The Arms Race: Lefty Reliever Candidates
The Arms Race: Lefty Reliever Candidates By Andrew Dunn February 27, 2006 Soxtalk.com There are not as many questions for this White Sox team heading into the 2006 season as there have been in the past. However, one question most White Sox fans will be asking themselves is, “who will be the second left-handed reliever?” They will be replacing Damaso Marte (traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Rob Mackowiak). At this stage, based on comments by the coaching staff, it appears that the Sox plan on carrying a second lefty, especially with early indications hinting that the club would like to carry 12 pitchers...MORE

Anyone order Pizza on-line yet?
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) There's a Little Caesars right down the street from my house. I always laugh when I see the person standing on the corner holding a large sign that says "Hot and ready". They couldn't pay me enough to do that. I've gotten their pizza when we need something fast and cheap. Mostly I just stop for the crazy bread though. Its about the only pizza I eat. A buddy of mine's dad runs/owns two of them and if I want Pizza I just show up and mooch a free pie. Of course we make them different and throw assloads upon assloads of toppings on them and make them custom to our liking. But if it weren't for that I wouldn't eat there. Although it is a hell of a deal.

IU Coaching News
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) At this point i don't even think it's IU's decision, it's Alford's decision. If he wants to leave Iowa, it's his, and if he doesn't, IU will look elsewhere. That's just how i see it going down, for better or for worse. Trust me...he's gonna be long gone at Iowa. I am starting to think its gonna be a big time blessing in disguise. Just look at what he has next year...we are going to be terrible.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) Gary Oldman, right? He's always the bad guy in movies. We watched that a few weeks ago for the first time in a while. They don't make those good, cheesy action movies like that anymore. Thats why I think Steven Siegal needs to come back. UnderSiege...one of the greatest action flicks of all time, imo.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Losing Frank Thomas was not bad news. He is no longer a productive everyday major league baseball player.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) Finally.. after the 38,436th time you've said so.. I think I'm starting to believe you. It's all a hoax....just like crop circles.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) The Herd and GM Kevin Towers of the the Padres just put their stamp of approval on Kenny doing what he had to do. The Herd made the great point of rarely do you see a GM with enough guts to call out a star player who publicly rips an organization. He applauded KW for doing this. In fact he played KW's comments a couple of times. Towers, a good friend of KW, said that KW is a competitor and has heard enough from Frank. Good stuff. I'm with you on this. Although I still think the wisest thing would have been to keep his mouth shut, but at the same time, I realize people are sick of Thomas always attacking and never getting attacked. Well that has stopped and my guess Frank is finally going to think twice before opening his mouth.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) In my mind, he is gaining favor at this point. Obviously we don't know who the true candidates are and may never know completely, but I am liking Crean more and more. Not totally against Alford, but not pro-Alford either. I'd rather lose Alford and get Crean. Of course I'm just hoping for McDermott after IU takes Alford away.

Official NBA Discussion Thread
QUOTE(Spiff @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 06:46 AM) He's been really good the last few games, after Al and Kendrick went down. 5, 7, and 5 o-rebs the last three games in his 3 double-doubles. I was never a huge fan of him in college because while he put up good numbers he never led his team anywhere. They always got bounced early in the Big East and NCAA tourneys. But he's got a good basketball IQ and he's a good role player. And you guys beat the Lakers. Pierce had a monster game with Kobe fouling him with 3 seconds left. I loved it.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) At this point, I only care about this for 1 reason: our entire team is going to get asked about it. For days, this is all we're going to hear about. When the A's, the team that annoys us the most, comes to town, again, this is all we're going to hear about. I really hope this doesn't cost us games. That's the only thing I care about. We got through the Magglio thing last year because the team rallied around each other and let Ozzie deal with it. I just hope our locker room, which has had a lot of turnover, is strong enough to do so again. If our team holds together through this, I could care less what KW and Frank have to say to each other, and Frank will still get a nice statue about 510 feet from home plate some day. But if this costs us games...i will be very, very, very angry about it, and that anger will be directed at KW, since he's the one escalating it now. Hey if this is all they are asked, than I'll be happy. In fact getting asked questions about a guy on another team should shield away the pressure from the current team (ie the Sox). Just my 2 cents.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) I get all that. But you used the word "slammed". I don't agree with that at all. I think at this stage of his career all that stuff was a direct slam at everything JR did to help him. Just my 2 cents.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) To be honest, I don't quite understand why people are surprised to see things unfold like this. Frank Thomas has always been this way...from day one. Now, I know Steff tells me otherwise, and, I really do tend to believe her, but, Frank has seemingly gone out of his way to alienate himself from the White Sox fan base from the get-go. Now, I can't quite pinpoint the when and where, but, for awhile there, it finally seemed to turn around. Around the 2000 season, Frank seemed to have finally endeared himself to this fan base. I don't know if that has anything to do with the Sox front-office letting off Frank about his adopting a "leadership" role, but, Frank finally seemed to come around. It really is disappointing to see things unfold like this here at the end, but, I'm genuinely not surprised. He has been an egotistical prick since his major-league call-up. The Frank Lovefest that happened here again around 2004 would have to be the exception throughout the course of his career. Also, the bad relationship between Frank and Kenny has been known for quite some time; these two have never seen eye-to-eye, and, I'm sure Frank could have had his wish to be traded come to fruition if Kenny could have found the right package. As far as I know, the Thome move was not the first in an attempt to finally rid this team, this clubhouse, of Frank Thomas. Disappointing? Yes. Shocking? No. Frank and his time with the Sox is now full-circle. He came into this organization alienating himself from the fan base, from his teammates, from the Sox brass--the noted exception would have to be, of course, Jerry--and that is how he is going to leave it. Believe it or not, Frank, you STILL are not above the team-concept in baseball. It looked like you understood that for awhile there, but, your true colors have shown themselves once again. Its no secret the only reason Frank was here during Kenny's time was because of JR. Kenny has long wanted Frank gone and he's not the only one in the org that has felt that way. That said Kenny seems to treat his fans well and I know I'll root for him in that A's uniform despite the fact that he's royall ticked me off over the recent years by his selfishness and me attitude. I'm convinced he's playing only for the record books at this stage and because of it his average has suffered.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) He slammed the team? Care to be specific? I'll be the first one to admit that I'm not a Frank fan, especially for the way he's handled himself as a teammate and a member of the team. All that said he's a decent person, but not a good teammate and part of me is glad the truth is finally coming out cause so many people pretty much thought he could do no wrong. I also think he's going to prove why we got rid of him in the first place. Ie, the fact that he hasn't been healthy in years.

Kenny Fires Back At Frank
A War of Words: Kenny Fires Back at Frank By Jason Gage Soxtalk.com Would anyone believe that Frank Thomas isn’t a member of the White Sox anymore? The future Hall of Fame slugger and the single greatest player to play for the White Sox has done nothing but berate and slam his former team since joining the Oakland A’s. The War of Words had been a one army battle, until this weekend when GM Kenny Williams fired back...More

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Nice work fellas. Looks awesome! One thing, and this isn't a complaint in any way. Any chance we can get a link back to the front page from the forums? It's purely a convenience thing, so its obviously no big deal. For instance, clicking on the banner (like the one currently on the top of the page) will take you directly to the front page instead of the forum listing. Just a suggestion. Either way, it looks fabulous! Ya, what would you all prefer. Do you like it how right now the banner on the main page takes you back to the main page, yet the banner on the message board takes you back to the main part of the board? Or would you like them both to take you back to the main page (the news page). I could also put a Front Page link next to the FutureSox.com link that would take you back. You all tell me what you think would be best and consider it done. It was one of those things I forgot to do in the process of getting the site up.

Just wrote a commentary on this, really glad Kenny stood out and shut Frank up. If Frank's smart he'll be quiet cause the more he blathers like this the worse his chances get for the hall.
