  1. QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) What was that cartoon where all the friends touched their rings together and used all their skills to become a more powerful entity? I'm thinking something like that could work for this group. All our powers combine to form...CAPTAIN PLANET Or with the Sox...All our Powers combine to form....CAPTAIN LOOGY
  2. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) One good thing about moving to Montana... I can't see them suck because I can't get the games on TV... At least you'll be able to watch the Sox minor leaguers in Great Falls.
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:26 PM) The Bulls have mastered the art of blowing games they should've won. Up 5 with 1:30 to go and can't finish them. This game was lost when Tyson fouled out. They miss veteran leadership. We have lost more games down the stretch than anyone. It hurts, but at the same time I know we aren't far off.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) I really do feel bad for Bulls fans. This team is sooo frusterating, and I dont even give a s***. They played strong. Too bad they couldn't make free throws. The team is right there. It just kills me that we have zero post presence. Any what of a post presence and our guards would be even better and the team would be downright impressive. Oh and I must say for the most part Gordon played good tonight and Hinrich turned it up big time in the 2nd half. Hinrich is such a good passer and really nifty at getting into the paint.
  5. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) Just keep him away from IU. Right now I want Alford staying right where he is. He's doing a hell of a job.
  6. I just based that on expectations. I'd have zero problem with it going to him. If Michigan finds a way back I'd also look at Amaker. Note, I should say that I don't think even I would have said they'd win the big 10 cause I thought MSU would run away with it, but aside from MSU I said Iowa could be as good as anyone else in the conference. All that said...there is still a lot of basketball left. I'm just really proud of the Hawks. Its been a while since they've had this type of year. I still think back to the team with Recker and wonder what could have been had he not totally jacked up his knee. That team was good. We also almost beat Uconn when they won the tourney with Rip Hamilton in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 (I think it was Sweet 16).
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) True, but take down the "NCAA Tournament" banners, that's just basically a confession of mediocrity by the program, and you guys are better than that. Why judge...just worry about the Illini. We also have like a zillion national championship titles in wrestling and of course 5 national championships in football.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) As I said the other day, congrats to Ohio State and Iowa on their co championship. I just hope Alford gets a big extension, because he still can't coach, however that group of veterans he has on this years team has really put it together. I can't say that. Alford did a hell of a job coaching Southwest Missouri State. He obviously has had some down years in the big 10, but he's had some really good teams that were stopped by injuries (when we had Recker in here) and than it took him a while to figure things out. I think he's learned that its better to have character guys (like Horner/Brunner/etc) as opposed to pure talent guys like Pierce that are total pricks. He's done a great job getting the team prepared and I don't think there is a team in the conference that runs better plays out of timeouts and I've been watching a ton of big 10 ball this year. Plus, there is no way you aren't doing a good coaching job when your taking a team that was picked by no one (but myself) to be in the upper echelon of the big 10 (obviously there is still time left so anything can happen). Oh and did I mention he's done a very good job making sure these guys play consistently on defense. I also think Alford has learned the importance of getting your younger guys some experience so when the seniors leave they may not be quite as raw as originally expected (that said I still expect a down year next year). Although Henderson/Freeman/Thompson/Haluska isn't too shabby, they'd really have to all step up for it to turn into something better. Right now...Alford would get my vote for Big 10 coach of the year.
  9. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) Jason, stop rushing the floor. They can rush the floor every day for all I care...cause in the end a floor rush equates to a WIN. Well most of the time (cough *Illini fans* cough). On a sidenote...you guys bash the crowd but this was as loud as I've heard Carver Hawkeye in some time (at least through TV). The school really seems to be getting behind these guys and I'm glad. We have one of the best home field advantages in football and an awesome following to road games as well (when it comes to FB) and it would be nice to see that happen with basketball as well again.
  10. QUOTE(Nokona @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) IOWA up 23-19 against MSU with Hansen at the line very entertaining gotta love the defense in this game Hell ya...we shut em down and really played good offense aside from a strecth late in the 1st half where we had some turnover problems. Didn't turn the ball over in a 13+ minute run during the 2nd half. Horner looked great from 3 and for the most part they took good shots. Hansen was a beast and the Hawks came up with a huge win. I also got to give credit to Alford as he did a really good coaching job. I loved all the different looks we gave MSU defensively and I also liked how he made sure Hansen and Brunner stayed fresh by giving Thomas more time. Freeman...man do I like how Alford is getting the kid experience in crunch time. Definately preparing this guy for a big time role next year and he could turn into one of the best Iowa has ever seen at the point position (and they've had some damn good points). I'm glad he gets to play a year with Horner whose one of the best PG's in the country.
  11. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) They just showed Iowa's "NCAA Tournament" banners...always gives me a laugh. We are just as good as you guys, if not more storied when it comes to college sports. Last I look we've also played in NCAA finals games in college basketball.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) But where would be go? Ahh...are you implying I aught to create a trust that will ensure the lasting existence of Soxtalk. Haaa...I'm selfish..when I die so does Soxtalk. Therefor all of you should protect me as if I were the president.
  13. Nope...if I dissapear it probably means I'm dead.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Iowa loss to MSU OSU loss @ WISCY And it's a clusterf*** again. All I hope with OSU is that Oden stays one year and goes pro.
  15. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Gotta move the Hawkeyes back to the pack. And let OSU run off with this thing. I think not.
  16. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:35 AM) I have another question on the minor league draft: how exactly do we determine who is eligible for that draft? If we just do ROY guidlines you're going to get some pretty strong picks in the minor league draft that are already on major league rosters. Even if we do guys that haven't played in the majors yet, someone is going to get a steal with Delmon Young. My vote is we wait until late May or June, and then anyone that isn't on a major league roster at that time is eligible. We could do the draft the same time the amateur draft is done (1st week of June).
  17. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) GO MSU :sleep
  18. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) How does that stuff just appear? Change in delivery? Could be himself getting stronger and just maturing. Could be a minor change in delivery. Or it could have been roids. It really depends. Velocity can definately improve. I don't know what his build was prior. For example...I fully expect Bmac to put on another 1-3 MPH on his fastball as he continues to develop and get stronger. It could have simply been something like that. Hell Eric Gagne added a boatload to his FB when he went to the closers spot.
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) I might know that columnist.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) Clippers trade Chris Wilcox to the Sonics for Vladmir Radmanovic. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...vic_for_wilcox/ I like this deal for the Clippers. Let's face it, with Brand and Kaman, Wilcox was kind of the odd man out. In Vlad, they strengthen their bench while adding a very potent 3 point shooter. Also, very, very bad news for the Cavs. Looks like Larry Hughes will miss the rest of the season. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...her_8_10_weeks/ Wilcox is a guy I wouldn't mind in Chicago. He's really athletic yet has some low post game. He's just stuck in a tough spot in LA. Good move by the Sonics, imo. I can also see how it gives the Clips a little extra dimension from the low post spot. That said I think in general Wilcox is better or at least has more upside.
  21. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) I would have no problem keeping it where it is or moving it back some. The NBA line is way too far back and I think the last thing college basketball needs to do is become more like the NBA. The only thing I would say is that if you move it, it has to stay. You can't ease it back. Moving it will immediately change how you can compare records from the past. You already have the current era vs the pre-3pt era. Consistency is very important. So if they move it, move it ONCE only. I agree...college ball is so much more enjoyable than the NBA. I wouldn't mind moving it to the international line, simply because shooters are so much better now, but NBA would be too far out and the 3 point game in college helps create upsets which are usually pretty exciting (unless your teams getting upset).
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Same here. My love for the NBA is nowhere near what it used to be. The last thing I wanna see is them mess with the college game. The s***ty officiating and the babying of the players has really turned me off the NBA. I used to follow it much more but now I watch Bulls games and thats about it (although I have been watching more basketball in general lately, but most of it has been college ball).
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) Wow, 94-97 MPH fastball that could touch 99 MPH. I wonder what he can hit now after Tommy John surgery. I guess none of it matters if he can't throw it over the plate. Notice how the velocity just appeared. I wonder if its still there.
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) From a 2003 San Diego Padres Top 10 Prospects chat transcript: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/chat/...padreschat.html I guess he has a mid-90's fastball, or at least he did before his Tommy John surgery. No surprise once again -- good stuff, horrible control. Seems like a trend with all the lefties KW has acquired. You can look at his stats and see high K numbers last year, which tells me the stuff is there. He's yet to find the command though.
