  1. As I tell my son - he is going to be a flat out superstar - like 6WAR type of player. He just has "it". I really wonder how amazing the Mets guy is that there was another individual ranked ahead of Robert (unless you are worried he can't stay healthy). Offensively and Defensively - he has it all.
  2. Ok - Robert - knock it open. Calling the shot!
  3. Yes - I saw something and didn't quite understand - it might be they get to push some of it into the next year.
  4. Well done and nice job Abreu. That play is never easy.
  5. Damn leadoff walks. Team is playing too damn tight.
  6. I haven't though that in a long time. This year I think it and it is. They are getting guys on base, etc...not getting the big hits and playing tight, but it will come. It will definitely come.
  7. I don't think Ricky can survive a poor season. I actually don't know that he survives a poor 1st half of the season (but small sample size and unique circumstance of season might make it hard.
  8. This sucks - I was hoping he had a chance to be a solid CB; certainly impacts the clubs DB depth and puts more pressure on Jaylon.
  9. #Bears GM Ryan Pace said CB Tre Roberson suffered a broken foot training for the start of the season. Called it disappointing as they liked him. He was waived with a non-football injury on Tuesday.
  10. Did Clowney ever sign? I wonder if the Bears, now that Goldman opted out, consider just giving Clowney a 1yr deal (I think Goldman opting out creates a lot of cap flexibility). If they don't do this, than Pace should be very opportunistic in how he can maximize extensions to take advantage of CY cap space.
  11. I should caveat - I am kind of thinking with him not playing a true "full time" role and with the market being supressed from COVID, he won't get a massive offer.
  12. I'm guessing Madrigal is up by this weekend.
  13. I'm thinking in this day and age the definition of a starting catcher is pretty limited. Reality is you could start these guys each 80 times at catcher plus have them DH another 40-50 games a piece and that is basically a full time starter.
  14. If I were the White Sox - I would keep McCann (if I could). Pay him fair and have two catchers and use it as a position of strength. Hindsight is 20/20 and I'm basing this on a small sample size, but McCann looks like the real deal. Whatever change he made last year seems to be sticking this year (at the plate) and defensively, the dude is top notch in his ability to call a game, etc.
  15. Was Greg Maddux a true ace? He had his personal catcher for years (vs. Javy Lopez, who could hit, but was mediocre defensive catcher at best). I do think it would be better suited to have McCann back there for Gio, at least early in the season to just do the best we can to get Gio in a groove. Plus, with McCann and Grandal, we can have one DH and the other catch more than we think to keep both of them fresh (because their bats play) so reality there are plenty of starts at C specific for both of them to get action. In a 60 game season where there will likely be a lot of DH's (rain / covid) - way better to keep our catchers fresh.
  16. Agreed - What people are ignoring is a 3 game winning streak is also the equivalent of a 8 game winning streak, so the good and bad is magnified more here and you have a smaller sample size that a lopsided streak one way or the other may not balance out as nicely in a 60 game season (vs. a 162 game season) but right now the stat people are too focusing on the down (because of where we are). I would say the same thing if we were 4-1; It is still just 4-1, it isn't the same as being 11-3, it just isn't.
  17. What a play - that is what good teams do - flash the leather. I also laugh at everyone ripping Leury like he isn't a big leaguer. He is a perfectly acceptable platoon guy and a good one at that, whose temporarily been forced into a greater role while the club also plays the service time game with Madrigal. That same player also entered today hitting 300 with 4 RBI's and 2 HR (small sample size since all his hits and HR's came in one game) but just pointing out not exactly the right thing to do to jump to conclusions this quickly. I will say though - that catch hurt - I thought that was going to be at least one more run and had a chance to get all the way out off the bat.
  18. None of those guys were expected to be starting outfielders though - they were all bench guys and Nomar and Jimenez being out is pushing the issue. I'd also say Leury isn't bad and Engel for what he is, isn't bad. I still believe in this teams upside - they just need to be able to see through this and not get too backed up - there issue will be if they dig a hole and it buries them psychologically. With a limited summer camp too - it just impacts everything (rust, etc).
  19. Small sample size - but he looks like a franchise catcher and that last year was not a fluke.
  20. I mean wasn't it Ozzie who was known for the "Sunday" lineup that had all kinds of odd things. Didn't Timo Perez hit cleanup once or twice?
  21. Nah - Rodon is going to stop the bleed right now.
  22. If he was banged up - is it the best idea to have him play 2 games vs. have him just play the late game (or is he out of that game too)?
  23. I'm curious how much of this is him just not getting a lot of time getting comfortable with the staff. Even in a small season, I'm not going to panic over a weeks worth of starts. That said, would feel much better to be on other side. Come on Sox - Ricky's boys don't get quit.
