QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:42 AM) Damn, Ratliff suspended 3 games due to a DWI he pleaded guilty to, from 2013( when he was a cowboy) That blows That is just absurd. How does this happen that far after the fact? Did the case just get resolved or something? I'm glad Brady is taking the league to court with this stuff. By the way, ratfliff should face whatever he needs to related to the incident, but it should be known based upon a predefined schedule and should have happened back when it happened.

White Sox scouting report on Jorge Posada
Chisoxfn replied to Bigsoxhurt35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't see this being that big of a deal. It is scouting. I bet lots of other teams might have had similar scouting reports. What did teams say about Chris Sale, who fell to us? Its scouting...more often then not you are wrong. -
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...-201018948.html Really...the nfl had the video up on its website for a year and didn't think that was a bad enough idea.

The one unfortunate part of the nets is it does mean the players won't toss the balls back into the stadium and it could reduce access to players before the game. I think the solution needs to be something that comes up and down, so after the 3rd out it comes down again and before the game it is down, so fans can get the experience and try and get the autographs. I presume you wouldn't be able to sneak balls through the nets so if the nets were permanent, you've basically got rid of autographs before games. Unless I suppose the nets were only going to be up between the bases (which I would support...hardest hit balls where you have least time to react are there). You do still get some rockets further down the lines but fewer and more time to react (again presuming you are paying attention).
-
I wouldn't sit that close to the field with my kids. Just won't do it. I don't even like sitting that close. I've sat first row of the dugout and had a couple shots come my way. I hated it. You have such little time to react (and that is when you are paying attention...and at a baseball game, a lot of the time people aren't paying attention). I am fine if they put nets up and would rather they do it now then after someone is killed.

And China could very well be crashing. You just never know when that bubble is going to burst. They've done so much to stop it so we will see. More so though, it appears a lot of what they are doing recently is to do everything they can to keep the Yuan in China vs. those funds getting spent overseas on real estate, etc. They want that money re-invested in their economy vs. others.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) The U.S. corporate market still seems strong, Europe is at least currently stable until the next Greek crisis arrives in a year or so (or in a few months depending on what the IMF does), China's fluctuations will hit the U.S. manufacturing sector even more but that's already been devastated so the exposure to the U.S. of that is limited. The U.S. market should weather this as a temporary blip/correction unless someone does something stupid...i.e. the Fed could raise rates in the near future as they've been threatening to do and turn this into a major rout...or we could run into a 2002-style explosion of all sorts of financial fraud schemes that were surviving as long as markets kept moving upwards & couldn't survive the down blip. Raising the rates would push the primary blue chips back as they are already struggling to hit expectations with the strong dollar...let alone pushing it stronger.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) Not sure how much sense that makes. You know what they say about people who try to pick bottoms. That their finger smell? Seriously, I don't know the answer..but am I right? I actually presume this is a decent enough to buy. But better yet, just stick with consistent allocations (DCA) and you should do fine (as long as you are looking long term). I don't invest for the short-term or with short-term funds so I can't comment on that. Anything I have in the market, the plan would be, that I have no short-term needs for such funds.

Numerous new prospect videos from Birmingham

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Anderson has significant raw power, but it hasn't translated much in games yet. Tons of bat speed and strong hands, but the power doesn't play up to potential, yet. He has a pretty live bat. I think we'll see the power come. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 07:26 AM) Pretty much every interview I have ever heard on this topic is something to the effect of the coaching staff knows what changes it wants to make, but until the player is open to making them, it doesn't matter. I think it is more then that. Even when a player is open to them, it isn't necessarily easy to just change something you have severe muscle memory towards. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can't take someone and totally recreate their swing. And sometimes you just can't get whatever they are trying to do to work. By and large, most of what they are at that point is set, so the changes tend to be minor. Approaches are something you can absolutely work on though (again, easier said then done).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Ha, funny, that sounds exactly like the way we go. Fill up the rental car at Costco on Jamboree which turns into the toll road. Haha...you absolutely drive past my house (it isn't literally next to the toll road, but within walking distance). I literally walk over the bridge by the tollroad (by the portola exit so before you start going up the mountain) every weekend with my daughter as we head to the shopping center. My commute to / from work is basically from one end of Jamboree to the other. Worthless history, but the road is actually named after the boyscout jamboree which was held in Newport (where Jamboree starts). It was the 3rd international jamboree and first held west of the Mississippi.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) That wasn't the point...odds are they'd never come back, but that isn't the psyche I'm tapping here...that family will no longer feel safe with that person out there. I know I wouldn't. It's the peace of mind that my home no longer has (not that it ever truly had it), but the perception of that safety is now shattered. So now I have a house that I paid 200+K for, that I now need to sell in a s*** market because the peace of mind that home had is gone...is this rational? No...but it's how I'd personally feel. I'd feel as if I could no longer leave my house without my family. Unfortunately I work, and I have too. And for what...and by who? For a person that even if they get caught will be back on the street in a month? And in reality, odds are they'll be back out on the street a few days later... This person did more harm than simply breaking into my home and leaving...there are repercussions, not just for that person (which in Chicago means basically no repercussions at all), but for my family. Edit: So f*** that douche right in his ass. If someone came and robbed me at gun point or tried to and then fled (and weren't caught), I don't think I'd ever feel safe in that house again. I'd want to be somewhere else cause I'd be too damn worried that person was going to come back and get me back (since he couldn't successfully execute). The person shouldn't have pulled the gun. My stance is totally different if the robber broke into the house (no weapon / firearm), the homeowner pulled a gun, the burglar took off, and the homeowner then chased the person out of the house and shot him when the person was 2 blocks away. In that story, while robbing is awful, the person shouldn't have been gunned down as their life wasn't in jeapordy. When the deadly weapon was pulled, I have a harder time. Does the person running...are they just running to duck for cover and then try and go back or are they running and going to get reinforcements to come get that bastard? I don't know and as I'm sprinting after, I don't know that I can differentiate. Again though, I'd have never done this even if I had a gun. The facts don't add up of how and why this homeowner pulled a gun when guns were already pulled on him. Seems like he had a suicide mission and was some form of action junky wanting to do this. I think in a normal situation, normal gun owner wouldn't have pulled, but if they do, they pull and shoot until person exists...once they exit and you see them high tail off, you immediately call police. And as I said, if police can't find person, I move, and to be frank, in the case of an armed robbery attempt, I might move anyway cause I think psychologically I'd have trouble sleeping in that house.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Has he been in baseball at all since he retired. Where the hell did his interest in managing come from all of sudden. Maybe he has been around I just dont recall. Shipps...you clearly didn't read the article. He owns multiple minor league baseball teams, so I presume he's relatively active in those, although I don't know that for a fact. He also is owner of something called RBI (Ripken Baseball I....).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) We did that once or twice in the past, but now with kids we only fly non-stop and there are no directs into ONT. PSP is usually too expensive and LAX is a pain, so SNA wins. Plus, if you take the toll roads, it's a pretty easy drive. If you take both toll roads, you literally drive right past my house. I'm very very close to that 1st toll road you take. (Depending on if I'm thinking about the same toll roads you are). I presume you are talking about the big one that splits the mountains and drops into the 91.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Interesting. We fly in and out of there all the time when we head to Palm Springs, but I was never aware of that. I know we have gotten in there late, but not sure if it was ever close to 10 or 11. Surprised you don't fly into Ontario. I'd think it is a little closer (and they typically have quite a few flight options as well).

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) I f***ed up, allowed myself to come around to the signing based on his defense at 1B and that he would basically platoon because hey the Sox looked at the back of his baseball card for 2014 and saw how he fell off a cliff verse LHP. But, none of that happened and once again we are looking at an aging, bad fit at DH that is roughly replacement level. Time is a flat circle. He needs to be playing 1B more (if he is in the lineup). Abreu is just awful their defensively. When you see him in person, it is even more noticeable how poor he is their. I realize 1B d isn't critical, but man, he's bad...real bad. That said, his metrics at least indicate a favorable pick-up from a year ago and LaRoche's aren't that good this year (although my eyes tell me LaRoche is better).

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 06:06 AM) They got in late. Fly into John Wayne, exit through LAX. Not sure if that's normal. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL2208 Wouldn't have been able to fly out of John Wayne. Last allowed departures are 10PM (arrivals are 11PM). If you are a second late, you aren't taking off or flying in (heavy heavy fines are levied). It is one of the most noise sensitive and noise controlled airports in the world.
-
I will say one thing...Jose Abreu is a really bad defensive 1B. He has zero mobility and is just not good with the glove. I hope LaRoche has a nice off-season and comes back much closer to the guy he was for the past few years vs. the guy he was this year. What are his splits playing the field vs. dhing?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Yeah but they have guns and they already pointed them at you. What's to stop them from running way for a minute and then coming back? It's not like this guy waited 20 minutes or even shot at them 100 yards down the road. It reads like they run, he went after them, still on his property, and shot as they were running. This is a perfect example of heat of the moment decisions of this guy v. what we all think he should have done in hindsight. How can we really judge him when he's probably scared s***less, running on adrenaline after getting a gun pointed at him by two guys that invaded his home? Throw in this guys loser life criminal history and it's not like he killed a nun. When you commit an armed robbery, being shot before/during/shortly after the attempt should be an appreciated risk. The thing that confuses me is why the hell do you pull your gun when two guys have guns pointed at you at point blank. In that situation, I'd cower, pee and poop myself all that the same time and tell them take whatever they want just don't hurt me. I'd figure if I pulled my gun, I'd be dead, so in the scenario where they take what they want, maybe I don't get shot.
-
The fact that the two intruder's pointed a gun at you in the first place, makes me side with the shooter. If they were trying to rob you (but hadn't pulled a gun), you pulled a gun, and they hightailed, I'd have a different perspective. But with them pulling a gun on you, you have fully been threatened and now are defending your turf (even with them running, I'd have a hard time not standing my ground cause I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing those people pulled a gun and for all I know are going to come back later and off me. All that said, that situation won't happen to me, cause I'd literally pee myself and not have the option of pulling a gun since I don't own one. That said, the one thing that confuses me is that, even if I did own a gun, I wouldn't be ballsy enough to pull my gun while two people are already pointing a gun at me...so that part of the story seems fishy to begin with.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Darren Rovell @darrenrovell 15m15 minutes ago CORRECTION: Luxury tax on a Dodgers $300M payroll would be record $45 million. 22 retweets 17 favorites Sad thing anywhere from 60% to 80% of the LA area can't see the games (even if they wanted to). Pretty pathetic that basically for 2 full seasons, vast majority of the marketplace has been shut out. How about take some of that money and instead use it to sweeten the pot and get DirecTV to come on board. Nothing will change without DirectTV getting on board (or I suppose Dish). But none of them have the incentive to do anything right now and only leverage you really have is if you live in a market where TWC exists.

QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Those guards are pedophiles and should go to prison and have their fate awaiting them as well. I dont think many would believe that juveniles deserve to be raped while they are jail. Completely agree. And from a societal perspective, pedophiles are one of, if not, the lowest scum on the earth.
