  1. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) i know his name has come up as joke on here.. but wouldnt joe blanton be a solid and somewhat cheap addition for another starting pitcher (due to injury / dead arm concerns of sale and gavin, as well as Q's workload). Joe Blanton - S - Phillies CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Orioles have talked to the Phillies about Joe Blanton. Blanton has made it through six innings in each of his last 10 starts and owns a cool 115/18 K/BB ratio through 133 1/3 overall frames this season. He'd be a nice fit for the Orioles, who have struggled to get consistent starting pitching. Blanton is currently scheduled to become a free agent five days after the conclusion of the World Series. Related: OriolesSource: CBS Sports Jul 30 - 11:23 AM Blanton is not an upgrade over Gavin Floyd and some of our other starters. As a result, I'm not about to trade for him. I say that because I don't think his stuff translates that well in the AL. Personally, I'd love to upgrade in the middle infield (in a major impact move). But I don't know anyone out there who really fits the bill and/or would be a good get.
  2. With the Red Sox putting Beckett on the block, I'd be surprised if the Sox didn't ask. This could be a typical buy-low move by Kenny. Heard a Red Sox reporter talk about how Boston would likely throw in a ton of cash and is expecting to receive minimal prospects in return. They are looking at it as "addition by subtraction" as there is still a big distraction dating back to Beckett's issues from last year. Big risk in a guy like this, but if the Red Sox pay a lot of his salary (and his stuff is there) and Coop sees something he can do, I could maybe see a swap of Floyd for Beckett + CASH (and lots of it).
  3. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) His WHIP might be higher than his ERA over that span. Make no mistake - he has been awful. Weird season for him. 1.35 WHIP. Heavily walk driven. 35% of the runners allowed have been walked. Opponents are not hitting well off of him during this streak. He's giving up .87 hits per inning pitched.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 05:47 AM) He's like the salmon of Capistrano. The swallows of Capistrano.
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) dude read the rest of the thread before you post. it's bigoted to hate someone for something they can't control. it's a whole 'nother animal to hate someone for an attitude they hold, that they have every ability to change when it's been proven time and time again (blacks/women) to be the immoral and ignorant position. I have read the thread. You aren't Duke but your posts aren't much different. You threw the entire south under the bus for no good reason (just assuming they all are hateful and spiteful people and that is pathetic).
  6. Pyrz is not even comparable to Asik. He is the last man off the bench kind of center. Thats it.
  7. PTBNL can't be traded within the same league. For some reason I always thought they couldn't be on the major league roster, but I guess they technically can be. It turns out on time, a player was traded for himself (he ended up being the PTBNL).
  8. Sweeney is more experienced and would be a solid pinch-hitter, but bigger need in the infield, especially since I happen to have faith in Danks.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) Is there such thing as minor shoulder surgery? If he gets shoulder surgery, is 2013 a lost year for Danks? Way too hard to say, but if he had surgery now, he'd still have a pretty long-time until spring, which is a good thing. I can't imagine 2013 would be lost.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) it's 50-50 with a majority of the FOR being in the northern states, while a majority of the AGAINST being in the southern states. That's not really debatable... I don't believe that at all. What happened in California then (is California a hillbilly state)? Our politics are f***ed up but we are one of the most liberal states there is. And don't get started with the political mistakes that they made with the proposition. Marketing or not, confident or not, the proposition didn't pass a few years ago. I hope it will one day but I'm not going to pretend that my view (I fully support it) is in the majority.
  11. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) Fine, let's take a poll, and see if I'm off base: All southerners posting in this thread, do you support gay marriage? Dude...its not just the south. The majority of this country still doesn't support gay-marriage. It was recently voted on in a very liberal state (the one I live in) and it didn't pass. I think its a shame but to say the south should be succeeded. Give me a break man. You are being just as bigoted and stereotypical yourself.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) I know no one wants to hear it, but 6 IP, 2 ER against the Rangers lineup isn't bad at all. And he gave up 1 earned runs (and you could argue it should be 0 earned). But the complainers will complain. With the way people post about Gavin you'd think he'd have an ERA over 6. Not only under 4.3.
  13. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) Hawk just said that Danks looked like he was going to be "cut" FWIW Meaning surgery is imminent? Or was he referring to Jordan Danks getting released for some extremely odd reason?
  14. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Williams, meanwhile, said reports that left-hander John Danks could face season-ending surgery "was news to me. From Chicago tribune article about Liriano. Link: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2563686.story I saw those quotes too. Made me feel better. It would appear his recent 2 straight 30 pitch sessions were okay (at least there wasn't bad news that came out of it).
  15. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:40 PM) That could backfire. Coop has to fix Liriano on the fly instead of Spring training. One of the big points of Liriano is he provides the Sox with a lot more depth in the rotation. He might also provide them with a front line pitcher (depending on if he pitchdes up to his capabilities). But the big thing is he's a quality arm that gives the Sox the ability to rest Q/Sale and/or sustain another injury to the rotation. In a perfect scenario, the Sox have 7 good starters (with Humber, Liriano, Q, Floyd, Danks, Peavy, and Sale).
  16. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) Who would you guys say is the most credible reporter out there regarding trade rumors? Nightengale?...Buster?...Rosenthal? Night has very good sources within the White Sox organization. Not as good in other areas.
  17. I don't buy into what Heyman is talking about either. I don't think its true. Unless of course they are going for another cost-controlled arm that is an upgrade (e.g., Floyd plus some solid prospects). In which case, it makes sense. They aren't looking to dump Floyd for prospects.
  18. Not surprised he'd be tired. Getting Liriano is helpful and for those saying Sox are going to deal Floyd, that would just put the Sox back in a tough spot. Floyd is only going for an upgrade in the rotation. Sox should be able to give Sale some additional rest. My guess is they will move him throughout the rotation, giving him extra time off (and possibly Q) while starting the other guys on relatively normal rest.
  19. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) It's hard to imagine the Sox doing enough for King Felix. Figgins with League and a ton of cash from Seattle is another KW move though. Figgins would make a nice bench player for us given that Eduardo has mainly been playing 3B laqte with Youk going to first, and that's something Robin likes to do. Figgins could PR for PK/Dunn and go in on defense. Figgins isn't very good. Giving up anything of value for those two would be terrible. If you are getting them for nothing, great. I still wonder if the Sox look at Utley.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Jones, Mitchell, prospects for Floyd, something else for Felix and League would be big. That isn't enough. Need to add more. Maybe in a 3 team deal with Baltimore getting Floyd and giving up a top prospect plus another solid prospect. And of course Sox would probably include Addison Reed as well.
  21. I don't know where you get the looks like. I don't think the Sox are trading Floyd, unless it is for an impact starter who will replace him (and obviously Sox would also give up some other guys). It isn't like they are going to turn Floyd for prospects right now. That would be pretty foolish. Liriano does give the Sox the luxury to talk about moving Floyd for a non-starter though (again, I don't think they'd consider moving him for another other then an impact player or two). Would the Mariners consider trading Ackley, given his struggles this year? Ackley and League for Floyd and Beckham?
  22. I think Kenny is looking to go big in the next move. Probably has utility on the way, but other possible trade would be a big ticket deal, which would land a big name starter. Just my guess.
  23. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) Yeah right you just give a away a first year pitcher with 100 mph fastball ... Yeah ahhh ok I assume you are talking about Nate?
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) Gee, sounds pretty much like Juan Pierre. Not so sure about the double figures in homers. DeAza has more pop, and Mitchell. And I'd love to have Juan Pierre from his early days with the Marlins. Very very valuable leadoff hitter. Walker has more pop though. And no, I'm not saying Walker is going to be Juan Pierre (cause Pierre early on was one of the best leadoff guys in the game).
  25. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) That's a reach at this point. He was good, but not great at Kannapolis. Decent average, good walk rate, good steal numbers, but bad K rate and minimal power. He's red hot in High-A, but it's been 10 games. Let's not jump to huge conclusions over a 10 game stretch. If he keeps up these numbers through the end of the year, then sure he's the No. 1. He's making big strides though. Very similar tools wise to a Denard Span. Could be an impact #1 or #2 hitter and you have to like the fact that he's continuously improving. Hard to say, but as a whole, I feel as though the Sox system has taken major steps forward (and this is despite the 2 big prospects they acquired for Quentin/Santos not exactly living up to their hype). As well as Stewart being a POS (although thankfully he helpds land Youk).
