  1. Just to add to this a bit, but Guillen has good speed and Gload has good speed (well solid speed). So Konerko is no longer in the lineup. This now means the middle portion of the lineup only has one slow player (Thomas) and the rest of the lineup only has one really slow player (Crede or Koskie). If I recall Aj has alright speed for a catcher. Also, todays article by Guillen hinted at several position changes. One seemed to hint at Gload starting (I think he's more then capable) and he will be in this lineup. The other was Uribe and he'll be there. You also have AJ, Guillen and a new shortstop. All of the others were positions the Sox appear to be upgrading and then of course 3b is left open. Guillen also mentioned having guys capable of handling the bat in the lower portion of the order. Well Gload in the 6 spot can handle the bat, Uribe can handle the bunt (ie bunt and hopefully with time control moving guys over in other ways as well). I always remember AJ as being a guy that could use all parts of the field (at least when he was with the Twinkies) and I think he dropped a few bunts against the Sox as well (going off memory). Sounds to me like more guys that can do what Ozzie does. Defensively the team is also better. Guillen is a very good rf...and an awesome LF. His arm is fantastic. Pyrz is good behind the plate. Gload is good at 1b, and Uribe is good at ss or 2b (wherever he is playing). Crede is good defensively as is Koskie. We all know Rowand can field and well Lee gives all out effort and may not be great, but he isn't a liability.
  2. Hey wite, I love the idea of getting Guillen and he will be gone in the offseason. My thinking is the angels will have at least a little heat which means the Sox could maybe get him at a little lesser then so called market value. That being said, I'd go with the Konerko for Pyrz and Jerome Williams and then acquire Jose Guillen for Jon Garland. The Angels get a good young pitcher that they once acquired (for Erstad...later to be nixed), so they can at least say they got something for Jose. The Sox get Guillen, a player entering his prime, who to me gets a rap like Everett. I watched the guy all year and he did nothing but play his ass off. Now I have no idea what happens in the Angels clubhouse, but on the field the guy gave 110%. I'd stick Guillen in RF, Rowand in CF, and Lee in LF. Now before everyone jumps all over me saying thats still a right handed lineup, may I remind you Konerko is gone, replaced with Gload (a leftie), plus you have Everett on the bench to get ocassional playing time (thomas will get rest and I'm sure some of the of's will as well...although if the Sox wanted to trade him I see the reasons in doing that as well, but they would have to pick up salary). And then you have Pyrz (another lefty) in the lineup. So at the start of 2004 season you had a righty at 1b and a righty at c (Olivo). Now you have two new lefties and the Sox still will add another lefty with whomever they add to play 2b or ss with Uribe playing the other position. I'd say both would be realistic deals FA or Trade - SS or 2B Aaron Rowand or Juan Uribe- CF Carlos Lee - LF Frank Thomas - DH Jose Guillen - RF Ross Gload - 1B Juan Uribe (or Aaron Rowand)- ss or 2b Aj Pyrzinski - C Joe Crede (or if you want someone else, maybe a faster 3b; heck you even have the option of Uribe at 3b, Harris at 2b and hitting in the 9 hole and a FA shortstop for the top of the order). Payroll wise thats about 26 million on offense. (not including bench players..aka 4 mill for Everett, which gives you 30 mill plus bench) Rotation Buehrle Garcia FA - Pavano...whoever Contreras Jerome Williams Payroll Wise thats about 30 million, assuming 10 million for the FA signing (which I think is a little high) Bullpen Shingo Marte FA or trade FA or trade Cotts Munoz/Diaz/etc Thats about 10 mill, leaving 5 to 6 mill for the two FA/trade acquisitions That gives a payroll of 66 million, meaning the Sox still have about 10 million to spend elsewhere. Of course a little bit more is going to go to offensive guys on the bench (remember I'm already counting Everett, so the rest of the bench won't be too expensive). THis means if the Sox really wanted to, they could add one way or another one more bat into the lineup or add another bat and spend a little more on the pen and get a closer, moving Marte/Shingo to the setup spot. I'm assuming this money would be spent on a 3B like Koskie and then using Crede for a young power arm (I think that can be had, although it may not be a guy thats proven) and then going after a legit closer. Anyway, all in all, its a tone down from my multi trade suggestions and seems semi plausible. I think I set realistic value in the SF deal as well as the Angels deal, although the Sox may have to give the Angels something else to go with Garland (But I'd be willing).
  3. All I can say is this...deal Konerko, deal Lee, acquire Guillen (give them Garland if thats what it takes; I am assuming that Guillen will still have trade value).
  4. Pyrz would be an awesome upgrade. Heck, would anyone be intrigued with a Pyrz and Jerome Williams for Paul Konerko deal? Williams gives the Sox a solid young starter with room to grow (allowing them to package Garland elsewhere) while Pyrz gives them a good catcher. Maybe they could get more (they being the Sox), I don't know...but I wouldn't midn this idea. You then have Gload as your starting 1b and save a bit in payroll (don't know how much Aj makes). One major flaw in AJ is that he doens't have a great OBP, but he can play vs righties and you can have Burke play on ocassions against lefties. .285 avg and a .340 OBP against rhp this season (AJ). Burke had a Jerome Williams (22) was 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA this year. Gave up 119 hits in 122.1 innings while striking out 77. In his only other season he was 7-5 with a 3.3 ERA in 131 innings. Their would be a risk in this deal, but Williams has a s***load of potential and could be an awesome pickup, imo. He had arm surgery a month ago and is capable of pitching at this point but Alou held him out in the Dodgers series and went with a rookie instead because he didn't want to risk rushing him. The more I think about this, I think SF would be happy with Konerko and the two players the Sox get would definately fit into their plans. Seems like a fair deal, in fact I could easily see giving the nod up to the Giants, but I have a little bit of a Sox bias and may be over-rating Konerko and under-rating the fact that Williams is 22.
  5. f***ity f***, I forgot to copy and paste my picks from my other pool into here. Damn their went my plan on not missing out on a week for once.
  6. I guess I'm famous as of this point...I'm the only person to vote for Senor Spiffbergo

    Computer problem

Thats what I was thinking. Even having a phone next to the screen can do it. I remember my screen used to get all weird (old monitor) and then all of a sudden it hit me. Whenever I was on my cell and sitting on the computer that was what was causing it. However, if its a constant flow, unless you moved a magnetic type thing near your desktop permanently then I'm guessing its something else and that you need a new monitor.

I'm still amazed at your talent. Hell, even during my hayday I don't think I got anywhere near that. Your a freaking olymic style poster who only gets stronger. Me I think I was more a one or two year wonder, who in the last year just couldn't keep up due to the fact that they are now testing for the roids. Good thing too, although I wouldn't mind a couple weeks of being able to be a bum and go on the net a lot more.
  9. f*** f*** f***ITY f*** Season over. I don't think I've ever been more crushed by an injury.
  10. Am I missing something on Dbaho's sister?
  11. One report says it was serious. Grossman's dad is saying Rex felt something pop while going down (it had nothing to do with the hit). I have no idea if this is true though. Its just based on a post at a Bears board claming its up on the Bears Insider on Chicagosports. Right now I'm still going to be optimistic and ifgure he'll be back after the bye week.
  12. Bag Boy at a grocery store. God did that suck ass. Number 2 s***tiest job was when I started a moving company during the end of high school. Pay was good and it was just one day a week (or whenever me and two of my buddies could get a job) but too f***ing tiring. However, after work relaxation would feel amazing. Both jobs were awful though.
  13. Krush...just wait, our Fighting Irish are going to put up a fight with Purdue. Right now I'm feeling really confident about the upcoming game, especially with the way Quinn played in the first half. The offense still isn't their yet, but its a lot more explosive then its been and its only getting better. Defensively, the Irish are more then good, they are very good. I like the matchup against the Boilermakers and have a feeling after Saturdays game against Purdue, we'll see the Irish back in the top 25

    A Raided Party

Heres what I don't get, where was their probable cause. Someone must of f'd up. I don't know about the parties you guys went to when you were underage, but when I was underage we'd always stay inside. If the Cops came the person would get everyone in a room away from the door and go outside. They would give you a warning (for noise) and say if they had to come back for the noise complaint that you have to pay a fine. I think its like 150 bucks for each cop that comes the 2nd time. However, if they were like busting down the doors, you must of had people outside hammered and what not. The other rule of thumb is, when your on the street and your underage, don't have booze. If you have a cup in your hand, turn it upside down and walk. They will amost never give you a ticket. Thats what I always would do at college parties when you would go house to house and what not. While walking just turn the cup upside down and they have no reason to bother you. And do what 420 said, if a cop catches you, shut up and be polite and they are a s***load more willing to help you out. Talk s*** on them and they will do every little thing to f*** you and s***, you know what, once you start doing that you deserve whats coming to you. Sure sometimes a cop is just a dick and you can't do anything about it, but most of the time cops are just normal people doing their job...treat em with respect and you'd be amazed what they'd let you out of. I've gottne out of a lot of stuff based on just being polite to them (nothing serious or anything..just petty s***).
  16. Disagree heavily on this. During the middle of the season after the Garcia deal and what not the Sox were constantly drawing good size crowds (i'm talking 30,000 plus) and their was a definate buzz in Chicago. JR saw this and I think he knows the stadium isn't going to prevent people from going now and that their are still a ton of Sox fans out there.
  17. If I recall from reading Moneyball, they kind of completely about range factor. They say its better then the older methods of rating defense but that their are still way too many holes for it. I think DePodesta would do a different type of defensive rating and would judge how many runs a player would save or how many balls a certain outfielder would get that the average outfielder wouldn't. He would set a zone that an average outfielder would cover and then outs made outside that range would be consier above average or what not. They would chart it out and it seemed very time consuming and pretty high tech. Still, you have to worry about players playing different positions and like you say Rex, RF really depends on the type of pitcher. If you have a groundball staff, your shortstop is prone to have a much higher rf. Personally I think when it comes to things like that, RF can tell you some things, but bottom line if your comparing two players, watch them play about a month (go through the tapes and what not of balls hit towards them) and see how many steps they can go, what type of plays they make. Then make an evaluation.
  18. LOL, thats where I knew the name from. I've seen the movie, but only once. Everyone tells me I need to see it again. Its been so long since I've seen it. If it helps I've seen Eight Men Out like 20 times
  19. Yep, Gammons has done nothing but tout those deals Epstein made and how much it improved the BoSox defense. I remember Derek Lowe actually went on a hot streak following the deal. But Nomar was brutal defensively. Cabrerra is supposed to be awesome. Offensively he's had a few really good years and a few not so good years. If I'd compare him to anyone it would be Renteria. Renteria is obviously much more advanced, but I also think he's older and obviously more experienced, meaning that Cabrera has a shot to break out like Edgar did a few years back. Rent was always solid, but he definately took his game to another level about two years ago.
  20. Name rings a bell...but I dont' have much of a memory on his hype and what not. But I'm assuming he would compare to Bobby Jenks. God if he stayed healthy and had anywhat of a brain he would be unbelievable. I've never seen sicker stuff from a guy his age (well back when I saw him about a year and a half ago).
  21. You mean offensively or defensively? I have never seen enough of Cabrera but I know he has offensive potential, but wasn't he a gold glove guy last year?
  22. Yep, Andy Marte. Seen him play a few times and he's really good. Braves also have Franconeour who is an outfielder. Saw him before I even knew he was a good prospect and remember writing down his name in my notebook (i bring one to the minor league games i see) and was just impressed by his ability. Then i get home and see him rated pretty highly by BA. The next year he's even higher (this year he's one of their top few prospects).
  23. Agree with you at that, if he is at 2nd base all year, he will have a shot at the gold glove..no doubt in my mind at that either. For cripes sakes Adam Kennedy is supposedly the favorite. He's solid and all, but holy s***, Uribe makes him look like nothing from what I've seen from him at 2B.
