  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Good call my ass. It's pure speculation based on nothing. Jenks had something in his personal life to deal with. Can't we allow him that without question what that issue was or speculating that he's binge drinking or something? Damn. I agree. Obviously Jenks has had prior issues, but in his year with the Sox I have heard nothing but good things about his work ethic and attitude. Supposedly when he missed that final year with the Angels and got married to his wife he started to calm down and make sense of things. Obviously something could have came off and he could have fallen off the wagon, but I'm not about to speculate it. He's in the spotlight the entire season as are all players and I have zero problem with them staying out of it in the off-season. Hell, I'd prefer it cause usually spotlight in the off-season is a bad thing.
  2. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 05:07 AM) Any guesses as to what Ozzie's response might be? I think the whole visit to the WH thing is tired. I wonder how many athletes really WANT to go as opposed to feeling like they have to. Most of the time the Pres has no idea who anyone on the team is and that's ok, the Pres should not have enough time to follow that Timo is not on the team any more. I can tell you only from my personal perspective, but I'd love to be able to meet the president in a more personal setting. Obviously there will be the photo op, but the players will still get to talk to the president. Thats regardless from my feelings cause if Clinton was president I still would have been honored to be invited to the White House and get to talk to the big cheese.
  3. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Painter's going to get that program turned around eventually. And my roommate/manager said Davis was actually really sick. He went out to his house, and he said he looked white. I have no idea what to believe anymore. Trust me, Davis isn't the type of person to go out and fake being sick to not be at a game. If he resigned tomorrow that would be another story/ I don't think thats the case and I think he'll be there the rest of the year (unless you see the team totally play without any effort the next couple games). But he's definately a lame-duck coach cause he's gone (unless they somehow shock everyone and make a HUGE tourney run). First they got to get back on track and pick up a few more wins to ensure they make the tourney.
  4. Zags have taken the lead on a quick run to start the 2nd half.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) Ha, it's at hall and they've been hot as of late, plus uconn has nova on monday, I thought that could be one of those danger games. Anywho, UNI down 6 with less then 3 to go. Cmon Bears Can't wait for that Uconn Nova game. One of the best matchups all season.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) I've heard that Calipari and Few have talked about scheduling a game with each other late in the season for that exact reason that you talked about, makes a lot of sense if you think about it. My problem with the zags is their lack of caring on defense. They are as talented as anyone in the country on offense but when you don't care about the defensive side of the ball you just aren't going to go very far. No doubt the defense is what gets them. I think some of that comes down to the SOS because they don't play those tight games were defense becomes a huge factor since most often they can score at will. However when you play against other talented teams that have good defenses you will learn that you can't put up a gazillion points every night and your team will quickly learn the importance of getting back and playing defense. If Gonzaga could get there guys to have some defensive intensity they would be hard to beat. Its not going to happen this year, but I think Few has to find a way to improve that defense. Than again if St. Mary's and Santa Clara are every good at the same time as Gonzaga it could make for a pretty fun conference. Consider you have Stockton/Dickau,etc out of Gonzaga and of course Nash from Santa Clara.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) I have absolutely no problem with their fans, I have a problem with their team. They won't make it to the second weekend come tourny time. They need to schedule more tough games late in the season to help prepare them for the tourney. Their conference isn't as bad as some of you say (last year St. Mary's was a pretty strong club), but without them its just a bit better than the Big West. Here's a question, could the Zags enter a bigger conference. Maybe find a way into the Pac 10 to play basketball (I know its highly unlikely) but having a tougher schedule could make them so much more ready for the big games because I do think they are one of the better teams in teh country, but I agree with your assesment on them not going deep. That said with Batista and Morrison they got as good of a 1-2 as anyone. Its just the lack of tight games and how to finish those type of games that will kill them come tourney time when aside from the 1st round (well most of the time for top 1-3 seeds) you are playing a pretty damn good team every game.
  8. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) What else do they have to do? They are in Spokane. I'm sure there are limited options there. Supposedly they started lining up for gameday last Monday. If so, these are some sick f*cks. Of course there is nothing else to do, but that doesn't mean the place doesn't have an awesome atmosphere. Isn't that what college basketball is all about? If you ask me, I think Gonzaga and the passion their students have is just one of the reasons why college basketball is so great. Hell, this year college basketball has passed the pro's in my mind. I have grown sick of the whiny babies in the NBA. Sure the talent is better in the NBA, but in college you have diehard fans and more importantly players out there busting there complete asses all the time. Also you don't get much showboating nor is there near the super star treatment, although I realize most non Duke fans would disagree with that.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) Why are their fans dumb? Looks like a pretty damned good atmosphere there to me. Seriously, I'm jealous. I think they have as good of fan support as any team in the country (in terms of at games). Obviously there are tons of teams with more overall fans, but Zag fans are passionate and the students are at all the games.
  10. Beltre for sure as far as hitters. He has explosive upside, the others don't. Burnett/Freddy is a wash. Burnett could have a monster year but Freddy (if healthy) will be consistent and solid so I'd go Freddy.

Caught Land of the Dead yesterday and it was bad Devils Rejects was also horrid
  12. Definately too early for this, but I won't be missing a US world cup game. I followed the cup avidly 4 years ago and a little when they were in France and the US befor that. Last time was fun...the US got so close to getting past Germany.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Yes, Tinsley and Fizer were both juniors. Are you thinking of Dedric Willoboughy? I honestly can't remember back too far? Could have been him. Be sorry you missed out on that tourney run cause Kato was a total beast. Of course it wouldn't be ISU if they didn't eventually blow a big lead to UCLA and lose (so maybe it is good you don't remember it). At least you got Vroman in the NBA
  14. Hang in there SF1. Ironically enough my family just found out yesterday that my grandma is going to pass away. They told her she has anywhere from 2 days or 2 weeks. The good news is she is peaceful and she's had all of us around here at the hospital. I'm just hoping it stays peaceful. They found cancer in her liver yesterday. She had beaten breast cancer for 10 years too. Hopefull your grandma can pull through
  15. I think they were all from a poster on WSI. Really funny stuff.
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:38 PM) It was Fizer's final year. Eustachy got the T. ISU lost to Michigan State in Auburn Hills, which would be similar to making Duke play UCONN in Boston. Wasn't Tinsley on that team as well? And who was on that squad that went down to UCLA. I remember Kato having an insane run of blocks, but can't think of who else was on the squad.
  17. Thats what all coaches are in Oakland. Its why they can't get a good coach. Al Davis steps aside and lets his guys do there thing and they'd be alright.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Rex can attest to this. Vaden's really hasn't looked good at all this year. He's really become the new Bracey, except he doesn't take 50 shots a game. He doesn't really go into the paint with that much success. He's either completely on or completely off. That's why I was surprised you thought he had a good game today, I wasn't all that pleased with his performance. He didn't take many shots and I don't pay attention to whose playing defense for you guys, cause well quite frankly I don't think you guys have much any defense. I thought Iowa just executed poorly in the 2nd half when you went on your run and its long been the Hawks problem. Sometimes they take quick shots and go away from quick passes and working the clock. That said anytime he had a little daylight he seemed to hit the 3. It seemed to me as if he didn't take enough shots, but I think the only IU games I've watched this year were the Iowa games and than two games early in the season. Aside from that I've only seen highlights or short parts of games.
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) Just curious....being in California, how'd you end up an Iowa fan? Did you have family go there or something? My dad grew up on a farm in Iowa and his entire family (aside from him) still lives there so we go there once or twice a year. All my cousins (they are all older than me) went to Iowa so whenever I was back the Hawkeyes were all they ever talked about and my dads a big fan as well. Its nice, its the lone team my dad and I both root for. By far my favorite all around college (ie I root for the BBall and Football team). ND I solely follow the football team and of course Fullerton for baseball.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) My dad told me that LaFrentz had always said Kansas, but had left the door open to Iowa. Hinrich comitted to Iowa State. I totally agree with you about the schools need to work harder in-state. Any coincidence Iowa is doing so well with Horner, Haluska, Brunner, Thompson, Henderson....all from Iowa? That team lost to Hampton. The Fizer team was robbed with their bracket placement. I don't quite figure out how you're in the running for that last one seed and you end up in the same bracket as the best team in the nation. Which Clone team was it that lost to the Spartans in the final four or elite eight (forget which one). It was held in Michigan and was all Spartan fans and at the end of the game (it wasn't Floyd but your guy that got canned a few years back, forget the name) finally got a T which ended the game. The other big game I remember was when UCLA was still pretty dominant and they had a total comeback on ISU and in the end hit a runner to win (that was another solid squad). Surprisingly Iowa and ISU have both had some good squads relatively recently (last 10 years or so). And I am so damn thankful for Haluska transferring. If we didn't have him we wouldn't be in 1st in the big 10 and we'd probably be the worse team in the big 10 next year (since we are losing everyone). All I know is Haluska will have to get even better next year and Freeman/Thompson and company are going to have to develop in a hurry. It would also be nice if Alford could bring in some big time recruits. If only Hinrich stuck around playing ball at ISU or Iowa. He's already my favorite player in the NBA...and that would only make it greater.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Well no one had an answer for him at the beginning of the season. People certainly didn't have an answer for him. Come conference play people have figured him out. He needs to improve his passing and imo, take it up stronger when he shoots. He did do nice against Iowa, but at the same time most of the game the Hawks had him totally contained. Plus Hansen was in foul trouble for part of the game and we all have seen how Hansen can control Killingsworth. Why don't they use Vaden much? The only times I've seen IU play he seems to always light things up but they don't seem to draw many shots up for him. He's a big guy who is strong enough for post moves and can shoot the hell out of the ball from beyond the arc. I really like that guy (even got his name right this time).
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) It's ridiculous. I was at the library studying for a test a little bit before and after the game, and it's absolutely the only thing I heard being talked about. Jay Wright sounds like he would be a good candidate. This is just me putting this out here, but do you think Mark Few would be considered? He's not going to get any farther at a place like Gonzaga. Apparently, Andy Katz was saying this morning that, if the job were to become vacant Tom Crean (Marquette) and John Beilein (Pittsnoggle U) are at the top of the list. And I guess Majerus apparently said this would be his "dream job" during the game? If Majerus goes anywhere...I-O-W-A. But Rick isn't going back to coaching unless he sheds some pounds and quick. I love when Majerus does Hawkeye games cause he always says nice things about the team. That said Alford is finally doing what I thought he was capable of. Will it be an abberration or has he simply learned a lesson about quality individuals and how much they can help a program. I think the whole Pierce debacle taught him something. Its too bad Recker got banged up a few years back cause that squad with Evans, Dean Oliver, and Recker was seriously one of the best Hawkeye teams I ever saw and was capable of a lot.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Washington with a nice win over the Bruins. Bruins may have lost, but I'd love to see them with a healthy squad. Howland is definately the man to bring the glory back to Pauley Pavillion. I'm glad too, that way UCLA can have something to shove into USC fans faces (in case anyone doesn't know by now...I despise every sports team in LA but UCLA).
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) That makes two of us. I see 2 or 3 in the sweet 16, but beyond that the only team I could see going is MSU and that won't happen unless they start playing like they can. They are hands down the most talented team in the conference.
