leads to some mistakes and easy baskets for the other team. If Callipari can get them to play a little more heady they could be very dangerous come tourney time. On a sidenote, Kansas is on a big time run and has tied the game back up. They were down by 15 or 16 at one point with about 7 or 8 to go in the half. -

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) I agree to a certain extent. For one thing, Illinois is clearly nowhere near as good as they were last year. Now that being said, there are really only 2 good teams in the country this year... Duke and UCONN. I'm not saying that I expect Illinois to go to the Final Four, but someone has to, and I fully expect there to be 1 Big 10 team there (Iowa, MSU... I'm not sure which one). I also think this is going to be one of the hardest NCAA tournaments to handicap in recent memory because there is a ton of parity this year. I'm a big fan of this parody cause it gives so many more teams a shot and makes the tourney that much more interesting. Also, mark my words, Duke will not win the national championship. That will be Uconn. I actually think Duke may go down earlier than people think because I think they have more weaknesses than the typical #1 team in the country. As I type this Kansas is getting clocked by OU. It was a close game in the 1st half but the 2nd half has been all Sooners. -

QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) I completely agree with you jas. I've been saying it for what seems like the entire season, but we are not the 6th best team in the country, period....and we never were. And yes, after completely underestimating iowa the entire year, ____ finally come around and ____ think they are better than we all think they are. They've just seemed to come out of nowhere this season. Besides that awful loss to MSU, they've been the most solid team in the big 10. I'm editing that post out. I don't want you saying anything nice about Iowa -

Guys, like Iowa and some of the better Big 10 teams, Illinois doesn't have the talent to consistently win games. They aren't the team from last year. I know Krush and SNB realize this just like I realize this about my Hawkeyes. Now could either of these teams (along with OSU) make a run deep into the tourney, sure, but none of them is going to win the tourney. Illinois lacks the weapons on offense because if Dee Brown is slowed down they don't stand much of a chance. Its hard to win when you have that going against you. They have managed to do a good job over the course of the season defensiely, which will help them win a lot of games and make the tourney and finish up as one of the best teams in the big 10 (and they still have a total shot at the Big 10 title, they are 1 game behind Iowa and still get to play em in Champaign). Plus Iowa plays down to their competition and could easily get upset by a team like NU. We also still have a home game against MSU, which is not going to be easy. The Spartans match up well against us and Paul Davis seems to be the one guy Hansen has trouble stopping (ie, Hansen who I think is the best defensive big man in the big 10). That said notice I don't include MSU in that mix. MSU hasn't shown up consistently and I think its because they have lacked some defensive intensity at times because in the long run playing consistent defense will allow you to win a lot of games (to be great you'll need offense as well, but if your team can defend you'll find ways to win often). But MSU (in big games) tends to step up that level of intensity plus Izzo is a master at getting his team going down the stretch. They are the lone team in the big 10 that could make noise and make the final 4, imo. I don't see them doing it, but its a definate possibility. But back to my point, too many Illini fans are over-rating the team based on last year. You guys are probably one of the more over-rated teams in the country right now. Its not a knock cause you all have continued to win, but you aren't the 6th or 7th best team in the country (I give Weber and your guys credit for battling and getting there though). Just like GW isn't the 10th best team in the country. You can't get that distinction when you don't play ANYBODY. Plus cause I'm bias I will continue my note that Iowa (as of today) is the most under-rated team in the country. They still have a lot to prove though. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 05:57 AM) I'm pretty confident Davis isn't going to be here anymore after this season. This team's probably going to fall out of the top 25, after this week. We've lost 3 of 4, and then we go to Wisconsin on Wednesday. I'm not that confident that we can avoid a second two game losing streak. Yes, Davis really got hurt by the injuries to DJ. Who knows what would have happened with Duke and UConn, if he was in the lineup. However, I'm pretty confident to say that we would've turned some of the uglier losses on our record into wins, with him in the lineup (Indiana State, Iowa, Minnesota). The program will probably even take a bigger slide, if they have to fire Davis, because so many of the players are here because of him. However, I think I'm ready for that. This is getting old. Once again, under-rating Iowa. We beat ya guys fair and square -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Wisconsin could be in for a real free fall. You could see it coming the last few games, just not where they need to be to win games. Better get their act together or NIT could be in their future. Ya, talk about one loss setting a team into a total collapse. Of course the overall record is still rock solid, but they will have to end the free fall if they want a tourney birth. They once looked like a lock, but they will have to step up and play reasonably solid down the stretch (not amazing or anything, but solid enough). Cause they have some awful losses. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) All the Illini fans were ripping the Iowa fans for storming the court after they beat the Illini. How do they explain storming the court after a loss to lowly PSU? Don't ask me. We were an unranked team who had beaten freaking IU at home. IU which was ranked 11th in the country and they also stormed the court with a win over than undefeated and highly ranked Illinois. I see no reason to knock fans for doing that. Sure, if we were Duke that would be a problem, but Iowa isn't Duke. That said I am ever so scared for our collapse in Evanston this week. I'm also shocked to see Iowa alone atop the big 10 this late in the season with Alford as coach. Man I hope they somehow keep this up. -

Cripes...Iowa wins by 28. Wow, I am shocked they were able to put up that many points. Obviously they were on fire. I do think one of the big keys to watch is to see if Horner losing the brace helps the rest of the offense. Last year you wouldn't be able to play soft d on Horner, but this year (with the brace) he would basically shoot up misses for ya when left open. Didn't have the night he had against Purdue but just judging by the %'s it looked like he was again shooting the ball more like the old Horner and not the one we've seen most of this season. Haluska with another nice night. He's going to have to continue to grow because if this team is going to do anything next year it will be up to Adam cause the rest of our starters are gone at the end of the year. Which is why thus far this has been just an awesome year. I hope they can keep it up, but if they are able to improve their ball movement on offensive possessions and continue to play tough defense, I think Iowa has a shot. Although I still fear how we've played on the road and we do tend to play down to our level of competition. Still, hell of a win for the Hawks. -

QUOTE(Nokona @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Hour away from Iowa/Mich. Should be a great game. Ya, I wish it were televised. Imo, its the most important game of the weekend. I realize Uconn IU has glamor, but this is two of the 3 best teams in the big 10 (standings wise, cause I don't think Michigan or Iowa are better than MSU) nor do I think the Illini are. That said MSU hasn't shown up every night and they've paid that price. Wish I coudl see the game. It would be a huge win for the Hawks big 10 chances. Gotta protect home court. -
QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I keep hearing how bad it is everywhere yet it is rated pretty damn well on every site and most reviews of it. I know i have zero interest in seeing it. One joke being told just over and over in a different way. I'll pass.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) I am thinking about renting The Aristocrats and it sounds like it will be either a riot, or horrible... Without scanning 80 pages here, what did people think of it??? I've seen more than a few posts in this thread saying how horrible the film was.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) My wife was trying to tell me what he said, but it sounded like a lot of double-speak. The two things I could gather from what she told me were: Dave never really answered the question of why he "vanished" or whatever. and He thinks he wants to return to the show. Ultimately, I don't really care. The time away has cooled me on him, and the show. My moms watching it and she's like deaf (not really but the volume is on max) and he said something about being willing to go back to comedy central. Thats about the only part of the whole thing I heard. I despise day time TV with a passion.
