  1. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) Puig is cancer, has s***ty numbers this year, and I think there is more value in Quintana's contract. Quintana is signed for two additional years (afforadable team options) when Puig will already be gone via FA. And Puig is more expensive than Quintana for the next 3.5 years. I don't hate the idea, but I want more than Puig back for Q, not a 1-1, and I think a package of prospects would be better than trading for a guy that widely known as a complete clown. Puig, Barnes, and Guerrero. Why Guerrero, because I said so, and because he has supposedly indicated he'd be open to signing with a team who trades for him (so if we could lock him in, we might have someone, who with development time, could be our 3B of the future). He clearly isn't ready to be that today.
  2. I would bet 5 bucks that EJ is in Boston. And if he isn't, that he is in a place where he can get their pretty darn quickly.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) True, but the way I see it, had they not sent Reyes, they would have had to send even less in prospects....and they didn't even send a top 50, while also getting that salary relief by dumping Reyes on them. People here wanted Hoffman + for 1/2 year of Shark. Well the Jays sent Hoffman + for Troy T, with net additional salary of only $54 mill through 2020. This is a steal. If I were the Jays, I'd rather have gotten Shark for Hoffman. They need pitching. I think AA totally screwed upon on this one. Tulo is a stud when healthy but dude is never healthy so to give up all that and take on payroll, etc, awful. And if Reyes is that negative, then we should be able to get him for a total steal.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Reyes is an absolute BUTCHER at SS at this point in his career. No thanks. I can't call him an absolute butcher. His season splits aren't near as bad. I also am not opposed to seeing him play 3B. Yeah yeah, he's never played their before, but he was a shortstop, dude has an arm and can figure out 3B with time and probably be pretty damn good over their.

Then go start it Mr Row. Slacker.
  6. If we buy, I get a sneaking suspicion we'll be buying one of the Dodger OF'ers. I would want Puig but I think more realistically it would be Danks for Ethier or Crawford + cash.
  7. Like this deal a lot for the Rockies. Reyes, at least by and large, plays (vs. Tulo) and while his contract is also expensive they got some good prospects (I love Hoffman's upside). I wonder if the Sox would like at Reyes. He's old and will be on the decline, but, he'd be an overall upgrade at shortstop and I presume the Rockies aren't interested in paying Reyes. Wonder if their could be a deal their that made sense without the Sox having to give up much (and potentially even getting some cash).
  8. I think standing pat would be the worst course of action. I moves to buy, as long as they are long-term buys to fill holes necessary to give a better run at things in 2016 & 2017. I also support selling, if again, it puts us in a better position to contend (either giving us some new parts we can flip or parts we think are part of that core window that fill holes we can't fill from within). I've long been a proponent of buying & selling for this club.
  9. Word out of LA is that Puig never asked anything about the trade and is denying this story in general. Basically, he was upset people thought he was concerned about being traded and talked to the front office. Yesterday on the radio, the local sportscasters were hilarious at how little they value Puig. They wanted to trade him for Craig Kimbrel or Aroldis Chapman.

Where is the big brother thread? If you create one, we'll mod it to make sure the right posts get their.
  11. I really am not surprised that our position players rank that poorly. It is also why I have struggled to see how Sox management can't make moves to enhance the lineup and focus on getting new young talent (and not be worried about contending for the rest of the season). I also think being this bad (even though in some cases, I expect more reversion to the mean by the end of the year) is why we need to move some assets on the pitching side to try and change the position dynamic and that means dealing from our strength's (one of Q / Sale). When it comes to ratings, I'm about as big of a fan as I can get and to be frank, I can't stand to watch this team. I often find myself get so frustrated by their poor fundamentals that I just turn the game off.
  12. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:59 PM) Puig has been the more recognized and talked about player though. Due to him being in LA I get that. But the buzz is always around him. Puig is so much more electric then Abreu (from marekting perspective). Puig isn't just exciting at the plate (like Abreu), he is exciting in the field (both good and bad) and on the basepaths. Puig is one of those rare guys you stop and watch because of what he can do on the field (again, both good and bad).
  13. What about Sale & Shark to the Dodgers. We know the Dodgers are looking for 2 pitchers and they want at least one of them to be cost-controlled. We have talked Q & Shark, but what about Sale & Shark. Could you get Puig / Urias / Seager / Joc? I highly doubt it as the Dodgers would be pulling 2 guys from their actual lineup (and not sure how they would fill those offensive holes).
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) Same here. I would be looking for Seager, Holmes and Barnes. If that is what we got for Shark & Q, I'd throw up. If we are trading both, we should be getting at least 2 of Puig / Segaer / Urias. In fact, give my view on Puig, I am not making that deal without Puig + Seager (because I prefer Seager to Urias given our needs...that said, I think Urias could be even better then Seager).
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) If that were to truly happen, I'd expect Seager back. I absolutely think if the two are involved, you are looking at getting Puig + Seager. I suppose the Sox could look for Urias + Seager as the primary package, I'd just prefer Puig cause you have a more known commodity with major upside. I'd push hard for Puig / Seager / Barnes.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Doesn't appear it hurt either: “As far as affecting me playing, it doesn’t,” Gillaspie said. “It did a little bit when I first got here, but it’s gone away. Credit to Herm for working hard with me every day on that. “It was pretty sore this winter. I had some problems with it this winter. But it’s really not a big issue now. It could flare up, but we’ve got it pretty well under control.” To your point, if it was enough to effect his overall production and long-term value, the sox would have DL'd him vs. got rid of him. While it might have been a slight impact, it wasn't why he stunk defensively and I presume it isn't why over the past year, his OPS has tracked just above .600. I do think Conor has a nice swing and could be an effective bench player in the NL (as his swing looks lower maintenance...no idea if it actually is). Surprised he stuck to the AL. All that said, Conor's value is minimized by his inability to play multiple positions (so if I were him, I'd start working on my versatility).
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) I'd be all over a Puig/Pederson, Urias, Seager and another top prospect for Sale move. I still say, if I were able to get those 3 (given Puig's / Pederson's current production), I'd make the move. I'd clearly ask for Barnes but I'd do it for those 3. I wouldn't be happy I was in that position but I think the talent would be worth it.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 16m16 minutes ago Melky Cabrera has four multi-homer games: one with the Yankees, Royals, Blue Jays and White Sox He is the only active player to accomplish such a feat (four different teams) per Elias Melky is starting to hit for power. His BAPIP is still below his historical averages and he's been on a run. It would seem that Melky is coming along, as we could have expected.
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) I feel like there's been another time or two where King randomly brought up some baseball trade rumors. He could have been commissioner if he wanted to (supposedly). Guy loves baseball and I'm sure has a lot of connections (especially in LA). I wouldn't take this as typical "fan" speak. This is in between fan speak and media speak. Hell, it might be better then media speak.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) Dodger fan on Twitter: "Sources telling me Urias for Sale straight up is close" Bahaha.
  21. http://www.chicagonow.com/soxnet/2015/07/w...-to-the-angels/ Glad Conor gets his chance elsewhere. I would have thought he'd have been a better fit in the NL. His defense just didn't work given our issues (and it doesn't help that his bat has fallen off considerably).
  22. Makes sense. Wish Gillespie the best of luck.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) There's a big flaw in this response using WAR when the specific question asked focused on the value for a single playoff game. Yes, Samardzija had a better WAR last year and it's comparable this year...but that's because Samardzija is pitching more innings, which shouldn't be surprising when the other guy missed time. Especially since anyone who gets in trouble in a playoff game gets pulled early, innings isn't what I'm looking for if a guy is healthy. If you actually look at the raw performance stats, Kazmir is clearly outpitching Samardzija right now and that's even if you be nice and pretend Samardzija's April didn't happen. Given their health track records, or anything weighted by innings, Samardzija looks better, but if they're both healthy and you're asking which pitcher you'd take, Kazmir is a better pitcher right now. Will he be that way in September? I don't know, Samardzija has a longer track record, but through the 2015 season Kazmir has been the better pitcher. I said that Kazmir has pitched better but I think it would be extremely ignorant to ignore innings pitched. A pitcher who can't go deep into games is typically viewed a lot less then a pitcher who can go deep into games and who also has been historically more reliable to get the rock every 5th day. Kazmir's post-season history is pretty out-dated but he has a sustained history of getting rocked in the post-season and in his career, he's proven that he isn't near as durable and he certainly isn't as likely to go deep into games. I think the IP matters and it is why I'd still say Shark is slightly better. Over 5 innings, Kazmir is better, but most teams prefer guys that go deeper and Shark is the more prototypical guy and again, that has value. If I were trading for a player or wanting one guy to make a post-season start (Shark / Kazmir), I'd prefer Shark (presuming opposition was equally good / bad vs. LHP / RHP).
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) Immediate reaction is surprise at Rodon being so low. Second reaction is that Robertson is too high. Would be way too high but not a lot of value below him. Well done overall. Personally I still think in this offensive starved era, Abreu is more valuable then Rodon. Clearly I can't argue Rodon over the two other pitchers (so I presume you think he might be more valuable then Abreu, but I still value production and Abreu's had it and I think when healthy he's closer to last year's Abreu then this year's). When it comes to Robertson, who else on that list is worth more. He's pitching at a value commensurable with his contract and is a proven closer. I presume the Sox aren't even interested in trading for him and only select teams would be interested (and they'd have to be large market teams). I suppose if the right team valued Putnam, you could see Putnam go for similar trade value (due to his favorable contract). It is why I have a hard time just dealing Putnam or Petricka. Unless a team is going to give us some legitimate talent, then why flip them. They aren't too expensive and if they become bigger household names, you could arguably get much more for them. I see more downside then upside, unless a team was going to give us a borderline top 100 guy or some raw talent that we saw greater upside in. I think the player who might be most underrated is Eaton. That said, it doesn't take too many names until you get to guys who really have no value if moved (imo).
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:38 AM) Oohhh...Robertson + Samardzija for Hoffman I really like... If we could get Max, I would be on board with that. That would all be dependent on Robertson being okay with that. I would not want to taint my reputation in the league (in terms of signing FA).
