QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) Jeff Baker (32) Robinson Cano (30) - $15MM club option with a $2MM buyout Mike Fontenot (33) Orlando Hudson (35) - $8MM club option with a $2MM buyout Maicer Izturis (32) Kelly Johnson (31) Adam Kennedy (37) Jeff Keppinger (33) Jose Lopez (29) has done fairly well subbing for CLE this year Aaron Miles (36) Freddy Sanchez (35) Ryan Theriot (33) Not many good options. Kelly Johnson would be a nice get, Izturis would be a good DP partner with Ramirez. Keppinger has been a valuable performer for the Rays but not sure he's an everyday player at this stage in his career. I would have zero problem making a move to get Izturis. He's solid defensively, good on the paths, and a solid hack hitter. When he's gotten more extended at bats he's been decent. As a whole that is not a pretty looking list though. It sucks cause Becks is a total stud defensively. He's just a wreck offensively. The worse part is, a lot of it is mental (he's got a horrendous approach and zero confidence and as a result he swings at crap and tinkered/ruined his swing).

Flowers looked good in his at bats today.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:51 PM) Yep, but for KW to inquire about an outfielder, it seems like he COULD be considering bigger deals with Viciedo involved in them. I think it had more to do with the fact that he could platoon a bit with Viciedo down the stretch and add some speed off the bench (if the price is right). Maybe it is cause they'd deal Dayan, but if they were, it better be for someone that is a difference maker and that the Sox can have control of.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) I would take Ackley for Beckham and give them $2.5 million in cash. I know Ackley is having a down year, but its going to take a lot more then that.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) A very underrated story on soxtalk the last 24 hours is that KW tried to acquire Ichiro. He was told Ichiro wasn't on the block though. I assume the price wouldn't have been expensive. I kind of get the feeling Ichiro wasn't on the market for anyone, basically he wanted to go to the Yanks and that is where they sent him.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) Loaded for Gordon "PROVE YOU ALL WRONG" Beckham. Ahahaha. Typical Gordo. Awful.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:32 PM) Wow, thought that was gone off the bat. Great swing by Rios Rios is having one hell of a year.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) Way to get together to correct it and get it right, well done. You mean wrong. The replays showed it was trapped. Or at least the ones on the Twins feed sure did.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) Hit a homer, Gordon Lol Fathom. That isn't possible. Gordon is worthless at the plate. I'm on a delayed feed, but awful call by the umps. That was a leadoff single by De Aza.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 06:51 PM) Tough to blame a guy that has saved our asses the last two months. He should have three more wins, easy. He still went 6.1 innings, giving up 4 runs. That isn't bad. He was also cruising up until the 5th. He's approaching highs in innings, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he tailed off, but It would be ignorant to say that is what we should expect. We knew we weren't going to get a 2.2 ERA all year. Dude didn't have his off speed stuff going and battled through.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) Bigger lemmings... Bulls or Cubs fans? What a ridiculous comparison. One team barely ever goes to the playoffs and has done nothing to win. Bulls may not have won a title since Jordan, but last I checked, very few teams have (with a few teams winning the majority of the titles post-MJ). As a whole the Bulls have been one of the more successful teams since Scott Skiles took over (and it continued under Del Negro & Thibbs). This includes having the most wins the past 2 years.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) It's always the same thing, it just didn't work out. We deserve better Isn't that them going for it though? What can you do if the other team says no? They traded Hinrich, etc for the shot of offering 2 max deals. They missed. They did the same in the summer of 2000 or whenever it was.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Anyone have Konerko's numbers since this thread was started? Since the break he has a .400 + OBP and a .400+ Slugging percentage.
-
Damn. Youk popped out. Two seperate good opportunities with 2 outs and runners on.
-
Lets get some runs.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 05:20 PM) Rays & Angels are discussing James Shields for Peter Bourjos & Hank Conger That would be a really nice move for the Angels. Conger and Bourjos are both expandable, all things considering.

That was great hustle by Rios. Last year, he'd have sulked and still been out.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) Snodgress picking up where he left off in Low-A. Guy is dominating right now with 7 K to 1 BB and 3 hits through 5 IP. He's got a great arm.
-
I might be overconfident, but if it is for a few games, I'm fine with Flowers. I still think he can be a league average starting catcher. Defensively he's made great strides and offensively he doesn't exactly have the type of low maintenance swing bench players need.

Sore ribs or a strained oblique?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) Do we know who is on the hook for Myers' $3 million buyout? I would imagine we're only getting $1 million from the Astros is the reason we didn't surrender any top talent. Unless I'm mistaken, the option (and the related buyout) aren't even in play unless he finishes X number of games. And barring some sort of significant injury or Reed going straight to crap, Myers isn't going to get enough opportunities to trigger the option. Thus, the Sox aren't on the hook for anything.
-
Ouch. This can be pretty lingering issues. So I guess this is why he wasn't playing. I wonder when it happened. He looked alright whacking that double yesterday. Maybe he's got a bruise from when he was HBP yesterday?
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) So my question is, if we trade Walker and Mitchell is anyone going to miss these players? They're far from sure things to even make the Majors at all. Walker has made some pretty strong strides this year. To me it comes down to what there value is. The potential upside is there. I'd be irritated if the Sox traded a guy like them for Myers.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I think his expectations are crazy. I think somewhere in the 4.50 to 5.00 era is much more realistic. Not bad for back of the rotation stuff, but if he can net us a #1 or #2, he should go. Remember last year people were saying they wouldn't trade Phil Humber when we were still in it. But if Q is hot this year, replacing him with Greinke may not be a major upgrade. Next year they have nothing to show for him. If it is a marginal potential upgrade (compared to the production the squad has had in the current year) and the downside (e.g., Q turns into a solid innings eater with a 4 to 4.25 ERA) is major. You lose a cost controlled quality starter for a marginal upgrade. Clearly stuff wise they are on different levels and I know who I'd take with a game on the line in the postseason, however, its hard to argue the results thus far this year. And given all you have with Greinke is this year, I just can't rationalize moving Q for him.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) Why is Harper a prick again? What meaningful evidence is there to suggest that he's not a good person? I haven't seen anything. He's been nothing but a pro. He plays hard and seems to be a good guy and as a whole seems to be well grounded. Dude plays the game right thus far. And he sure has a massive ceiling.
