I actually don't mind this issue. By all accounts Rollins is an extremely good clubhouse guy. He's still a solid defender (no longer plus), etc, although his bat has deteriorated, OPS was still solid for a SS (especially in 2nd half where he benefited from what I presume were more favorable platoon splits / match-ups as I recall his playing time taking a bit of a reduction down the stretch for the Dodgers). Still, very little risk related to this move and some protection. Obviously not a move that puts you over the top, but could hedge some downside at the SS position.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) The Lakers have a few really nice talents. I think the real reason they only have 11 wins is because this year is all about Kobe chucking them up. Russell, Randle and Clarkson isn't a bad start. Byron Scott has been very poor with how he has handled Russell and Randle in particular. Randle has the makings of a very good player and I happen to like Russell. I do agree with you that the whole "kobe" side show has been bad for the Lakers but it is absurd how bad Byron Scott is. He has been extremely inconsitent with his young talent and it seems like the org in general is a little confused with who its pieces are to build around vs. not build around. I agree with you, those three particular players are good. None of them are your #1, but if they can get Simmons, all of a sudden, they are a far more attractive place for Durant (plus one other free agent signing).

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 06:28 AM) Great games last night for Rose (again), Moore, Portis, McDermott, and Dunleavy 1st quarter Drose was just ridiculously quick. Ridiculous. He slowed the pace down a bit in the 2nd half, but still had a huge 4th quarter. Interior defense was atrocious and the team yet again choked away and withered with a big lead. I continue to be frustrated with Hoiberg. I see so much stupidity out of the team night in / night out and I feel his laissez-faire style just doesn't work. For example, anyone watch Tony Snell at the end of the 2nd quarter. Rose screaming for the ball, Pau screaming for the ball, nope, we get Snell for like 15 seconds of stupidity. I did notice at times, we were far more crisp offensively, but you have to remember the Lakers are dismal. Byron Scott makes Hoiberg look like a genius and we all know my current opinion of Hoiberg (prove me wrong Fred, please god prove me wrong).

Rose with a 2nd straight strong performance. Thus far in the first two games post ASB, he outplayed Kyrie and went toe-to-toe with Lowry.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) McDermott with 30, Bulls beat Toronto for the 8th straight time This team, healthy, can beat any team but Cleveland in a 7 game series. I firmly believe that. Doesn't mean they will. It sickens me how badly and how toxic everything has become thanks to Gar (and possibly Pax). I'm not saying this is a championship favorite, but this should have been a team that with the right bounce (i.e., Cleveland injury) was playing in the finals and I was okay with that. I would never advocate breaking up a team when you are in that position (I absolutely would advocate trying to get better, but blowing things up when you are that close is crazy talk in my opinion). On the flipside, when you are floundering near .500, you clearly have to change things up. I just wish I saw something out of Hoiberg that made me have confidence in him righting the ship and getting players to buy-in. He seems to be failing miserably at the "buy-in" part and that tells me we need a bit of a roster overall so that new players have no choice but to buy-in. If GM's had a brain, they'd have realized how f***ing stupid it was to think that replacing of the best coaches in the league with a raw college coach could actually be the difference between a NBA championship and going out in the 2nd round, LOL.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) If it were true and even if it was only Gar only saying this, what would it say about Paxson if Joe Cowley knew this was going on and he did not, and what would it say about Paxson that he still employed Gar? I would love if they both were out the door, but I will give them the benefit of doubt on this one. Sabotaging a coach and a season like that seems pretty unlikely to me. Agree, I don't see how Paxson could allow for something like that to stand. Pax turning a blind eye is just as bad as Pax being a part of it. Unless of course Pax said that is BS and stood up and that isn't being reported. Who knows, all I know is, I'm 100% certain Gar needs to go, and my rope on Pax is extremely short, if not to the point if this is legit, he should too be gone (and I've been long an advocate to keep him and allow him to bring in his own guy). Marks would have been a great hire to come in and replace Gar (with Pax staying in his current role).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) GarPax means both. According to Cowley they both were doing it, Here is the story. Said it started in training camp which makes it more unbelievable to me. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/13...ent-one-apology It tells me that for those that believe the Bulls started tuning out Thibs, I'd argue that the front office essentially created an atmosphere for them to tune him out. I don't think it happens without Gar (and potentially Pax) creating a culture where it would be okay (or even appropriate) for the players to disrepect the coach. I'm going to guess there is smoke to this. I'd hope Paxson wasn't part of it, but really there is no defense even if he wasn't a part of it. If you are going to take that sort of stance in the preseason, you should have just got rid of the coach prior (which would have been a mistake and has clearly been proven to be a mistake). I honestly don't understand how JR is continuing to allow this mess. Thibs has to be sitting back and just loving this.

I'm sorry, its just creepy. My general rule is if you are both in college, throw age out of the window...if they are in college and you are out, the gaap should be pretty short (as in they are in college but getting close to getting out or have a pretty good path on there shoulder). Said another way, if you showed up at my house knowingly to pick up my daughter, I'd probably take a bat out and tell you to stay away and if you ever showed up again, the bat would be beside your head and yes, I realize the consequences of that. And this is from a person who has never thrown a legit punch/got in a fight in their life. Edit: I should point out, my daughter would also get a scolding (and I'd probably be in a panic of what did I do wrong).

On the positive side, Rose played extremely well last night. Lots of energy, good passing. Unfortunately out of the 14 potential assists he had, the Bulls should something like 2-12 or 2-14 on them. This is going to be a good opportunity for Rose and the Bulls to be forced into running more of Hoiberg's system (for better or worse) while Jimmy is out. It will also be interesting to see when Niko comes back. Reality is, MJD is still rounding into form so that will take some time, but this team as currently constructed is a 7 or 8 seed and nothing better (with Noah / Niko / Jimmy out). And that is a struggle at best.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosen...216-column.html Reality is we should be able to get a 2nd rounder plus for Jeffrey. Probably wouldn't get a 1st rounder for him, but you might get a 2nd &3rd or even a 2nd and future 2nd for him or something along those lines? If we are going that route, I'd argue we are more in a full on rebuilding and thus it would probably make sense to consider moving Cutler and probably make it more possible that we would actually take a QB early in the draft. Similar, I presume we could get a 3rd to 4th for Marty, but the thing I don't get is, why make it so known we want him gone. I'd do the opposite but quietly shop him (maybe this is more to drive other teams to the Bears and truly play the market, which they presume will be pretty strong for a TE of Marty's skills).
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Miller's health is a huge question. We better go get a cheaper pass catching TE if we let Bennett go. Oh I totally agree. Miller is also older than Marty.
-
What would people think of a Jeffrey for Wilkerson deal? Than maybe sign a receiver like Decker who gets cut?
-
Rappaport also reporting that the Bears are moving on from Marty. Again, I find this absolutely foolish. We have little talent and have a major need to infuse other positions, yet we are going to create another need. Unless we can get real value in trade, it just doesn't make sense to me.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) You sure? That seems highly unfair to the player. Yes, 100% sure. It has happened tons of times over the years. Now the player needs to agree and usually you make the trade and they sign the tender and an extension at the time. Jared Allen, when he went to the Vikings, is an example. I believe when the Chiefs acquired Matt Cassell from the Pats, that was another example.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 08:32 AM) That seems like it would be against the rules, applying the franchise tag and then removing him from the franchise. You can trade players when they have the franchise tag.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 07:06 AM) Schefter reporting that the Bears have made no decision on Jeffery and that he may hit the free agent market. I cant even express how stupid that is If somehow this were true, than Pace needs to go immediately. I can't possibly believe this is true. This would be beyond stupid. Franchise him and move on. If you don't want to sign him, than use the leverage and trade him for picks.
-
QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) I think that pick is for 2019 and it fills the Clippers biggest need. The Clippers are going for it all, and they should be, with an aging Paul. Really difficult to dislike that trade from either side. Good luck with that Clippers.
-
Clippers gave up a 1st round pick in there trade with Memphis for Jeff Green (where they dumped Lance). Doc continues to get pants in trades.
-
Per KCJHoop: Bulls getting Justin Holiday in that Hinrich trade as well, per source. It's a 3-team deal with the Jazz. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/holidju01.html Jrue Holiday's brother.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) I doubt the Bulls sign anyone. They would have to pay luxury tax. Hinrich deal put them below the tax (I thought) and gave them a bit of cushion to be able to do so. Edit: I stand corrected. Per KC: "The move trims the Bulls' luxury-tax bill by close to $2.9 million, leaving them just $1.6 million over the tax. It also opens a roster spot for the Bulls to peruse the buyout pool next month."
-
I presume the Bulls will be aggressively targeting whomever gets bought out short term, especially at the guard position. Not sure who that will be. Kevin Martin comes to mind. I presume OKC is going to drop Lance (not sure why they made that move).
-
They won't miss the playoffs. Well injuries might cause them too, but I doubt they will. I wonder if Pau is going to sign an extension sooner vs. later (and if the trade talk kind of forced the two sides to get together and plan accordingly).
-
I am going to quietly await one more move. Or is the next move the Bulls signing Joe Johnson?
-
So Bulls save a bit of money, but I find it odd they moved Hinrich without getting another guard.
