  1. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) He was in the 88 Range yesterday all 5 innings yesterday and after the first couple innings got the Knuckle Curve working and it had some serious bite. Thats awesome. I hope the Sox don't mess with him. I'd just let him ease into things down in Bham and hopefully his confidence continues to grow with each and every start. I know I had written him off, but it really sounds like he's turned the corner and is back on his way to establishing himself as a prospect.
  2. QUOTE(sayitanitso @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) Don't forget about Gio! Plus Liotta. The Sox are also gonna be piggybacking Broadway so I'd say there is a decent shot they'll do something early on where Broadway starts and Lumsden comes in and finishes stuff out in relief. They'll have to ease Tyler back from his injury, but he'll be back around the ASB.
  3. QUOTE(Randar68 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Both Short-season teams open play on June 21st. I expect mass-signing-announcements in the next 48 hours. Was good to see Cortes may be close to terms. He's one of about 4 or 5 signability picks that could turn an average draft into a real good one... The funny thing is I saw where Brooks is supposed to be a real tough sign, which is interesting since a lot of us thought he was a bit of a reach. I know a couple years back a lot of scouts felt he projected more as a reliever as opposed to a starter.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) WE need a PHT mod to fix the thread title. This June, not July. All Fixed
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Mer, never. And I never could because of what happened to my girlfriend. I don't think any lawyer would ever want me on his jury in that case because I'd go with the approach of guilty unless he proved himself innocent. I just think those type of people are utterly sick f***s and I'd have it in against him before enough evidence was there. I'm sure its real hard too because often times its tough evidence, but I don't think as a juror I'd be able to look at it in that situation totally independently and unbiased.
  6. What f***ing horses***. f***er should not only rot in prison but in hell as well.
  7. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) has their been any rumors in chicago about the Sox making a trade since Marte is injured. Marte is day to day and there haven't been many rumors at all concerning a White SOx trade. I know Ozzie has been quoted in the past as saying he wasn't necessarily for a trade because he doesn't want to mess with the team chemistry. Personally I think they will make a trade, but Ozzie's quote leads me to believe if, and when, they make a deal its going to be an impact trade. Ozzie isn't going to want to bring in a mediocre guy that will not make a marked difference to the club. He's not going to want to take the shot that it messes with the chemistry. However, an impact guy, your willing to take that shot cause it makes the team a lot better for both the stretch run and hopefully the playoff run. Eric Chavez fits that bill, a real good reliever fits that bill. However a mediocre or average reliever probably wouldn't, considering the Sox have some other in house options when it comes to that. Eddie Guardado is a guy that would be the type of guy the Sox could take a shot at acquiring because he would be a big time addition to the pen. Anyway just my 2 cents.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxmurph @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) My son (Cooper 7 yrs old) and I were on Amtrak going down to the game on Sunday when it hit. We didn't feel anything because we were on the move, but they did stop the train a few times to make sure the tracks were okay, even though the quake was pretty far away. I have been through two big quakes the Whiitier narrows quake and the Northridge quake. The Whittier quake was kind of a rolling quake you could actually hear the aftershocks coming, I lived in Pasadena at the time and was about 17 miles from the epi-center. The Northridge quake was worse by far it was a real shaker, I lived about 8 miles from the epi-center of that one and everything came off the walls and out of the cabinets. I rolled over and covered my wife (ex-wife now) till it was over. Come to think of it, that was the most action I'd had in quite a few months. My favorite story from the Northridge quake, was the poor guy that right after the earthquake jumped into his pickup to check on his Mother, who lived a couple of miles away. He came to an intersection on Balboa Blvd. that was flooded due to broken water mains and stalled out. What he didn't know was that the gas mains had broken as well and when he tried to restart his truck the spark from the ignition set off the gas. He escaped but his truck and a nearby trailer park went up in flames. Just not his day. Those were the last two quakes I really remember. It seems like such a long time since than. I think it was the Northridge one where the freeway collaped and the police officer drove his bike off it. Those were interesting things and I remember waking up and the whole house shaking in the rolling sensation. And than there was the buildings where the entire ground floor went underground.
  9. QUOTE(Cali @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Depending on how big it is, it's just a quick little rumble. If you've ever been in a house of building and a large truck drove by and the window's rattled, that's basically what it's like, except you move a little bit too. If you're sleeping when it happens, which for some reason is when they ALWAYS seem to happen, it's the equivalent of if someone stood at the end of you're bed and shook it for about 7-10 seconds. Me and my friend we're in a dead sleep at our friends house in SD, we both opened our eyes(my left eye only since I was sleeping on my right side) took a quick glace at one another and went right back to sleep. In the morning we both asked if we felt a quake, but to be sure I went to the USGS site to confirm it. Hell I didn't even feel it.
  10. Interesting idea. Personally I think the bench looks good. I think both Pablo and Willie are capable role players and I have zero problem with them. You also will have Carl and eventually Gload to go along with Widger. With those 5 I have no problem. Of course Timo is somewhere in that group as well (although one player would have to be down once Gload is up). However the question comes to Crede/Uribe and if your going to trade for someone your going to trade for a starter. My theory is you better trade for 3b because Uribe is a plus defensive SS and there is zero reason to move him to 3rd and he's too important to the club to have him on the bench (Juan is a good player, no doubt about that). I'm of the camp that says if the Sox acquire a 3B they will deal Crede so with that said Lugo just isn't an option, imo, because I don't see the Sox acquiring a starting SS, they want a 3B. All that said if the price was right Lugo is a quality player, I just don't see where he makes the Sox much better and if your gonna make a deal, you need to make one that makes a marked improvement to the club, imo.
  11. Chisoxfn replied to Jake's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Haha Jake. Its all good, I think we could all use a laugh I didn't see him either, but still can't complain about Count. Everyone has a rocky start and this is pretty much the only time where Contreras hasn't been good (luckily I didn't watch the game either). From the sounds of it the Dbacks were sitting on his fastball, but I think you have to at least look at the fact that Contreras really helped the bullpen by gutting out 6 innings.
  12. Just treat other posters with respect, nuff said. Thats what it comes down to and we as mods and admins are going to do our best to clean up the stuff when those things don't happen. If you disagree with someones post, disagree and say why, but stay away from the "Your a Moron Line" or "What an Idiot". That type of thought, while easy to say, does nothing to add to the thread and is pretty much the same as the perceived stupid post. All you got to do is take a few seconds to think before hitting the post button. The best threads can come from discussions where two people disagree but you end up getting a ton of baseball talk and others get involved that everyone leaves the threads learning a ton (even if the main two parties still see things there way and thats very well possible). You also have people ask questions. We all learn a lot on these boards. I know I've learned a ton about baseball and other things from my time on these boards. Soxtalk has one of the most knowledgeable fan bases I've ever seen. So many people that understand the game or the people with inside information to certain things or the people who follow the minor leagues. There are just so many resources here and some posters may not be as diehard or know as much as some on here, but they may learn it and if they ask a question than a simple answer back is easy enough. I know I've asked plenty of questions before and have responded to many as well, just as most of us have. Regardless, I'm pleased with this board. There are so many awesome people here, all Sox fans, and all rooting for a Sox win. Sometimes I think people forget that, but we all hold that one thing in common.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) I wanted to go to San Diego but that was a no go with the parents. Stayed in L.A. the whole time now all the sudden my parents want to move to Cali, well if they do I'm staying here so whatever should be interesting. Anyways I went to Dodger stadium and thought it was a complete dump but the rest of my family loved it. My dad loves the place but I think its the most god awful ballpark in baseball (write there with Fenway and the Twinkie dome). Haven't been to Tropicana but everyone says that place stinks too. Just an ugly stadium and they have some awful awful fans (not the diehards, but the casual fans and they get a ton of em).
  14. There will be a whole slew of signings the next couple days and then rosters will be out for the short season teams. My guess is they may have already came to terms with some other guys or are pretty close. I'm gonna try and figure out whats going on with the other picks cause I haven't had the shot to do much catching up until tonight.
  15. Hey Bham, I saw where you mentioned he hit 90 on the gun his last outing (the time before this one). Is his starting to consistently throwing the 86-89 MPH range and is that knuckle curve starting to get its bite back?
  16. White Sox Sign Lance Broadway By Jason Gage June 13, 2005 FutureSox.com The Chicago White Sox announced that they came to terms with 1st round draft pick Lance Broadway. Broadway, a right handed pitcher out of TCU, was the 15th overall selection during the 2005 June amateur draft. In a recent interview with FutureSox.com Broadway mentioned he was eager and willing to get a deal done and the White Sox were just as anxious as the two sides agreed to a $1.57 million dollar signing bonus. Broadway will be sent to Winston Salem (High A)...MORE
  17. Cool beans
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) There's a good chance I'm getting tickets for this game, if I'd love to meet some of you guys. I saw you were in Cali this weekend. Were ya able to make it down to SD for one of the games? Or stuck in crappy LA the whole time (cheap shot at Cali)
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) Sounds good, I'm gonna try to get Gage to bring a glove so we can do some throwing in the lot as well. Consider it done. I'll definately bring my mitt.
  20. If Marte goes to the DL than I don't have a problme with this. Jenks is the best relieving prospect in the system and while I think Baj is just deserving if the Sox feel more confident in Bobby and feel that his attitude is right than I can definately see giving him a shot.
  21. ASU beat Fullerton and the final game is tomorrow at 3:05.
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) No no no no, no--theres no f***ing way Fullerton just won that game. They just scored on a f***ing thrown away pickoff and a balk on an IBB...WHAT THE f*** That balk call was some serious bulls***, you can't decide a game like that. :fyou ump, thats some huge BS Nah, its fantastic in my book
  23. Thats pretty cool. I'll try and throw it up tomorrow. Gracias knightni
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) The player and his agent should not be negotiating for the team, any more than the team should be negotiating for the player. Agent "I'm sorry Mr. TeamOwner, but I don't see how you can be competitive and pay my player $10,000,000. Let's make it $8,500,000? Does that sound fair to you? TeamOwner "No, I insist. He's batting .329 and we need a left handed bat. He's worth at least $10,000,000 that's only fair. Agent "Well if you can convince me you can spend it *and* be competitive, I guess we will take the money." I'm not arguing that a top heavy payroll is the answer. I agree that a balanced payroll, is probably a better path to the playoffs. What I cannot see is a player settling for less money on some hope the team will use the money to sign other players, who also would be signing for less, in hopes of getting other players who will sign for less dollars. That's a nice socialist system, but not a free enterprise, American dream way. And just having the extra money doesn't mean you will win anything. The Yankees have an almost unlimited payroll. If players started signing contracts based on lower wages so the team could sign more free agents, like the Yankees, there is no guarantee of winning. But my original question. Are teams hurting themselves when they refuse to sign a player based on his agent? No, the only person hurt is the player because quite often they end up losing money because only a few teams are willing to take him and in regards to the draft it will have a negative impact on his signing bonus (at least half of the time).
  25. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) Anybody have any idea on when will know for sure he won't be accepting any offer from us? Once he officially attends classes than he's pretty much done. Sox won't be able to negotiate with him. Its either that or when he registers for classes.
