QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) They still have both but at this point I'd rather play IU than Minny. I'm with you on that. And Michigan is in a funk since losing its guys. Although it took a ridiculous shooting performance from the Buckeyes to beat em.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Illinois is far from out of it in the big 10. They've given themselves an uphill climb but in the last few weeks I think it's been proven that no one wants to win this conference and there is no such thing as a gimmie game either. They have a decent schedule too. IU and Michigan are down and they get Iowa (who doesn't play all the grand on the road) at home. NU at home should be a lock and I don't see a chance in hell that they knock off the Spartans in East Lansing.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) f***in A. The USA is laying an egg... at least we are going to get all 3 medlas in Snowboarding (even though its a gay sport) and Ohno is going to win all the Speed Skating medals. Ya, its a gay sport alright. Why don't you try it cause I guarantee you couldn't come close to doing the stuff they do. So how about instead of slamming a sport, you just STFU.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) All 4 American competitors are in the snowboarding halfpipe final. US will own the snowboarding events. Too bad Terje is older cause he's the best snowboarder ever...BY FAR too. Alta, or however you pronounce it, is about the only foreign border that even stands a chance against these guys (rides flow though and he's about the only top pro that I know rides them).

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I still say we will see multiple teams tied for the Big Ten Championship at 11-5. The Illini are not out of it yet. Wouldn't shock me one bit.

Bulls win at Clippers
They played a great game. Hinrich was jabbing at Cutino Mobley most of the game and with the team up 2 and time expiring Hinrich basically told him he was gonna take it on him and did exactly that, drew the foul and hit both free throws. Hinrich totally schooled Cassel as well. He missed quite a few open jumpers but was awesome down the stretch. Chandler was a beast on Brand and had a few sick blocks. It was sweet, I thought I was gonna see a blowout but instead I am now 2-0 watching the Bulls at Staples this year. Badass seats too, was sitting 6 rows behind the Bulls bench.

Lions finally hire Martz as OC
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) Good point on Faulk, but take a look at what Stephen Jackson does next year in St. Louis and you'll see my point. Martz has simply got tired of the running game, he just wants to pass all day now. Thats cause he was on his own as the head coach. Now that he's an OC the head coach (just like Vermeil would do back when he was with the Rams) will just have to get on his ass and make sure the team runs the ball enough. I've long said Martz is an amazing OC and he would have been an amazing coach, but the ego gets in the way of him being an amazing coach because he ends up getting too gutsy and leaves the run game behind which leads to his QB getting killed. I think the Lions have done a very good job this off-season and they do have some skilled players on the team. They still have a way to go, but I think they are the 2nd or 3rd best team in the division right now (ahead of the Pack and fighting with the Vikes).

Sox visit to White House may be on Monday
QUOTE(beck72 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 06:19 AM) Didn't ESPN magazine write a very negative piece on him a year or two back? If so, I could see why he wouldn't talk to them after he's had some success It may have been negative but it was also true. It was a sad story and he had a rough childhood and a really rough go round with the Angels, but for the most part it was his fault (although his parents sure as hell didn't help him out and they probably were the cause of the whole fiasco, but somewhere the blame still lies on Bobby because he wasn't a kid anymore). That said everyone in baseball knew if he could ever straighten his head (and of course stay healthy) the kid had everything it took to be special. The Angels finally got sick of him and Kenny wisely picked him up and took the shot. I have no idea whether the Sox realized that Jenks started to get his head on straight after meeting his wife or if they just dumb lucked into it. My guess is they probably more made the move simply because they knew the type of upside the kid could have. Not many guys have the breaking pitches he has as well as the heater he has. Of course command, health and being mentally strong are the other requirements necessary to be a great pitcher and it looks like maybe he's figured those out. I sure hope he has cause he has a shot to have a very very very special career. That said it could all blow up with an arm injury or anything else, but that could happen to anyone. I'm sure pulling for the kid though, he's gone through some really tough times in life and seems to have pulled out of them for the best.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 09:01 AM) I'll name a few, once people start naming some more I'll remember more. Little Mosters Richie Rich Little Big League Rookie of the Year(I dont care if it was Cubs, I LOVED that movie) Home Alone You got to include sandlot. And yes, I too absolutely loved Rookie of the Year. I think the only movie I liked more was Sandlot. That movie was just awesome cause it was a lot like the way me and my buddies were when it came to playing baseball as kids. Never was a big Richie Rich fan, although I saw the movie. But the others rank highly along with Red Dawn for me. I freaking loved that movie. 3 Ninja's and Ninja Turtles were also on that list and I must admit I think I saw Sidekicks a few times (with the Great Chuck Norris). Oh and I loved almost all Steven Siegal movies (especially Under Siege).

QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 12, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) Talking about "it" reminded me that while me and my friends were shopping yesterday, we saw the movie "little monsters" on sale on DVD. I haven't seen a mention of this movie in like 10 years, but I remember watching it a ridicuous amount of times growing up. What a weird movie, anyone remember it? Ya, must have watched that movie 10 or 15 times when I was a kid.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) Funny you mention IT. It's one of the few horror movies which legitimately scared me growing up. I've always felt the films which seemingly attach horrifying circumstances with people I could connect to are most freighening. Don't know what it is about the Exorcist--perhaps the location in Georgetown, or how the possession didn't really kill anyone (unless you count the Priest.), but it never had the effect on me other films did. Three movies, reflecting on my childhood, absolutely terried me: Candyman, IT, Pet Sematary. Haha, Candyman and It are the two that stand out to me from my childhood. It more so than any of the others. Exorcist was later on but got me. Definately understand why the Exorcist may not get some though for the exact reasons you say. One movie I've been meaning to see that I've heard is scary as hell is the Omen. I've seen bits and pieces of it before, but never the whole thing. Oh and the worse horror movie I ever saw was Blair Witch. I have no idea how, but everyone in my high school was going around saying it was the scariest movie ever and there were stories of kids our age walking out of the movie. In fact while watching it two people next to us got up and left all scared, but how anyone thought that was scary is beyond me. Awful and naushus is all I could think of when it comes to that piece of garbage.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) I can't see five Valley teams getting in. There are too many games left plus the tournament. At least one of those teams will weed themselves out. The other thing the Valley will have to watch is the Big 10. If Michigan or IU keeps diving, both of them could find themselves on the outs (both teams were pretty much locks a week or so ago). Than you have Wiscy who may have found its stride. The Big 10 could get 1 or 2 less teams due to a late collapse opening things up. Than again you have the Big 12 and Kansas stepping up and potentially a team like the Aggies and of course CU. So other teams will find a way in. It was big that the Zags beat Stanford since Stanford right now is a team on the bubble (that said I expect them to finish strong and get in).

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) I'd love to see Duke and Gonzaga play. I'd love to see Redick and Morrison light it up, going back and forth. Both of those guys just find ways to get the ball in the hole and are damned impressive in doing so. Also, I know I will get fried for this, but I enjoyed Vitale tonight. He was much more subdued tonight than when he broadcasts an ACC or Big Ten game. He left a lot of his schtick at home and I thought he was good. ` Agreed. I think he gets too crazy when it comes to ACC games, but against the Zags it seemed like a different atmosphere for him and it left him a little less subdued and a whole lot more entertaining. I also think it would be fun to see a Redick/Morrison match up. Of course I think Duke would win simply because they are more suited to play some defense.

Official Soccer/World Cup Thread
USA has quite a bit of talent. They will be losing some of the long time leaders from the prior cup teams, but at the same time we will be stepping up a notch in terms of talent and some of our younger players who excelled in the world cup last year (it was some of those guys coming out parties) will be a little more seasoned and ready. Plus we have some of the best goalkeeping in the world, in fact, I think aside from Germany we have the best goal keeping in the world.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) So with the Bears win over UNI, there is now a real possibility the valley can get 5. We're going to have 5 in the top 35 in rpi for sure come tomorrow and maybe 5 in the top 30 depending on how far Missouri State jumps up. I believe in like the last 10 years, the highest rated rpi team to be left out is 34. I'm rooting for the Valley to get 5 teams in. I think all of those teams are capable of beating one of the teams from the major conferences. Hell, they've already proven it since quite a few teams in the valley have wins over major conference teams like Iowa, Indiana and others. I think one of my favorite things about college basketball is seeing the upsets in the tourney and seeing how far those cinderella's can go (well aside from watching my team play a game or two in the tourney; Hopefully). Iowa was #9 in RPI this week. My guess is they will stay around that area despite a loss to NU (thanks to the road win against IU).

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Anyone know how to remove the spyware named isearch Desktop search? It hijacks your browser and brings you to advertisements. This older version of Spysweeper doesn't remove it in full. There's actually a file that gets downloaded into your programs that needs to be removed. Its hard to remove though and you actually got to download something to get rid of it. I had something very similar to what you had. It would always give me advertisments on IE (even when I freaking shut IE down). Took me a while and basically myself clearing out every damn file I had not scene before (one of which happened to be my sound card driver and DVD Codecs, but I was able to fix that). If you google it you can probably find what the exact programs you need to remove are. I had a few different ones that ended up causing it all (it won't just allow you to delete them, you kind of have to go around it). The nice part is, since I blew up my computer trying to get rid of it, I've yet to have a pop up (any damn piece of spyware has long been wiped off my machine).

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) It's similar to how people typically regard The Exorcist as freightening. Suppose elements within both movies appeal to general horror movie audiences. Honestly, the 'scariest' part for me in the Shining was the beginning theme music. The combination of strange synthesizers/sound effects and the setting work well together. The Exorcist is the one movie that flat scares the hell out of me. Simply because I've done a little reading and listened to people detail some supposed true exorcisms and well quite frankly the fact that some of the stuff seen in the movie has been documented by the church as to happen (not in the setting of the movie or anything, but they claim some of the symptons of the girl have happened). For example...IIRC there was a person supposedly posessed in a farm in Iowa (I think thats where it was) and the person ended up throwing up this film all over the church and it was documented into the records. I have no idea how true it was and it was part of an art bell series on exorcism I heard a few years back (back when he was doing the show full time). It was interesting stuff and after hearing all about that I saw the movie for the 1st time (when they brought it back to theatres) and I must say I had trouble sleeping. Not since I saw "it" when I was like 8 or 9 had I been that scared, and yes, I realize that was a totally lame movie, but it scared the hell out of me and my friends (first horror I ever saw).

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) You must have some high expectations. Neither are genre redefining, but compared to the utter crap labeled as horror these days, I had no complaints. Both surpass High Tension--which was heralded as TEH AWESOME. One problem with Land: I didn't really appreciate the evolution-of-Zombie's angle (which Day also featured), or Romero's political agenda, but it proves a worthy addition to his series. I should say for Land of the Dead I had higher expectations. It was basically a c- movie but it did have entertaining parts of it and some cool action scenes. But Devils Rejects was just a disgusting movie. Gore doesn't bother me one bit but the movie was ridiculously dumb and the people in it were just entirely ridiculous. I think I got dumber watching that crap. Thankfully I netflixed it and didn't pay an actual fee. I will never watch a Rob Zombie movie again.

Watched the Great Raid tonight. I really enjoyed the movie. I like historical/war movies and I have no idea how realistic this movie was, but I thought it was a neat story and didn't seem quite as over-dramatized as some stories. Plus I haven't seen many recent movies about the Japanese/US part of the war and never saw one that detailed the underground movement from the Phillipino's.
