What Free Agent.....
My point is, Benitez is going to get huge money, while Percival, when healthy is dynamite and you could probably get him at a reasonable price. I think if he's willing to take a fair deal with some incentives (to protect the Sox in case he would get injured) then he would be a huge upgrade. Not saying its a must, also wasn't aware of Williamson going down. That sucks I always liked him. Isn't this the second time he's had this surgery or am I mistaken?

What Free Agent.....
Who Whoa Whoa...is Jacque Jones a free agent or is he arbitration eligible??? If he's a free agent, get his ass on the southside pronto, then add a starter and some relievers. Mota would be amazing, but why would the Marlins deal him. He's still not gonna get a big raise for a while.

Soxtalk Soundoff: Jon Garland
Thats a pretty good idea...i'll add that to the bottom of my post. Maybe everyone else can as well. Also, at the end of all these, I'll put them in the archive so we can all look back at em at some point next year

ESPN Hockey 2k5 ships tomorrow
I was going to buy madden and trade in 2k, but I'm just too cheap. I lvoe hockey games and haven't bought one in a while, so I will definately be picking this game up. Speaking of which, it is pretty odd that the game is already coming out. I mean, how much longer is it until hockey season starts (even if it does???).

What Free Agent.....
Put Scott Williamson on my list as well. Him and Percival would be sweet, but I know that would be a pipe dream. And I'd want Percival to like a 2 yr deal worth 8 mill or so, maybe some incentives. Him, Marte, Shingo would be pretty damn good and Percy has a great attitude. YOu are right about the whole injury thing, but it does appear he won't be in Anaheim.

Soxtalk Soundoff: Jon Garland
I'll start off a new soundoff My Expectations: Like many, I expected Jon Garland to break out this year. The facts are that he pitched very good for a stretch this season, but has been absolutely brutal as of late. I have some definate concerns by the way he has pitched down this stretch this year and that he is obviously lacking in confidence or something. I don't think you can really say much of a positive about this season, other then its another year under his belt and that hopefully he'll finish the season healthy. I thought Garland could become a great #3 or a good #2 and even after this year, I still have that thought. My Take: While Garland has really bothered me as of late (his pitching performances), I still see so many things a like. He can make things look so easy and I do think he can get over the "one bad inning". Plus, he's cheap and hopefully the Sox will have him penciled in as a #5 starter, I mean, the guy is a great #5 starter and I still believe he can turn into a #2 or 3. Final Say: Garland shouldn't be dealt. A year ago, I would of said the Sox should of given him a long term extension at this point in his career, but now I'd probably go with a one or two year deal, unless you can sign him to an affordable deal for the next 3 to 4 years with some incentives and what not. In that case, I'd go for it cause I still think the odds are pretty good that Jon pans out. I know one thing, if JG is the teams #5 starter, the Sox should be pretty good and us fans should be pretty happy. Buy or Sell: Buy

What Free Agent.....
If they are going to spend money on a hitter: Carlos Beltran or JD Drew. If that happens: Ship out one of Konerko/Lee Pitching Wise: Troy Percival and Odalis Perez

Ozzie and KW on the same page
The Sox have some guys to build around, they need some guys to finish off and do the little things to win, as well as another starter and some relievers, imo.

Neon Deion Returns
Best defenses in football belong to both the Patriots and Ravens. I think the Ravens have the more explosive defense (ie, more turnovers, more points), but New England also has a tremendous, smart offense that reduces turnovers. New England is heavy favorites in my book, but in the NFL anything can happen. And Spiff, you'll love Rosie if he is healthy. He was my favorite defensive player on the Bears, over Urlacher.

Esteban Loaiza
Regardless of the fact, this was a good deal by the Yanks. Jose wasn't going to be sucessful with them and they freed up a large portion of salary for the next two years. Now its not like the Yanks need to free up payroll, but its still a wise business move.

Esteban Loaiza
I don't think he's going to come just to be showcased. SOmeone is going to give him some decent money for a year and two, just hoping he can turn things around and get his velocity back up. I bet he still gets 3-4 mill a year and in my opinion, I'd rather see the Sox spend 4 mill more and get one of the 8 mill a year starters and then do a little work on the pen and then of course add a leadoff hitter or two.

No more bickering is needed dabears. If people like it, they like it, if they don't they don't. So let whoever views this thread either enjoy the few movies linked in here or not enjoy it. I hope no one is upset at me locking the thread, but I and the other admins are going to do our best to try and put a stop to the petty name calling and what not. I want to see people putting out their opinions, talking about things, debating, doing all the things that makes Soxtalk great....basically everything but personal attacks.

Bears Talk
Thats what I was saying when the Bears dealt Booker. All I have to look at is the fact that Eddie Kennison was the Chiefs best reciever (well not named Tony G.) and look what their offense accomplished. Now the Chiefs did have a good vet qb (Green), an amazing back (Priest), and what I would call the best oline in football, but the Bears have a good back in Jones, a good line, and a qb who has the shot to be explosive, plus some decent receivers. Now they are nowhere near where the Chiefs are, but I could say they have the talent.

Clement hurt
I don't recall Clement having a history of injuries at all. I think he could and people may feel that way cause he throws so many sliders, but thus far, I know he's had a bum back at times, but he rarely misses starts and what not.

Jose Capellan
I'm with you. While I love a damn good fastball or just a sick slider, I also realize pitchers can get away with not having that, especially if they have tremendous control and good secondary pitches. They don't need to have one great pitch, but as long as they are confident in mixing up their arsenal and hitting their spots, they will be sucessful. Plus, just becuase a guy throws 97, doesn't mean he can't not have control. Just look at Matt Anderson or anyone else that throws hard and has gotten nothing but shelled. It happens all the time. Major league hitters can hit a hard fastball if the guy can't spot it and has no secondary pitch or can't throw that secondary pitch for a strike. I see why guys with 97 MPH fastball get hyped, because if they could develop pinpoint control or for the rare ones that do, they have a huge advantage for them. If you can spot a 97 MPH fastball and have just a decent offspeed pitch, you will be very good. However, there aren't many people that can even do that.

Soxtalk Soundoff: Joe Crede
TLAK, those are some awesome stats.

Soxtalk Soundoff: Joe Crede
Now thats a deal I would definately consider, especially if the Sox could find some high value for Konerko. Maybe swap Konerko for a good hitting left handed bat. But in general, what I would do with Crede is swap him for another youngster that could fill a different need for the Sox. I guarantee this much, he'll have value on the market.

Soxtalk Soundoff: Joe Crede
Unfortunately, adding another right handed offensive threat shouldn't be a priority, especially when considering pitching. Having that said, I am an absolutely huge Adrian Beltre fan. He's better defensively then Crede. Adrian has a much strong arm and better range as well as the whole offensive thing. However, Boras is his agent and he's going to get roughly 12 mill a year long term (thats my guess, take it for what its worth). I'd rather see the Sox go cheaper in this department, find a good left handed bat for RF, then insert a good obp guy at ss (speed as well) and maybe even do that at 3b or go with Uribe and find a new platoon guy.

8/29 Games
I know Rogo has been playing left a bit more oftne as of late. I wonder what will happen when Brice comes back. With the Hogs in the thick of things, I'm guessing Brice will come back and finish up the year. I think if they weren't in the race, his season would probably been over at the end of the olympics.

Jose Capellan
Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't Francis realistically a similar comparison to McCarthy. Neither of them have a blistering fastball per say, but both have excellent command and some good secondary pitches. I think you could make a case for Francis's secondary pitches being better, but Bmac's curve is pretty damn good and his changeup is getting up there. I'd say you could see Bmac and Francis having similar careers, but some of you all may just think I'm nuts. With that being said, I want to see how he does in AA over the rest of the year and both Francis and Cappellan are ahead of Bmac at this point. Capellan probably has the most upside, but thats cause of his arm.

Tough Dilema...
Well if that were me, I'd tell my dad (not my mom) that my friends and I did some drinking and none of us are going to drive, so is it alright if they stay over, cause I'd rather have them here then in their car (they aren't going to drive). I know my dad wouldn't care one bit, cause I have done that on more then a few ocassions (when I was younger). His thinking is, better this, than the alternative. Plus he knows what he did when he was young and your being responsible. I think your parents would see it this way, plus your being honest with them, which is always a good thing. Now if it were my mom, it be another story, she'd say yes, but then I'm sure I'd get some type of talk or something. Of course I'm a little late to the convo, lol.

For those going back to school
Your like me, although I plan on moving out finally next year. Its not too bad, the only s***ty part is, at least with me, if something is going on on campus, it has to be a good party for me to drag my ass there. Otherwise I'd just rather go to a party near my area or what not.

8/28 Games
Good idea, I'll write something up on him. I've been thinking about doing it for some time now. He's got fastball, slider mainly if I recall. I also think he throws a changeup ,but I got it written down, so I'll just check my notes out and then write something up
