QUOTE(OilCan @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) Question... Last year on MLB.Com, you could go to the Draft Tracker web page, and usually MLB would have a little "blurb" scouting report. You can filter your choices to position, state, last name letter, etc. What happened to it? I tried to look for it today, and all I could find was that Draft Caster. Am I looking in the wrong place??? Thanks..... It was there yesterday but then I couldn't see it today. Run a search on there site for the draft tracker. By the way, welcome aboard

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Sounds good, you can help me make fun of Jason... Just kidding Jas. Haa, I'll be making fun of you all...we all know I'm the greatest person in the world. Watch the Sox will sell out because I'm in attendance those two days

Day 1 is over

Boz and I will be in town for the Dodgers/Sox series from June 17th to 19th and were figuring that Friday would be a good day for a Soxtalk Tailgate. There was one last year in August during the Boston series and it was a real blast, so if your attending the game hopefully you'll stop by. No idea on the details, but we can all figure this out. I don't know jack about the park, I just know I'll be there Just gauging interest so we can plan this shindig and get a list of who may be there. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) BA shows him at Sierra Vista High School (Nevada) in that listing, his name is just mixed in with that other guy from another school. Alright cool. Thats the guy than.
-
I had seen that name too, but they announced it as Vernon and than I found a Vince reference. Makes sense though, only thing is its at a different school too. I'm guessing your right, they just announced the wrong info.

16. Alexander Woodson – LHP – Porterville College

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) I know there are a few wood-bat JuCo conferences around the country, but I couldn't name them off the top of my head, that's for sure... Inexcuseable

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Yep, I definitely like that one on the surface. I'm not very familiar with the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges, is it a wood-bat association? It must be. I was puzzled. At first glance I assumed he played in a wood bat summer leaugue but I guess thats no the case.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) I'm personally loving the Aaron Cunningham pick. Here is what BA says about the barely 19 year old. "Huge numbers of scouts came for Simons and Zink, and they stayed for OF Aaron Cunningham (5). The unheralded freshman tore up the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges, hitting .489-10-56, earning MVP honors and nearly winning the league’s triple crown. Exceptionally strong at 6 feet and 190 pounds, Cunningham hit a number of long wood-bat home runs with one of the purest swings in the Northwest. His other tools, mainly his speed and arm strength, are slightly above-average." I'm diggin him as well.

Derek Rodriguez is a senior but pitched two seasons at University of Arizona (was part of the team that went to the college world series) and also pitched a season of junior college. He's 22. He was the closer for Arizona and than transferred to UNLV because he wanted to start. He features a fastball in the 91-93 MPH range and compliments it with a solid curve and changeup. He's garnished comparisons to Tim Hudson. Keeps the ball down as his fastball has good sink to it. I should add its considered a plus curve ball. "Knee Buckling according to his catcher".

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) Remember, Sweeney was committed to SDSU also... ;-) Ya, he's about the only top guy that seems to have gone pro, haha. If it helps he's the 3rd best pitching commit they had, but they seem to think he's ready.
-
Info on Cortez. He's a 3 sport player. Played basketball and was a tight end in football in high school. Very very good athlete and he's projectable. He was one of the many good recruits Gwynn landed this year (7th best recruiting class according to rivals) and he is expected to get quite a bit of playing time as a freshman. SDSU's pitching coach feels he's projectable. Throws in the low 90's now, but could get into the mid 90's. Don't know much about his secondary stuff.
-
Cortez is comitted to go to San Diego State and play for Tony Gwynn. Gwynn usually seems to get his guys to play for him so he could be a tough sign.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) I ask again what is whisler doing? Not bad. He missed about a month of the season but is back in the rotation with Winston Salem. 3.90 ERA in 30 innings of work. He's given up 26 hits while striking out 24
-
Ya, could even be a draft and follow but I doubt the Sox will go that way with Cunnigham. Trying to find something out on their 6th round selection right now.
-
Sox select Daniel Cortez, RHP, from Gary High School out in Pomona California
-
Freaking guy can rake JC pitching. .465 with 10 HR and 54 RBI. Also 11 SB's, 10 2B's and 4 3B's
-
QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) not the Vandy relief pitcher? Oh thats just his JC info. He's from Vandy.
-
Power arm in the 5th round. Has mechanical issues but consistently throws in the mid 90's. Has a closers mentality, needs to work on his offspeed stuff. I'm guessing Sox scouts loved his arm and obviously think they can tweak his delivery a bit. Should be a quick sign.
-
Ryan Rote, rhp, Kiswaukee (Ill.) JC. He was originally drafted in the 29th round by the Angels and is from Ill. Is a senior so an easy sign.

Ryan Roat
