  1. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) Greinke pitches Sunday I believe...sorry. Yep. Dipoto announced it recently. Shucks.
  2. See my posts in the game thread. Mechanics are fine. He is going through a dead-arm period and they'll first try to have him pitch threw it. If he doesn't show improvement in the next start or so, they'll then go to an alternative and sit him for 1-2 weeks. As long as he isn't in pain and so far I haven't seen any change in mechanics (which is a huge plus), then I think this is nothing other then a dead arm.
  3. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:36 PM) Sale pitching his behind off without his best stuff..... Scary The coolest thing I saw about Sale was a clip showing his arm action vs. Johnson's. They are literally identical. It was crazy. The best thing about this year is how Sale has shown an ability to pitch/develop himself. He doesn't just rely on stuff. He has very good command of a multitude of above average pitches. Dude is flat out impressive. I really really hope he stays healthy and has a long career. Dude has a shot to be incredibly special. I'm talking Cy Young special.
  4. QUOTE (Caesar @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) Yep. Doc said I did more damage doing that Thats why it is so important for Sale to communicate and for Coop to really watch him. If you see him dropping his elbow or changing things, you don't have him there. Given that he hasn't, thats a pretty good sign (all things considered). My guess is he goes another start (assuming he doesn't have pain) and then if he doesn't see his velocity recover from there, they then take attempt two, which would be to sit him for a week or two and just rest the muscles, etc.
  5. QUOTE (Caesar @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) I hope your right. I tore my labrum. Not fun at all. I'm assuming as soon as you had pain, you started tweaking, etc. Basically doing whatever you could to minimize the pain when you throw.
  6. The fact that Sale is still pumping strikes is another good sign. Normally when you really mess with mechanics the command goes too.
  7. QUOTE (Caesar @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) My point is he hasn't pitched this many innings in how long? He might start trying to make up for the reduced speed by altering his mechanics. That's my concern. He is down 8mph on his fastball. That isn't normal. Typically you change your mechancis when your arm hurts. Not when there is no pain and the velocity is just down. Especially if you are being told its a "dead arm", don't do anything else. Trust me, I tore my rotator cuff in high school and before finally having surgery on it, I tried to pitch threw and screwed everything up. Thankfully I was never very good and didn't need to throw a mid 80's fastball to advance professionally (cause if I did, i'd be screwed cause I can barely hit 65 now, haha.
  8. I will point out, there are 2 schools of thought on dead arms. Another school is you do rest them for a week to two weeks with no throwing. The other is you pitch threw it and the body comes back. The more popular route is to pitch thew it, but I personally am not a medical expert.
  9. QUOTE (Caesar @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) Exactly. DL him. Saying he needs to throw thorugh it is not correct. Shut him down. Dead arms are something you pitch threw. Hurt arms are something you don't. There is a major difference.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) DL him, and let Santiago start against the Twins next week. Even if it's a dead arm, you don't want him trying to alter his mechanics to push through it. The thing with a dead arm is you normally don't change mechancis. Its more just your arm isn't as strong (doesn't feel that way, just not the same natural velocity), but the mechanics usually don't change, etc, so from an injury perspective, there isn't much risk. And as you continue your body adjusts, works through it, and you bounce back.
  11. The question to me is if he's in pain. If he isn't and its more just fatigue in the arm and the mechanics are fine (arm angle/delivery) and unchanged, it isn't near as major of an issue (albeit, when you watch you might assume it to be) and all you can do is have him pitch through it (albeit, I'm not having him go more then 85-90 pitches).
  12. On the bright side, he's throwing strikes. I'm going to assume, the velocity was also down during his bullepn session. I have to think this is a dead arm more then anything else. As long as it is, there isn't harm leaving them in. In fact, the best way you get through it is by throwing through it.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) I think it's a great trade for Anaheim due to not losing anyone off their Major League roster and that he's made it seem like he'd be willing to sign an extension there. The hardest part for the Angels is the fact that he's going to get more money then Weaver, who is a better pitcher. Some guys that will annoy, Weaver might be the type of guy that it doesn't bother. That said, its kind of a travesty that Weaver would get paid less then Greinke cause Weaver is freaking money. Anyone know if Zack is starting tomorrow? I'm going to the game and would love to watch him instead of Earvin.
  14. Might have more to do with not pitching over a couple weeks span. When you think about it, they gave him rest, but it also might have kind of created the potential for a dead-arm period (kind of like pitchers get early in spring). Again, pure speculation, but I'm really hoping that he isn't hurting and this is more just something he needs to pitch through. That isn't to say he can't get hurt, clearly he can, however, if there was any soreness, I highly doubt the Sox would have him out there.
  15. Who I happen to think is the best team in baseball, just got better. They still have a good shot of having to play a 1 game series to play in the real playoffs though. I expect the Angels believe they have a chance at resigning Greinke. If they don't, steap price they paid. However, he really makes them (imo) the best team in that division (especially since if it hadn't been Anaheim, it probably is Texas, who really could use another starter).

    2012 TV Thread

Finaly onto season 2 of Thrones. Will be through season 2 by Monday. Watching the pets at my parents house, so taking full advantage of HBO on demand.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) Flowers facing Yu should be pretty entertaining HR & Double for Flowers tonight.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) They want to give Peavy and Sale the extra day off. Especially when you have Peavy go 120 pitches in a game where the Sox had a big lead (why, I don't know).
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Hey, it was my idea. Kenny read my thread on it.
  20. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) After looking at those ERA+/ERA numbers over his last 5.5 seasons it's actually striking how big of an outlier than 09 year was When you watch him though, its hard to see how he gets hit. Stuff is so good. I want Shields.
  21. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) correct grienke talks are dead I am so happy to hear that. Nothing being thrown around sounded very appealing.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Didn't Tampa turn down Anaheim's offer though? Of Borjo's. It isn't widely known whether Conger was a part of the package as well.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) With that long swing, Tyler needs to go somewhere and play every day. He has improved significantly defensively though and to be frank, his swing has gotten better. He has good power potential and looks like he can be a solid defensive catcher (who calls a good game). AJ has helped him quite a bit too, which is nice. Offensively, he looks like a guy that can hit .240 with power behind the plate. He'll walk a decent amount and strike out a lot. But for a catcher, thats pretty valuable. The question is how down are people on him because of his limited playing time, etc? I believe in Tyler Flowers and I'd have to believe there are scouts out there that do as well.
