If they do I hope its someone like Frank for Ponson and they aren't giving up anymore minor leaugers. If its not that then I hope they blow up this team with some guys.

That sucks Vince. At least no one was hurt. I'm assuming you have insurance so I think now you just got to say I'm safe, no one was hurt and thats why you have insurance. Hopefully it was preplanned and someone isn't f***ing around with you. the thing is, who the hell would plan on burning a couple cars of people they don't even know

All I'm going to say is that I think you look too harsh at age. At 24 I can see a guy just making the majors (Rodriguez did that this year and dominated early). Then he hit a slump (Also got hurt) and was in trouble. I think last year he was in A ball at the beginning so thats a huge jump. And I know when he was traded he was in AA. Jarrod Washburn was around 26 or so when he made it.

Not if they sign Matsui. Also, it depends on where the Sox pick. If they pick high enough then I think its compensentary by MLB and they dont' give up any picks, but I'm not positive on that. and the other guys I'd want them to sign wouldn't be worth that much. Plus I'll gladly accept 2 picks for COlon and use one of them on Sidney Ponson. He's worth it in my mind. Of course i'd like to acquire him for Thomas via a trade.
-
I don't think the Sox get any picks for Carlos Lee. The Sox can either offer him arbitration and they keep him, or they can let him go and not be able to sign him to the 15th. Its kind of their call.
-
Colon stuff looked as good as ever last night. Unfortunately he's nit picking and as DJ said he's getting way predictable on lefties. I want Sandy to catch his next couple of games.
-
The decision is due on July 25th.

Rodriguez isn't very old at 24. Thats actually young. So the guys haven't been rushed. If your drafted out of college thats like 2 years development which really isn't much. Too many guys get rushed. Rodriguez is a very good prospect.

I'm thinking quite a bit of money. Colon and Valentin combine for around 13 million while Thomas would be another 5.5 or so freed up. Thats around 19 mill. YOu have some pay raises to Magglio and probably Konerko and then I'm thinking you can get Lee to a contract at the same rate. The Sox then pay Loaiza a bit more, leaving you say 12 million. With that the Sox could sign a shortstop and Ponson (6 and 6 or something along those lines) and then go with that. Plus if they do some things in trade, they could get some everyday major leaguers, maybe a Freddy Sanchez, etc that could fill other holes and cheaply.

I remember that. Also, couldn't people say we did the same to Baines, but not playing him. For Pete sake the guy was done, I'm sorry out of respect there is no reason to put him on your team to make it worse. While Frank Thomas is far from a bad player, there is a point where you have to move on in my opinion. I am just not a big fan of teams that have a permanent DH.

Rodriguez was freaking awesome his first month. Then he gets injured and hasn't been as good. Watching him pitch at the beginning of the year I saw all I needed to. I'd trade a solid outfield prospect for a good pitching prospect any day of the week, especially when your the Rangers, a team that lacks pitching. He can come in and will be part of a younger more talented staff on a team that has a ton of young, talented positon players. I wish we had the Ex Indian Gm as our gm. Hart is really doing a good job in my book. He's cleaning up that mess.
-
Rex, I agree his numbers aren't great, career wise. But he did develop into a pretty good player and when healthy he has been pretty good. From what I've seen of him I love what he does. The Sox did overpay though. Well if the Rangers take Pacheco and Rupe they overpaid.
-
Pacheco and Rupe are the two guys I don't want the Sox to lose. Pacheco has a great arm and the big thing for him has been the addition of the changeup. Prior to that he threw two hard pitches, meaning guys could sit on things. I sure hope the Rangers don't take them, but your right, they'd be fools not to. If I were them I'd take Diaz, Rupe and Pacheco. They need pitching and they'd be making out like bandits in my mind if they did that. Now if they went with Webster and Diaz, I'd be happy and I wouldn't complain at all.
-
Damn the Rangers robbed the Indians blind. Rodriguez is an awesome pitcher or at least has the talent to be. I did read that thing and I Guess he has ran into problems, but I do think he could become a really good player. Good move by the Rangers and I guess the Indians got a decent hitter (Good stats and such).

Because you need some guys that you can sign. The Sox are one of the very best teams at gauging interest in players that flal down and are supposed to be tough signs. They can't go after too many guys that are tough signs because you need to get some of the guys signed and in camp to fill rosters and ensure you have some talented players. Also, some guys just let it be known that they will play college no matter what and thats that. Nothing they can do about that and the MLB really frowns upon people paying huge money for latter round picks and thats what it takes to get those guys signed. And if people start signing those latter round picks to bigger money, then the price of draft picks would increase, something the owners wouldn't want. I didn't hear about any signing trouble with Young or Harvey. I'm sure they'll get good money, but thats that. Teams have budgets and they also have scouting reports, they may have other guys they want who they know they can sign. You can only take so many chances.

Valentin was not getting on base. He was dropped from that hole because his OBP was well under .300 and his average was in the .220's. Then once dropped his average came up a bit (His usual yearly hot streak) and now he's been back in a funk. I will say this, defensively he's been a plus (I never thought I'd say that), but he's freaking weaksauce at the plate. While I'm not the biggest Tejada fan, he would be a huge upgrade. Offensively he is way better and both are good defensive players (if Jose plays like he has done thus far this season). I still like the idea of Matsui. The question is whether it is worth paying them the money. I do think shortstop is one position where you should invest money if you can get a real good one, cause they are so hard to find. Outfielders/Dh's/1st baseman they can be found, its the other guys that are harder. The key is to spend the money on those guys, unless the players at the other positions are just the absolute best at that spot.

We have that in Rowand/Harris. The flaw is that they'd have to unload one of their DH's to make room for that (THOMAS). Then they could let them two play in center with Everett and Lee in the left/dh and Konerko playing first. Daubach spells all of them on ocassions. Sox still have a strong bench, and they add more team speed and defense and I really think we don't need 25-30 homerun mashers, this team has enough of them. What they need is less 25 homer guys and more table setters that are willing to do other things to help the team. To me a good team has a mixture of RBI guys and Run scorers (Aka Durham's, Furcals, etc).
-
Agree with you 100% Killa. Lets also mix that with the fact that Carlos leads the team in RBI's. He still has his flaws, but he puts up pretty good numbers is way younger then Frank and plays his ass off. I think we know KW would do it, but would the Sox? I know they'd take a PR hit, but at this point who cares, how much worse could the PR really get. Make up for it in the offseason by signing a few good players.

Believe it or not, I believe dealing Thomas may be good for the team. But that's just me. i don't know. in some way i agree and wish him the best. on the other i would like for him to retire a sox. if he would go to the "o", do you think we can get john maine for him. i highly doubt it. but wouldn't trading clee be a better move? Lee is younger, cheaper, and can also play in the outfield. I may have my flaws in him, but he's also a really hard worker and doesn't bring all the distractions that Frank brings. Maybe I'm just not huge with loyalty, but to me now is the time to unload one of our DH's and Thomas is older, signed long term (Well basically he is) and the options we have are just as good as him, especially since they could invest money on keeping other guys. Plus the Sox really need to get rid of some of these DH's and Thomas is the one who really is strictly a DH, except he can't produce in the DH slot.
-
Harvey is really talented. This years class was full of talented highschool outfielders. He seems to have all the skills, but I think you just have to wait and see how he adjusts to wood bats and how he develops. Dmitri Young's brother really is the creme of the crop though, imo.
-
Ya, Lee is restricted or something so if we want him we can have him or I'm pretty sure on that. Wunsch is a free agent too while the Sox have options on Loaiza.

D'uh? We are going to lose 6 prospects, of course we slide back a little. I was disappointed all the mentioned was Borch though, when guys like Cotts, Reed, and Wing have been much bigger surprises and have rocketed up the charts 6 prospects, two of which weren't very much prospects (Salvo and Almonte) and it may only be two of which go to Texas. So I'm thinking the Sox lose something more like 4 prospets. Plus they get one back in Dunn, which is a net loss of 3. Odds are if things work out, they get at least 2 draft picks from the two guys that are acquired, which is another 2 prospects in return (IT could be 4 picks, but thats a ?) which is a net loss of one prospect and in the draft picks, if done right you should be able to get some top talent. using a lot of math tonite, uh plus i think we will get a supplemental 1 rounder for everett, have you forgotten colon in the equation? I was only talking about the two trades the Sox made. If you want me to work out the whole scenario, here's what I got. -The Sox will get two compensation picks for Colon -Sox will get 2 for Alomar (maybe one, but I think 2) -Sox will get 2 for Everett (maybe one, but I think 2) Remember to get compensation we must offer abritatoin and they can only take 20% of a paycut so they'll need solid offers to go elsewhere. -Sox may get compensation for Valentin -May get compensation for Carlos (if he walks) Thats what I'm thinking of right now. I'm guessing the Sox should have 3 or 4 compensation picks at the least.

Deftones have been around a while, but I don't think they are all that old. Could be wrong though.

Ah yes, even after a Sox win, there is the usual relationship bickering *Gonna Move This to the Off Topic* I'm thinking the most relaxing day ever on Soxtalk will be the one where the Sox win the series
