*Official* College Basketball Thread
Chisoxfn replied to Heads22's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Hell the rest of the big 10 is garbage next to the Illini. So come tourney time I'll definately be pulling for the Illini cause right now it looks liek they are the only ones that can make the big 10 look respectable. MSU, Wisc, Iowa, Minn, Michigan are all mediocre in my book with MSU being the best of the bunch. I happen to think MSU, Wisc, and Iowa have the talent to make some noise, but the Illini are freaking legit. -
These are freaking hillarious. Great find cheat.

Pats 27 Eagles 24 I think its going to be a good game, and definately a fun one to watch.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) speaking of Weaver if he doesnt sign this year how late will he go in this up coming draft? He should still go top 15. The only question in regards to him will be how much longer will he take and is he still in good shape. Weaver is gonna be a good pitcher, not Prior good, but he's going to be good. He'll be a great selection for anyteam, imo. The reason he'll fall will be because of his signing demands. Hell he could even get grabbed earlier if no other guys really elevate there games.

QUOTE(Chisoxmatt @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) Im excited for the start of college baseball. im going to the college world series too. Sweet, I always here that its one of the funnest events in sports to go to. Hopefully you'll get to see my schools team play there again. It would be the first time they'd made it 3 years in a row.

One team to really look out for in my opinion is Long Beach State. I think they are really going to shoot up in the polls over the season because they have a pretty damn good looking pitching staff despite losing Weaver. In fact, had they not lost Weaver, I'd say they would have the best pitching staff in the country. Plus they got Jared Hughes who was a highly rated high school prospect (he was a 16th round pick, and originally committed to Santa Clara). Has a hell of a fastball though.

Forgot to make this thread on Friday, but the season has started for most teams. My Titans beat Stanford on Friday and then again on Saturday to win the series and will go for the sweep today at 1. There offense struggled both games, but so did Stanfords and Fullerton was able to do the little things to pull the game out. To be honest I didn't see much talent on the field in either game, minus Ricky Romero the Titans #1 starter. However, part of that reason is probably due to the fact its the beginning of the season and well it wasn't what I would classify as a pretty game.

If the Sox draft a reliever early, they better make sure he has a power arm because while I'm not a guy thats huge on the radar gun, I do think power relievers have a little greater chance of sucess, especially cause they can come in and strike guys out with runners on base.

I hear XM has more satellites up so you get a little stronger signal, don't know how true it is. Personally I think the music is awful on XM, but thats just me. Only thing it has going for it is Major League Baseball, imo. Also the big ten sports channel is really cool cause it means I can listen to Iowa basketball games, but I just cancelled my subscription and returned my unit. Screw it, I'll just make sure to dvr the games and watch em at some point each day.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) Watched The Grudge and AVP tonight.. Jason.. I think it was you that told me AVP was great.. and it was. I was glued to the tv. The Grudge, IMO, sucked. Ya, Nuke brought it up and I agreed with him on AVP.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) I gotta see if Boras will come represent me when I talk to my boss for a raise... Seriously, this shows me enough. If anyone ever doubted it, there is no doubt anymore, Boras is the best freaking agent in all of sports. He could represent me anytime. How the hell did he get Maggs 15 mill a year, I'll never now, but good god he did the job. Maggs should be excited as hell. Obviously he should of still taken the Sox deal (cause they are a better team then the Tigers) but this is definately a quality backup plan.

Cubs coverage getting odd....

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Cubs Rotation: >Kerry Wood - Overrated, living off his rookie year and 20 SO game VS Astros. >Mark Prior - Phenominal talent but had injury problems last season, but no means is he a guarantee. >Carlos Zambrono - Currently best pitcher on staff, has to get better away from home and control his emotions >Greg Maddux - Getting old, still has some in the tank but showed that he is starting to break down at times last year. >Glendon Rusch - Fluke last year, has to prove that he is a legitiment starter and not revert back to 1 and 12 with a 6.42 era like he had a year ago with milwaukee. Just a little analysis straight from my brain to your computer screen b****es. I still wouldn't have a problem taking there rotation. Cause if that team can get into the playoffs, it won't take much other then some good defense (which they won't get) and some situational hitting (don't really think they are built this way either). Hendry has had a godawful offseason, but at the same team any team with that front four (rotation wise) has a shot, but I don't see them beating the Cards and well I think the wild card comes out of the East this year. I don't think Houston or the Cubs will be threats this year. -
I still think he's going to have to move to 3rd base, which is going to make it that much more difficult considering Adrian Beltre is gonna be in his way. In fact, there is little chance that he'll play much short in the majors unless its as utility guy. But he won't be a major league starting shortstop.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) The point still stands that everyone here seems to be so confident in Podsednik, and he's had about one good season... And is a career .260 minor league hitter. I still say if you look at his development in the minors he was improving so thats something that has to be noted. He also has great speed and that can mean that a hitter can carry a similar average at the major league level, especially since he should learn more to make contact as he plays long and with his type of speed that only leads to more hits. I'm not saying he'll hit .300, but slap hitters with his type of speed can be quite sucessful and they don't necessarily need many, if any other tools. Of course thats easier said then done, but I do expect a .270 average out of Spod and think he could maybe hit in the .280 range. Plus his road splits, average wise, weren't all that bad this past year. Obviously he has strides to make, but couldn't you also give the case of him suffering from the sophmore slump. He's not an amazing leadoff hitter, but he's not as bad as some of you all make him out to be.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) I wouldn't buy it for $80. Wait until the last weeks of the season, when you get it for something ike $15. It then allows you to watch all postseason play, as well as all MLB games from the 2005 and 2004 seasons whenever you want. Isn't all of postseason play televised anyway? On a sidenote, I'm with boz, extra innings is way badass and way worth it. At least for you out of towners and every cable network offers it or should.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) frankly Durbin doesnt impress me much in the twins minors. i dont rank him too high. I agree with you on that.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) I don't know exactly -- I bought in with a family freind who was gonna drop his seasons. He says they are "great seats" , second row, behind home plate, UD. I don't have any in my possession, and prolly won't even go to a game until May. You'll like em cheat. Thats where my families seats are in Anaheim and while the Cell may be a little steeper or so I really think there are some of the better seats in the house. Great way to see the entire game.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) A couple at least, IIRC. Were they really just talking about it this morning..? Was that the first time they did..? A bit OT.. anyone hear them last night talking about the Sosa trade and playing clips from the PC. They were ripping him pretty good. I think Carmen was "interviewing" for an open broadcasting job... So is DJ potentially gone?

I dunno, but I think its kind of an oxymoron to have Timo Perez and defensive minded CF anywhere near him. The guy is pathetic defensively. He has one thing going for them and thats a plus arm because his range is lousy (even for a RF) and down right Everettesque in CF. Unless he was extremely slowed by this supposed injury last season (the one the Sox have talked about at times) then I don't think Timo fits the profile for the dbacks, but if they want to give the Sox something for Timo...then make the deal

QUOTE(TLAK @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) Wow! I've never seen you so down on a guy, he must have really stunk it up. Could the infamous dry air in Arizona have done him in? Another junker, Shingo Takatsu, looked pretty bad there too. Trust me, I haven't seen a worse performance minus Paniago flicking up the fans or the umpire (I forget what exactly he did). In Takatsu's case, I remember seeing him pitch and made mention that his changeup was unbelievable. The only thing was when I saw him down in Arizona his control was mega off. In Campos case, it was all awful and I'm not usually an overly harsh guy cause I think anyone that makes it to this stage has some positives, the big question is whether they can mix there pitches and throws strikes (not just strike strikes, but actually hit the targets).

Dodgers agree to terms with 3B Nakamura
Chisoxfn replied to EvilJester99's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
How much did the Dodgers have to pay to get the rights to negotiate with him? -
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) I REAAAAAALLLLLLLLLY doubt thats true. I agree with ya Nuke. Personally the local news stations are garbage when it comes to news.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) Skip the first Illini game. Then go buy tickets from other teams' fans who get eliminated. Since most of them probly bought tickets to all sessions, once their team is gone, they'll be looking to sell immediately. You should be able to find tickets for a decent price by doing this. And what happens when the Illini go out in the first round...to the Hawkeyes It may not of happened the first time, but they will fall
