  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) Iowa fans need to enjoy this season because it is going to be a while before they have a Big 10 title contender Tell me about it...we lose everyone but Haluska. I do think Freeman will be a really really good player by his junior year though, but its gonna be a rough season next year unless some guys come out of nowhere. That said Alex Thompson and Freeman are two guys Alford seems to rave about and thinks will do big things next year. Freeman the fresh and Thompson the Sophmore. Plus we got Haluska coming back. I still don't see a way they could possibly compete for anything but the middle of the pack (at best) next year. But I'm just going to enjoy this year.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 07:40 AM) nope, and im not the only one. He was being sarcastic. Qwerty and I typically agree for the most part on the Bulls. Only major disagreements involved Curry whose gone. I'm also with him in the fact that I don't want Nazr or Harrington because I don't think they are what we need in terms of a low post player. Ie, they aren't very good in the low post. Harrington is having himself a pretty darn good year though.
  3. QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) If we draft gay i see one of deng/nocioni getting traded before gordon. We would be too power forward/ small forward heavy to carry three small forwards. We would get the most value for deng, persoanlly i would want to get rid of him just about last on the team. Deng is too unique of a player, imo. He's very smooth and can finish and his shot is so much better this year than it was last year and I expect that to continue. The kid is so young and I think he is the one Bull with a shot to be an all around great player and consistent all star (I love Hinrich, but Deng has a shot to be a guy you build a team around, imo). I have no idea if he'll live up to it, but I'd hate getting rid of him.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) I'm going to show Ashley these posts, and you're all going to be sorry. Jason, you're a lazy POS with these sigs. You beat us Jan 7. Also, the sig comes down the 25th when we beat you. And if it doesn't it stays up 2 more weeks. If not I'll put up a sig of Illinois?? And ya, I'm ballsy...I got faith in my Hawks.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) You're a smart, smart man. Next time your with Krush's girlfriend you better say that. If Iowa beats Illinois at Assembly (big if) I'm gonna make sure to tell Krush that I say Iowa >>> infinity than Illinois Speaking of which, Brian, your getting that sig this week. I just realized I had forgotten.
  6. QUOTE(CluelessJoe1919 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Is this guy pathetic, or what? HIS basketball talk is pathetic. Hammerhead may be more biased than most when it comes to Chandler and I realize a lot of people may disagree with him on his feelings on that, but he does understand the game.
  7. QUOTE(CluelessJoe1919 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Gordon has a lot to learn. But, he's an exceptional shooter and I don't agree that he's not a good passer. You guys surely do take your basketball seriously here, doncha? Many of you make complete asses of yourselves. I'm sorry, but Ben has one of the highest assist to turnover ratio's in the NBA and thats coming from a guard. He is easily one of the worse passing guards in the entire NBA. I'm not saying he can't improve, but I'm not gonna be nice. I think he's a good shooter. Last year he was a great shooter. Of course he has a very poor shot selection and this year he seems to pass open jumpers to drive in and than jack up far harder shots. I'm not a Gordon fan though. Have no problem with Gordon the person cause I think he's a hard working guy, but I don't think he's the type of player I want. I'd like more Hinrich's and less Gordons (healthy Hinrich's cause the one we have now's shot is off due to an injury). More specifically I want Pierce but that won't happen. Hey qwerty, I got a question for ya. Lets say we get the 2nd pick and Aldridge goes 1. If we draft Gay are either him or Deng able to start at the 2 with Hinrich at the point? I'd think Deng would be capable but I don't know enough about Gay. I guess the only flaw with Deng is that he would have to improve his dribble. Although with a true point like Hinrich we could get away with a not as great dribbler at the 2. Actually if we didn't get Aldridge I'd love Gay, Deng and Hinrich in the backcourt with us signing or finding a big to go with Chandler while Harrington, Songalia, and Sweetney come off the bench. Than you have Noc and Gordon (although you'd probably have to deal Gordon to help get the big) and Duhon (he could be the guy thats dealt). Wouldn't be too bad if you ask me, cause I think Gordon is a quality guy to have on the bench.
  8. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) We will definitely be starting over, with a draft coming up hopefully in early March. I want to change the format a little too, with 5 keepers per team and no limitations (if we're still going after 3 years, I want to add a rule that states that you have to either trade or let go anyone that you kept all 3 years, but that's it). I'd like to do a minor league draft like I'm pretty sure you guys did in the past, but I'm not entirely sure how those work. Open spots look like they will be few and far between, if there even are any. I've already got the league more than half-filled, and I just came up with the league this afternoon! I'm getting a lot of interest from previous players, and it looks like it should be a kickass league. We never came through on teh minor league draft (s***ty comissioner to blame...ie Me). My thoughts are everyone gets an email addy and we'll have a draft order (we'll do the opposite of the start of the main draft). So lets say I have the 1st pick in the main player draft well in the 1st round of the minor league draft I'd pick last. And than in the 2nd round of the minor league draft I'd pick 1st and we could just email it around till all the selections are made. With the major league portion being done live on yahoo.
  9. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) LOL, it almost needs its own thread at this point SIU >>> Illinois
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Just out of curiousity, what type of job is Michigan State? > IU
  11. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) It's just funny that he would find it appropriate to point out that IU hasn't won a title in 19 years. That's just funny to me, you know, coming from a fan of a school that's never won one. But maybe that's just me. All that said...right now I'm taking the Illini over IU if I were a head coach. Its just like how USC (a powerhouse football program) wasn't able to hire anyone while they were down, yet if they went out now they'd get whoever the hell they wanted. Everyone in LA b****ed and screamed when half the coaches turned down the job and they offered it to Pete Carrol. Look at Notre Dame, the school went down and its had far greater football success relatively recently than IU has had in basketball, yet they weren't able to get Meyer and other guys and the 1st go round they had to settle for Willingham. Luckily they found Weiss, an alum who is coming to his perfect situation. Plus ND and USC are easily as great in football as IU is in basketball. All this means is that while tradition helps, it is not the end all.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) You could always, you know, rebutt my legitmate points. But I figured not, wouldn't expect that out an Indiana fan (and I find it ironic that an Indiana fan of all people would tell somebody to go back into their hole). Why can IU pay more money? Is it just cause they are a more storied team and my guess is they have a bigger athletic budget or something? Its not like Villanova doesn't get big time fan support and they are in a major city. Plus being Villanova is a private school (which means far greater donations from alumni and obviously greater tuition) I'd have to think they would be the team with a potentially bigger budget.
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) Why does Alford make sense? He's got a worse Big Ten record than Davis. The only thing he's got going for him is that he went here. Its also a lot harder recruiting at Iowa than it is at Indiana.
  14. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) I think more than likely Texas is the team that loses out, although with their brutal conference schedule Memphis could suffer too. That's a really tough call right now, but those 3 with UConn and Duke seem to be ahead of the pack. Much as I like the Big Ten, I don't like their chances of stealing a #1 seed. All of the contenders minus OSU have at least 4 loses already, and they're also the only one that hasn't lost to a Big Ten dog yet. One of the teams would have to go on a serious run. If that would be the case...honestly It would have to be Iowa. Aside from Uconn and Duke they have more wins against top 50 foes than anyone in the country. That said there is no way in freaking hell Iowa would get a 1 seed. If they won out it would be interesting, but that ain't happening.
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) couSTEVEALFORDgh!
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) If your going to make the claim Marcus Camby is going to be remembered 50 years down the line for his defense, then I give up, because that is dumber than some of the stuff even the biggest Tyson Chandler haters have said. I gotta agree. Maybe if Camby would put up a few healthy seasons. Bruce Bowen will barely go down as a legendary defender and its taken a few championships for that to happen. Obviously Big Ben will go down as a legendary defender.
  17. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) See, I don't give a s*** about this year. I've always discussed what Chandler can be in the future, which is all that matters. Right now, he is better than he was last year in terms of rebounding, man defense, passing, court vision, etc. He will only continue to get better. And I don't give a s*** about the money, either. Defense is the name of the game. Protecting your rim is what it's all about. When Tyson alters shots and keeps the other team from scoring and getting second-chance opportunities, it's as if he himself scored. Get it? The Bulls don't have to make up the points if he stopped his opponent from scoring. I'm not gonna expect anyone to understand that. Maybe just a tad too deep. And think of all the second-chance opportunites that he provides for the Bulls on the offensive end. Again, maybe it never crosses the average Bulls fan's mind that something like that actually helps the Bulls offense. He has 60 offensive rebounds in the last 12 games. He is also one of the best in the NBA at keeping rebounds alive on the offensive end (tapping them to teammates, etc). His passing has been damn impressive. He sets picks effectively, etc. Funny you should mention it, but I've noticed during his stretch that he's been making terrific passes. I never remembered that part of his game so he's definately growing in that regard. Like I said I'd like to see him keep defenses honest by developing a decent mid range jumper and some sort of hook shot (although that'll never happen). And when he gets the ball around 3 point land and no one is guarding him, I'd like him to dribble in and at least make him defend. Hell with his length anytime no one is on him, dribble in and just go up to the rim. No one is going to block him and odds are he's gonna get fouled.
  18. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Pargo can play defense unlike Gordon. He provides energy. He is a better ballhandler, and can push it up better than Gordon, and even Captain Kirk for that matter. Skiles needs to play him more. He is a valuable weapon. Hate to break it to you, but Pargo is mini Ben and he definately can't play defense. He also is a worse shooter but a little better passer. Ben is much stronger and is a far better driver. Bens' the better player but with what the Bulls would ask for, Pargo would be a poor man version of Ben off the bench. The problem is Gordon gets boatloads of hype. He's not a bad player, but he'll never be a great all around player.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) Is Tyson Chandler a better overall player than Elton Brand. Will he ever be a better overall player than Elton Brand? He sure as hell should be, since that was the trade. There are 2 options here: 1. You admit the obvious, Brand is and will always be better. 2. You say "Tyson is going to be better in 4 years and a defensive legend like Marcus Camby since he leads the league in rebounding the last 3 weeks". I like Tyson, but come on man, your just being silly. Camby is far from a legend. He's legendary at one thing..getting hurt.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) I just want Chandler to turn into a taller semi version of Ben Wallace. It's already obvious the Clips took it to us in that trade with Brand, and that isn't going to change regardless of what happens from here on out, since Brand can defend (although not at the level of Tyson) AND *gasp* SCORE POINTS!! But yeah, if I knew this would turn into a battle between the Tyson woodies and blind Tyson haters, with nobody allowing a middle ground of common snese, I'd have never started the thread.
  21. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) Sprint has had horrible customer service. The last 15 months has been a nightmare for me with them. Promised new phone rebates that never arrive, contracts that are renewed without an end date, changing the structure of my plan without telling me.... Anyone but Sprint. Sprint Royally screws over new customers by making them pay ridiculous prices for phones. They are notorious for it.
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Speed skating is so interesting to watch. Especially the relays, what looks like a clusterf*** is so organized. I never really watched much snowboarding until recently but damn it's awesome. If you ever have time, try checking out some clips of Terje (he's the best snowboarder ever) and check out the back country runs they do. They are totally insane and the air and creativity they have in these areas is just cool. Plus you can often times see funny old school clips of snowboarders jumping roads and I always get a kick out of the original borders like Burton and how they really had no clue what the hell they were making at the time or even how to ride them. The sport has came a really long way in not that much time. Plus they aren't the renegades of the mountain they once were, they are now the majority. And yes, I hate skiiers on the slopes cause they usually take a different path than borders due and it gets in our way (they tend to go left to right down the mountain while most boarders are more straight up and down the mountain (not as much going across). That said I think its tougher to be really good at skiing the snowboarding (however the tricks on boards are way cooler and for me I think its more enjoyable).
  23. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) Speed skating should be good, womens snowboarding decent. The only thing I'm not a fan of is ice skating. Ya, I can't watch figure skating. Snowboarding I can watch all day long and the speed skating is kind of interesting. That girl from Denmark killed everyone a day or two ago in the 6 or 7 lap race.
  24. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) Speed skating should be good, womens snowboarding decent. The only thing I'm not a fan of is ice skating. Unfortunately I could already tell you what happened in Women's snowboarding. Its all I've heard during the sports radio updates (which is all I'm listening to while I'm working on this stupid ass real estate project for school). Oh but just to give you guys a name..Hanah Teter (I'm sure I botched the spelling) is the best female snowboarder in the world. She's done quite a few runs with Shaun White in the past and has an awesome house (In Colorado I think, but I may be wrong). Outside her house she has rails/pipes set up so during the winter she doesn't even have to leave to practice her tricks. And she kicks the crap out of her brothers on all the runs. On a sidenote, I should probably know this, but is Halfpipe the only snowboarding event or is there a freestyle or speed event as well?
  25. Zoom and I have been talking and I got all the names together from those who played last year, so we'll be having a league, but I think were gonna start fresh with a legit commissioner (ie him, cause well I blew at it). I could tell you my keepers, but with maybe 3 or 4 new players and us not knowing who the keepers are on that team, my guess is we are best suited starting fresh and running things right from the beginning (with a set of rules for the keeper league and all that good stuff). I think he'll be PM'ing you, but don't worry, anyone that was in the keeper league last year will have first rights when we restart it this year. Hopefully everyones still up for it. I know we had a pretty competitive league both last year and the year before. You guys got me last year, but I'm gonna be coming back to win it for the 2nd time in 3 years this time around
