  1. Let’s see if Collins adjustments stick. If he has a great spring give him more at bats and see how he plays. If everything is doing well than that is a good problem to have an Edwin is only signed for one year. If he struggles, he gets more time in minors to make a case and Edwin bought Sox protection. injuries are going to happen and it will be good to have quality depth, including some pieces who could come up and have upside. See LA Dodgers who have regularly had great depth and via injury seen new players emerge.
  2. Solid move. This could be the year he falls off the wagon, but no long-term risk and if he pans out, nice move to bolster offense. Will be interesting to see how Sox handle bullpen and/or any other moves they have up their sleeves. Stone keeps hinting at more so I'm very curious what that might be.
  3. Foles is junk. Teddy is fine if you believe in him but he probably has just as much downside as Mitch with less upside. I get Dalton and Cam, most notably Cam. A healthy Cam is an above average QB. Winston is a turnover machine but has lots of traits you like in a QB, but I don’t see them getting him. Get a good vet who you hand starting reigns to if Mitch doesn’t make serious progress after hitting reset button this offseason. I wouldn’t be shocked if Mitch came out next season a new man though. He can make some special throws...problem is he has a mental issue preventing him from acting quick and more decisive.
  4. They clearly need to add a QB and than next year they will likely be drafting a QB (not this year...unless someone falls). I would still say Baker, Allen, Darnold, ....lot of QBs in the exact same camp as Mitch. I bring in a very good vet and let the two compete...let the best man win. Mitch hit the rest button on this year and see if you can truly grow from it....if you can't, well too bad. Nice guy but not good enough.
  5. This. He missed Arob on what should have been a touchdown but otherwise he wasn’t the main problem. The reality is this team has a ton of problems on offense and unfortunately a good chunk of them start with the head coach and the offensive assistants and they will be around next year or at least some of them will. Every game, they put up some good plays and than bam a negative play (like the Miller reverse fumble) or two. And Tarik Cohen...geeze he blows. He had some huge plays that he was scared of hitting the hole on in screen play game.
  6. Run scheme and attention to detail poor. Continues again this week.
  7. If I look at this rotation, Kopech isn't in it to start and they could easily go with 6 guys. It is all how you pitch it.
  8. A healthy wood is a great add. If I signed Ryu, I probably would still see if I could get Wood to an incentive laden deal. Know you have Wood and Rodon for when everyone gets hurt. It is essentially how the Dodgers have operated past few years with so many injury prone starters.
  9. Welcome back. Solid veteran (presuming he is our #5/depth move).
  10. Ryu terrifies me more than any other free agent signing. His health issues are just such a major risk.
  11. He seems like a reasonable and solid back of the rotation guy and he kind of has this every other year kind of thing going on (which would imply he's do for a better year than last year).
  12. I agree with you. I get the frustration, but it is premature frustration. That said, Sox haven't bought themselves room for fans to be patient.
  13. Very sorry to hear this. RIP.
  14. I am so baffled l. Never seen a team that was this bad (record wise), have so many stretches where they are just utterly dominating teams.
  15. I just get the feeling that this offense didn't focus enough on its attention to detail (year over year) and I think some of this stems back to the fact that they all thought it would be easy. It will be key to see how they respond now that they are out of the playoffs and how everyone bounces back and how the coaches / players both learn from this. It is extremely difficult to win in the NFL (especially on a consistent basis) and you need to be so darn focused. I think this team thought everything was going to be easy and everything went sideways from camp on (from the absurd focus on the kicker to what I have to presume is just a complete lack of dedication to the rushing game). Reality is I think Nagy needs an offensive coach who will flat out challenge him. I don't think he has that in Helfrich and to be frank, head coaches are head coaches for a reason. I get it, they brought him in for his scheme, etc, but he doesn't have to call all of the plays and he can still have his system but ran by others with their own capabilities (that is perfectly okay). I would love to see them win the next two, but I'd be content if they split the final 2. Going 0-2 is a distinct possibility but I really hope that doesn't happen. Hopefully we continue to see Mitch make progress, no (MORE) injuries, and of course see Miller keep stacking up good games.
  16. That was my issue from the moment they drafted him. Dude works hard and is going to get the most out of himself, unfortunately, he just has a ton of physical limitations (despite the fantastic attitude).
  17. Going up against a dime defense pretty much the whole game and the Bears still can't even run the football. Montgomery is a vanilla RB and the oline and run scheme are awful (and I think a good chunk of this is on coaching and scheme vs. purely on the players). Daniels had a horrific season though. Just awful (after a promising rookie year). He is still young so hopefully he can put in the work in the offseason and make major progress.
  18. How much is part of that related to his injury issues this past year? Not to say he bounces back cause he is old with a lot of innings, but I wouldn’t bet against it. That said I am only acquiring him if I get something else of Long term value with him.
  19. Is there an article associated with it or just audio?
  20. Those sentiments were always, in my opinion, overly aggressive. That said, it is like when the Bulls traded Butler....everyone thinks it is easy to get a superstar or do X and Y. I always said, when you blow things up (and in the Sox case - it was absolutely the right move to make as the team just didn't have the underlying farm system / flexibility to ignore a rebuild), it ultimately takes time (and more time than fans think), that everything ends up like the Astros/Cubs, but the reality is, things aren't near that easy and more teams end up sucking forever because they are just bad organizations. I'd say the Sox are trending / in that level, but the one caveat I would have is they did have a damn near 20 year run of being a quality team (unfortunately they never made enough post-season runs, but they were a pretty solid team in contention for a long damn time). Most of my child/early adult life, I knew the Sox had a chance at the playoffs each and every year (with very rare exception). My dissapointment in the franchise was how they would underwhelm or fall just short...not that they were absolute freaking turds. The complete disappearance of player development and effective drafting ruined that basis though and the good news is, we have seen some of our younger/talented players emerge, but what we haven't seen is enough "home-grown" talent supplement the youth acquired in trade (Tim Anderson is the lone exception). If the Sox are going to succeed, Tim Anderson has to be a common thing and the Sox need to regularly maintain a strong front-office.
  21. Or they are making sure they make public statements that don't paint them in a corner from a trade front, etc. The urgency fans have isn't / shouldn't be the same urgency a front office operates in. While missing on targets can hurt (and none of us know who those targets were, outside of Wheeler...so we don't know that we missed out on these other guys), going crazy and putting this organization in a tough spot in the near/long-term by filling the roster with bad contracts, doesn't help either. My personal opinion (and I said it last year) was that the Sox are never going to become an elite team because of free agency and if I were them, I would try to swing aggressive where they can, but when the big boys play, don't assume you can beat them at the cash-spend game (and yes some smaller market teams have done it - but i'd argue they rarely win), instead be opportunistic on players who the market maybe isn't as active for and use your money / flexibility in the trade market (taking on guys who have market dollar deals from teams looking to shed said player). Yes, you pay a bit of a premium cause you give up something, but maintaining your long-term financial flexibility is huge. I will not pretend that the Sox are going to operate like a large market team, because they don't generate the revenue of a large market team, so what they need to do is be smart, nimble, develop their talent and than aggressively win on the trade front (including using their cash to get guys who can and will be long-term pieces). My fear has always been this organization has NOT shown an ability / proven track record at developing players and/or being creative & aggressive on the international front (albeit, Robert was a nice aggressive play and they have done a nice job on Cuban free agents (Abreu / Alexei). The one thing I've always applauded Kenny for is, when it came to the trade market, he was always able to play with the big boys (and I think that skill can bode well for them...especially given how "overvalued", in my opinion, prospects are in this era).
  22. I don't think it would be that bad if the Sox got a Price or Sale + one of the Red Sox other good young MLB players + cash (as long as you don't give up 2 big prospects in the deal) and than had a Mad Bum / Keuchel / Ryu. Price and Mad Bum (or others) aren't aces anymore, but they both are upgrades to the rotation and proven vets who understand what it takes to win and have been there/done that in the post-season. Rotation is upgraded, lineup is upgraded, and while Sox use some payroll, they stay away from the LT deal that prevents them from being creative on the trade front, opportunistically pouncing in free agency, and having funds to lock up core players as they (hopefully) develop.
  23. I’d be all over a 3yr 75M offer for Mad.
  24. Shutting this down. RELAX
  25. Bummed Sox didn't make a bigger play at this. He is Machado like and would have made this offense elite. Not judging anything on this and for all I know, Rendon had zero desire to come here, but Sox front office has some work to do.
