NBA's Most Improved Player

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) Kevin Garnett is a monster defender/rebounder, and he weighs only 220 pounds. Jermaine O'Neal is also an amazing defender/rebounder, and he weighs 242 pounds. Those guys are both Top 10 defenders in this league out of the PF slot and they ain't working with much in the biceps department. They're just slim giants with superior quickness, length, and aggressiveness. You're muscles don't have to be bulging in order for you to contain PFs and alter a ton of shots when you're that tall and that quick. Plus big guys like that don't necessarily look big. I have a buddy thats 6'10 and weighs a ton but you look at him and think he's scrawny. Its just cause its really hard to put mass on for some people when they are huge. Oh and this is the only year Chandler hasn't been in shape when he started the year. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) I'd rather have the real Ben Wallace next year. He's a free agent after this season, right? Ya, but with the season the Pistons are having there is no way they let him go. He'll get a near max or max contract though and I don't know if he's worth that to the Pistons. I'd still do it cause he's an integral part of the best team to play since the Bulls era. On a side note I think Darco hits pretty soon (well at least as an RFA) and there is talk that they are gonna just let him walk. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Jermaine O'Neal is out roughly 8 weeks with a groin injury. Those 7/8 spots probably just got a little bit easier. Its killing me. I finally thought I had my full fantasy squad together and now he's gone for 8 months. It looks like my fantasy winning streak is gonna come to an end.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 02:43 AM) Has anybody heard of a Chris Mihm for Nocioni trade? That's the talk on multiple Laker boards. Let me just say I will buy a gun and shoot John Paxson myself if he makes that deal. I love Noc so I'd like to find a way for it to be someone else, but I'd be all for getting Chris Mihm. Him and Chandler would be a really nice looking front court.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) I will agree to this to an extent. But when he was with the Bears, he also had a hard time with being flexible in his game plan, and that bit us in the ass more times than I could count. Sure, the personel sucked, but there were plays he would run, specifically the 3 yard slant on a 3rd and long, that just made no sense whatsoever. When the Bears went to the playoffs, he was exposed for not being able to adjust. The Offense wasnt spectacular that year, but it wasnt as bad as the next two years. And the Eagles knew what Shoop was running before he was going to run it. I do think he will have some success doing something though, although I think the Raiders is biting off more than he can chew We also had like 3 quarters of Shane Matthews for cripes sake. He had his hands tied because Jauron was basically a lame duck coach in JA's mind and Shoop didn't get the QB he wanted (which was Plummer). Instead he got stuck with Slash. I agree Shoop had flaws, but he was a really smart mind and honestly I'm a fan of conservative offenses because I think it keeps you out of mistakes and thats what can lose you games. I realize it was vanilla, but the Steelers run a vanilla offense (aside from the trick plays) and it works well and really works well when you have a good defense and play in the cold. I know one thing, a lot of people thought we could do no worse than Shoop but Terry O Shea had his head so far up his ass it wasn't even close.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) Real centers ain't 235 pounds. He should have never been put in the C slot, but Paxson thought that it would be a good idea. After 5 games, him and Skiles should have come to the conclusion that he is not cut out to play center at his weight. But no, we had to wait 40 games for these guys to recognize that s***. Its more that the team was stuck when the whole Curry thing went down. We don't have anyone else with that height so they had to try a ton of lineups. I don't blame them one bit. They got put in a tough spot and Tyson is the most likely to be a center on the squad. Part of the problem was Tyson was a lazy ass this off-season (for the first time in his career). I love Tyson's attitude though and while I really slammed him after his low game I'm more than willing to admit all the tools are there for him to be have a mini Ben Wallace like impact on this team. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) f*** a statsheet, though. Three airballs forced ain't gonna show up in a box score. Exactly and Bosh is one of the better scoring power forwards in the league. Tyson played a really good game. Defense isn't a stat that shows up (sure steals and blocks and boards are there) but on the ball defense is huge and Tyson did a nice job of that tonight. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Word. I counted three airballs put up by Chris Bosh when Chandler was guarding him. Those are blocks in my book. Now that he's back in his element at the PF slot, the Bulls should be a hell of a lot better. And Luol Deng? God damn does he continue to impress. Why is he only getting 11 shots per game? I'm liking how he's becoming better and passing when he slashes into the hoop. He's gonna be a monster, imo. I liken him to a 20/5/7 type of guy who will play good defense. One thing i notice is that he needs to bulk out. Guys like Jalen Rose (whose hiddenly strong) seem to push him around a bit when he's playing post defense. His shot has also taken great strides in just one season and I expect it to continue to improve. And ya, Tyson played great defense on Bosh. Bosh looked tired too, but I'm not gonna take anything away from Tyson. He was short on almost all his shots or extra long and it had a lot to do with Tyson. Like I said the 1st night we had this new lineup, its the perfect lineup since it allows Tyson to start the game in the 4 spot and get comfortable (with Harrington playing the 5). Once Harrington leaves you can slide Tyson back to the 5th and its not as big as an issue since he's allowed to get comfortable. It also helps that Toronto, like Indiana, lack two post players and neither of them have a large front court (O'Neal is the man, but Tyson can match up with him). -

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:03 PM) Id say an avg. game well this season it would be one of his better but yeah id say if he produces like he has the last 2 games we might have something here.... wish he would get a couple more blocks. He shut down Bosh when on the court and was dominating in my hustle category (which is a big category). Scrapping and winning lose balls and gaining extra posessions is what its all about and he was all over the place. Had at least one tick tack foul on him. The rebounds weren't as high as usual, but thats because his guy (Bosh) plays more of an outside game, which keeps him a little more off the glass. Definately two of his best games and both were in a row. I'm quietly gaining confidence about this team (and this years chances). We play like we did the past two nights (which is the type of team I expect us to be) and we are a playoff team. No doubt about it in my mind. -
QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) HOTEL RATES Single Occupancy Rate Per Room: Date Rate January 27, 2006 USD 124.50 January 28, 2006 USD 124.50 Additional charges per night, add USD 0.00 for 2nd guest, add USD 12.50 for 3rd guest, add USD 12.50 for 4th guest. Hotel Tax: Rates do not include 15.4% room tax. (subject to change) I'm not sure if this is per day or per 3 day pass? I'm guessing per day. I guess the Hyatt Manager said they overbooked somehow. Not sure but this will be total chaos when people are checking in on Friday. I am calling to complain because like Aboz said they never said anything about how many guests would be in the room when he booked. So for the two extra guests per day thats 25 dollars for day. I do not believe everyone will be paying the $75 dollars extra for the weekend. That 3rd and 4th guest fee is for the room. Most hotels have that type of fee. Its not for Soxfest or shouldn't be. IT doens't say the additional charges are for the tix. The package comes with 4 tix or at least thats the way they advertised it. I know if you are at a hotel with more than 2 people, often times they ask you if there are others. Usually they won't charge but sometimes they do. I know this happened to a few people at last fest (having to pay for the extra guests) but it wasn't for the extra tickets. Hopefully they didn't change it.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) Wow, a Futurama reference that's certainly . . . um, interesting. I loved that show. Still watch it from time to time on Comedy Central. Its a damn travesty that it got cancelled I'm glad someone picked up it though -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) this just made my day lol..... I still dont know why he does so bad for us... that 1 season he had in Denver he was awesome now with us he is a total scrub.... but now he is a scrub in the pro bowl He's a good athlete. I think part of the reason he struggles is that he's had injury problems in Chicago, but he's also (this year) not in an offense that really uses the tight end. Just think, Turner had guys like Wetnight on his squad back in the mid 90's and he used them on ocassion, but the TE just doesn't seem to be a major part of his attack. I actually think Clark is perfectly capable, unless of course Turner wants to make the TE a feature part of this offense. I'd rather use a 1st round pick on a WR or a CB than on a TE because i honestly don't see us using that TE too much. That and this is an insanely deep TE draft. Keep Clark around another year, snag a TE in the 2nd or 3rd round and let them develop. Its not like we are in dire need of cap relief (we have a ton of space and aren't going to use most of it). Plus Clark isn't making a ton of money anyway.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Man I'm still laughing. What's more f***ed up. John Shoop getting a head coach interview or Desmond Clark going to the Pro Bowl? I swear John Shoop has to be some sort of minority, there's no other explanation. Actually I've long said I thought Shoop would make a good coach. He wasn't near the s***ty offensive coordinator everyone made him out to be. Hell, his offense wasn't all that crappy when we got to the playoffs. It was conservative and took advantage of our very strong defense (which is sometimes what you want). You could make a case that with a good defense you don't want to get too agressive because you end up putting your defense in a tough spot, plus you don't give them proper rest. Shoop did have his flaws, but he's a very good mind and a hard worker and I know Jon Gruden is a big fan of his. I think the Raiders could do far worse (and have most of the time) than Shoop. I think he'll prove most Bear fans wrong. The flaw with his offenses were that we absolutely had s*** for talent. Its the truth.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) So the Bulls had a good win tonight. Those 7/8 spots are starting to get competitive b/w Philly, Washington, Chicago, Orlando and Boston. I like our chances still of making it, IF, we can actually start winning a few games on the road, and the likes of Hill and Nelson can get back on the court, and stay there. Look out. If Tyson keeps playing the way he is, the Bulls are by far the best of that group and should earn that final playoff spot. We have depth and defensive talent and the team is really gelling and moving the ball around. This Bulls squad has quite a bit of talent and at least Noc and Duhon would be starting a lot of other places. Plus Songalia is a really really good reserve.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Ha that's happening too much now. Iowa shot 30 to our 8 last night. But I don't think that was because of the refs. We played far more agressive while all you guys did was shoot jumpers. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) Man some B10 teams... :headshake I don't get it. They beat one of the better teams in the country, shouldn't they be excited. Its just like when Iowa beat IU at home. That was the 11th ranked team in the country. For crap sakes its Iowa, what the hell else do they got to be excited about? The growth of corn (ya I'm harsh, but still, they got reason to be excited when their team takes down the 11th rated team in the country). Same goes for Michigan. Thats one of their biggest wins in a long time and against one of the top schools in the big 10 (my opinion is that they are talent wise the best). Plus had they lost that game they'd really have found themselves in a hole in the conference race. Now MSU is in a bit of a hole. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) If the Knicks ever wanted a way to get rid of Isiah without coming out of it looking stupid for putting up with all of his dealings...They've got it. Its probably crap, but who knows. Than again most of the time this stuff comes out I just assume its someone going for money. I assume this in all instances where someone tries suing a wealthy person/company.

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) This is why people go bankrupt. Woods seems like a smart guy but it is still ridiculous. Its invested in real estate so he should be fine. 10 acres of property and all those houses could always get split up and sold. He has nothing to worry about. Its putting all your money into those stupid ass cars and solid gold shandaleirs and all that furniture crap that gets most of the athletes into trouble. That stuff devalues like nobodies business.

Yes, my fantasy team may be salvagable. Now I have to hope Jermaine O'Neals groin/ankle heals quickly.
