  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) that just doesnt make sense. How come manny had to serve his suspension after he came back for the A's I assume it was because he was retired.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) What do you want your manager to do? You know how many hours they spend at the park? Ozz has time to f*** around. Like he said, let the coaches do the things they are paid for. The manager is the organizer. I wouldn't read scads of stats on the Internet either, if I were Ozzie. His track record suggests his style works. Greg...I don't make personal attacks, but you are the stupidest person in the history of the internet. I can't even fathom this and its posts like this that really prove the fact that you are either (a) that stupid or (b) the biggest troll in the history of Soxtalk.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) That article was great. Oz is right. This is not the instructional league. I prefer a low key manager who lets the players play. I mean all managers will be second guessed. Look at Robin today. So he pulls the starter and the reliever blows his first save. This doesn't freak me out at all. s*** happens. Yes he should have left him in ... in hindsight. But Reed let the manager and the team down. It's not really Robin's fault; it could have gone either way. s***, the young lefty mighta got shelled in the ninth. We'll never know. Just like Ozzie. He makes decisions and most of them are the same as any other manager. Ozz is low key. Oz is the man. Great article. Okay Greg...Are you freaking kidding me. You are blinded by love.
  4. If he ends up around .230 with a ton of homers, I'm selling and running away as fast as I can this off-season. I have a hard time seeing a team win a championship with that type of player in the middle of your order (especially when he's one of the highest paid players on a team that constantly complains about money). My hope is he breaks out of this slump, gets hot, cranks some more homers, and again pushes that average close to the .239/.240 range and then slides back down. I think he'll fluctuate between about .210 and .240 the rest of the year. And that is a complete BS projection that I came up with on a whim.
  5. Yep; He was safe. That was as bang bang as it gets.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) I'd like to see a replay. I thought he was out. I thought he was out. Haven't seen the replay and too lazy to tivo.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) Carlos Quentin has a career OPS only .033 lower than Dunn's career OPS. People couldn't wait for him to leave, but they love what Dunn does for twice the cash. They aren't going to trade him during the season, but I'm with you, if someone wanted that contract, I'd let them have it. I'd take Quentin over Dunn. Not even close in my eyes. Great play by the Twins. I thought De Aza's bunt was going to work.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) Sorry, you're wrong. Kobe was dead serious about leaving BEFORE Gasol was acquired. He's admitted it. Those in the organization have said as much. The problem was the Lakers wouldn't agree to the deal without Deng and Kobe wouldn't approve a trade with Deng moving. Twice Kobe was extremely close to being a Bull. Neither time was he not a Bull because of the Bulls refusal to give up any of the players you mentioned.
  9. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) oh please can we trade him...Him being "on pace" for however many home runs and RBI's may be a blessing in disguise, help get his contract off the books. I'll be honest. I'd fully support trading Dunn. I'd rather spend his money on something else.
  10. Wasn't a big fan of the Youk rumors, but after seeing what the Sox gave up for him, hell ya. Very low risk move with some serious upside. Really really like this move and Youk is a total pro who should be a welcome addition to the clubhouse and lineup. He's going to see a lot of pitches and I think he'll help some of our young players when they see how he and Konerko, etc go about their game. We also know I couldn't stand Stewart.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Gavin has actually been about 15-20% better than Humber, and Gavin has been really bad. That just shows you how bad Humber has been. I don't disagree with him having some medical malady they can point to for the purposes of the DL, but I "am guessing" that this had a lot more to do with Humber sucking ass than Humber feeling pain. And given that he gets 4-5 days rest between starts anyway, I have a hard time believing that this is something that is going to magically disappear in 8-10 days. And at what point is Humber struggling due to the pain. Clearly he couldn't pitch through the injury, so they dl'd him. Probably the exact same thing that happened to Danks (when they finally decided he couldn't pitch through it). It happens. Up until last start, Im pretty sure I read where Floyd had a double digit era or close to it in his past few starts (which was significantly worse then Humber). Humber had a couple really bad starts, but he also has quite a few quality starts.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) They do have better options. Almost ANYONE would be a better option right now. He has an ERA of over SIX. That is as bad as it gets in the Major Leagues. So how can you tell me they have no one to replace him? If he really has some legit injury, I doubt he would be back anytime soon...and yet, you usually don't see players retroactively designated unless there is a pretty strong belief that they will be back be asap. It seems a bit odd that they would do that, but you never know. Baron says he has some info which says Humber will be out for quite some time, so we'll have to see. As a former pitcher, I can tell you flat out that you can have an injury that just needs a few weeks to get better (which might be the case here). And the org would be stupid not to put it retroactive. Teams always put things retroactive. You just never know what could happen. There is no harm in doing it, so why wouldn't you. My guess is he'll be back in a couple weeks (miss 2-3 starts). And despite that area, he's also thrown a heck of a lot more complete games then a lot of the 5th starters the Sox have put out there. He also has a good arm and was dynamite for the club when he's been healthy.
  13. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) But Humber has no options left so wasn't it either DL or DFA ? DLing him and letting him work on stuff is definitely not giving up on the guy! Just buying him so time and hoping he figures it out. I'll be honest. I don't think he's lying and given how he pitched, I can fully believe he had something bugging him. You can read my posts, I said a hell of a lot that he had just no idea where the ball was going. The stuff was there by and large, but no command, and to be frank, that was so much different then the Humber all of us have watched. REally they only time he ever struggled in a Sox uni for an extended period of time was late last year when he was fatigued after throwing more innings then he ever had in his professional career (and you could see it). So if he is saying this issue really made it difficult to throw strikes, well, to be frank, I believe it, and to also be frank, I wasn't ready to give up on Humber and I'm pretty sure the Sox weren't either. They hadn't given up on Floyd, who had been significantly worse, so I don't think they were about to give up on Humber for Axelrod (for Danks, maybe, they'd have done something), but not in this situation.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) Right, because I am sure he would tell the writer that the reason he was really DL'd is because he is sucking ass and we need a roster spot. But we'll never know, because we're not Phil Humber. So the White Sox are going to put a guy on the DL with a phantom injury, when they have nothing to really replace him with? I could understand if Danks was ready. But the Sox are going to take a guy like Humber, who was very good for the club last year, started the year strong, and as a whole has pretty good stuff, to replace/give up on him, for Dylan Axelrod? That makes no sense to me. Maybe if it was to give some time off for Danks, but not for Axelrod. Humber had a legit injury, when it started, I don't know, but lets not act like the Sox had better options. I'm assuming they tried to have him pitch through it, hoping it would work out and he'd get better, but he didn't. Worse yet, they didn't get Danks back so they finally had to make the decision to sit him and let him get better.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) Brian Omogrosso's fastball is hitting 99mph again? After an awful April, he is on fire. In the last two months, over 19 2/3 innings, he has 27Ks vs. 1BB? Leyson Septimo with 25Ks and 8BBs over 17 innings in the last 2 months? Several other relievers having very strong seasons. When he was drafted, he had a hell of an arm. Had all kinds of injuries and he never got off the ground. I'm incredibly intrigued about him. If he's healthy, he might be a flash in the pan (e.g., get hurt again) but if his stuff is back to what it was, that would put the Sox in a great position.
  16. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) Humber to the DL with a Bruised Ego. Given the current rotation situation, that doesn't make much any sense. I'm assuming Axelrod will be the starter. They can't possibly think it is Stewart? Any idea on the recovery period from a sprained flexor. I'm curious if this just came up or if he had been pitching through it for a while.

    2012 TV Thread

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 04:13 AM) The season premiere of Falling Skies was pretty damn good. For a TV show, the special effects are pretty good. The scene when they removed the "parasite" from Tom's eye was fairly disturbing. I really enjoy Falling Skies and the 2 hour premiere was great.
  18. Miami has gotten more layups the past two games then I think I've ever seen. Wow. This sucks. I wanted a series and now it looks like Miami will win it easily. Harden has really choked. Sad that ESPN and the major pundits have spent the whole time ripping on Westbrook.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 12:53 AM) Our third baseman of the future is back at his home in California and it's not even the all star break. There are no plans to have him return. This is horrific news. I think he's finished. He's on his own right now. Where do you get this? They have him on a training regime and he's doing exactly that. The goal is to get him back by the break.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) If he hasn't even established residency yet, there is no way he is cleared and able to sign in two weeks. Who knows. I got a feeling they will find a way to get this to move very quickly. There is a lot of money at stake and if need be, I won't be surprised if certain people get bribed.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 05:52 AM) You mean McCarthy who has been over 100 IP exactly twice since leaving the White Sox? 80 total starts in five years and a .500 record? No thanks. No way is he more valuable then Mr. Danks. And I'm not saying Danks is amazing, but assuming health, I think every team in baseball is taking Danks straight up over Bmac.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) I think this sort of reeks of being a showcase start for a potential deal. However, Zach has the raw tools to be a pretty effective starter with a pretty good sinker and a good change and a curveball that is sometimes there. Used correctly, he'll hardly need anything but his sinker. It's tough to get that sinker to play out of the pen so I'm interested in seeing if he can get a nice rhythm going and getting ground balls today. This aggressive, light hitting Cubs team should not do well against a sinker because I don't think they have much of an opposite field approach across the board nor are they patient enough to wait for pitches up in the zone. Unless he's absolutely nails in this outing, he probably goes down the instant we have another starting pitcher around. If he gets shelled, I don't think he'll go straight down...still have to wait for Danks/acquired pitcher. Whatever some of you guys see, I don't see. He has the epitome of mediocre to poor stuff. There is nothing in this guy that I see that makes me think, wow, he could be good. Whomever scouted this guy with the Jays must have been smoking something cause I don't see any upside in him as is.
  23. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) I hope Stewart is DFA's or optioned to minors after tonight. He's awful. He's got such vanilla stuff with little to zero movement, its disgusting. I don't know who the hell thought he was any good. Didn't take much time watching to realize there is nothing above average about him.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) You have a lot more faith in Cooper, Floyd and Humber than many do. You're probably right. 3B is an easier fix than adding pitching, which is always prohibitively expensive. If nothing else, we can always refer back to Holmberg/Hudson for Jackson to scare ourselves straight from making another desperation move like that which paralyzes our future. For all we know, one of those guys will come around. Then again, we also know Quintana won't continue to post a 1.5 ERA, either. And we do know that at some point, Sale's future and present will collide around the 150-170 IP mark. I just wish KW knew what he was doing and that there were better options to inspire confidence than Stewart, Molina, Castro and Axelrod. Well its more to the point of, ultimately you aren't going to stick Floyd into the pen. He's getting paid a lot of money and you aren't pulling him. So what are you asking, that the Sox move Humber/Q and add another starter (one who probably gets paid) to what is an already expensive rotation (Danks/Peavy/Floyd all make good money..adding a 4th to a cash strapped club doesn't make much sense to me).
  25. I will continue to reiterate that I would not make a deal to add a starter. The Sox have 6 guys capable of pitching (if you include Quintana and he should be included in this mix for the time being). If the Sox want to make an upgrade, add a veteran reliever (although I'm fine with the pen as is) or pick up a 3rd baseman. That is all I would do. Otherwise let the young players develop and see if the Sox can somehow get there magic back and win the division.
