  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Yeah. This is the first time this has ever happened! They should be played on alternate days so that when both series go 7 games the LCS' take 2 weeks I've long said that Fox is dumb and that they should have one game start at 7 eastern and another start at like 8:30 eastern. At least than people can catch both games and if both games go to the wire you can watch the end of the 1st one and than the 2nd one (for the generic fans) and than the diehards can watch there teams play.
  2. Is Hideki Matsui a free agent. I heard on the radio that he was, but wasn't sure. If he is, I think he'd make an oustanding DH. He's a left handed bat whose a clutch hitter. I'd give him a 2 or 3 yr deal worth 18 mill (don't know if that would be enough or not). Plus he could play all 3 outfield positions in a pinch. I'd hope that the Iguchi factor could help as well.
  3. He's a good owner. Maybe not a great one, but he's not near as bad as some people would lead you to believe. In fact I like the fact that he lets the baseball people make the baseball decisions.
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) That's actually what he did in West Lafayette. Iowa had less than 50 rushing yards at the half. -- Young finished with like 160. I've been impressed with Young. I think he's only a sophmore and aside from the OSU game he's been good. He's definately gonna have to continue to develop if Iowa wants to turn themselves into a national championship contender next season (With Tate and Young back). Plus, Iowa can stay in this big ten race if they can pull out some big wins down the stretch. That said I'd be shocked if Iowa won out, but they do have the talent to do so.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) OK, I TIVO'd the replay of the PU/Iowa game last night, and I just watched most of it again. -- I was probably a little harsh. On each of Purdue's 3-and-outs somebody on the D-line made a good play that lead dierectly to the short drive. -- I would just like to see some more consistency, and continued improvement out of that bunch. I agree, but they did have a couple huge huge losses from last season on the line. I'm just hoping that the team continues to improve, which has been the case during Ferentz' tenure thus far. They definately have a young front and I was wrong early in the season when I thought there linebacking core (which is darn good) would help the defensive front's adjustment. I think they'll bury IU this weekend and yes, they will cover. Although I think on the most part If I were a gambler I would take the underdog whenever a lot of points are involved cause Ferentz isn't one to run up the score. Once he's up by 3 td's he does his best to start running the heck out of the ball. So sometimes Iowa can totally dominate but a team can get a late score and make it close on the scoreboard (well relatively close).
  6. At this point i think you guys need to just agree to disagree.
  7. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) He pitched a helluva game tonight Lets regroup an get them tomorrow
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) Today was just ugly and there is no way getting around it, our guys just have to forget about this one and go get them tomorrow. Exactly. All I'm saying is that the club didn't execute. That happens every once in a while and its tough. I'm just ready for tomorrow. Its another day and the Sox have the pitching staff that can go on a serious run in the post-season.
  9. QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) I love the comment about Dye. It is like in little league when you could not hit a guy and you would try to lay down a bunt just to get some contact and maybe get lucky. Say what you want about Dye...he gets that bunt down and its a hit. The Sox weren't getting the job done and Jermaine tried to do something. He gets that bunt remotedly down and they had a leadoff runner with Paulie up. It didn't happen, big deal. The problem was obviously the amount of outs the club gave away, but at the same time, stuff happens and the Sox lost.
  10. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) I agree to a certain extent. I disagreed with Scotty and Arow bunting in those situations. We had enough trouble hitting, we didnt need to give up anymore outs. I think thats when you have to bunt (when you have trouble hitting). I kind of disagreed doing it with Rowand, but i had no problem with Scotty doing it. I just don't get why Scotty wasn't gonna try a drag bunt down the 1st base line.
  11. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Interesting, I tend to agree with you on pretty much all accounts, however I disagree that the Red Sox were even close to the worst team to make the playoffs this year or ever as you seem to say. That would go to the Padres or Yankees. I should say...I have a heavy bias towards pitching. In October it gets cold and offense seems to shrivel up and die. Usually a team that can play some defense, scrounge up a couple runs on offense, and pitch the ball can do really well. Last season the BoSox had some bats, but they also had two of the best of all time on the mound (Schilling and Pedro) and a really good closer (Foulke). Basically put I rated all my teams on pitching and the BoSox were the one team without an ace and while Timlin and that kid (looked damn good to me) are solid, that is everything the BoSox had pitching wise. Clement had been horrid the 2nd half, Wakefield is solid (nothing special though) and the Sox hit him well, Wells is eh (although he'd been good down the stretch) and Schilling is just a shadow of his old self. I'm harsh on them, but I think the Yanks had a better pitching staff and thats why I gave them the nod up in the AL. To be honest I thought both were pretty bad teams and I really didn't think either of them had a shot (but in a 5 game series anything is possible). But thats me and like I say, I have an extreme bias towards pitching.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) I can finally leave this damned sinking ship behind!!! I got myself a big raise and a move back onto the trading floor. Plus the company I work for is in a whole world of s*** for having a CEO setting up shell companies to funnel money to himself. Now they might be restating earnings all of the way back to 1998. WHAT A WEEK FOR ME f***ING AWESOME MIKE. I know you've been looking hard and what great timing for the new job (with the child coming) and all. Congratulations...a beer on me next time I see ya
  13. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Jason, you don't think the Angels have the talent to be here? I think once again, the Championship series' have the two best teams in there respective leagues facing off. No? I think they are the two best teams are here. I don't think the two most talented ones are. Remember, this is the same person who thinks Boston is one of the worse teams to make the playoffs in a long time (and I feel the same about San Diego, Atlanta and New York). The 4 teams left are the 4 best TEAMS (key word) in the game and its gonna be a dog fight for everyone involved. However, no one is going to tell me that the Angels are the most talented team out there. Without Colon they have a mediocre rotation, they have a weak lineup aside from Anderson and Vladdy and they have a strong back-end of the pen, but a very hittable mid to front end of the pen (if thats such a word). Sox have a great starting pitching staff (especially with Jose looking like an ace) and a very solid all around pen (not quite as good as the Angels back end, but the Sox pen is much deeper). Houston has the sickest pitching staff (ace wise) I've seen since the glory Braves rotation, a hell of a closer, and worthless lineup. St. Louis (much like the Sox) have a very strong pitching staff (with 1 new ace in Carpenter) and than Mulder, Morris (two very solid good pitchers) and a solid pen (not as good as the Sox) but Izzy is a better closer (simply his experience, etc). Cards have the best lineup however. Well thats my evaluation. When it comes to Boston...worse pitching staff to ever make the post-season (imo). Yankees staff was horrid too, but they did have a good pen (well at least Gordon/Rivera were good) while BOston had horrid starters and a horrid pen (imo). Braves starting was meh (Huddy and Smoltz are good, but the rest is mediocre and there pen is horrid) plus too many young players this time around. Padres were banged up...lousy offense, good pen, decent staff (with Peavy injured, they lacked an ace). Thats the way I see all the teams involved.
  14. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) Was is just me or did that crowd seem a lot less into the game today than in the ALDS? I am sure it wasn't just me because I could really hear them before. I wish I was out there, I wouldn't sit down or shut up. Oh yeah and how could I forget, how about Buck and McCarver?? All I could hear was "slurp slurp slurp ERSTAD slurp slurp." Holy crap they were horrible. Thats what happens when the road team gets an early lead. It tends to take the crowd out of the game.
  15. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) Being as hot as this team was, and resting for days, might have been a bad thing rather than a good thing as everybody thought. I think every anaylyst and person out there looked at that and tried to overpub it, just like the media does with almost everything. Fact is the Angels are a professional team, they got the job done, Sox didn't. Sox were definately rusty the first couple innings and at that piont they found themselves in a hole. Jose kept him in it, the Sox battled back, but in the end it wasn't enough. Everyone seemed to be writing Anaheim off (i'm not referring to people on this board) but analysts all over. I've watched the Angels way too much. They don't have the talent to be here, but you know what, here they are. We as Sox fans have heard much of the same from the media for most of the time and were here. You know why Anaheim and Chicago are here...cause there both pretty freaking good teams. Good teams find ways to win, whether they've had 20 hr's of sleep or 2 hr's of sleep. That said, the Sox are a good team and they'll bounce back and get em tomorrow. They play there game and do the little things and this series will be a deadlock going to Anaheim.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) I don't think he's all smoke and mirrors but our guys were swinging at every piece of garbage he threw off the plate. Byrd's pitch count was almost non-existent through the first few innings. At the same time, he's not the type of guy you sit back and wait on. He's a good pitcher who throws strikes. With those type of pitchers the best pitches are often early in the count. This guy set an Angel record for fewest walks from a starting pitcher (I think thats with 200 or more IP). Tip your cap to the other team, focus on the next game.
  17. Managers look smart when there players execute. When they don't they look like fools, regardless of how good or dumb a call was. Was this a winnable game, sure. What kills me is that Jose pitched freaking brilliant and picked up the loss. Giving up those outs also hurt, but I have seen worse losses, like when you have runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs and can't get runs in (which the Sox didn't do). Tomorrow's another day, they play there style of baseball and its back to an even series. If they don't, they'll be in trouble. They've got us this far, and I got faith in this club. Also, I'm not by any means saying that everyone's whining, I was mainly going off on the original poster. I'm a little short when it comes to people stupidly complaining and acting as if Byrd is this AAAA pitcher. This is a big league pitcher, who has never depended on velocity in his left and flat out stepped up. You tip your cap to the opponents and try to get them the next day.
  18. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Hang wiff ems? I saw pop-ups, ground outs, and horrible bunt attempts. I remember AJ hitting the ball hard (but that was off KRod) and Uribe hit a hard fly out to Anderson (off Byrd). Sox hitters looked fooled for most of the game. AJ line shot..Uribe had a line shot...Dye had a line shot early in the game...there were hard hit balls. Didn't you guys listen to Byrd during his post game interview, he even alluded to getting a little lucky out there cause the Sox hit him up in the middle innings. Plus you had a couple rockets early in that inning the Sox scored some runs.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) OK, but here's an honest question. Did we have a 3-game losing streak after each of our 8-game winning streaks? Who gives a s***. Don't point out history to me, this is now and now is what its all about.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) But we don't win on the West coast. Also, Crede hit a solo homer today, but he screwed up plays in at least 3 of the 4 playoff games so far. Shut up with excuses. No excuses. This team is gonna play hard regardless. West Coast, East Coast, f***ing Pacific Rim, I don't give a s***...they execute and play there style of baseball and they can beat anyone. Thats all that matters. Tomorrow's another day.
  21. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) We were the best road team in baseball right... Win tomorrow, win 2 of 3 in LAA and we have 1 left at home One game at a time...one game at a time. Right now the Sox need to get back into a groove and go out and take care of business. They do that and this series will be notted at one, but thats what they need to focus on. And everyone b****ing and moaning, sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride. This is White Sox baseball and they got some fight left in em. You can bet your asses they do.
  22. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) Honestly, WTF? Crede, way to choke yet again. Dye, I don't even know what the hell you are thinking Podz, congrats on becoming utterly useless, all-star. Arow, don't bunt, just don't bunt ever again. I have never seen a bigger disadvantage in the dugout with Scioscia absolutly raping Ozzie. Shut up. There will be no whining or b****ing whatsoever. You want to whine and complain do it elsewhere. This team is a playoff team, thats won one round and got beat. They hit Byrd up later in the game and just had some hang wiff ems. And Crede sure didn't choke early in the game when he hammered a solo shot. Seriously, shut the f*** up. There's another game tomorrow and I'm not gonna deal with people jumping off ledges.
  23. There's another game tomorrow. Angels beat us at both of our games. Hopefully the Sox can go out and execute and do the little things tomorrow. If they do it will be a tied series going into Anaheim. LETS GO SOX!!!
  24. http://www.suntimes.com/output/roeper/cst-nws-roep11.html Here's mine (which I sent to him): 1) Who in the Sox organization was once known as the "Korean Babe Ruth"? Man Soo Lee 2) Ozzie is indirectly related to one of his pitchers. To whom, and how? Freddy Garica...uncle in law or something along those lines. I think it was his niece who married him (so whatever that makes him). 3) What song plays every time Podsednik comes to bat? Not a freaking clue 4) The "Go Go, White Sox!" song was written for what team? 59 Sox 5) During the opening video montage, one sequence goes like this: jets come screaming over the park, a flashback to an explosion on the field duirng "Disco Demolition," then Carlton Fisk making this famous play. What is it? Not a clue 6) Where does one look at The Cell to see the pitch speed (radar)? Left field 7) Can you find a mural of Shoeless Joe Jackson in the Cell? Where? Yes, Outfield I think (I'm thinking right field) 8) In one of the most memorable finishes of the season, A.J. Pierzinski hit a walk-off homer on the next pitch, after a seemingly for-sure foul-out. What team was it against? (LA Dodgers off of Yhancy Brazoban) 9) The White Sox beat a team this year without batting in one run. Who was it, and how did it happen? Can't freaking remember, but It was on a balk or something like that 10) Why is Carl Everett known as "Jurassic" Carl? Cause he don't believe in dinosaurs 11) Who has the most stolen bases on the Sox behind Podsednik? Aaron Rowand (???) 12) Konerko, Ross Gload and Blum have all played 1B for the Sox this year as starters or backups. However, two other outfielders played first base for the Sox this season, one successfully, one not so successfully. Who were they? Jermaine Dye and Timo Perez 13) On opening day, after the opening new video montage, the Sox had replaced AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" as the theme song with another rock song from the early 90s, to the horror of many of us. It was switched back after a few games. What did they try to replace it with? Don't remember, just remember a bunch of posters whining about it. 14) This series spelled the end for previous season hero Shingo Takatsu. Who was it against, and roughly when? Cleveland (they owned him) although he didn't get released after it, that was the beginning of his demise. 15) When Hawk Harrelson was out for a few days because of eye surgery, a couple of former Sox players took turns in his place in the booth with DJ. Name one of them. Don Pall, Robin Ventura, and Jack McDowell all did it IIRC 16) When Yankees' third baseman Alex Rodriguez, during a Sox series there, said this Sox outfielder was "putting on a clinic," to whom was he referring? Rowand in CF 17) In one of Hawk Harrelson's most famous on-air tirades this season, he went nuts over a home plate umpire's decision to toss a Sox player from the game. Who was the player, and for what? Joe Crede, who allegedly leaned into a pitch and it was against Oakland. Jermaine Dye ended up playing ss in the game with Widger at 3rd 18) Who is the most hated sports columnist among Sox organization and fans? Marrioti 19) What's a Baltimore bounce? No f***ing idea, but I think its one where it bounces off the plate. 20) Juan Uribe drew a lot of flack for a move that Ozzie approved of during a Cubs/Sox game at Wrigley. What was it? Telling Derek Lee the ball was foul by raising his arms Have fun!
  25. Happy Bday to all of you. Man what a popular day to be born Hope you all had a great bday
