I've noticed him. He has been amazing down there and your right he was once very highly touted. I think next year him and Olivo will be the catching tandem. I only hope Kendall is in left field.

Lets just compare Colon's numbers (paid 9 mill a year) with Ponsons (Paid 4.5 mill this year; could be resigned for the next 4 years at around 20 mill with incentives to push the deal around 25 mill). Bartolo Colon - 30 yrs old 7-9 with a 4.25 ERA. In his 21 starts he has pitched 146 innings giving up 142 hits. He has 105 strikeouts to 45 walks and has given up 16 homers. Opponents bat .259 off him with a .315 OBP. Sidney Ponson - 26 yrs Old 13-5 with a 3.67 ERA. In his 19 starts he has 4 complete games and has pitched 132.1 innings while striking out 92 and walking 37. He has given up 10 homers and 134 hits. Opponents bat .261 off of him with a .312 OBP. Career wise Colon has better numbers, but in 2002 Ponson had a 4.09 ERA (Not bad at all, especially for a 25 year old). Now what I'm saying is the Sox can get two young starters for Colon (plus a 3rd who you may just use to deal to get Ponson). Could you imagine getting Ponson, Williams, and Foppert or something like that for Bartolo Colon. Sox would probably have to add someone else, but I'm just saying the possibility is there. While Colon is more proven, Ponson has been awesome this season and has always had great stuff. He's only 26, would be cheaper, and the Sox could have him long term. They'd also get a 5 starter, which means the pen doesn't need to be used as much and can move the other man acquired into the long relief spot.

Plus, is a payroll of 60 or 65 million really that high, especially knowing JR is gonna make some money this year.

I'm implying losing Colon and adding Ponson, Kendall, and Giles. The Sox lose two guys from their major league roster (Colon and Lee) while adding Foppert and Williams (Ainsworth would be a PTBNL) with Williams stepping into the 5 slot in the rotation or Foppert doing it and the other becoming a long reliever. Rotation Loaiza Buehrle Ponson Garland Foppert/Williams Bullpen Wunsch (supposed to be back up on Friday) Marte Gordon Koch White Glover or Foppert/Williams/Wright/Porzio If anyone is telling me that that rotation would suffer, I think they are nuts. Ponson is pitching just as good as Colon this season and I actually think he is a similar pitcher to Colon. The Sox also no longer have Porzio in the 5th slot of the rotation. Jerome Williams is 5-1 with a sub 3.00 ERA in 10 or 11 starts for the Giants. Total Payroll added: Brian Giles - 9 mill a season over the next 3 years(27 mill total) Kendall - 5.5 mill a season over the next 4 years (22 mill; Pirates pay like 47% of his salary) Ponson - Free agent at the end of the year, but Sox could resign him for less then Colon would of cost. I'll just roughly say 6 mill; give or take some. Ponson turned down a 3 yr 15 mill deal, so I'm thinking we could get him. The deal had an option for another year. That is basically $20 million added onto the payroll. Total Payroll Lost: Bartolo Colon - 9 Mill Carlos Lee - 4.5 Mill (Arbitration Eligible Next Year; Will get at least that much) That equates to 13.5 mill. So the Sox would be adding 6.5 million over the long haul with those aquisitions. Now they will be able to resign Jose for less next year (Maybe save 2 mill there). They will also see Maggs contract jump so I figure in the offseason Koch or someone could get dealt for a younger player if they need to free up a little more money. Sox would not resign Everett (Hope to get picks) but the Sox would try to resign Alomar Jr. Yes, you'd be adding payroll over the long haul, but I think its not a ridiculous amount.

Ponson gets better every year and is a freaking workhorse.
  6. Ya, I thougth that was hillarious, it just reaked of sarcasm
  7. Welcome aboard Tizzle
  8. Also if they take Webster they can only take one other guy. I'd really be happy if they took Malone and Webster or Yan. Rupe is gonna be a damn good prospect as he advances and I like Pacheco so much.

Lol...as long as I can figure out the coding, I'll get it done. Just remember, I can be really slow
  10. Damn, I thought i was gonna be one of them
  11. I'll never forgot some of the pitching staffs the Sox had and just how bad they were at fielding. Every grounder up the middle was a challenge.
  12. I hope you told him "Yankees Suck and that he sucks" after the test was over.

Will look into it. I think thats a viable option.

Alomar JR is definatley worth bringing back.

2 yrs, man it seems as it was forever. Lol....I ended up being right with my fascination of Gagne. Some other guys I'm fascinated with are Klesko, Kotsay and Lawrence. I think all of them are very solid players.

Stewart wouldn't be horrible to have in the 5 hole for a short time if he had better control. I'd like to pick up those arms from the Giants, Ponson, and Giles/Kendall
  17. Chisoxfn replied to LDF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ponson is a very talented pitcher. Every year he has gotten better and he'd be a great pickup. I've been saying that for two years now I think

I've been a fan of Cooper since he was with the Angels, but I just don't see him being a 5th starter nor do I see Porzio being on for the Sox.
  19. He can't be traded since he is on the Disabled list, but he'll pass through waivers so the Royals can still get him when he comes off.

I don't want any of the Pads prospects. Other then Khalil Greene or someone like Xavier Nady. Peavy is damn good too. Sox need guys that can help this team win.
  21. Chisoxfn replied to LDF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
    Agree with you on that.

Reed plays center. I see him as a Darrin Erstad clone and I guess Backman now sees him in that light too. Erstad would be a heck of a Left fielder. He can also play right. He would play all very good. My thought is Kendall can play left next season while they wait for Reed/Borchard and they also have Lee who could play some games there as well.
  23. PK and Carlos try hard. I give them both credit for that.
  24. Chisoxfn replied to LDF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But to take Konerko they need to move Klesko or someone. I'd say the only shot is to market him to the Orioles for Ponson. He's showing signs of becoming a force again, and the Sox still have Lee who I'd be just as happy with as having Konerko.
  25. Chisoxfn replied to LDF's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed. I do think if used right you could use those type of guys when the team is winning by a lot or when they are getting their buts kicked (In a mop up role).
