    2019 Catch-All

Hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!
  2. Stone making such direct statements shooting down Puig/Castellanos really is something.
  3. I legitimately wonder who it could be. Everyone has been so focused on the Red Sox due to other rumors, but could it be a closer or a front end pitcher. Obviously Arrenado is out there (but would require Moncada making a position change). Very interested as it seems the Sox have thought REALLY BIG this offseason.
  4. Why is everyone speculating some big deal about to be announced?
  5. A guy like Leury who can play all over can allow you to carry an extra catcher / DH potentially.
  6. Yes metrics don’t love him but he can be an elite defender and an above average player. Anyone signing him is taking a chance they can coach him and/or his switch has flipped to the positive. Huge risk and while I think Jose can handle it, Puig could just as wel implode everything built (and I don’t love the idea of having Puig around Robert and Moncada).
  7. Bullpen still has major issues and is right now projected by me to be the Achilles heal of the rebuild. Don’t like projecting Burdi, Hamilton etc with all those injuries and felt like some of the current mainstays are bound for some regression back to the mean. I know it is a crapshoot and some guys definitely have potential but this pen has some holes to be filled.
  8. I like fact that Puig can actually play defense and has upside. I don’t like Puigs attitude which has always prevented the upside from emerging. That said it sounded like his time with Reds went better than time with Dodgers but boy were all the local reports really really bad on Puig and his impact on clubhouse.
  9. Let’s see if Collins adjustments stick. If he has a great spring give him more at bats and see how he plays. If everything is doing well than that is a good problem to have an Edwin is only signed for one year. If he struggles, he gets more time in minors to make a case and Edwin bought Sox protection. injuries are going to happen and it will be good to have quality depth, including some pieces who could come up and have upside. See LA Dodgers who have regularly had great depth and via injury seen new players emerge.
  10. Solid move. This could be the year he falls off the wagon, but no long-term risk and if he pans out, nice move to bolster offense. Will be interesting to see how Sox handle bullpen and/or any other moves they have up their sleeves. Stone keeps hinting at more so I'm very curious what that might be.
  11. Foles is junk. Teddy is fine if you believe in him but he probably has just as much downside as Mitch with less upside. I get Dalton and Cam, most notably Cam. A healthy Cam is an above average QB. Winston is a turnover machine but has lots of traits you like in a QB, but I don’t see them getting him. Get a good vet who you hand starting reigns to if Mitch doesn’t make serious progress after hitting reset button this offseason. I wouldn’t be shocked if Mitch came out next season a new man though. He can make some special throws...problem is he has a mental issue preventing him from acting quick and more decisive.
  12. They clearly need to add a QB and than next year they will likely be drafting a QB (not this year...unless someone falls). I would still say Baker, Allen, Darnold, ....lot of QBs in the exact same camp as Mitch. I bring in a very good vet and let the two compete...let the best man win. Mitch hit the rest button on this year and see if you can truly grow from it....if you can't, well too bad. Nice guy but not good enough.
  13. This. He missed Arob on what should have been a touchdown but otherwise he wasn’t the main problem. The reality is this team has a ton of problems on offense and unfortunately a good chunk of them start with the head coach and the offensive assistants and they will be around next year or at least some of them will. Every game, they put up some good plays and than bam a negative play (like the Miller reverse fumble) or two. And Tarik Cohen...geeze he blows. He had some huge plays that he was scared of hitting the hole on in screen play game.
  14. Run scheme and attention to detail poor. Continues again this week.
  15. If I look at this rotation, Kopech isn't in it to start and they could easily go with 6 guys. It is all how you pitch it.
  16. A healthy wood is a great add. If I signed Ryu, I probably would still see if I could get Wood to an incentive laden deal. Know you have Wood and Rodon for when everyone gets hurt. It is essentially how the Dodgers have operated past few years with so many injury prone starters.
  17. Welcome back. Solid veteran (presuming he is our #5/depth move).
  18. Ryu terrifies me more than any other free agent signing. His health issues are just such a major risk.
  19. He seems like a reasonable and solid back of the rotation guy and he kind of has this every other year kind of thing going on (which would imply he's do for a better year than last year).
  20. I agree with you. I get the frustration, but it is premature frustration. That said, Sox haven't bought themselves room for fans to be patient.
  21. Very sorry to hear this. RIP.
  22. I am so baffled l. Never seen a team that was this bad (record wise), have so many stretches where they are just utterly dominating teams.
  23. I just get the feeling that this offense didn't focus enough on its attention to detail (year over year) and I think some of this stems back to the fact that they all thought it would be easy. It will be key to see how they respond now that they are out of the playoffs and how everyone bounces back and how the coaches / players both learn from this. It is extremely difficult to win in the NFL (especially on a consistent basis) and you need to be so darn focused. I think this team thought everything was going to be easy and everything went sideways from camp on (from the absurd focus on the kicker to what I have to presume is just a complete lack of dedication to the rushing game). Reality is I think Nagy needs an offensive coach who will flat out challenge him. I don't think he has that in Helfrich and to be frank, head coaches are head coaches for a reason. I get it, they brought him in for his scheme, etc, but he doesn't have to call all of the plays and he can still have his system but ran by others with their own capabilities (that is perfectly okay). I would love to see them win the next two, but I'd be content if they split the final 2. Going 0-2 is a distinct possibility but I really hope that doesn't happen. Hopefully we continue to see Mitch make progress, no (MORE) injuries, and of course see Miller keep stacking up good games.
  24. That was my issue from the moment they drafted him. Dude works hard and is going to get the most out of himself, unfortunately, he just has a ton of physical limitations (despite the fantastic attitude).
  25. Going up against a dime defense pretty much the whole game and the Bears still can't even run the football. Montgomery is a vanilla RB and the oline and run scheme are awful (and I think a good chunk of this is on coaching and scheme vs. purely on the players). Daniels had a horrific season though. Just awful (after a promising rookie year). He is still young so hopefully he can put in the work in the offseason and make major progress.
