Watching ESPN this morning they mentioned Edgerrin James said something about him probably not being back in Indy? I assume he's a FA this year, just like Alexander is? -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Please, stop with the Everett talk. He was not a reasonable option at that price. The fact is his slide more than anything else is what pushed Thomas back into the lineup when his ankle was only 70% healed. If Frank hadn't come back the White Sox likely lose the division to the Tribe & miss out on the wild card as well. Ozzie needs to face that reality & acknowledge it. His 40 ab comment was poorly thought out. Both Kenny & JR dropped the ball in their handling of Frank at the very end. I don't blame Kenny for stringing Thomas along til the day they signed Kong because the fact is Thomas remained an option until Kong signed. But both of them should have sought Thomas out (they had the opportunity at the winter meetings) & dealt with Thomas personally. Explain to him how it played out & express their regret they weren't able to find a solution that included him. Thomas is not just any other player. His stature in the league is such that he deserved special consideration. If Kenny or JR want to attempt to mend the fences they should both seek Thomas out now & convince him to show up at the White House gathering. They need to lower the chip on their shoulders for a minute & remind themselves & Thomas that the White Sox might not have been World Champions if not for Thomas re-igniting the offense when they needed it most. Frank dropped the ball for being such a prick during his tenure with the Sox. I realize he's not as bad as some people think, but he isn't this great guy in the clubhouse either. Note: I'm not knocking Frank the person, from the couple times I've met him he seems like a nice enough guy, doesn't mean he's a great guy in the clubhouse. Fact of the matter is he tends to lean more on the selfish side.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) I do believe Gload is your insurance policy for Thome. How dare you even mention Sosa's name, the Nats wouldn't give him up for anything. If Thome were to go down for an extended period of time (or something that was career threatening) I think you'd see the Sox try to plug in someone in-house, but assuming the thing happened early enough in the season, if that didn't work I'm fairly confident that Kenny would go out and try to find someone and realize the move didn't work (thats if its a bad injury). Plus everything depends on where the team sits at the time. Lots of things can happen but we have a few potential in house guys if Thome goes down (they won't be great) but they should be able to do a semi similar job to what Carl did (and if that doesn't work you can find a mediocre DH type bat or better via the trade market). As long as our pitching staff stays healthy and produces (which is an if) I'm confident we'll be back in the playoffs. How far will they go, who knows, it all depends on who gets hot at the right time. That said I think Minny and Cleveland are two of the better teams in all of baseball. I expect two teams in our division to make the playoffs.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Am I the only one who got a little spooked by the articles written today? Not so much what Frank said because I agree with him. All things considered if you have a choice between choosing a healthy Frank or a healthy Thome you're picking Frank. But some of these other articles had me going .. "say it ain't so!" Is it really true that GM's around the league were expecting Thome's body to break down? Is this really why the Cubs passed on the discount he was offering them? Are we looking at the potential of a Gonzo when it comes to Thome's back problems? From a risk assessment standpoint is Thome at $22M/3yr a safer investment than say a combination of Thomas & White/Piazza/ for roughly that same $? In that scenario Thomas remains with the White Sox in much the same role as 2005. What happens if Thome goes on the DL? Who is going to fill that role? Borchy? Sosa? I'm taking the healthy Thome, simply because even when healthy your not getting the Frank of old. I'd definately take the numbers Thome put up two years ago. I'm hoping we get it, but I'm still very cautious about Thome. He's old and coming off an elbow injury, plus he has the nagging back issue.

Thats awesome. Stories like this are one of the things that makes me even prouder to be a Sox fan. Obviously we are coming off the greatest season in franchise history (at least that any of us can remember), but the stuff the Sox do for the community is above and beyond what any other organization I've lived near or followed has done. Its really great how JR and the rest of the ownership, the players, and everyone else try there best to do the little things. I'm glad some of my money went towards this good cause.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 08:30 AM) The total gym seems even more strange. At least the bowflex allows you to do normal excercises. Hence the fact I've never done anything on it. I looked at and got all confused not knowing what the hell I was supposed to do on it. She says it works good though so what do I know.

My step mom has tried both and preferred total gym. I've never used total gym, but I used a bowflex a few times and it just felt awkward compared to free weights.

3 point game again. Reddick hit deuce free throws. -
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Chris is having a great season. But he's also lucky. I've never seen a season where rookies are getting as little P/T as this year. He is playing awesome though.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Sweet first half by Iowa. Purdue has led the whole half, and Iowa looks brutal. At the break, they trail Purdue 33-25. I'd LOVE for this upset to happen Iowa got there s*** together in the 2nd half. Horner looked awesome. This is the Horner I remember from last year. Definately a different player without the brace. Iowa's defense clamped down in the 2nd half and forced some turnovers and they started protecting the ball. Shockingly, Alford did a great job making 2nd half adjustments. They showed quite a few different defenses and were able to confuse Purdue for a good part of the half. Purdue did end up shooting exceptionally against Iowa. Considering our road troubles this year, I take this as a positive as they were able to come back against a poor team on the road, but its still big 10 play and Purdue was shooting ridiculously well for a while. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) As an NU fan, the only teams I really see them having any chance of beating the rest of the year are Minnesota and PSU, and even Penn State already beat us on our own floor. You simply can't underestimate our innate ability to go long periods of time without scoring any points. I've thought that in the past, but you guys find a way to beat the Hawks, like heads said...its what you do. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) IA and WI enjoy a huge scheduling advantage by playing all four BT bottom feeders on the road. IL and MSU play only two of them on the road. In sum, IL and MSU started the season with a two game deficit on IA and WI. Big win tonight, as IL picks up two clicks on Wisky. That said, here is an updated look at the projected order of finish should the top seven teams win out on respective home courts and on the road against the bottom four. Team Wins Losses Remaining Road Games IA 12 4 PU, NW, IN, MN, IL IL 11 5 OSU, MI, MN, MSU MI 11 5 PSU, IA, PU, MSU, OSU MSU 11 5 NW, MN, IA, IN WI 11 5 PU, PSU, NW, MSU, IA IN 10 6 WI, PSU, IL, PU, MI OSU 10 6 IA, MN, WI, MSU, NW Its not gonna be that easy for IA to just win out at home. We still play MSU who whooped our asses and that said I'm scared and pretty much ready for the team to lay a total egg against one of the bottom feeders. Afterall, its why they play the games. That said, I'd love it if your projection worked out. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) Illinois won. Lol, I was just posting that exact same thing. And ya how bout that Big 10, MVC. Its ridiculous how many teams are so high in the RPI between those two conferences. -
QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) Chandler and hinrich? Nice games. The first half the mavericks shot out of their minds. The second half the bulls were just playing smothering defense. To be down by 30 and come back to only lose by four is a feat in itself. I will take holding the mavericks to 40% shooting considering they normally shoot 46%. The bulls had 14 turnovers to their 13 but they were much sloppier than the numbers indicate. Ya, it was a very impressive comeback and had they protected the ball at all in the 1st half they'd have won this game. They also really picked up the defensive intensity in the 2nd half. The mavs should great in the 1st half but they were also getting tons of easy buckets (of course many of those came on fast breaks, which were due to turnovers and just sloppy ball handling). Still I love how the Bulls didn't quit. I'm hoping for .500 on this road trip, but I got a sneaking feeling that they may do better. A .500 trip would be real nice though.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) I can drink beam and cokes all day and all night and never get sick of em. Ill mix vodka but I don't drink it straight. I love SoCo and coke too (try mixing it with root beer). Gin tastes like pine trees, tequila is gross and sour but I'll drink shots of it if offered (or hammered and feeling manly). The funny thing about vodka is that the whole point of it is that it's colorless, odorless, tasteless, and people say they can only drink Grey Goose or other expensive stuff (I think vodka has become trendier than tequila honestly). Well there's no difference to me, I'll drink Popov or Rubinoff or whatever cheap handle is on sale. I can vouge....the man can handle his booze, especially the bud light.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) I like Soco, or some absolute, tough decision. Perhaps even some baccardi SoCo is one thing that just makes me want to throw up. Tastes like cough syrup.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Yeah, that is why I cannot access this site at work (but yet most other message boards I frequent I can get in without issue). That damned surfcontrol is actually causing me a great deal of issues when I try searching the internet to answer a customer's question. Maybe we can figure out what surf control blocks and clean it up so it gets through. I know there was a while where Soxtalk didn't get blocked on like any work firewalls.

When I surf from anywhere but home, I make sure av's and sigs are off.

Soon you will see a few more Chicago Sports forums like this one popping up. Hopefully the Bears one will be up in the next month or so and than a Bulls and Blackhawks one eventually. If anyone is interested in moderating and helping us getting members at these forums, please shoot me a PM. You'd obviously have to be dedicated in helping to attract members and keeping the site active as the toughest time for a website/forum is the creation when you don't have consistent traffic and posts (therefor the mods will have to do their best to keep the place active). If anyone's interested make sure you send me a PM cause I'd love to give ya the opportunity to help out.
